Don't you love it when things just work? This is an extraordinarily good lamp, and in my humble opinion is worth every penny.First of all, unpacking, the box is huge, and I mean huge, however the lamp is fully assembled and ready to go out of the box.So it was a case of a quick dust, and then connect the lead to the power brick and the other end to a socket...The result - a seriously impressive amount of light. I have a Serious Reader lamp (which cost more than this lamp) for prolonged periods of reading by an armchair, and this is brighter and makes reading equally enjoyable and easy.So far these are the things I LOVE about this lamp...1. The design - I know beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but this is a beautiful lamp.Really, really, lovely, there is a slightly grained black finish, which I prefer to highly glossed surfaces.2. The footprint, it is a large light but does not take up much desk space3. The light, the LEDs produce an abundance of light, this can be controlled either on the lamp or through the app. The head of the light is incredibly manoeuvrable, and so this would be excellent for craft work, or where you need light coming from an angle to avoid shadows etc.4. The USB socket. What a great idea, a USB socket at the back of the lamp, for charging phones, iPads, and in my case an army of power banks for when I have forgotten to charge the phone and iPads!5. Now the bit that shocked me. I downloaded the app, I opened it, in an instant it found the lamp and when I clicked to connect, the lamp instantly turned off and was then controllable from my phone. This all took place in under 5 seconds. No 30 minutes of tearing your hair out. It just works.6. In use, the phone app has three pre sets, relax - a soft light, read - a bright slightly blue light, and energise which is very very bright but slightly warmer light.7. You can change the colour temperature (colour of the light, and intensity, from yellow to blue, and dull to brighter than a fog light. There are two presets so you can store your favourite setting.8. Finally you can set the light so that it turns on when your are close by and off when you are away. I like that (OK, I may have spent some time walking to the light and watching it turn on, to then walk away and watch it turn off.The brightness is such that the light is excellent for reading and paperwork and would be particularly suitable for people with poorer eyesight. This is an extraordinarily well designed lamp, it works so well, and the app to control it is elegant and effective.I honestly cannot find any fault with this lamp at all.Recommended.

This is the modern equivalent of the Anglepoise lamp but using 14 LEDs with a combined output at full power stated as equivalent to a 60 watt lamp, but producing 1400 lux at 500mm below the lamp. It is beautifully constructed from anodised aluminium with a cable counterbalance. Available colours are Artic White, Garnet Red, Celadon Green, Titan Blue and, Satin Black.Unusually seven of the LEDs are warm white (3000K) whilst the other seven are cool white (6000K). The warm and cool LEDs can be separately dimmed in 10% steps to produce a chosen colour temperature, whilst the colour rendering index exceeds 80 (out of 100). Switching on and off can be manual or it will detect Bluetooth 4.0 from a phone or tablet, and switch the light as you approach the lamp or walk away from it. In standby mode with the light off and not using the USB socket it consumes 0.1 watts. An ambient light sensor adjusts light output in step with the light level in the area. As well as manual switching and adjustment, an app (iOS and Android) can be downloaded that will personalise the settings.A standard USB is within the rear, close to the base. This provides 5 volts at 10 watts. It is approximately 600m high with a reach of 560mm. The base fits neatly under a chair and most desks. Alternatively it can sit on a desk top as the base takes little room. Its diffuse light is great for reading, drawing, or in my case building computers with the multiplicity of arm and light positions. It is expensive but it’s the classiest piece of lighting design that I’ve seen in quite some time. I use most evenings and my wife uses it when doing her nail varnish as the colour rendering is so good. The downside is that the electronic controls lasted just over four years, they are not repairable as a glass panel is glues to the back of the circuit board, and the lamp no longer works: two stars deleted.

At £245 this is not the sort of light you buy every day, nor give to a student as a going away to university present. It is a well-engineered piece of technology and sits on the desk and stays in any position you place it. It is a great piece of engineering (as the Leitz name would suggest) and comes fully assembled in the box.The controls on the base are easy to use and the range of lighting options meet most needs. You can get more fine-grained control if you pair it with a phone, and here is my first complaint: I can pair it to and android phone but not to an iPad as the app doesn't install. It seems the concept is phone pairing only, a strange oversight.Once paired the bluetooth works ok (I didn't try in a crowded wifi environment) but the automatic switch off when you leave the room seems of limited value. The stand also has a USB charging socket. At first I thought this a nice touch, but quickly wondered why only one socket? The socket also has no labelling so I assume isn't a higher power outlet such as would suit some more modern devices that can charge faster on higher current.Grumbles aside it's a stylish piece of kit, just very expensive.

The first thing that struck me about this was the sheer size of the light - the pictures really don't give a clue as to how big this is, but it stands 55 cms high, with the arm extending as far again. On the positive side - that does give you enormous flexibility on where you place the light, but it might catch oyu out if you have limited space. The light comes with a UK plug (as well as an EU one), which connects to a power brick, then plugs into the light. There's a USB point, adding to the functionality, but be aware this does appear to be a slow charge compared to plugging direct into the mains. The lighting options are what will sell this though - there a various settings, all of which can be controlled via the smartphone app, or directly controlled on the light. This is a high quality item, and you will pay a premium as a result - if you feel inclined to spend £245 on a desk light, then this is probably as good as you will get for the money (other cheaper lights are available though!)

Wow, such a nice lamp. Yes it's expensive, but I really feel it's worth the money. It's style is very high tech; it reminds me of something 'Porsche Design' might make. I'm using it in my living room, which is anything but high tech, and it really doesn't look out of place. The app to control the light is great, using Bluetooth, you can dim, turn on/off and change colour temperature to suit your mood, or what you're doing. A nice neutral white light to read with, a slightly warmer yellowish light to relax with and a super bright cool white light for getting things done! You can very easily make your own setting, or control the light directly on the base. Easy to position the head, and super sturdy once set. The quality is top notch. It has a USB port in the base to allow charging of phones or similar, a great idea. It has a 'laptop style' power supply, so if trying to go super minimalist, consider where that's going to go. Stunning light, highly recommended.

This is a genius piece of kit- as my long suffering angle poise had taken to being propped up with a ruler I was delighted to be able to road test this lampThe light quality is super to accompany writing at a screen and has the added addition of a usb charging point integral to the lamp stem which is a happy coincidence if you are workingThe light has multiple positioning and can easily be moved and positioning is simple

Very simple in style but would fit into most offices. Comes with an instruction booklet which i did not find that useful. The app was easy to download and simple to use. You are able to change the light via that or switches on the unit. The phone charger is great very handy. It is a nice lamp but i feel a little over priced
