The lamp came well packed in a two layer box and an inner layer of a complete lidded box of polystyrene. Open one end tip out carefully, do the same again with the next box and out pops a polystyrene "coffin" Take the lid off and remove the well packed lamp. I would describe the colour as closer to mushroom than beige but within the range of acceptability it passes.Others describe the threads suggesting that earlier lamps screwed together. Mine supplied in April 2016 comprised of two D sections of tube, one with a flat cable/connectors threaded through from the already affixed lamp head. The cable is threaded through the second section and the two sections gently pushed together until two small screw holes align. Not too difficult but gentle pressure in required. The bottom end of the tube is marked and it is this that passes into the suitably weighty base. The base has the external flex already attached with a 13amp plug at the end. A small fly lead with two distinct mini-plugs pop out of the middle of the base which is connected to the similar colour coded ( black/white ) fly lead that has passed down the two tubes. When the fly leads are connected, by a two-prong two connector method , the excess lead is pushed up,the tube and the bottom end of the tube is then inserted in the base, pushing together until,a screw hole aligns. Easier to do with the base on the floor exerting gentle pressure from the top. There is a need to take care losing the extra cable in the tube because it could get near the screw hole. It has to be avoided and perhaps I thought the flat white cable was a fraction too long. However it did clear the screw hole. Reference is made by others to screwing the sections together which some may think involves revolving two tubes within screw thread. It does not . Two tiny screws, separately packeted and I suggest easily dropped and lost, simply pass through the middle and bottom of the D section tube through a small screw hole thus securing the two sections together. With a two small fiddly screws, philips head, to,pass through two sections of metal, takes a little concentration, but not too hard. Overall, better than most products to construct, but best done by those comfortable with fiddly screws. Overall construction time about 25 minutes, second one can shave minutes off. The lamp is a reading light, adequate at that, just don't expect to light a whole room. The head is easily directed by a flexible neck, for the ideal reading position

For about the past two years a Lifemax 27W Desktop Reading Lamp has been in regular use. The illumination it provides is flicker-free and very bright, far brighter than any other reading lamp ever used and regardless of the actual light source (CFL, halogen etc) in any instance. The bulb is fluorescent but operates at a higher frequency than normal so that any flicker is effectively eliminated. A taller floor-standing version was then considered by deemed unsuitable for personal needs. However, one has now been purchased as a gift for someone who needs better illumination when reading. This is a 24W version of the earlier 27W but is still said to be the equivalent of 150W tungstem illuminationand there is no perceptible difference in the level of illumination it provides compared with the earlier model. It is still based upon four parallel tubes set into a ceramic base. The lamp head is fairly large and light-coloured but it does not specifically include a white or metallic reflector, but one is not really needed. The lamp needs some simple minor assembly (primarily screwing the head base onto the upright column and connecting a couple of electrical contacts) and stands about 1.3m tall, which suits someone seated in a chair or by a computer desk etc and includes a swan neck segment to allow the head to be angled for best effect. The switch is mounted under the head close to the neck. The base is heavily weighted and quite stable on any type of flooring..The lamp would be effective and is inexpensive, and especially affordable when bought as a Cyber Monday deal although assembly was impossible to complete due to a poorly-made screw with a badly-formed head. A replacement iwas later received. As assembly was not originally concluded, it was not then realised that the mains lead was only about 1.5m in length which may sometimes require use of a mains extender if there is not a conveniently located power socket. Also, alignment of the screw-holes in the respective components was not as simple as it should have been and required considerable pushing and shoving to get them sufficiently close to insert the two screws.

This is the second Lifemax High Vision floor standing lamp we have bought - this one is a slightly updated model (it has a heavier base and rectangular section neck which differs from the earlier model). We have sited both of these lamps in our living room at either end of the sofa so that we can read under them. The reach of the lamp is sufficient to reach over the back of our medium back settee and illuminate our reading material. The lamp arrives well packed with minimal self assemlby of the stand required - I do not share the view expressed in certain reviews that this is fiddly or difficult - you just have to avoid pinching the power cord in the process. The lamp is well made and the heavy base ensures it is stable in use - the neck is totally flexible and can accommodate being set to most angles and staying in position. The on/off switch is conveniently situated on the underside of the lamp-head rather than "in-line" on the power cord. In terms of light output - yes, this light really does make a difference to reading and its' near daylight output ensures optimum constrast without glare. The wide lamp head spreads the light evenly over just the right area for reading. The low consumption bulb is easily replaceable and reasonably priced, although, I think unless you are unlucky it will last years. The overall build quality is very good. There are other "Serious" reading lamps you can buy but they cost significantly more, and, we do actually own one of those premium lights too for bedtime reading - there is no real difference in features and performance(except that there is a dimmer option) and the Lightmax wins hands down for value. Overall, this is a good value, well made product that will make reading easier and last years into the bargain. Very hard to fault (and the desktop version is equally good too). Recommended.

I was looking for a "natural" reading light and came across this particular lamp on the web.As always, I read with interest many reviews that all virtually agreed on the same points:-1. The product performance when assembled was very good2. The materials used had a quality feel to them.3. When assembled, was sturdy, solid and performed very well. The negatives I found came in various forms with tips about the assembling of the unit when you first unwrap it. I would agree with most of the negative assembly comments having bought two and assembled the first which I am using to write this review. It is a really good purchase,I would agree with all 3-points above and I am very pleased with my purchase.Personally I found the assembly very easy and non-complicated however, two care points are needed:-# Some thread lubrication (gel, grease, light oil 3:1, WD-40) is highly recommended# The screw pitch on the extension pole use "fine threads" and my experience with these type of fine screw threads is to be patient when you are trying to establish the beginning as they can very easily CROSS thread and if continued, can be very difficult to correct without some engineering intervention. To prevent or greatly reduce the risk of "cross threading", I have often found that if you gently "UNSCREW" the threads that you are trying to connect together until you feel a light "click", indicates that you have reached the "end-of-the-thread" which is also the starting point and indicates that the screw threads are now aligned and ready to be screwed together in the correct sense "clockwise".Hope this is of some help.

Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. . . .I bought one of these lights for my dad as he has very poor vision and struggles to read even with a magnifying glass. He was advised by his consultant to purchase this type of light. I had a look on here and thought I'd give it a go. . . .Looking at the review stats as I write -5+4 stars = 2113, 2+1 stars = 39Not too shabby! The light came well packaged indeed. 'If' the recipient is that poorly sighted, definitely get someone to unpack this and put it together. It's a tad fiddly. Two people is best.Once unpacked, you've got the light and two pole pieces and the base. The wiring from the light runs through the poles to the base. The on/off switch is on the actual underside light head. That's it!There's a black rubber protector around the wires in the base, you need to remove it!Once you screw the pole sections together making sure you carefully feed the wires inside the poles (which is a bit fiddly) and connect the wires which is dead easy, it's done. 5 mins.In use it's spot on. My dad read a newspaper without the lamp and then with the lamp on. His comment was "fantastic!" it made a massive difference to him and I could see a marked improvement myself. It's easy on the eye and as it claims, just like natural daylight. The area the light illuminated was vast enough to have several items of paperwork spread out on a desk. The head is flexible so you can easily redirect it if need be. Very happy with this indeed. We all need a little light in our lives :)Recommended.

Very pleased with this lamp. The height is just right whilst sitting. It was very simple to put together (by my husband whom I'd warned that it may not be easy after reading previous reviews). I can move it from room to room quite easily for different tasks and the lighting is very natural. My only regret is buying this from Amazon who used the most useless, incompetent carriers I've ever come across. Yodel apparently have been mentioned on Watchdog and Martin Lewis' MSE as the worst carriers. They actually pulled up outside our house one afternoon, waited a few seconds and then drove off. I thought nothing of it until the lamp still hadn't arrived a few days later. That's when I found out through checking the order with Amazon that Yodel were responsible for delivering it. Tracking showed that on the day the van pulled up outside,'there was no reply and a calling card was left'. Neither were true as the driver didn't even get out of the van. A call to Yodel promised next day delivery so we waited in all day but they didn't turn up. Phoned Amazon then who re-arranged delivery for a few days later but it took nearly 3 weeks altogether to receive it. Next time I buy anythng that requires a carrier, I'll check who the company is first before placing the order. Google Yodel reviews and you can see for yourself. Don't be caught out!

I don't know what all the fuss is about - I had no problem assembling this lamp. Perhaps the design has improved. Yes, you do have to take a bit of care not to cross-thread the tube sections as it is quite a fine thread but I had no need of lubricant. Bear in mind the old maxim, if you need lubricant you're doing it wrong! In fact, I've assembled two lamps as the first one was faulty. The first lamp came on for a couple of seconds then there was a pop sound from the base and that was it. It was a bit of a hassle to disassemble and repackage properly but at least Amazon organised a replacement promptly and collected the faulty lamp at their expense. The lamp is nice and bright with a much better white balance that you'd get with a halogen bulb, making it ideal for craftwork in the evenings. It's functional rather than stylish so it may not be to everyone's taste in decor. One thing I would like is for there to be a shade to reduce the area illuminated. Speaking from experience I can say it's not very relaxing to recline on the sofa when someone nearby is using the lamp! The stray light is also so strong that it can prevent the operation of infrared remote control devices. So before you send in your TV for repair, check that the infrared pickup isn't being illuminated by the lamp.

I bought this because I wanted a decent light to read by without straining my eyes and this certainly fits the bill. Its combination of brightness and natural coloured light makes it feel like reading in daylight. It's also great for doing things that can be challenging for those whose eyesight is not perfect - like threading a needle or reading very tiny print. The switch is easy to find and operate and the top bit with the fluorescent tube can be moved into just about any position you could possibly want. So why not 5 stars? Firstly, assembly although basically straightforward involves pushing excess length of wires - which are quite stiff - back into the tube and this is not the easiest taskto accomplish and be sure of not catching a wire between the sections of tube as they are screwed together. Secondly, the finish on the end of one of the tubes was not great, with some paint missing which is still visible after assembly. This should really have been picked up by quality control but the finish elsewhere is good and it doesn't detract too much from what is a good looking product in my opinion. Considering the reasonable price and very good performance I would say this was a good buy.

Amazing speed of delivery by Blue Fish Ltd. (Thanks to them for their efficiency.) It arrived in under two days from ordering. I was notified before delivery of the name of the delivery driver and time of arrival between two times within the hour. Goods were really well packed in a cardboard box containing manufacturers original box in factory condition. Assembly was very easy & straightforward provided great care was taken when screwing the two poles together. An application of Vaseline makes things easier. The only difficulty I found was when the clear instruction sheet did not say where the last and vital screw was located in the packaging. I found it eventually in a small bag stuck to one of the many transit bags - not easy to find.(Just proves the wisdom of keeping all packaging safely until all is in place. The lamp has a distinctly "hospitally" appearance - stark white - but solidly made and once tucked away in the operating position it blends in OK. I have Age Related Macular Degeneration so need a bright light in order to show-up typescript etc. This product can be recommended for any one with reading difficulties.

Bought this for my mother-in-law who has macular degeneration, but was still bravely (and not very successfully) trying to knit jumpers under the light of a 60w incandescent spotlight.Assembly was OK having read the other reviews that point out the problems. I would add that when you are screwing the sections together, if possible rotate the part that the wire is not attached to otherwise the wire gets very twisted; for example when screwing the top flexible neck to the first pole twist the pole, not the neck. The next joint is a bayonet so that is easier once you have inserted the wire (here, twisting the wire does help a bit!). The bottom joint was most difficult, there is a small thumbscrew that goes through a hole in the bottom tube and into the base, it's best to completely remove this screw before putting the pole onto the base and then line up the tube hole with the screwhole very carefully before trying to insert the thumbscrew. The final result is solid, vertical and most importantly the mother-in-law is pleased, which can't be bad :-)

Fairly easy to assemble, although it is best to have two people to do it. It isn't quite as tall as the earlier version but is much less top heavy since the relatively heavy electrical ballast is in the the base rather than at the top of the stand. The switch is easily accessible next to the tube assembly and the tube itself is still the same daylight CFL as before and is relatively expensive to replace. Another niggle is that despite the many warnings in the instruction book about not over-tightening screws, one of the ones that had been inserted at the factory had already had its thread stripped and fell out! To sum up, it gives a good high intensity simulated daylight, which is excellent for reading but, like most CFLs and fluorescent lights, it is not very good for matching colours. If you want to match your socks, real daylight or a halogen lamp is still the best. On the whole, it is good value for money, is well designed but the quality control could be better.

I bought this reading lamp (note - it is not meant to be a standard lamp and is therefore an ideal and adjustable size for reading etc) on a recommendation in my weekly magazine and because it seemed to be what I needed for those cosy nights in for winter reading. It was also available as an Amazon warehouse deal at a good saving. The previous reviews were also largely positive. It arrived, in original packaging, next day (with Prime membership), in spite of over a foot of snow and is 'as new'. It was easy to assemble using a little care and common sense (the most important thing is to ensure the screw threads are not 'crossed',but I did not find it essential to use any lubricant). The lamp works and is quite well designed so as to fit in a small space and is excellent for reading or close work. It should prove to be a good purchase providing it continues to function. Recommended.

The lamp arrived the morning after I ordered it on line the night before! The packaging was first rate, a tight fitting twin layed carboard sleave over a thick cardboard display box, with the product held tightly in a moulded polystyrene packaging system. Very easy to assemble with two screws to lock the stand and lamp to the up right pole. The base of the lamp is very well weighted, so its difficult to accidentaly knock the lamp over. It has a well applied ivory coloured poder coating and overall it looks like a quality product and feals like a quality product. It has already made a great difference to seeing my work pieces, books and computor screen. The lamp does look a little clinical, but I got it as a reading aid not as an art work. I also suffer from seasonal affected disorder, so hopefully this will go some way to minimising the condition.

I was initially very pleased with the product. It was robust and relatively simple to assemble. I bore in mind, from other individuals' reviews, how easy it might be to cross thread the column, and I succeeded! The light is brilliant for the purposes of reading and the flexibility of the lamp head allows one to adjust its position to read without annoying persons sitting near by. Whoops! I discarded the packaging, and then within a couple of days I became aware of an irritating fault. When switched off, although still plugged in, it would intermittently flicker; the cure - to unplug it. It's obviously a fault with this specific lamp and not a general one. Remember to retain the original packaging. Now I'm seeking hopefully a product exchange.

works very well - no problems with assembly - but needs a strong wrist and a good screwdrivern However on the 10th January 2017 Ihave to complain that the Gooseneck fitting literally fell off the main shaft to day . On examining this I found that a welded piece of metal which contains the hole for the locking screw had parted company with the two prongs which conect to the main shaft ! Needless to say this has rendered the whole lamp inoperable and is now in pieces on the lounge floor. This is a pity as this lamp was a huge help to my disabled wife. I am 80 years old and I feel let down by the short term useage.Would you kindly help me to solve my problemChristopher C White38,stonebreaks road springhead oldham lancs tel 0161 633 1393
