Ah the joys of LED lighting. I only seem to use Edison screws in odd lamps. This is 230V in case they don't correct the description. I've compared it to the stronger 60W equivalent, which I got originally. This is perfectly strong as a reading lamp. This is really a dinky little bulb about 9.6cm long. I previously bought an EVER led bulb, which is a stonking 11.5 cm long and wouldn't fit into a lamp with a side opening. The EVER bulb had the annoying habit of emitting a high pitched sound, just like the tinnitus I'd experienced 6 months before due to anaemia. It was very worrying, until I reread an Amazon review complaining about this. It's nice to regain the silence with the Philips. However in another lamp, there was a sound issue, and I pinned this down to unrepairable faulty wiring causing flickering, so bulb stayed, lamp went. You have to remember with LED bulbs, that the base contains circuitry to convert the current from alternating to direct, otherwise the little diode would pop, plus a thumpingly big aluminium heatsink to cool the poor little component (that would be why they are so heavy). So ultimately the light is concentrated in a downward pool. Unlike tungsten, halogen and compact fluorescent, you don't have that gentle pool of light on the ceiling. So that's all fine in a lamp. But in a pendant, if you're into subtle lighting effects, you're going to have to compensate with uplighters. So the question then is, the price. Philips was previously very expensive on Amazon. Currently they seem to be cutting the price to beat Auraglow (my usual purchase for LEDs). Strangely Philips claim a total lifespan of about half that of their competitors. This bulb is also completely smooth, whereas their competitors tend to have cooling fins at the base ..... according to web gurus the fins are essential to maintain life. I've got a little bemused at life claims. Probably, by the time you buy a replacement in 10 plus years time, the price will have dropped. The other brands may last 25 years and still be shining strongly (the strength is supposed to decay over time). But who can predict that?Should you replace? If you use a bulb a lot...definitely, LEDs have a good energy saving. If you are running a bulb in a cold place, definitely...they are not affected by low temperatures like compact fluorescents. But doing a blanket replacement of compact fluorescents in a domestic situation is a bit of a leap of faith. I read around this a lot, and the costs of running the fluorescents until they die seemed to be the same as buying an LED at present. Technically the yukky fluorescents with their mercury vapour have already caused environmental issues when they were made. You might as well see them out. The LEDs are also heavy on aluminium (bauxite ores mined from the tropics are energy intensive to process into the metal) and I think contain small amounts of gallium arsenide. I have with a heavy heart resolved to only replace one to two bulbs a year, so my stock of compact fluorescents gradually dies out.

Using this bulb instead of an older style energy saving bulb in the garage and am impressed with the light it emits.Changed the bulb, well fitting had one bulb gone and this was one to replace it with and wow bright light! Not an worry about it not being dimming as just a normal bog standard fitting in garage above the freezer so this fits in fine. Just quite impressed with the light it gives off and no slow build up to it either, which makes a change from the previous older energy saving bulbs we have used in there. An old fashioned bulb shape not a candle fitting style. Shades seem to vary and some bulbs look better in some fittings more than others. For us this works well in the garage (Ikea stainless steel effect drop down fitting). Not sure just how long this will last. It does say so many hours with light on each day etc but did have a Philips long life one that only lasted six months. Another few that are still going strong. My advice would be to buy when on offer, as full price seems a bit of a gamble at times. Can you imagine taking a bulb back after two years and trying to explain and prove how many hours it has actually worked, think I will leave that so someone else.Well packed (more like double packed thankfully as have light bubble broken in the past). Delivery pretty quick.Just so impressed with the light quality as have three other lights also in garage and seeing them all lit you can see the difference in true bright light compared to older style energy saving bulbs, cobwebs have appeared.

While there are now a vast range of LED bulbs on the market it's reassuring to buy one from an established manufacturer such as Phillips. However, there's no mention of a guarantee on the packing of this light bulb which is possibly concerning. The Philips website indicates a 12 month guarantee which is less than more expensive bulbs.Positively the bulb comes on instantly, with no lag common with florescent low-enegy bulbs. It also looks like a traditional incandescent bulb. The 'warm white' light matches that of traditional light bulbs. So all good. Possibly less positively the bulb is a fair bit heavier than a standard light bulb which may cause problems when used in a desk lamp for example. Also the energy saving compared to fluorescent bulbs is not particularly marked. A 40w equivalent as a fluorescent bulb will be around 8w and this LED version is only 2 less at 6w. Of course this bulb is forecast to last for 15 years and will not take longer to reach full brightness as it gets older. But it is a fair bit more expensive so you need to consider whether this is really a money saving option.Overall the bulb is fit for purpose but the cost of being an early adopter and the limited energy saved need to be borne in mind. You'll obviously realise that this bulb has a screw fitting and is not a bayonet UK standard fit.

This LED lightbulb provides a lovely warm light that equates to the old 40 watt bulb. One of the benefits of this bulb over the standard energy saving bulb is its instant light, as there is no warming-up period required and in theory it will last substantially longer (time will tell!). The one draw-back I would say is that the design means that most of the light beams from the top of the bulb, as the bottom of the bulb is the plastic framework that supports it; this results in an uneven light distribution when fitted into an open-topped shaded lamp, with more light streaming from the top of the shade and significantly less from the bottom, resulting in a duller light at the lower level. If this distribution effect doesn't bother you or you'll be using the bulb in a pendant light then this bulb will be excellent for that purpose. Certainly I'm pleased to see that the stated lumens is in fact accurate, as I haven't necessarily found that with other LED bulbs I have seen and used. It's also good to see that LED bulbs are reducing in price and becoming more affordable as in this Philips E27 6 Watt LED 30 V Edison Screw A60 FR ND/4 bulb.

its embarrassing to be an enthusiast for something like a brand of light bulbs, but its a simple fact is that Philips really deliver on these. I ordered this the day that one of the conventional 60w bulbs in the dining room blew and its an excellent replacement .i'm used to LED bulb manufacturers and sellers overclaiming their output so that what is supposed to be 40 watt equivalent, turns out to be 25watts. Philips is good as its word: this is supposed to be 40 and it is certainly that - if anything its rather more - i thought it was a 60watt bulb when i switched it on.the other thing is that its a good clean even light, it comes on instantly and is immediately at full brightness. Its meant to last for many years: if it does its money well spent, and the minor cost differences between these and cheaper bulbs are not worth the obviously poorer quality that have previously disappointed me.The only downside is that they seem only to do warm white and I like the more daylight tinged cool white, but perhaps that will come

They only drawback with these bulbs at them moment is that they are mostly available in only screw fittings and I have no light sockets other than bayonet. This issue is easily resolved with the, extremely cheap, purchase of adaptors. That apart these bulbs are what I have been waiting for through all the dim days of energy saving bulbs Not only do the fulfil the energy saving criteria- Apparently 84% less than a filament, they last, practically, forever (at least that's the claim) and they recall the heady days of filament bulbs by actually lighting the room straight away; No more energy saving dimness at switch on. Also they generate virtually no heat and they are less bulky than the (now)old fashioned energy savers and the packaging is easy open.I am a big fan and, to be honest am running out of new positive things to say on my reviews of these fabulous bulbs. So apologies for a little bit borrowing from previous reviews.Anyway, excellent lightbulbs, highly recommended.

The Philips E27 Warm White 6W LED Bulb is a well-priced efficient energy saving bulb that delivers a warm 'homely' white glow.Look-wise the LED bulb looks like your run-of-the-mill screw-in light bulb. Okay, so the upper glass section of the bulb is opaque, which is what undoubtedly orchestrates the 'warm white' effect of the bulb. Nevertheless, when screwed into a lamp or light fitting, the bulb doesn't look out of place or draw attention to itself in any unusual way. When you turn the light on it illuminates to its full glow immediately, unlike the old-style of energy efficient bulbs that seemed to take an age to illuminate.Furthermore,I've found that for reading the bulb gives an almost perfect light - providing a nice full light without making the pages on a book glare in an otherwise darkened room. All in all, I really can't fault the bulb. It'll save us money. It provides an excellent warm light. And we shouldn't need to change it for quite some time.

It's great to see that energy efficient light bulbs are now available which look like the bulbs we're used to - this one with a screw fitting is equivalent to a 40W old-style bulb. It also has the benefit of coming to full brightness straight away, which is a big improvement on the older type of energy efficient bulbs which had you squinting through the gloom for ten minutes while they slowly work up to full brightness. I use this bulb as a warm light for the living room in the evening, and it's great, and very good to know it's saving me money and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come. While the info says that it will last 15 years, it also says this is based on three hours of use a day.Living in Scotland, where it's already pretty dark by about 4pm, I'm certainly using it more than three hours a day, but even if it 'only' lasts seven or so years, it will have saved a good bit of money. Very pleased with it.

I did this review for another bulb and the numbers are identical ...Ok so the first thing to note is the WATTAGE. It says 6 Watts but this is an LED bulb so the comparible wattage to the 'old' filament style bulb is 40Watts. So for brightnesss and output you have a good comparison. In terms of cost saving you 15% of your old electricity. So that's great news right? Mmmmm. L:ets think about this. This bulb is £5.99. The average filament bulb costs 60p. About a tenth of the price. The average bulb costs £0.007p per hour or around £12 per year (roughly with 5 hours use per day). This bulb will cost you £1.80 per year. So you will recoup your £5.40 additional outlay in around 6 months. So yup the bulb will last the time and you'll see a good saving. The average bulb lasts 3-4 years so you will save £40 over 4 years for every bulb you change. GOOD PLAN. One last thing. Make sure you get that this is a FULL SCREW Thread.

This lightbulb has impressed me.The light is instant on switching on and there is none of the warming up time normally associated with low energy lightbulbs. This is a major improvement and benefit of the led lightbulb. This 6w bulb gives a good amount of light and I have used it to replace a 40watt lightbulb quite happily. It is too soon to comment on the longevity of the lightbulb right now but it states a lifespan of 15000 hours and with a reputable brand like Phillips, who I have never encountered a problem with I can see no reason to doubt this.Obviously with energy prices constantly on the rise and the old fashioned lightbulbs we knew growing up being banned by the eu we all want to change to low energy products but do not want to compromise on quality of product or light given out, with this in mind I would have no hesitation in recommending this lightbulb.

I have been using energy saving light bulbs for many year. But i have never used a LED light bulb like this one from Philips. The bulb is larger than most other energy saving bulbs you get at the local super markets. At once you see a larger bulb and you feel a bulb that has a good weight behind it. Nothing like the rubbish you used to get that shattered in your hands. Philips have put a lot of thought into this beauty. Now the LED comes to life n an instant. Older bulbs take forever to warm up and come to the correct brightness. That i cant stand. But this bulb comes to light in an instant. Being LED you will find it will run on pennies a day. So cheap to keep on all day if you so wish. Now these bulbs are meant to last 15 years. That i cant answer. But id imagine Philips wouldnt make a claim like this if they were not confident.

This has a 15,000 hour life compared to the 2,000 hour life of many bulbs, a high energy efficiency rating and is a sensible price. It is the equivalent of 40 watts - so not strong enough for the spotlight above my desk, but I think I will put it in one of my bathroom downlights. The lower half of the bulb has a protective coating - so light comes from the upper half of the bulb - which should make it suitable for spotlights and for lights where you want to cast a beam upwards or downwards from the fixing. So if it is fixed in a table lamp, don't expect much downward light. Its shape - that of traditional bulbs - means it should be easier to put in most light fittings than those larger, bulkier, earlier generation energy efficient light bulbs. The LED warm white light is pleasant.

This bulb fits a Large screw in Bulb is a little heavier than an standard bulb and given that it is 6 W (40 W) equivalent, the size of the bulb is exactly the same size as the incandescent equivalent, this bulb fitting a bedroom lamp nicely. The good thing though is that the too white a light and too directional curse of older LED bulbs, is not apparent with this model, though this model may be a little ‘whiter’ and to be honest brighter than the bulbs it replaces, but overall these bulbs are getting better and better matching their older equivalents for colour very well. The brilliant thing as well is that the running costs are a fraction of what a normal bulb is and being LEDs these will last for a very long time,Time enough in theory to recover costs and reap the benefits

This lights up immediately when switched on – it does not need time to warm up like some energy-saving bulbs do. It gives a constant white light which is suitable to read by, although you may need a higher wattage than my 6w/40w equivalent to light a large space. It looks like a normal bulb and it is roughly the same size as a normal bulb, so it should fit into any light fitting in place of a conventional bulb.It is advertised as having a much longer life than many other bulbs, but I have not had time to see whether this is correct (we have a time limit to post reviews on the Vine programme so all I can say is "so far, so good").I'll try to remember to update this review in the future when I know more about the bulb's long-term performance.

The one thing that I would like to have been able to test on this - the life span of the bulb - is something that is just not possible as part of the Vine programme - so I will have to revisit this at some point in the future when I can give an indication as to how long my bulb lasted.Having got that out of the way, it is a light bulb. You screw it in, turn it on and it lights up.It is superior than the standard energy saving bulbs as there is no warm-up time - so you get the full effect straight off. The light is of a nice warm tone and does feel equivalent to a 40W bulb.It is not the cheapest option out there - but it is a good one.The life of the bulb is key to assessing value and I can't do that at this stage.
