I've been looking at 'Smart' bulbs as an alternative to traditional 'timers', and other options for home automation and security. I've been using 'Osram' products for years, so I was both pleased and intrigued to see how I'd get along with their 'Smart+ LED Filament Gold Apple HomeKit Lamp'.What do you get?1. Cardboard (retail) pack - Easy to open, provides all the specification / information and is easy to re-cycle.2. The 'Osram SMART+ Bulb' - Really nicely / well made.3. 'E27 Dimmable Bulb' (specific) instructions / guide.4. 'Osram SMART+' guide book.I got the 'E' (E27) bulb, which signifies the 'Edison' (Screw) type fitment (this is the regular size and perfect for a lamp that I'd selected).Installation is straightforward,with only a few steps to go through:1. Remove the old (if there is one) bulb.2. Install (screw thread) the new (OSRAM+) bulb.3. Grab my (iPhone) and scan the QR Code on the instructions.This took me to OSRAM's App (the 'LEDVANCE SMART HOME App'), which I then installed and synch'ed up to the bulb.All in, it took me about 5-10 minutes to get things up and running, with the initial impression that it's certainly as bright, if not a little brighter*, than the '60W' (equivalent) rating.*I do not that the coating it a very light (no pun intended) 'gold' (near clear), so not the 'frosted' type that I'd previously had.From my phone, the basic 'On/Off' functions work just as you'd expect and the 'dimmer' function is a very welcome addition (steps are noticeable, with very little delay).One thing of note is that, if I switch off at the mains (and then switch back on again), it reverts back to 'On' ('Off' obviously, if there's no mains power!) and doesn't retain the last dimmer setting; but that's not really a problem to me, just something that I take a mental note of.Yes, the App will probably see updates and improvements, but initial impressions are very good, installation is simple and I'm actually really interested to see what other options there are, to expand my 'SMART+' setup at home.

This is the first "Smart" connected home product I've ever used, and on the whole my first experience here has been very good. The bulb comes with a small set of instructions showing you how to set up and connect the bulb. I have an iPhone, so I downloaded the Apple Home app, switched the bulb on, clicked "add accessory", scanned the QR code supplied in the instructions and the bulb was found immediately, connecting fully about 20 seconds later.When I first did this there was an automatic firmware update, which annoyingly disconnected the bulb after, and it wouldn't reconnect, where even when I deleted the data on my Home app I was unable to add the bulb again because it "already existed",according to the app. This was even more annoying because the last thing I did with the bulb before it suddenly lost connection was turn the brightness down, so I was left with a dim, unconnected bulb not useful for anything.But like every other "Smart" accessory, you can luckily reset it, which is quite laborious with a bulb as there isn't a reset switch with which to do it. Instead, after looking at the instructions, you have to turn the bulb off, on for five seconds, off for five seconds and repeat this five times, after which the bulb flashes a couple of times and went back to full brightness. When I connected it back with my Home app all was well, and it hasn't lost connection since.The light it emits is really nice, bright and very warm. You can still use it like a normal bulb and switch it on and off using the plug/switch on the light, though the bulb does flash three times whenever you turn it on not using the app, which may be something to bear in mind for some. All in all, after a few issues at the start, I'm very pleased with this though, and I'll definitely be researching some additional "Smart" tech for the house.

It isn't very often that marketing completely undermines a product, but this is a great example. This is a nice looking lamp. The filament lamps are becoming quite common primarily in living room lights. So far so good. This is a lamp that looks well, but be aware (that as in other examples) the light is of a yellowish hue and not too bright. The problems here begin with the wifi/remote functions. The lamp will work without being connected, but if you want the remote function (the whole point in forking out so much money) you would want it to work with your phone/devices. Alas, here the packaging is no help at all. It declares that it works with apple only. I do not have an iphone (yes I know,I must be the only person this side of everyone). I was annoyed about this, but thought I will research it a bit. The instructions inside the packaging are useless, it just says plug and download the app. Which app? The apple store app won't do in andoid phones. I tried the OSRAM app, no joy. Oddly, they don't support their own products?! I then noticed that in tiny print on the instructions was prinded LEDvance. This Ledvance Smart + offers an android app that works with this lamp. It requires bluetooth for some reason, but anyway, it works. Now, why don't they say that on the packaging? The app proclaims that soon it will work with Alexa and Google Home (not yet though). you can switch it on and off and control brightness (but it never gets too bright). It stays the one yellowish colour. All in all? If you are dying for a smart filament lamp ok. But otherwise, go for one of the LIFX lamps. Much easier.

Easy to use, installed straight away, if you download the osram app for HomeKit compatible bulbs it will if needed update firmware. I set it up to work with my iPad as the hub, you can use Apple TV and the apple speaker as well, but it worked fine.I setup an automation to turn on in the mornings for couple hours and then in the evenings for nighttime.Only drawback is that iPad needs to be in the house for it to come on, if I am out with it then it won’t turn on because it runs off Bluetooth.I wanted it to work with my Philips Hue gateway, and the annoying thing is that the hue will control HomeKit bulbs but only if they are Philips, so it was annoying that the gateway didn’t even see it amongst the other bulbs,nor did the Osram Lightify Gateway as this is zigbee and not Bluetooth.But it’s ok if you have Apple TV or Apple Speaker anytime, or an iPad which is in the house at the time.I can control it from my iPhone as well to turn it on, off, and adjust brightness.It’s a good bulb, and if you have HomeKit functionality and other HomeKit bulbs, but for me I have loads of Osram bulbs all over house that work with my Philips, my SmartThings, Alexa and Google as well as my Osram Gateway, but only one lonely HomeKit bulb, but that’s my fault not the bulbs.It is a very nice filament bulb that I wanted for a lamp that you can actually see the bulb, but Osram only do this I think as HomeKit enabled and not zigbee so I had little choice.

Seems that every day a new form of controllable 'something' is sent out into the big wide world of us end punters. To be honest it's a bit much sometimes and you can end up with a billion apps and a load of 'gateways' to deal with.Thankfully Osram - a well known manufacturer of quality lamps - is compatible with Philips Hue of which I use. So I use Hue and Osram lights and they have both improved. What has mostly improved with the Osram gear is that it links in easier than it used to. A year ago I fitted an Osram smart lamp and it would not connect to my Hue but. after a bit of internet research I found that it had to be within close proximity of the Hue gateway to be set up. Thereafter it was okay.Now,that's not the case. I've plastered my house with both Hue and Osram lamps and they all work as well as each other so any choices I make are based upon cost and what I think I need in either looks or application.This Osram lamp is of course decorative. In my house it works well I feel, but that is most certainly a personal thing. I like it and it looks right for it's location.Quality is good - but one should expect that given the cost of these things and the brand. I do note that some other reviewers have had issues but I have not.Overall this is a smart lamp that works well in my system and looks the part.

This is our first smart bulb in our house. I had in my mind's eye some sort of hub that connects to all of the smart devices in your house, but it just isn't so. At least with this bulb, you just plug it in, then connect to it using the app, and you are ready to go.I used this with the iPhone XR, connection was easy and it allows you to turn on and off and dim. You can also tell Siri to do the same, which also works, and invite others to do the same.I like the fact I can turn the big light off in our bedroom without having to get out of bed. My less enamoured by technology wife, likes the fact that you can turn it on and off from the light switch. I called it a big light and it should be appreciated that it really is big.A globe over 10cm in diameter.It gives out a pleasing yellowish warm light, and the dimming works well, which is not true for all our LED bulbs.The thing I wonder, is whether its really worth having smart lights that can be voice controlled from your phone. Its kind of neat at first, but then you are back to old habits of using the switch.

Super easy to setup and works as described - not sure what the complaints are from the other reviewers.The instructions that come with the lamp are straight forward:1. Power on the lamp on in an E27 screw socket - it will then start flashing to indicate ready to pair2. Scan the QR code sticker using the Homekit App on iOS3. Connect to and name the bulb - if you are installing multiple at once you can tap to ask the bulb to flash to identify itself4. (Optional) Add the lamp to an existing or create a new group - useful for multiple bulbs/devicesI found it easy to get the bulb connected and working, reacting fast and smoothly to dimming instructions. The maximum brightness is brighter than many E27 bulbs on the market,and is often more than you need. I've used this to set 3 pre configured scenes but I could add more:1. Normal - 90% brightness2. Dim - 30%3. Bright - 100%I use normal for most of the time but it's nice to have the option to quickly boost or dim the light levels. I will definitely be looking into getting more of these for my house!

I bought this Smart Lamp for the office room as the wiring wasn't working anymore. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the functionality as well as the capabilities of the Osram Lamp. Installation was very easy, keying in the code or just scanning it with the smartphone and the apple home app recognized the lamp immediately. It was very easy to choose different light options as well as saving the settings for different light scenes. As a user of Osram Lamps as well as Philips Hue Lamps there are some differences. The Apple HomeKit app Osram is connected to is not as user-friendly as the Hue App. The light, unfortunately, isn't as bright as I hoped it would be.The colour choices are however lovely and for my use perfectly suited. The response time between app and light setting could be a bit better but doesn't really affect the usage.All in total I am very happy with the lamp, also compared with the price it is a great choice and alternative. Works perfectly and I would buy it again for another room.

I'm largely pleased with this Apple HomeKit-system smart lightbulb, that's no more sizeable than a traditional incandescent bulb. We don't really do much in the way of smart home stuff - but decided that it would be useful to set up a couple of separately networked items that we could control from a distance to give the impression that the house is occupied when we're away. This has proved to be a practical, easy add on that can be made less predictable than traditional timer-operated lights when away from home. The bulb is installed to the HomeKit system via QR code supplied on a little leaflet with the bulb - this code needs to be saved, so that it can be used with later Apple devices...as the bulb has a longer life expectancy than the devices that work it! The bulb can also be switched on/off as a regular light. The bulb does flicker several times whenever it's switched on. Initially I worried that the bulb might be defective, but it has lasted several months without issue.

Nearly £40 I find extortionate for a light bulb, however the HomeKit technology from apple is pretty impressive. I like the app because it solves that problem of when you've got in to bed and are nowhere near a light switch. Laziness at it's highest, but a problem solver.The app that comes with Osram if you don't have the HomeKit is fine, a bit clumpy and prone to bugging, it wasn't as efficient as i'd have hoped which can be a pain at times.The bulb itself is massive, works best in a lamp or somewhere where the bulb itself is almost a feature.This worked fine from app to bulb usage, i've only got the one and it's all good. Boxed well,the instructions are clear.4 Stars because I find them a cheaper alternative to the likes of Philips hue but also not that cheap to be considered cheap. As just a standard glass bulb I can see it breaking easily, I don't have confidence in the build quality as much as I do with other brands.

When I received this I was intrigued as to the use of this bulb. I replaced a conventional bulb in our living room and started to experiment. I very quickly realised that this bulb would look excellent in the lamp in the corner of our living room, we use this lamp when the main lights are too bright and we want to settle down in a more relaxing atmosphere.Once I downloaded the relevant app and moved bulb to lamp, I began experimenting with the bulb and was enthralled with the different levels of light available all accessed from my phone. It has ever since stayed in the lamp and is a very welcome addition to our evening.The bulb itself replaces an E27 large screw type,it is a very retro/vintage looking design with LED filaments.The app is very easy and intuitive and you quickly find the ambiance you're looking for. This bulb has many uses and obviously your own ideas will determine how and where you use yours.

I converted my Dining room lamp to ES from BS and installed this lamp.It is designed to be seen, no lampshade required.It produces a warm golden light, not true white and not that bright either.As a main light, its not bright enough, as a decorative lamp, you'd need another flex hanging down to use it.Very posy, you see these in cafes a lot and they use three or four to give the light output of one normal lamp.The lamps trick is to be controlled by your iPhone or iPod app.You can scan the bar code with your phone camera (IoS 10 and above) and the 'HOME' app opens and pairs with the iphone., You can then dim it and or turn it on and off again, as long as someone doesn't operate the wall switch first.It's all right,but I see these concepts as a limited gimmick, I may be a PC expert, but cannot see the need for remote lamp switching and the extra cost of having it on a whim.Pretty bulb though.

If you want a smart bulb that is quite attractive in it's own right, with a warm glow and dimmable, this is the one for you...with reservations.You can use this bulb as a standalone, albeit fairly expensive "normal" lightbulb, but, of course, you will get this to use smartly. In that regard it is good. You have to download the Osram app and there are no problems with this, it is very simple to use and easy connection. The app allows you to turn the light on and off and dim between 1 and 100%. Apparently Alexa and Google functionality is coming soon and actually the sooner the better. At the moment if you want to turn off/on you have to select and open the app then choose which appliance you want to use.This takes more time than going to the light switch and operating it.So as an early adopter, aware of its shortcomings, I like this bulb. I'm looking forward to when I can "talk" to it, though!

The fashion for ‘retro’ filament bulbs has seen this sort of bulb become quite popular. This offering from Osram is aligned to the Apple HomeKit system so can’t be controlled by others such as Alexa. I use HomeKit so this is fine for me but something to be wary of if you want remote control and aren’t an Apple user.The light does look very stylish in place and I love the warm light which it emits.The thing which surprised me, however, was the size. This is a huge bulb - much bigger than a conventional bulb. When I received it I did have to consider carefully whether I really had anywhere I could use it.The second issue (minor irritation)is that I found it impossible to get into the box without tearing it apart.At just under £35 at the time of this review it is also a pretty hefty price tag. And it is for that reason that I have scored it as four overall.

These bulbs are big but looks quite nice and expensive, particularly if being used in an exposed industrial type setting. But still use the E27 type fitting making them compatible in many common sized bayonet type screw fittings. They setup very easily. When first turned on they flash for some reason. Once set up in Homekit, they very easily turn on and off. There is a short delay about about 0.5 seconds between each action unless you haven't used the app in the while, it takes about 1.5 seconds. To sync you just plug in and turn the bulb on, then scan the QR code within the instructions.Once nice feature would be for the HomeKit app to explain how to dim the bulb.This supports 3D Touch or a long press on a supported iPhone. It takes a short while but the bulb dims shortly after your selection.
