This bulb is made in Germany, and the quality of metalwork is visibly better than some LED bulbs I've had before - I have often wondered whether there is one LED bulb manufacturer in China whose products are then rebranded for the variety of companies that put their name to them. Whether the country of manufacture will have any bearing on the lifespan of the bulb I can't say.I've just swapped this bulb with an AmazonBasics 14W LED bulb and was surprised to see that this bulb is quite a bit smaller than the Amazon one. You kind of have an idea of the size of a standard domestic light bulb and this has made me realise there can be quite a variety.At the time of writing this review there are two other reviews for this product.Both complain that this bulb doesn't dim. I can't comment on whether dimmable version of this bulb is in fact dimmable, but I can confirm that my non-dimmable one works exactly as you would hope.This is an 8W LED equivalent to a traditional 60W bulb and gives off 806 lumens, which is plenty bright enough for a normal domestic bulb. I have found my 14W Amazon bulb was uncomfortably bright for our bedroom.One way that manufacturers achieve a higher lumen value for their bulbs is to make them slightly more directional - so light doesn't come off the bulb in all directions. That's the case with this bulb - it has a fairly long white plastic section before you get to the glass bit - or is it plastic? It's hard to tell by tapping on it.So if you're hanging this bulb upside down in a domestic light fitting then you'll find it creates a lot of light pointing downward, but doesn't create such a glow on the ceiling. And if you have the bulb in a light fitting that holds it the right way up the you might find the illumination of the floor below it isn't so great - subject of course to your lampshade's ability to reflect light downward.

This Non-Dimmable 8.5W E27 LED lamp from Osram has 2700K colour temperature with a nominal light output of 806 lm, which equates to a claimed efficiency of about 95 lm per Watt. The lightly frosted glass diffuses the slightly yellowish light well without blocking much, and it is noticeably brighter than my 600 lm bulbs.My sample of the two types of bulb offered on this page is NOT dimmable. One should not attempt to use it with a remote-control solid-state switch or phase control dimmer as these will quickly hasten its demise. However, it is very happy with a relay based PIR automatic switch and will long outlast any CFL in that same situation.In common with most LED pendant lamps the light mainly falls downward over a less than 180 degree cone,not as good as most CFLs;it is instantly on at full brightness, much better than a CFL;it will light happily when freezing cold, unlike a CFL;it uses less electricity than an equivalent brightness CFL, and a lot less than the old Tungsten bulb;best of all, it is not prematurely aged by frequently being switched on and off, much better than a CFL.Do not let the LED lamp get too hot. Heat is the single biggest enemy of any LED bulb. It must be hung in a well ventilated space to allow it to stay cool.This Osram (measured at 8.5W consumption from the mains) runs its heat-sink quite hot at about 55C above ambient. This is not unexpected because it is a smaller bulb with a significantly less massive heat-sink than my less powerful Auraglow 6W bulbs. So there is a possibility it might not last for the claimed 15,000 hours (just under two years if left On 24/7), only time will tell and I’ll report back if there is an early failure in this newer technology from Osram.I've added a picture to show how it compares in size with an Auraglow (left, with finned heat-sink) and a Philips (right, and the biggest).

I am an amazon vine reviewer. I have replaced an existing standard (E27) Edison fitting fluorescent bulb by the Osram LED Star Classic A 60 in our bedroom. The existing bulb was 18W and the new Osram is 8W rating. Both bulbs are rated as an equivalent 60 W as with the former incandescent bulbs.The overall impression so far is that the Osram bulb illuminates the bedroom – which is 4 metres square – very well. It illuminates instantly when switched on.The light from the bulb is “soft” with no glare and reaches all parts of the room.We think that the Osram light gives out a better illumination than the bulb we removed. We don’t have a light meter, but we did do a “before and after” test,and believe the light is better. The old bulb did not illuminate the whole room as well as the Osram.There is a power saving of 10W compared with the former bulb – it all adds up when expressed on a yearly basis. It has an A+ energy rating. There is much information on the Osram box. It is expected to last 15000h –or 15 years –based on being lit 2.7 hours per day! It comes with a 3-year guarantee.The bulb looks to be well made (in Germany).I think this bulb is well worth a try.

This screw fitting lamp replaces an incandescent bulb very well as it gives out light with that yellow tinge that they are famous for without that horrible green cast that is prevalent among low energy bulbs. The light isn't by any means 'white' but is truly similar to a traditional old fashioned bulb and is warm and cheery. It achieves full brilliance and a steady colour in roughly a couple of seconds (not needing ages to warm up). After so long with the last generation of low energy lamps, it is really refreshing to sit in a room with this 'traditional' colour light again, yet knowing that it is still saving me money!A very acceptable replacement lamp for a traditional light wherever you want it.Construction wise it is very robust and you don't worry that you will smash it when screwing it in! I would imagine that I could sit happily with the bulb for years!

This is a good bulb, it throws out a warm white (yellow tint), which I prefer in the living room and bedroom, I like cool white better in the kitchen and garage. Easy to screw in, instant light at the flick of a switch, no warm up time, only 8W equivalent to the old 60W bulb.Please note as there are 2 versions of this bulb - dimmable and not dimmable - make sure you select the right one. A non dimmable bulb will not work if you dim it. Personally, I do not think LED bulbs have come on sufficiently to provide a good level of dimming. I have one on a security light (

This bulb has a base which used to be called "Edison screw (ES)" but now tends to be called E27.It is designed to have the same brightness and colour rendering of an original 60 watt filament lamp which it does.Over your old 60 watt bulb it has a few advantages and I don't think any disadvantages (other than initial cost)Only uses 8 watts versus 60 wattsFast startup time and no wait for it to get brighter (like compact fluorescent lamps)Long life, up to 15 years with a 3 year warranty from the makers.Evenly distributed lightThe lamp is made in Germany.

Mine was the non-dimmable version, perfect for my requirements and I found it came on instantly with no warm-up delay and produced a pleasant bright light that had enough of a yellow tone to feel bright without being harsh, equivalent to an old-style 60W bulb, it's perfect for living room/bedroom use.The design of the bulb has an opaque section in the stem which means the light given off is stronger at the end of the bulb rather than being uniform from root of the stem outwards.This suits my light fitting but might not suit all so bear it in mind.

This bulb gives off a nice, warm light, very similar to a traditional incandescent bulb.In the right enclosed lamp shade, it would be perfect. However, if the bulb is on show, or if you need all-round light emission, it might disappoint, because the shiny white plastic housing for the electronic circuitry is quite prominent and prevents much light being sent in the direction of the screw thread.For this reason, I personally prefer the

I really couldn't believe the price for an Osram bulb.Plenty bright enough and dimmable too, I just couldn't believe the price. I know it was an Edison 27mm (E27) screw in but half the price of the Bayonet 22mm (B22) and all you need is the E27 to B22 adapter and you have the option for both.I would recommend these but I must add I did buy it from the warehouse deals.

I have the non-dimmable version of this bulb and have to say that it is very good. Having used them before I have found Osram bulbs to be very good anyway, and this one hasn’t disappointed me. The warm white tone is exactly right, and it is a good bright bulb which works perfectly in my porch light.

Not quite sure what to say about the lightbulb other than the fact that it meets my expectations: it's bright enough but not too bright. When you switch it on, it comes up reasonably bright straight away, not like some others where you have to wait for ages before they become bright. I like it.

Another quality LED lamp from Osram, who keep so much in house rather than just being a brand slapped on a factored product. Excellent lamps at a reasonable price.
