My lady washes a lot so I had been searching Amazon till I bought Minky 30m. As you can see from the picture, one line of 15m can serve in most cases and a few times I used both lines across the whole garden - not looking great but serves best for our heavy load - one line for washed clothes (wet, full) and another for sheets and a few heavier quilts. No problem at all. To be honest, I do not like the idea to make the garden a place of clothes. But, what if your lady needs it dearly? Do not argue, just do it!This product proves amazingly good and I love it. It is a shame I saw many problems from users. I am not against these negative feedback but may I share my thoughts please?1.Base and the plastic lug (Pic 1)To be honest, the base looks nice and was easily installed on my shed. I do not imagine any major problems for wall installation but you may have to dig into the solid wall. Some said the plastic lug used to secure the line broke easily. If possible, I would suggest you install the base somewhere not directly under the sun. It is made of plastic, isn't it? Secondly, I found it help if you could 'zig-zag' the line so the heavy load do not press the base directly, using something like the apple tree in my garden. Not everyone has an apple tree so it may not apply to you. The idea is that we you can aways find ways to improve the product life.2. The diverting hook (Pic 2)Nothing major but a waste from my building work. you may wrap something around the hook but I am lazy and find it works. In addition to reduce the workload to the base unit, I used two or 3 hooks so that I can use the line in a limited space.3. The special tag (Pic 3)Not sure of the name of this end fixing bit. It is well made and easy to use - do use it properly though.4. Retractable lineI find it is easy to retract and stows neatly away when not in use. Some complained it sags but I do not find it a problem - I do tight the line first, then adjust the length from the diverting point properly, hold and finally wrap it around the lug to secure the tightness.Lastly, you can use one line without the other, flexible. With the special brackets, you can remove the reel when not in use.

This wee gadget is cheap as chips, and well worth it.It took me 10 minutes in total to install. It comes with all necessary parts - 4 raw plugs, 4 screws, 2 hooks, 2 pins, a bracket and the unit itself.I attached bracket using the 4 screws to a wooden fence post, the back of the unit slides over the bracket and is secured in place by sliding the 2 pins in through both the unit and the bracket. I suspect it'll take longer than 10 minutes if you're putting it up on a wall using the raw plugs. I screwed in the hooks on either side of my shed. It's perfect! I see people complaining about the line sagging - as you can see by the picture of the item, on the unit itself there's 2 little.... nubs? You attach the line to the hook, then make the line taught by hooking it around those. The lines themselves are long - so long I could probably install extra hooks and double them back to make more line space. I have washing poles for height, but reckon the line would be okay without them.I had the problem on my old line where the washing used to slide down and bunch together. So far I've not encountered this - the line is kind of rubbery, so I guess it's down to that. When you're finished the unit can be removed super easily to avoid weather wear and to prevent any beasties making it their home. I just stick it in my peg bag.All in all I'm very happy with this. It's nice to be able to run around my garden freely on a non-washing day without the fear of my neck being cheese-wired, should I feel inclined to do so....

I was unsure whether to buy this at first due to some of the mixed reviews but glad I went ahead - I’m actually really pleased with this.I bought the single line 15m model as I was a little restricted on how wide a device I could fit in the location. This comes with good instruction as to installing and using the line. I didn’t realise the what hook-lung thing on the bottom was for on my previous line (as was in place when I moved in) but realised from the instructions this is to tension the line. It is a little fiddly to get right at first as you need to pull the cord round twice to make it work but I have the hang of it now.It is very lightweight but seems to cope with everything well.I’ve so far used it for a bunch of mixed loads and it is coping with the weight (heaviest load I’ve used on this so far is 2 bath sheets, a double bedding set (4 pillows, cover and sheet) and 6 hand towels).Installation was easy for me as one of the screws matched up my old model so just needed to screw one additional fixing into wood. I can’t comment on the hook for fixing the washing line as we hook the end tab over a hanging basket hook but it looks like it would definitely do the job.I like that you can easily remove the line from the hanging bracket for storage over winter so the line doesn’t get frail. The retreating line performs well too - don’t just let the line pull in on its own, walk the line back to the housing. So far I’m very happy with this and would recommend it!

We recently purchased one of these from Amazon in an effort to reduce the use of our tumble dryer and save on the electricity bill! We have a baby on the way so every penny counts now!So far we are very pleased with the Minky. It was very easy to install and it is so handy having the two lines. We have had tons of use out of it over the last few weeks so it really is good value for money.Whilst we probably won't use it much over winter if the weather is bad, you could certainly get lots of use out of it during spring and summer. It will save us a fortune being able to dry baby clothes out on the line instead of in the tumble dryer.I am so impressed with it that I'm going to order another and put it up at the other end of the garden, that means I can have clothes on two lines and bed linen on another two lines! The main things I like about this line....1. Excellent value for money2. Takes minutes to install and is very sturdy once installed3. Very discreet compact design, you wouldn't even know its there when its not in use4. Good sturdy lines which have held up no problem at all on windy days5. Is already saving us money because we are not using the tumble dryer so much6. My husbands work shirts seem so much easier to iron when they have been dried out on the washing lineI genuinely have no negative comments about this product and would recommend in an instant.

my other half fixed this unit to our outside wall (me not being handy with a drill), all necessary components for fixing the unit to the wall and attaching the ends of the lines are included in the pack. Installation was very easy. The line lengths are very impressive, I have 2x15m. As I'm using a span of 10m + on each line I did make the investment of two sturdy clothes props to support the line mid length. If you're not using the lines to full extension a clothes line probably isn't necessary. Looping each line twice around the anchor points on the unit prevent the line from sagging whilst pegging washing out. The lines are very sturdy as I use the entire 10m or so for towels, jeans, jumpers and other heavy items, in 3 months there's no indication of the line stretching or looking at risk of snapping. Also, the way we've installed the hooks for the lines to attach to mean the lines aren't parallel when extended, this hadn't affected use...granted, the line extended at angle that isn't 90 degrees from the unit does take marginally longer to automatically retract, but that's easily resolved by straightening the line near the unit when it slows down. On the whole I'm really very pleased with this purchase, I like an old fashioned washing line and this is an excellent alternative to concreting obstructive posts into the garden!

This is a really good product, extremely easy to put up, took me about 5 minutes. Took longer to look out my battery drill than complete the job....The lines are more than enough for a whole load of washing, and do seem pretty strong.I have some concerns about the black plastic rings(?) on the end of the lines that are used to attach onto the metal hooks, but I just wrap the line around a washing pole then I know it's not going anywhere.I've read a lot of people saying that the plastic cleats at the bottom snap, but mine has been fine and used all summer. I can understand if the lines are overloaded and there isn't a prop used but seems like if you take care of them then they should be fine.I actually bring the whole reel into the house when it's not being used, it's just a matter of sliding 2 pins up and lifting it away, as I feel the temperature swings could make the plastic brittle. Could be me being paranoid however...The lines would also be better if they had a slight texture on them, as washing can sometimes slide along it if the pegs aren't tight enough and the line is at a steep angle. All in all, a good buy and it saves space in your garden. If you think this review has assisted in your decision to purchase/or not purchase this item, please indicate it has been helpful. Many thanks!

I can't dissagree more with the 1 star ratings, I am using this line - both of the 15M lengths are extracted about 12m and 13m respectively.I have had more than a fair amount of washing on each line, including duvets and heavy clothes items, and the line does dip a little but has never snapped, drooped, doropped or come lose. I am also not helping the line up with any proping tools, the line is free and only held up by the 4 screws that hold the main unit and each of the hooks for the retractable fixing. I have each line wrapped around the plastic retensions only once each. For those that have had issues, have you tried contacting Minky and seeing if they have a return/replace policy,i am pretty sure they would be more than happy to help. For those interested in this though i would recommend it and i would buy again if i needed to, perhaps as an additional line. For the person who had issues with duvets, have you tried using both lines to hold the duvet, have them slightly apart and put the duvet over both to help support the weight? I dont know what size duvet you are referring to but this would certainly help.My lines are about 12" - 16" apart (from the unit to the other end where the hooks are) so throwing heavier items over the 2 would help balance any weight issues.

The Minky - brilliant contraption for me, my drying space is also my parking space so the fact that the two lines are retractable is ideal. This is my second Minky, the first I had for 9 years before the securing fixture on the bottom of the reel broke. Rather than soldier on with one line I thought I'd cut my losses and get another one. The fixing bracket has not changed in the 9 years since I got my first one, this meant that I didn't have to screw anything new to the wall, I simply had to remove the two pins securing Minky 1 to the bracket, line up the holes of Minky 2 and put the pins back through the fitting and the bracket for it to be ready for action once more.It took me a minute or two at most to swap them over. Those black things you see at the end, they're for sticking on to the hooks when you're putting the line up - they'll fail within a year - all I did was put a securing loop - a bowline no less - close to the end of the line, I left the black things in place. The line itself does not stretch much at all and the thing that retracts the line back in to the drum has never seized etc.For a small space, small garden or if you're not wanting a permanent line up - this is the baby to purchase.

Works really well and feels solid on the wall.Very easy to install straight out of the box (drill needed), and box includes everything you need, including hooks for the 'other end' of the line and rawl plugs.Would highly recommend as the 2x 15m lines give a massive amount of drying space.Once winter arrives, the device can easily be removed by pulling out two metal 'pegs' which attach the body of the device to the wall-bracket (no tools required to do this). The device can then be taken inside and bracket left on the wall. This could be done every time you use the device if required as it's very easy!(Tip: once you've hung the line across your garden, use one hand to pull the line taught, back towards the device, before using your other hand to wrap the line around the cleats at the bottom of the device at least twice. This provides good tension in the line, reducing sagging once clothes are hung. Any excess line between the cleat and the device is then removed automatically by the self-reeling feature.Would also definitely recommend at least one washing line pole to support per line to reduce too much stress on the cleats and extending overall potential life expectancy of the device).

We have been using one of these now for the last five years or more come the brighter weather. The one big thing you have to remember to do when pulling out the line, is to wrap it around the little sticking up bit. If not (yes I will admit to it) I put the washing on for it to all fall into a heap. The great thing I found with this item, is the fact it can go at any space that is needed. The item itself does need to be attached to a hard surface though, as a lot of weight will be on it from the pulling. No velcro or sticky pads to do the trick on putting this up, screws certainly needed.Ours was attached to the outside wall then put around an old tree than pulled it back around the tree other side to have a double line. You do have to pull it tight so that it feels nice and taught.....blankets, shirts, jumpers and bedding have all been on ours. Just wished the birds could fly upside down when they go past it though! There I am trying to save money/the planet by not using the dryer then along come the birds.Better still when washing done it soon retracts back into the reel, leaving you line free.Saves on having to clean the line before each use too when it has been retracted.

I've been using this for 5 months and it's great. To set it up it has a bracket that needs fixing with two screws to a wall. The plastic / wire part can be detached with a pin (very easy) so it won't get left in the rain or ice outside if it isn't used. Some on other reviews attached also a tying fixture to fix the two ends of the wire so it holds more weight, but I haven't found it necessary. Two screws for the reel and one hook for the other end is all I need. The wire can easily hold two normal washing machines full of normal laundry. It can also hold sheets and tings a bit heavier, but not everything. I recently washed two mountain rucksacks and wanted to hang them to drain on this wire, but at over 10 ponds each (and all wights in one place in stead of spread) the wire seemed to get stretchy. Obviously I had to dry the rucksacks someplace else. Maybe if I fixed the wire at both ends on some metal fixtures in stead of the included stop it may have worked, I can't tell. For what I need it's perfect*Update - after 2 years of use, still as good as new

love this and wondered why it took so long to get it! originally bought it as a back up to the rotary airer, and havent used the rotary airer since!! The trick is to have it put as high as you can and use a little footstool to get up there to hang the washing. Make sure the line is wound twice around the feet so its really taut before you hang anything and once on, use a tall prop. My washing sits high in the air, catching all the wind and is literally dry in 20 mins. When finished just release both lines off the hook and its all neatly put away. LOVE it.UPDATE:sad to report that the two plastic feet which the line is wound around on the reel snapped clean off. This was with about 6 months wear and tear.Without these feet you cant even use it as line wont stay in place. Bought 2 sturdy iron feet which I had screwed into the wall just under the unit and they work fine. I really dont know why manufacturers use plastic feet when they are expected to hold heavy wet laundry!! Spending an extra £8 for the feet was a little annoying.

This product was purchased several months ago to replace a washing line that was run from one side of the garden to another. There was no issue with this other than the fact that it looked very untidy. I've always hated the appearance of a washing line that is permanently visible in a garden, even when there is no washing to dry. This product is a great solution for this, especially with the Minky being very easy to fit and it being robust. Its worth mentioning that on a few occasions, my washing was left sinking. A simple solution to this common problem is to implement a hook near to the side of the Minky, this should allow the Minky washing line to wrap back onto it for extra support. With that being said,I have no hesitation in recommending this product as a great value washing line which works well and looks neat and tidy. In summary, an excellent product at a reasonable price. If you found my review helpful, please click the "Yes" or "Helpful" button to state this so I know its been a help to someone. Thank you!

This is a brilliant washing line. I have had a rotary line for years, but so rarely use it as nothing dries on it, just tangles around the many short lines. Also, it takes up so much space in our small garden. I decided to get a retractable line, as I didn't want to replace a rotary line taking up space, with a regular line cutting across the garden - that would limit dog-games, and make mowing awkward. This line is cheap, it is easy to mount, it is sturdy, it is quick to pull out and hook up, it is quick to tidy it away, it has held all I have put out so far. I use 2 props with it because I have the line reel and the hook low enough down for me to reach easily. And the best thing is I can take full advantage of the Manx breeze and dry my washing in next to no time - I expect to be making savings on my electricity bill as I will be cutting down on the tumble drier usage.I have put a second hook further along the house so I can set the line up longer when more drying space is required - it's so flexible.

I bought 2 of these about 10 months ago to replaced an whirly gig washing line that was in the middle of the lawn. I carefully read a lot of reviews before purchasing them so made a calculated decision. They have to span quite a large distance across the garden so no matter how tight you pull them the line will sag - simple fix I bought a Line Prop. My other concern was the plastic lug underneath had broken on a few and other people said that when the line was at a long extension it slide through the lug - simple fix I put a metal cleat on the wall next to each reel and use that to tie the line off.Perfect - all problems solved and the lines are excellent. The line inside the reel is fairly thick and good quality,no signs of wear and tear despite having to use a prop on one of them. They retract well and are inconspicuous. Easy to fit to a wall, all fixings are included. With the addition of the metal cleats on the wall they are a perfect washing line. I would never go back to the whirly gig now.
