Overall excellent.I read a large amount of reviews on here about the quality of the glass being marked, and the bulb breaking very quickly.I've had no such problems. I've had this lamp for going on 4 weeks now, and it's been heavily used for lengthy periods of time, (hours on hours of use). It's completely fine. Little to no bubbles in the wax as of yet, no major marks in the glass, and it casts a lovely glow over the room.It was boxed very securely for postage with plenty of protection.If you're serious about getting a decent lava lamp I wouldn't say completely avoid the cheaper ones (as i've had one that lasted years for a fraction of the price), however the authentic and original Mathos ones are bigger,

Mathmos lamps are of very good quality.The principle is simple - the silver base hides a light bulb. The heat of the bulb melts the wax. The hot wax becomes less dense than the clear liquid (presumably water) surrounding it and therefore rises. As it does so, it becomes further away from the heat source so it cools. It soon becomes more dense than the water surrouding it and therefore sinks. The cycle repeats itself.The pleasure is in seeing all the shapes that the wax forms naturally, how the molten wax moves, and the coloured light that the lamp produces.The glass and solver metal surrounding the bulb is hot to the touch so this lamp is not suitable for young children.Please be aware that,

I had a Mathmos lava lamp for over 20 years and it worked perfectly all that time. I only got rid of it on downsizing to a smaller property last year. Then, a few weeks ago I saw a lava lamp in a local, well-known store and thought I'd like to have one again. The lamp was a quarter the price of a Mathmos and looked OK so I bought it. To cut a long story short, the lamp didn't work at all and its replacement only worked briefly. This being the case I returned the lamp and got a refund. I then ordered the Mathmos Astro. What a difference. The Mathmos just oozes quality and works perfectly. I guess you get what you pay for - and, after all, Edward Craven-Walker, the founder of Mathmos,

I have owned the cheaper copies of this lamp in the past but now I have the original Mathmos, I would never go back. It really is a quality lava lamp. Although this review is under the violet/red version I didn't realize there was an orange and violet version and so I asked Mathmos if they could change the order which they kindly did. The lamp arrived in just 48hrs and it was professionally packaged. I have set it up and it really is a beautiful lamp. I'm sitting watching it now as I type this review and the colours slowly evolving from a volcanic orange lava at the bottom against the violet background and then rising and cooling into a deep red really are tranquil and relaxing.

I ve never had a lava lamp before and always wanted one from being a child. At 36 I decided to treat myself and ordered the violet and orange colour way..... Needless to say I was not disappointed! The vibrancy of the colour is spectacular. I ve had it on practically everyday since purchasing in November (now January). It's beautiful. I love watching it. The pictures do it no justice as to how beautiful it is. I've never had a cheap one so I can't compare and it is the most expensive one on the market but well worth it. I cannot comment on the other colour ways. But I can't imagine any other colour way being better than this one.

As a child, my parents had a lava lamp that I was absolutely mesmerised by, and since then I've bought several others trying to recreate that feeling. None of them have even come close, until this one. Yes, it's a bit expensive but you really do get what you pay for - the quality is miles better than what you get in cheaper versions. The liquid is crystal clear, the lava moves beautifully, and the colours are so vivid and absolutely stunning. I was also very impressed to learn that they sell replacement bottles and bulbs for when they reach the end of their life so you don't have to shell out for a brand new lamp. While lava lamps certainly aren't something I buy with any amount of regularity,

Had a problem at first of ordering, I only received the lamp and not the base,cap and bulb.After a quick email to mathmos themselves, they kindly sent me a completely new lamp of my choice,they also let me keep my existing one.As others have mentioned, the bulb blew within hours,mathmos again quickly obliged and sent me another bulb out, I have also been told by other users that a conventional oven bulb will do the same job at a more reasonable price than a genuine bulb,may try this when this bulb blows, would definitely recommend this mathmos lavae lamp,better british than the Chinese fakes that are on sale.Highly recommend the seller for there help and quick response,

I have had one of these lamps for over 12 years. The lamp is still in perfect condition with the lava colours still very vibrant with no fading. The wax flows beatifully and my friends have commented what a beautiful lamp it is. I still buy mathmos lamps today and very seldom find a bad one. Overall these lamps are fantastic and are well worth the money. Why buy a cheapie chinese lamp that will break or stop flowing in no time when you can have an original that will last many years with replacement parts available for this lamp readily available. 100% well done mathmos. Oh and if you get fed up with violet/red why not buy a replacement bottle? blue/green is another favourite of mine!

This is the 4th Mathmos lamp i have bought and have never had any issues with any of them. They all look wonderful and add a great ambiance to any room they are placed in. They are finished off to a high standard and this particular colour works very well. I have left them on for more than the recommended time and have experienced no issues. They are left on for the evening but turned off prior to going to bed. I will defintely be buying more lamps in the future. There are lots of cheaper alternatives on the market however be careful as one I bought broke after 2 weeks of use. If you want lava the only choice is Mathmos. Probably because they are BRITISH !!!

A simply beautiful dreamy lamp bought in red/purple. I absolutely love it! Its quality is remarkable. Doesn't take very long to get going (20 minutes or so) and it builds up to a dreamy display of wax, twisting & turning to the heat- Far out. The colours are crystal clear.It might be expensive to some but, the quality is to an exceptionally high standard. British made of course.It is heavy and solid and gorgeous looking. Check out the website 'Mathmos' where all the specs are there & many different lamps are available, too. Spares for this lamp are also available.Check the mathmos website as they offer good discounts.The Professor of all lava lamps!

A little expensive l could have bought a cheaper one however l liked the size, shape and design as it’s slightly taller and wider than standard ones, the base is shiny and comes on little stands so it’s not making direct contact or heating up the surface it is on. I also like the fact that it is from the company that invented them although the only slightly disappointing feature is that the company’s name is stencilled on the glass - but that’s not a big issue really. I hope it lasts a relatively long time as I do like to turn it on every day as I find it therapeutic, so I am limiting the length of time l have it on for. Overall I am very pleased with it.

Great build quality, solid and the glass is really nice. Also this is the best colour combination. The red lava becomes incandescent and the violet liquid give it a really nice shading.Since the lava is transparent air bubbles and other artefacts will become more visible but it comes with the territory and it does not affect the experience at all. I checked with the costumer support and it is expected.Since I bought this lamp I got other coloured bottles to add a bit of variety but this remains my favourite.Just don't put this bottle in direct sunlight I it seems that even a few minutes under strong sun can cause discoloration of the liquid

Great service from Mathmos. The GU10 bulb connection shorted out after a week & they sent a replacement SES bulb connection + metal base unit in just a couple days... very impressed with their service. Only niggles I have are the glass has a few tiny speckle dots & a slight crack. Though I presume it must have passed their quality control. The violet/orange looks really nice & I'm happy with it. Need find some bulbs now as B&Q don't sell a SES 35w with a halogen bulb/reflector as the tungsten SES 30w they do sell gets very hot & a bulb turned black & virtually melted after a few hours.

My daughter (10) has had her lava lamp for a year now as she got it for Christmas 2014. It is on every evening, being plugged into a timer, it comes on and then goes off around 5 hours later. If it's on too long (like all day) we find the lava breaks up into smaller blobs and isn't so effective, but once it has cooled down it is fine again. She has thoroughly enjoyed it and it is very calming. We have replaced the bulb once after 9 months of daily use. It is in 3 pieces so be careful when cleaning it or moving it. I would definitely spend the extra money and get this one.

I recently bought an astro lava lamp by mathmos in france but prefer to write a review in english. The lamp was delivered the very next day prior to my order in excellent condition and it works perfectly. I would certainly recommend any type of mathmos lava lamp to any person regardless of their nationality as these lamps are very reliable and very soothing and enjoyable to watch. I bought the blue and green bottle but will consider buying another colour if and when the bottle is passed it's usage period. A big thumbs up to mathmos from avery happy customer.
