I’ve added some useful assembly tips further down and the photos relate to the tips.I’d spent quite some time looking for an outdoors solution. I was about to buy one of those retractable lines that fix to the wall but a lot of people had issues with the line sagging over time and the bottom plastic bits that the line wraps around breaking.I actually really wanted something that’d look nice (to fit in with when I redo the garden). Thankfully, I came across this wall fix solution. Even though the protective box version is more expensive it looks really modern and sleek. It’s stainless steel. Due to living near the coast I’m planning to buy protective oil to rub in (protects the stainless steel from salt water).Useful tips:I installed this on my own and it was very easy.1.It’s not immediately clear from the instructions but screw the bottom 2 screws into the raw plugs in the wall until they’re sticking out by 1cm. This allows you to slot the dryer onto the wall and it’ll hang onto the wall comfortably. It’s designed to be installed this way. Once hanging on the wall you can move onto screwing the top 2 screws in. The black rubber things easily slide in between the plate and wall.2. Don’t open the dryer until you’ve partly screwed in the top 2 screws as well. If you open it with only the bottom screws in place it will put a lot of strain on the top half. The wall bracket is strong metal so shouldn’t be a problem but just in case. You’ll probably need to open it fully eventually to screw in the top 2 screws more easily.3. You don’t need to put the whole length of your screwdriver through the instrument they give you. This’ll make more sense when you’re doing it rather than reading it now. You’ll get more than enough leverage to screw the screws with the screwdriver in with it in just past the tip (see photo). If you have a long screwdriver and try turning the instrument with the screwdriver in completely you’ll probably come against the arms of the dryer as you’re twisting and it’ll take forever to screw the screws in all the way (you’ll only twist a small amount and have to readjust your screwdriver). By only putting the screwdriver in slightly you’ll have more room to twist and get it done quicker. A long paragraph for a simple observation, but I was doing it the other way first and it was taking ages!4. Don’t be tempted to screw the screws in really tight. I did the bottom ones quite tight and when I came to put the doors on the bottom of the doors were touching the wall behind when opened out. It’d be easy to scratch the stainless steel like this. You can check if you’ve evenly tightened everything by looking at the gap between the top of the plate and the bottom of the plate. Remember there are those rubber things between the plate and wall. They squash as you tighten. My bottom ones were squashed a lot more than the top. I had to take the doors off and loosen the bottom screws slightly. They were still tight just not over-tightened.5. Putting the doors on...best done after you’ve opened the dryer. I initially decided to put them on with the dryer in the collapsed position and despite my best efforts managed to get the clothes line stuck where the door had slotted in! I had to carefully tease the door off without it hitting the wall. Much easier to do when the lines are out of the way. A pole on the doors snaps onto the plastic cap and bottom you slide on. This is the only bit which is a bit flimsy feeling. It would have been nice if the plastic pieces (cap and bottom) could be more sturdy. I don’t think it’ll affect the function of the dryer but the doors don’t precisely/perfectly line up when closed...I think due to them being clipped to these plastic bits which are on the looser side compared to everything else. You can’t tell from a distance. Only when very up close.Overall - looks like a great item which folds away very neatly and actually looks nice in the garden even if it’s only a washing line. It comes with a 5 year guarantee once you register the product online. You have to type the barcode number in - will be on the box.Hopefully it lasts a long time.

As has been stated by other reviewers, this item is moderately fragile. The alloy is quite thin, and does not instill confidence in it's tensile strength. However, that being said, if this is used with care it works just fine. It took me about 20 minutes to install it on the wall, including finding an 8mm drill bit and it feels quite solid once mounted. There are four rubber gromits that fit on the back of this to cushion it against the wall, and I suppose to give it some cushioning from vibration in the wind. This also has the benefit of reducing vibration noise against the wall. The screws are adequate and fit the unit well enough with the supplied washers. You do need to use a reasonable amount of strength to pull this from the wall until the catch clicks into place, and of course as has been mentioned here - to lift it away from the wall to disengage the catch before folding it away. It is best to do this with a bit of caution, simply because the frame is not very solid, so is fairly easy to bend or buckle. There is no template for mounting this, which I think is something the company should supply. It's all well and good giving us the measurements on the sheet in small print with a small diagram of the mounting plate. I mean, how much extra cost is it to put in a paper template? It would save time and trouble for the customer. For myself I made my own template from the back place, rather than dismantling the thing or fiddling with the assembled unit to mark the holes. There is no fixed height to mount this unit, it is advised to mount it at a comfortable height, so the top of the mounting plate is slightly above the head of the person using it. When you see how it works, this makes a lot of sense. Once I showed my wife how this unit works, and how to release the catch again, she has been using this comfortably. We're both getting a lot of use out of this as the main rotary dryer is out the back of the property in the middle of the grass, this one is mounted closer to the back door at the end of the patio. It's easier to get to when the weather is questionable, and as it folds away neatly it doesn't interfere when we are sitting out there or entertaining.Once this is pulled out and locked, it is quite large and will take a fair amount of washing. For us this means that the larger household items can go on the bigger rotary dryer, and smalls, underoos, t-shirts and other washing can go on this thing. It does mean we get more washing done in a day which is a bonus in some ways and a bane in others (more ironing for instance...)This answered a need for us, and allows us to hang washing out on days when the weather is less than perfect, and dash out to grab it quick if there's rain, without a long sprint down the garden and a wet trudge back carrying a heavy load. I suspect that because of it's convenience it is going to get more use than the larger rotary dryer.Great idea, well made and finished. Some care needs to be taken when fitting and using this item because of the way it is constructed, but overall this is a very nice unit that has made our lives that little bit easier. As it folds away neatly into it's own housing - either the alloy box or the provided rain cover which clips to the sides and sits tight on the top cap and bottom of the legs, it is unobtrusive and tidies away neatly.

I feel slightly embarrassed to admit that since buying this washing line and cover I have almost come to look forward to the laundry chores. True it might seem expensive for a washing line but it has almost certainly paid for itself in terms of how little I now use the tumble dryer as a result (not to mention the saving on the number of clothes I would frequently transform to doll's size in the dryer!) I am lucky enough to have a separate utility room large enough to accommodate this washing line in its open position. This product is extremely discrete and stylish when folded back against the wall and adds a contemporary addition to the room.We were considering having a tall wall cupboard fitted to hide the ugly clothes airers that I would have constantly hanging around and if you take into account the saving by having this simple product on the wall instead then you can see why I am so pleased. The product was quick and simple to hang, although it was done by a friendly carpenter. I should add that if you are going to hang it inside then the wall it is fixed to probably needs to be very solid. The wall I have used is solid brick and not plasterboard, as I not sure whether the latter would properly support the weight of the line loaded with wet clothes. It is very easy to pull the line out and put it back together again. On taking it out you simply need to give a gentle but sharp push downwards until it clicks into place. When folding back up again you need to push the black handle with a sharp and gentle upwards motion before folding it all back neatly together. The stainless steel surface of the cover can show finger marks but these wipe off. The line takes at least two full washing machine loads plus endless shirts hung in all sorts of places. Even if you don't have an obvious place to put one of these you might even consider a bedroom because they are so easy to put up and down and look so attractive on the wall.

We bought one of these about 5 years ago and having recently moved house we decided to get a new one.Arriving in a long heavy box you get the line which is pre-assembled plus all of the fixings, a basic instruction sheet and the fabric cover. These are straight forward to install and I've found it best to install into brick though that does take longer as the holes required are quite deep. This time around I must have hit the toughest brick in the world so be prepared for that.I install the bottom fixings first and then the top and tighten everything up ensuring that the rubber washers are firmly up against the wall. A spirit level is essential when installing to make sure this is perfectly aligned.A quick test and shake just to make sure it's good to go then put on the blanking plates it's finished. These can hold a good couples of washes of mixed items and they hold an amazing amount of weight without sagging. Easy to fold and unfold, not sure how people are bending them you just don't need to be that forceful with them.Overall we love these, perfect for a small or large garden when you just don't want a washing line out all of the time. Folded up with the cover on they look nice and tidy. One final tip to take away from this review, I did this again on this installation as well on the previous one. One of the panels on the box contains a template for drilling holes, I made my own, but I didn't notice until I was about to throw the box away but I think Brabantia should include this in the box rather than having it in a less obvious place on the fold of the box!If you have found this review helpful, please let me know by hitting the “helpful” button! or if you have any questions then feel free to ask :)

Brabantia is the name associated with quality , If they intend trying to retain the market then I advise they start using quality materials . great concept very expensive product for such poor quality parts plastic fittings poor and the alignment stainless steel cabinet is so thin it barely holds its own shape so much so that closing the lock is a feat , keeping it closed in lightest of winds is impossible. I have rated it 4* for line only cabinet is really not worth the price it needs a longer backing plate to retain the cabinet firmly to the wall in order to support the poor quality stainless steel but hay ho I'm only a woman .As for the washing line very easy to attach to the wall templateis part of cardboard box it is sent in you cut it out hold in place against wall at height comfortable for you mark the 4 holes through cardboard template drill holes and screw to wall done , pull handle to slide out line to hang washing , To close lift and push to release , word of warning don't just push back without liftup as it will break ,mechanism is very easy release coming from a lady who has mobility problems . Overall I personally love it space saving just make sure you have enough room each side for when line is opened up umbrella effect , Price is it worth it ? No Cost of Cabinet vs Quality Poor my brabantia bread bin has thicker steel guess its a sign of times

We have recently had our garden done and I didn't want to have a rotary drier in the middle of the new lawn and we no longer have anywhere to put up a traditional line. I discovered these static rotary-style driers that fit to the side of the house and then did a lot of research regarding the quality, type of line additional features, benefits of a single cord and length of cord available. Whilst there are cheaper driers, in my opinion there isn't a better one.I have managed to fit TWO full loads of washing on this rack and I'm still finding better ways to utilise the space - I now hang one of those multi-peg thingies for socks from the lowest point and it's taken me a while to remember thatI can hang hangers from the corners! As you can see in the pictures I have the version with the metal case, which was a bit of a challenge to fit as we have an old bungalow with a ridge tile half way up the wall AND we have dreadful pebble-dash! But my brother in law bought some deep washers and longer screws so that it would stand away from the wall enough. So I absolutely love it! I love that it's neatly tucked away when I don't need it, I love that it's long enough to take plenty of washing, it really is simple to lift out-up-click into place to use and equally simple to lift up-down and tie into the case. Well worth the money. Highly recommend this.

You know the scenario if you live in a modern house, there's no real place to string a washing line, so you end up buying a whirly line that sticks in a hole in the ground. During the honeymoon period it all works and then a gust of wind sends your perfectly placed whirly line askew, and from then on it's a losing battle.I bought this wall mounted dryer to avoid the above problems that have plagued my current installation for years, it got to the point that the washing was on the ground more than on the line.Anyway, this product fits to the wall with a sturdy bracket, and four large bolts. You will need a decent drill and bit to get this on the wall firmly, and I found that I had to mark and drill the top two holes, fix the bracket to the wall, then mark the bottom two holes, remote bracket, drill, and repeat bracket installation, but apart from that fiddly experience of not being able to see the bottom holes that well the install was fine.Once on the wall you basicall pull the unit out and it extends into a decent sized line that can hold a fair amount of clothing, when your finished you release the catch and it folds perfectly back into place and takes up no standing room in your garden. It comes with a cover to hide it away when not in use and to protect it from the ravages of the british weather. So far it's a really good product.

Lot of thought after reading negative reviews but can only think something gone sadly wrong elsewhere. A breeze to fit ....take care marking holes for fixings as not even but fitted to stone wall easily USING THE PROVIDED TEMPLATE, packed behind with home made washers cut from plastic milk bottles so it sat level on wall with no movement. Good quality fittings bolts supplied. Needs an 8mm drill. You need a space at least 2.5 metres square. Item 184cm from wall and 182cm wide and 350mm clearance above. So 2.5 square about the minimum to move freely.Up in less than an hour. Consider location carefully as in our garden moving 12" to left ensured it avoided a shadow.Looks neat when out and gives free space below for our dogs to wander by. Looks better for loss of the old lines and when closed hardly noticeable in its cover (supplied) once you get used to it. The Stainless box a bit OTT for us.Can see how an arm could be strained if miss fitted or a child pulls on it so again height needs consideration. Says at "Your" working height on instructions. Tales of bent arms think must be unlucky so keep the receipts just in case.In general our courtyard looks so much better with no obstacles.EDIT 24/Sept. Plastic drip cover that slots on top was cracked Brabantia sent one straight away when noted on registration.

This is a terrific product. It's a simple and idea, original in design and from a good brand. It's pretty easy to install however please ensure that the rawplugs, or equivalent, are a very tight fit as the pressure exerted when opening this product out requires it to be anchored extremely securely.I'll get back to this in a minute.I've had this a couple of years and it does the job very well and the supplied cover (when product retracted) is quite attractive and protects it against rain, wind and sunshine!Overall very happy and it really does cope with a considerable amount (volume) of washing i.e. it's remarkably strong and there's plenty of "line space".It's premium priced, for what it is,but there are deals to be had and Amazon pricing is very competitive.Getting back to its fixing, and its operating mechanics, I did experience some issues and recently trying to opening the product proved quite difficult so much so that the whole thing came off the wall and I couldn't open it!There was a minor glitch in the opening and closing mechanism which caused this problem which had got progressively worse over a period of time.To be fair to Brabantia they honoured their 5 Year Guarantee without much hassle.Overall a great product and more importantly a brand that backs up its Guarantee promises!

I badly needed to find a way of hanging my large double sheets without them draping on the ground. I purchased this to fix on a side wall of my garage (indoors - this is Britain after all) It was very easy and quick to fit using the template provided though you will need a drill. The fixed construction opens out in a click-clack movement creating a multi-sided spider web-like washing line which is sturdy and solid. It easily takes two full washing machine loads and is easy to access from all angles if you take care to position it where there is space. As it is completely clear from the ground, I sometimes pull an oil radiator under the washing line to speed up the drying process as I couldnever get two washloads in the drier. The best thing is that once the washing has been collected you just push the construction back onto the wall where is sits like a neat vertical arm. It comes with a high quality nylon cover that clips on with giant press studs which tuck in the washing lines and make it look very neat and compact. You could really put this anywhere with a bit of space - conservatory, bathroom... although ideally they are meant, I think, to go on a sunny outside wall. However you choose to use it - brilliant product.

As a family of 4 living in London, drying laundry is a challenge, small garden, small house. It would cost us £50 each month to have a laundrette wash and dry just the excess laundry we couldn't fit around the house to dry, and that's purely down to us having a lack of drying space.Stumbled across this product by accident, read the reviews and decided to purchased in advance some Molly piranha black and decker wall plugs to swap out the poor quality Brabantia plugs. Definitely a smart move, made installation easier.Opened the device up to ensure it fit the small space on the wall first and thankfully it fit the space, and that's with pipes and boiler outlet sticking out around it.Its triangular shape conveniently pushes away from the pipes on the wall. The line itself took about 2 and a quarter loads of laundry. First segment of the inner line can fit a 2to4 year old sized t shirt, and by the time you reach a segment of the outer line it can fit a single duvet cover. We haven't actually closed it up into its pouch yet as we are getting such good use out of it, but it does fold up compact, and we will close it up in the winter months. It's saved us £600 a year in laundrette bills so we are absolutely delighted.

This dryer is fantastic! Well made and sturdy. Easy to fix to external wall - just drilled four holes using template enclosed and used screws/fixings provided. Extremely compact when folded away - which is easy to do - and very spacious when open. Definitely the best airer I have ever had, it beats walking up and down the garden pegging up a long line of washing, it beats a rotary airer and getting bashed on the head when it catches the wind unexpectedly, it beats a clothes horse which collapses or gets blown away. It is quite simply the best! The cover is a very snug fit, slightly elasticated and just pulls over the collapsed airer. Some reviews mention not being able to hang large items like sheets, but I've not had any trouble, even with king-size duvet covers.I had looked at this airer on several sites before finally purchasing with Amazon and their price was around £30 cheaper, so a very good bargain for an excellent product. Delivery was prompt and hassle free - as has always been my experience with Amazon. Now I look forward to hanging out the washing! How sad!!! I would thoroughly recommend this product as a good buy.

Moving house was the ideal excuse to purchase this product. I like the freshness from drying outside but as the weather got windy just popping the clothes horse outside meant smalls being blown round the garden. Also, I don't like the look of a rotary in the garden making the wall fix ideal. It's just there for when you need it but neatly tucked away in its cover (though it does look a bit like a giant slug on the wall!) meaning the line doesn't get dirty and it takes about 30 seconds to get going. We found it a bit of a fiddle to put up as one of us had to hold the dryer while the other screwed it into place but the first load is out now and there is plenty of room had I done a second wash.Unlike a rotary, you can't just spin the dryer to move to the next section to peg stuff out but it's not a big deal and no more fiddly than using the clothes horse. As you'd expect with a brand such as Brabantia, the product is well designed and thought through - the cover even has poppers to snap onto the side of the mounting to keep it really secure. It's those little details that tell you so much about the quality.

My son mentioned this type of rotary styled line so after some further research I purchased the Brabantia WallFix Wall Mounted Retractable Washing Line with Fabric Cover which came complete with fittings and am SO pleased with it! The unit came promptly and looks really neat on the wall in my garden. The fabric cover looks well made and stretches around the closed line with two poppers to secure it so should keep it somewhat protected from the elements! When the cover is removed, it is easy to open the line with one hand although takes a couple of goes to get used to gently pushing up enough for it to lock in and holding firmly when closing so it goes back smoothly. The spring action is quite strong although will probably loosen up a little with use.Once open, the washing line certainly managed a small load without a hitch. Will see how it gets on with a larger load, but it looks pretty sturdy and capable of holding a large load or two depending on the item weight! It is very easy to use, sits neatly against the wall and saves so much space in the garden when not in use! Very pleased!

Following our house extension and new patio, a casualty of the build was losing our long garden clothes line. Ideally, we wanted something that we could use on the patio, but we didn’t want this to be a permanent, ahem…“feature”! I came across the WallFix unit whilst looking for another recommended product, which was not suitable. The WallFix reviews were nearly all 5*, and it looked great and so we purchased this together with the Stainless Steel cover (also reviewed on Amazon). Well, the WallFix IS excellent; it’s smart and discrete when it’s folded, very practical in use as it actually has more useable line than our old garden line, is a really clever design but is also easy to open and close,is pretty simple to install (yes, you will need an electric drill and an 8mm masonry drill) and is fabulously well-made, so it ticked all the boxes and is exactly what we wanted. Yes, it’s expensive for a washing line, but it looks great together with the waterproof Stainless Steel cover and with this protecting the lines and hardware in the winter, it looks like it’ll last a very long time.
