This is a very well designed piece of kitchen equipment. It offers four different inserts all with high quality and very sharp bladed surfaces. The idea is that you put one in place to use whilst the other three fit into slotted miniature shelves within the body of the grater so there will not get lost and are always ready for use. The four inserts are for slicing, zesting, rasping and chopping which means they can be used for anything from onions and carrots to cheese and citrus fruit.Once in place they are used in association with the fingerguard-the food is always kept beneath this deep sturdy knob-like handle ensuring that there is no risk of injury-crucial as these are really sharp blades.Apropos of this under no circumstances allow young children near the blades. It is also very handy to be able to adjust the height of the inserts to allow for a thinner or thicker cut. We have found this excellent for grating cheese for pasta, cucumber for salads and oranges when you want zest for cakes etc. However, it could be used on literally hundreds of other foodstuffs and is especially good if you want food to be presented nicely and need consistency of thickness,Cleaning is simple, but again requires care. The attention to detail extends to the inclusion of a hook-like handle so it can be hung on a peg in the kitchen. Well made and with a 3 year guarantee this is very recommendable for its functionality and thoughtful design.

This is a really useful, multi-function grater/slicer but like many products has its pros and cons.Pros:1. There are a number of attachments, which make this really versatile, whether you want to zest a lime or slice onions or potatoes or grate carrots or slice cucumber - you can use this grater2. The different blades are inter-changeable and the spare blades can be stored in the side of the grater itself.3. There is a gadget which saves you from accidentally slicing or grating your fingers - which with blades as sharp as these is a must!4. if you have a lot to slice, this is definitely quicker for me than a knifeCons:1.The area over which you can grate is relatively small - much smaller than a standard sized grater - I wouldn't bother using this for grating cheese, it would take too long for my liking!2. The slices you can get from this can be varied in size, but you can't get a thick slice with this really - even the thickest slice is still quite thin.3. It is less stable than a four-sided, stand-alone grater.

This is a good grater and slicer that is really easy to use. There are a good number of blade options which look a bit scary at first but they are really easy to change and use. It is very versatile. The blades are sharp, so be careful when handling and cleaning, although when in use your fingers and hands are protected by the plastic guard. I found the slices a bit too thin for potatoes but it is good for slicing and grating carrots, onions and of course it can handle blocks of cheese. I like how all of it is stored neatly within the grater, so you don't have loose blades lying around, although it might have been nice to have a bowl that could catch the gratings. However,i do like the indents that make it relatively easy to hook over a bowl. Overall it is a good grater and does exactly what you would expect. It is robust, feels well and will last a while. The last thing you want is a cheap, plasticky grater falling apart in your hands but I don't think that will happen with this one.

This is a very well thought-out product that not only functions brilliantly, but is also easy to pack away after use and to store. A really nifty item for the kitchen. The grater comes in a number of parts - there's the main flat part with a holder for the food you want to grate - you must put food in the holder and use this to move the food over and back across the blade. The blade is too sharp not to take the precaution of using the holder! There are 4 different grating plates that can be slotted into place, depending on the food that you're grating and how small you want to grate it. The blades that are not in use can be neatly slotted back into storage spaces on the product itself. After use,you can hang the grater - there's a chunky handle for this - or just put it away. It's fantastic and a really useful addition to any kitchen.

I have a much older, larger mandolin - this Leifheit model is much lighter and in many ways easier to use.The V slicer was wonderful for cucumber. The tomato I used was on the soft side and the results were acceptable & I am sure that they would have been good with a firmer tomato.Carrots came out good with the 2 slicers and all 3 graters.Cheddar cheese on all 3 graters was good.I shredded an Iceberg lettuce with the V slicers.I would have liked to have tried out some white cabbage as I make coleslaw a lot - however I did not have any but seeing the other results I think it will be just fine.CAUTION of course is needed as the blades are very sharp.YOU MUST USE THE FINGER GUARD with the blades.(youwill get some wastage but better to be safe). All the different blades & graters fit together with the body which is very useful.

First of all, this is really easy to use and dismantle, and all the parts go in the dishwasher, which is perfect for keeping the fiddly blades clean. All the graters and cutters - the coarse and fine graters, the separate potato grater, the adjustable slicer and the tomato slicer - are all super-sharp and fit perfectly in the grater. I never knew that you could get a separate potato grater, but you can, and it's brilliant for grating potatoes for use as crunchy toppings to shepherd's pies or for potato rosti. The tomato slicer is especially good, and works even with very ripe tomatoes. The in-built storage means that the blades store safely and neatly and the grater fits nicely in the kitchen drawer, perfect if you are short on space.

I need to edit my review of this product:After some time due to regular use, the mandolin blade became dull and wouldn't slice thinly any more. I now use the OXO mandolin, which is excellent and is safe to use with the protective block. I still use the grater of the Leifheit gadget.Original review:I was looking for a cutter that would slice cucumber etc very thinly. I also didn't want anything expensive. This cutter is ideal being safe to use and cuts much thinner than I could with a knife. It has attachments for grating which fit neatly in the body of the cutter. The whole thing is easy to assemble and dishwasher safe. It's also flat enough that it takes very little cupboard space.Another good quality product from Leifheit.

This grater is excellent for slicing onions, in the past I have had to peel (tears in my eyes) then cut in half (tears again in my eyes) then finely slice them (more tears so my eyes look dreadful and my nose runs - very hygienic!). Now the worst part is much easier, so after peeling and cutting and placing the onions flat side down it is easy to just pick up the rounded part with the grater holder and slice away AND NO TEARS FOR THIS STAGE.I have tried using it to slice tomatoes and cucumber but to be honest it is easier to do this with a knife. Don't attempt to grate cheese as it is too sticky,an ordinary grater does the trick better.I have given a 5 star rating because of the ease of slicing onions.

GRATER=======This is a great grater that grates really well. It reminds me of those products that you see advertised on TV. As it slices too.THE CHEESE===========An excellent cheese grater and slicer.GRATING========It's very good. I tried to grate a piece of dry parmesan cheese, soft cheese or gruyère cheese and walnuts and had no problems.I did a little grating of dark chocolate for the top of a tiramisu too. (that rhymes! tiramisu too)IN THE HAND===========Feels solid and good in the hand, although it's a little wide compared to the thinner.DISHWASHER============Yes, it was fine.OVERALL========It's a well made grater, that's currently my favourite.

These things always look so much more useful / easy to use on paper than they are in practice!Yes, it is a useful kitchen implement. With its 5 different slicing / grating / shredding / zesting inserts you can chop your vegetables & fruit up into an impressive array of different shapes and sizes. However, it is vital that you use the little device that holds the vegetable and protects your fingers from the cutting edge. And herein lies the problem. The vegetables fall off, or get squashed, and need re-positioning. And there’s always a fair chunk left that you can’t grate/slice.However, once you accept its limitations, it does work exceedingly well.

I was doing an extensive search on mandolin graters, as I was looking for one with variety of blades that wouldn't break my bank account!I simply love it now, the blades are sharp (to the point I needed bandages couple of times, but that's because of my skill not faulty design!) and the grater does exactly what I expected it to! I later found out that my mum also has Leifheit's grater (mine is upgraded design, proof that the company is still working to improve their products) for many years now and she's still happy with it.

The grater comes with several attachments from which you can select one to cut your item. I found it mainly useful for vegetables, the cutting area is too small for cheese. You can repeatedly slide the blade over the vegetable you are slicing and it gives quite even slices. The grater is quite large but it can accommodate the blades within itself. I’d recommend it if you are regularly slicing salads or vegetables and want something quick, simple and reliable.

THis is an excellent grater and very easy to use / efficient - I reccomend it wholeheatedly. The gizmo that holds the items that you are grating or slicing keeps your fingers protected so no more crunchy bits in the cheese! The blades allow for slicing and Grating depending on which one you select, there is even an adjustable blade for things like cucumber that you can vary the thickness of the slices - excellent detail.Go on buy one - their Grate!

This is an excellent slicer/grater with a choice of several different blades. My main complaint and why it only gets 4 stars not 5 is the lack of instructions. I had to go on YouTube to find a demonstration of how to use it.Once you have watched YouTube it is easy to change the blades and use the slicer/grater.Using the slicer attachment you can vary the width of slices from paperthin to a few millimetres. Great for cucumber sandwiches!

It's great for everything but cheese. Whether it's a thick shred or a finer grate or slices, this is a safe and quick way to get it done. It hooks over most bowls so you can collect what you produce, and the handle piece protects your hands. The only real trouble is that it only gets a grip on shapes you can get the metal prongs into - slightly convex. With a lump of cheese, you can't get enough purchaseand so have to do without the handle.
