I had to laugh when I saw the name of this clothes airer range from Leifheit; Pegasus. Given that these are modern updates of an old-fashioned clothes horse, and that they have fold out 'wings' (their term) then these are horses with wings! Someone within Leifheit's marketing department (maybe even a German) clearly has a sense of humour! Laugh? I nearly swallowed my knockwurst!Anyway, this is the Pegasus 180 Large Clothes Drier - meaning it provides the equivalent of 18 metres of clothes line. The Leifheit, Pegasus 120 Compact Clothes Airer has the equivalent of 12 metres, and by way of comparison and contrast, I reproduce below my review of the more compact version:'For those with limited room for drying clothes (for example,if you live in a block of flats), this product may be just the ticket - although admittedly not a particularly cheap one.Designed to be placed in various configurations to maximise your drying space, it features non-slip feet to enable grip on slippery surfaces such as the interior of a bath - the ideal location if you're going to drip dry. It's also a perfect alternative to a washing line if it's raining outside. For ladies, it may also be the perfect solution for drying your smalls if the local pervert is operating in your neighbourhood...It provides the equivalent of 12 metres of washing line, and the fact it can be used in half a dozen different ways means it's handier and more versatile that the old-fashioned clothes horse option. It probably won't handle a full wash if your machine has a cylinder with a large capacity, but it's ideal for trousers/jeans, socks, underwear, t-shirts and shirts. The Germans know a thing about design technology and build quality, and they've combined both disciplines in this excellent product.'The main difference between the two, obviously, are the dimensions - with the larger model being both wider and taller. It will best fit in either a large kitchen or utility room, but unfortunately it won't fit in the bath - unless you have a huge bath, that is. In addition to the longer drying line (50% longer), the line itself is thicker and will therefore bear heavier clothes and fabrics without snapping. The other significant difference is the larger model also has a row of, for want of a better term, 'pegs' running the length of one side. These grip smaller items such as socks, hankerchiefs and underwear and free up space on the line. It's less versatile than the compact model and hence may not be suitable for smaller flats or houses, however it can be used both indoors (if you have the space) and is also more suitable for outer use than its smaller cousin. My remarks about build and design quality are equally applicable here, and although I'm not meant to comment on variables such a cost, at present the larger model is available at a large discount making it cheaper than the compact.

I love this item; it is such a simple thing, but solves a few laundry problems all in one. What to do with with damp washing about the house, particularly this summer with the weather as it is? I don't want to put the heating on in July, just so I can put half dry washing on radiators; in fact the air inside the house is quite dry and warm at times. This airer has really proved its weight in gold already, within weeks of arrival. It takes such a lot of washing in one go, and it hangs well, no items touching each other, so get full air circulation. I have also used it to flat dry a fairly loosely knitted expensive handmade jumper, which otherwise stretches out of shape if hung to dry.It is marvellous for drying lavender on, either laying flat on top, or hanging the bunches from the rails, makes the washing smell great when you use it for that afterwards as well! I think it will prove even more useful in the winter months when the heating is on, but too wet to hang washing outside. I envisage simply putting this in the spare bedroom, a few feet radiator, much better than putting stuff on radiators, which looks unsightly and ruins clothes (dries out the inner fibre structure long term and damages them). Washing on raditors also means you're not getting the heat into the room, so paying to damage your clothes plus be cold! In this respect I think it will really solve quite a long term problem, where else to put it out. Yes, it is quite large, it would fit in an en-suite by day perhaps, if you haven't a spare room, or even a study? But to be honest, many of these are just too small to work properly, to get any decent air flow (I have a scientist husband, who tells me such things) and this would take a whole washload in one go. It is pretty study and easy to clean, older wood type ones can leave marks on your clothes. A very simple item, maybe not glamorous, but highly effective and a great purchase; would recommend it to anyone.

The design of this airer is pretty nice. The entire thing is quite lightweight (much lighter than others I've owned) and is easy to put up (came flat in a box, no assembly required, just unfold the legs and wings, and you're done). Also has a small bag which I'm assuming is for pegs (although you wouldn't get many in).Unlike others I've had in the past, this one is quite tall which means you're not left hunched over putting clothes on it and ending up with a sore back after (and as I suffer from chronic back pain, this is definitely a plus). Was pleased that the little red delicates holder on the side was easy to use and held quite alot of socks, freeing up more room than I'd normally have.As the thing is so light to move and put up and easy to place clothes upon, would definitely recommend this to people who struggle with bending over or dragging items around. Would probably be ideal for the elderly, or for someone who is perhaps taller and struggles with hunching over on the lower models (might also suit a wheelchair user who would rather roll under and reach all bars rather than stretch uncomfortably over a lower model).Folds quite flat, but is still quite large to put away and really needs to be considered if you're going to buy this. The only real problem I can see with this is that it is so light weight it is very easy to knock over if you haven't balanced clothes on it correctly (also plastic does feel a little flimsy so beware of being rough with it). Don't put this on your patio or balcony during windy weather - it'd probably blow away like the house in The Wizard of Oz.Otherwise good product, and it'll come in handy since the lack of Summer weather is making it impossible to hang clothes outside.

Update after 6 years...I felt I had to update this, as I always wonder how long stuff might last for when reading other people’s reviews. Happy to say, the airer is still going strong, no signs of rust, metal weakening or plastic parts splitting. (It doesn’t often stay outside overnight though). I’m ordering the replacement part today for the sock pegs (called Leifheit small item holder in case you need it), as it got bashed in a recent house move.Original review:Well, looking through the reviews, I have to agree with all the positive comments, I think everyone has covered the fact that this is a very robust yet lightweight drier,I can dry full loads of laundry outside very effectively then in the evening we can pick the whole thing up (with clothes still on it) bring it inside - it fits through the back door - to fold clothes up. It even stands up to the kids making hide-outs under and around it! Cheaper than buying them a Wig-Wam ;-)I weigh the feet down if there’s more than a fresh breeze, but overall it’s a robust design, and dries well even at capacity.I like that it has sock pegs along one rail, they dry much quicker hung up on this. The pegs are removable if you didn't want to have them.on the very rare occasion we need to put this away, it folds easily, and more importantly for me, stays folded up, no crashing over in the cupboard!A must-have if you have a bigger family, (we are 5) and don't want to use a tumble drier, or the whole house to look like Wishy-Washy's Laundry shop!!

This clothes airer provides a surprising amount of 'line space'. Even without the sides folded out, it stands like a table and offers a decent amount of space to hang a few items from. With the 'wings' out there is more than adequate room for a large load of washing. The attached pegs are great for hanging small items from and frees up room on the main airer space. I thought it may be a bit flimsy to start with but once there are a few items of clothing drying, the added weight gives this a robust feel. It seems very well made and I have no doubt that this will give years of loyal service. It is large, very large and may not be suitable for drying clothes indoors if you want to have the sides opened out.During the summer though it is perfect for drying clothes outdoors and of course you can move it around the garden so that it always catches the sun. You don't have to have both sides opened out, if you only require one then you can leave the other side collapsed and it doesn't unbalance the airer. In a nutshell: At full price this is a costly solution when there are cheaper fold away airers, even when on offer it is still a pricy piece of kit - but the build quality reflects that. When out and unfolded it is huge, but it folds very thin and can easily be stored inside an under stairs cupboard or elsewhere without taking up much room. Oh, and it also comes with a peg bag - bonus!

I studied long and hard before deciding on this particular model of airer to buy. I carefully considered the customer reviews of as many of the different makes & models that I could before opting for this particular one partly because it had favourable reviews but also because it was very reasonably priced (and well reduced from it's original selling price) but it also has a THREE YEAR GUARANTEE - which even most of the expensive makes don't have and the cheap ones CERTAINLY won't last that long!!I find it sturdy, capacious and very easy to use and it doesn't seem to take up too much room at all, I simply tuck it over the window ledge at one end and it fits in nicely. As stated elsewhere it will take nearly two loads of washing and, if you stack it carefully - you can get all sorts of items along the edges and the sides to extend the drying space (i.e. socks, pants, tights etc). When it is folded down it fits into a surprisingly small, compact space also, which is a big bonus for our relatively small house! On the whole, highly recommended!

I really like this pegasus dryer, it is a good size which meant I was able to get two loads of my weekend wash hung up and dried by the following morning. It is large and luckily I have enough space to both store and use them, if you are short of space a smaller model might suit you better. The clothes can be hung between the lengthway wires which are a good two inches apart meaning that you can hang jeans on adjacent rows without squashing them together. The dryer is a good height which means that dresses and trousers can be hung without worrying that they will drag on the ground. It appears to be quite sturdy although not too heavy to manoeuver and very easy to set up; you simply pull the legs apart and fold the wings out.The wings are great for hanging extra items on but they can be folded back over the top if you don't need them and the clips along one side for hanging socks is really useful as they can be hung up without using up valuable space for those larger items. All in all a great item.

Really like this product, I was in the process of looking for a new clothes airer when this became available on Amazon Vine. Good timing! Out full, this is approximately the length of a radiator as is my current one. After 8 years my Ikea one has become a bit bent in places after so much use. Hopefully this one'll last as long. Whereas my current airer you hang a t-shirt (for example) and then proceed to do the same on the all the sideways rungs, this one has them lengthways as well as widthways. What this means is that my toddler quilt, cellular blankets and bath towels don't need to be folded in half before hanging over it.The expanding sides can be folded over the top if you don't need to use all of the drier and there are some pegs attached that you can use for socks and underwear. Overall it is a great price and well worth having. I've included two images in the customer photo gallery that shows more about the size.

Having used a similar airer on holiday I decided to buy one on return home.It seems to be a little unstable when opened out, however when the clothing is on, it stays firm even in wind. There is a lot of space if you use every line. It is also excellent if you want to dry a few things flat.It is much less intrusive in the garden than my rotary drier and allows me to garden without dodoging the laundry. And unlike the rotary line I can also move it around to catch the suns rays when the autumn days creep in.When purchasing consider where you wish to use it, size of family etc because it is big. I love my laundry to dry outdoors but had not considered the need to use it indoors sometimes.I think it will be a bit big for my spare room and may have to revert to my Hangaway.Anyone buying it primarily for indoor use needs to consider the measurements.Overall it is robustly made and should last for years.

The Lerfheit is a good sized airer that takes up little space when not being used, and vast amounts of washing when it is.Unfolding the beast is easy enough, and initially I was surprised about how high it was ... clearly this allows you to hang clothes like jeans and towels without risk of them catching the floor. We do have the smaller version of this, and it does seem a little more stable, but once opened up and in use it is perfectly fine.It will devour a huge amount of washing, and is very useful for draping over drying jumpers. We are lucky enough to have a reasonable sized utility room, so it can sit in there quite easily ... otherwise, indoor use might be difficult if space is limited. My wife now uses it outdoors as well, and the rotary dryer has not had a look in.Very useful, seems to be well made ... I hope the plastic bits stand the test of time.

I relied on past reviews to purchase a solid airer which could be used indoors or outdoors and which wouldn't blow over in the wind. unlike the concertina ones which are, in my opinion, useless! I bought according to these reviews and I am very pleased with my choice and would certainly recommend this Leifheit Pegasus 180 Clothes airer. It also comes complete with a pegbag and slots for 'smalls' which sometimes can be fiddly and take up room which you need for larger items. Also the item was delivered earlier than stated which is a plus. Brilliant Leifheit. AND Amazon. I wish I could give a further few stars!!!

Well this is an excellent addition to any laundry. It adds vital drying space and is extremely robust. The supporting legs and the additional drying arms pull into place and lock firmly and securely. It certainly takes masses of weight without flinching and can be used indoors and out easily. It is easy to lift and transport and sturdy in use, even in my windy garden. There are lots of hanging rails. It is so much more substantial than several other types that I have used on holiday abroad where they are a very popular provision in apartments. Leifheit lives up to its name

Would like to say I pursued this clothes drier in August ...as I have a few teens in the house forever having showers...so the washing of the towels and having some where to dry them even better was very happy with... But it has broken at the leg part.... It has not lasted that long....as a drying horse I would have to give it a five star because it does what it says ....and has this red thing at the front for drying socks and pants just great... But as for lasting I would have to give it a 1.... These day are we building things to last.... Or not .... Is my question...

22.9.2015

FAB! I measured the place where I was going to put it first to make sure it was the right size. It is really strong and sturdy and holds lots of clothes. It has this great red peg type bit on it that holds socks and pants perfectly. The bars are perfectly spaced to allow air to flow inbetween. It folds up flat when not using so that you can store it easily. Very pleased I bought this size and not the smaller one. Also glad that I paid a little more for this better quality one which should last me years.

we had already got the 150 Pegasus, so when this was on offer, we got it thinking it would be bigger, which it is, however even though it is wider( houses with narrow doorsteps might have trouble moving it from room to room with clothes on it), it is the same length as the 150 Pegasus, however I can not see any detail measurements under its product description. But it is still an excellent airer, worth the money.
