I bought two of these, on discount as customer returns; they were un-damaged, so especially good value. They're a nice color / finish, and work great with 4W LED bulbs; warm light, cool cheap lamps. My reservations are:- The lamps are a bit finger-pinchy, when adjusting the lamps or picking them up to move them; so probably unsuitable for kids. (Yes, I realize there's also a more-serious finger-in-the-bulbholder risk, for very young kids.)- Picking up the lamp (e.g. by the shade) typically causes the base to fall off. This is a repeated surprise because the base doesn't fall off immediately, it falls off after a few seconds and typically falls or bounces onto the floor; but we don't move thelamps quite often enough to remember this problem.I'd blame myself for "user error" (for forgetting to hold the base), but this is a lamp that's intended to be adjustable (so we might reasonably assume it's meant to be moved); and so that the base doesn't either latch or bolt on, and might easily damage e.g. a toe, seems a fairly-serious mis-feature.- It's not immediately obvious whether the mechanism is stiff, or that it's reached the limit of its travel. Partly as a result of this, I snapped (and then repaired) the "peg" that fits into the base, on one lamp. However, I notice that the peg is a tube (rather than solid) and that it broke at a designed-in hole -- so the breakage was (partly) the result of bad design.---Update: I eventually got annoyed enough with the bases falling off, to figure out that the felt easily peels off the base; and it's easy to put a large washer and self-tapping screw up through the base, into the plastic tube which "plugs into" the base (I filled the tube with hot glue, to hold the self-tapping screw). We can now move the lamps without the previous crashing and swearing, and I'm very pleased to have them :-)

I've had the item only for around a week, but so far I am really impressed with this lamp for its price! I've been to various different shops looking for a lamp and some are around £25+ and really aren't as nice as this one seems to be.Be prepared though, this doesn't seem to take the bulb it says it does! I searched for a compatible bulb on amazon and when it came (with the lamp) it didn't fit! so we had to run to a shop and spent around £10 buying 3 different bulbs just so we could get one that would fit, and they all did. We just judged it by eye and it seemed to work. It's very flexible which is perfect as a desk lamp, and seriously really helpful. Some reviewers are saying the build quality is poor, but I don't see it. It seems extremely well build, especially for its price! Also, the bulb I use just doesn't get hot. We had it on over night (so around 8+ hours) and I could touch the bulb safely. Although, I wouldn't advise you do the same, it's just nice that I don't have to worry about burning my hands when maneuvering the lamp around. I wish I could tell you the bulb we're using, but we have discarded the box, but it was about £3 from Tesco.

I purchased this to replace an ancient halogen desk lamp as it was really unuseable.I decided to buy a Lloytron, and found this model was usually 17pounds on amazon and other sites, then found this listing (purchased it for 11.73). It arrived next day and I was wowed by the quality. I purchased an energy saving E14 bulb and while its not as bright as my halogen, its pleasant to not be blinded every time I mistakenly look at the bulb lol. It was very easily assembled (you just inset the lamp section into the base and twist til it clicks). While not really really bright, it definitely gives enough lighting for me to be able to use my keyboard in the lounge with no other lights on, so very happy. The glossy black colour is very attractive and easy to clean. The lamp is reasonably heavy and the feel is nice and heavy, it doesn't feel nor look like a 'cheap' lamp at all.I would recommend this lamp to anyone, I have already purchased another one for the bedroom.

I bought this for my daughter to use on her desk while studing as the room light is poor. It seems well constructed apart from the plug which has wobbly pins, I opened it to check the wiring and that was fine with the earth securly connected. The positioning mechanism works well and the base is solid so the lamp won't fall over. We fitted it with a 40 watt daylight quality bulb and it gives plenty of light for the study desk. The finish is a nice anodised black and it looks more expensive than it is. It has an in line (on the cable) on and off switch which seems solid enough. The uint takes screw fit bulbs. A nice item but only 4 stars because I was suspicous of the quality of the fitted plug,I also chnaged the fuse for one with a British standards mark on it as the one in the plug was just plain and 13 amp which is wrong for lamp it should be a 3 amp. So some minor niggles but I would buy another as it is very good vlaue for such a verstaile lamp.

Good value for money.I make miniatures & need a lamp that I can point accurately at a spot & have it stay there , this lamp does this & can take all sorts of convoluted angles so I can get the lighting just as I need it.Although it comes without a bulb, it takes the small screw threaded E14 light bulbs which are available in many different types of light & strength this is great so for my purposes I can buy (elsewhere) a day light golfball bulb which is very easy on my eyes & gives true colours. So after customising the lamp by choosing the right strength & type of light you can have a truly customised work lamp that will be ideal for your specific use, be that reading ,model making or finding the right light for your eye sight problems.Oh - I should have said it looks quite classy too !Such lamps are usually sold as specialised items & are around the £100 mark !

Fantastic lamp, even outside of it's price range.Bought to light up an otherwise dull studio, I needed a fairly soft, warm but focused light to draw under. Whilst other LED lights in a similar price range may have colour and intensity controls, this lamp is a much better overall purchase. The build quality is extremely good, and the black chrome finish is impressive, looking like it belongs to much more expensive lamp. Bulb is not included of course, but its a fairly standard (E14?) size with a screw, that you'll be able to pick up cheaply anyway. It's given the studio desk a much needed homely feel. One criticism, the lamp neck only slots into the base and doesn't fasten- meaning it can't be picked up with from the head/neck without leaving the base behind. Not a major issue, but it has fallen out a couple of times during adjustment.

How to fix it:This looks like a hobby poise lamp but it isn't until a bit of common sense fixing. Unscrew the bottom bolt of the arm and remove both springs (that are doing nothing). That bolt is blocking the arm from moving through and forward. Now it's a true poise lamp with reach. However, it make the base off balance so to get around that I screwed the base to my desk (just use the arm hole -plenty room for a large screw). Make sure it's well screwed (!). I suppose you could stick or clamp it down also but the way I have it I can move it on the axis of the screw to dust (which is needed as you can see from my picture). With this fix, it's a great lamp.Without that alteration it's horrible just like the E(Edison)14 bulbs although they're available as the LED type Poundworld for errr.... £1.00.

So often it is 'no battery included' but in this case it is 'no bulb included'. The two options linked to this lamp stand on Amazon are not what I wanted. It is worth while searching a bit further: I bought the Sylvania fast start energy saving bulb (E14 fitting)from Amazon: 12 watts in equivalent to 53 watts out (not the 60 watt on the web site), homelight colour (this looks white). Yet to see if this is too much for this lamp stand. This lamp is good but very much smaller than the Anglepoise also in my office. For those with no comparison, it is excellent; just don't forget the bulb purchase.Much later. The energy saving bulb mentioned above works well with this desk lamp stand.See my review for the bulb.

Bought this lamp for my desk so I can study in darker times of the day, received the lamp in excellent condition and good packaging. It was ready for use straight out of the box and was not hard to set up as the lamp was already put together (although the base had to be put on but no screws required which is a bonus). The lamp provides adequate spread of light which is very good. The structure is very stable (no loose stands or anything). My only niggle with this product is that bending the wire in certain positions (without a lot of force or twisting) can result in the light flickering on and off, although this is not a problem for normal use.Overall, very satisfied with product and would recommend it!!

I needed a lamp for my computer desk and after browsing Amazon's pages of desk lamps and being shocked at many of the prices I settled on this lamp mainly because of the reviews. It arrived less than 48 hours after I placed the order, well packed. The "arm" of the lamp slots onto a peg on the base and the whole thing is very sturdy and will not fall over. This type of lamp is not particularly pretty but that's due to its design. However, it looks good, the black chrome finish looks classy and not too garish and it completely fits the bill in every way. Why anyone would pay some of the prices of the other lamps on Amazon's pages I can't quite fathom.

Very few things are absolutely perfect and there are two points which I think should be noted, namely: The heavy base is not fixed to the bottom of the lamp, the light part just fits onto a hole in the base so anyone could lift it and drop the base. The other point concerns the lack of a suitable bulb when it is supplied, this can take some time to obtain as it is a small screw fitting. The reason I bought it was for use when tying trout and salmon flies as some of them can be intricate and require good lighting. This lamp is just right for this kind of work and it comes at a very reasonable price

I'm quite happy with this lamp. For the price, it's a good buy. It's not overtly pretty, but not ugly either. It's very shiny. It feels strong and sturdy and gives plenty of light. I also quite like the size. It's not too large as some of this type of lamps are. Only issue is that the the head of the stand (as mentioned by other reviewers) does not stand up in all positions. But this has been no issue for me so far - I can get it to stay in those positions I need it to. It's much better quality than many other lamps for this price - apart from the head not wanting to stay up in all positions.

I really wanted an 'Anglepoise' lamp but baulked at the £40+ price tag, and bought this instead for less than half the money. As I use it primarily for model making it does the job very well, but if it was going to sit on a posh desk the plastic chrome finish would spoil the image. It's very convenient to use with an on/off switch on the cable, but not quite as flexible when it comes to angling the light around, partly I think because it doesn't have the clever 'spring contraption' that is built into the Anglepoise' design. You pays your money and gets what you get .....

Having looked extensively for a desk lamp and finding that the market ranged to excessive prices for such items, I was pleased to find this lamp. If you intend to located it and let it remain where it is this works well, as the stem does not fix to the base. It has the quality of a short angle poise lamp and is compact enough to fit in the smallest of office spaces... in fact with a ceiling light and bouncing the beam of the desk lamp off a light coloured wall this gives a good result without needing to angle the lamp directly at the work area and suffering glare.

Not quite sure why there has been so much negativity about this lamp, it nearly put me off buying it. It's a great little lamp! Guess what? it's a desk lamp and does what it's meant to do... if a greater light source is needed then buy a table lamp... also all bulbs get hot, so I am not sure why this was a negative. ( I am not recommending you go and touch all bulbs when on...but come on!)I am SO please with this little lamp, I've just ordered a second one. I ordered it on Saturday, It arrived on Monday... How's that for fast delivery. Great seller. THANKS
