This is a rock solid piece of engineering. I like the feel of the wooden handle. I do not like metal handles as you need oven gloves to use them. At first, I found everything stuck to the surface. It was useless. I flung it in a corner of the cupboard and regarded it as an expensive, slightly embarrassing mistake. By accident, I found a review of the pan with the same basic comment. A suggestion was made to half fill the pan with oil, heat the oil till it was smoking and then let the pan cool for as long as possible, at least overnight. I had nothing to lose so I tried this. I poured away the oil the next day and tried to fry bacon. Perfect bacon. I then fried an egg.I could push the egg around the pan and even flip it over. Impossible before I did the thing with the oil. Now I use it for everything. It is still not non-stick in the teflon sense. I have always had a problem with teflon pans as eventually, the teflon flakes off and it gets into the food. Also, I find that the pan surface gets very hot even on low heat. My halogen cooker rings go up to ten but I never set them above four with this pan. The longer I use it, the more non-stick it becomes. I bet there are many of these frying pans at the back of many cupboards unused because the instructions do not explain how to "season" the pan to prepare it for normal use. Even better, why do Le Creuset not season the pan before they sell them?

I love my Le Creuset pans and dishes and this frying pan was a considered purchase as I was getting fed up with cheaper, non stick jobbies unwilling to form a reliable working partnership with my Rayburn hob. Reasons mostly that their bases were not flat so food cooked unevenly. This pan arrived today and I gave it the seasoning treatment I have used in the past to good effect. Brilliant result. Modern bacon, unless you actually see it being sliced as in the old days from the grocer, sticks like the proverbial to the proverbial so thought it would be a good thing to try some in the new pan. Lovely! no sticking even though there was some usual residue left on the pan; however,I have a dish brush which has never been used with washing up liquid, so swished this around the pan with just warm water and it all came off a lot easier than from non stick pans in the past that have been soaked for ages. So, we know you get what you pay for and the cost looks a lot, but something is only expensive , no matter the cost, if it doesn't work as it should.In recommending this to others I would just point out that if for any reason the pan does get washed up in the normal manner, with WUL, you have to go through the whole seasoning treatment again, but the results are so worthwhile it's a small chore to do.

Before you buy this large cast iron pan be aware iron is heavy.It is not non stick it is enamel.This means it will stick until you season it and build a patina.Do not put in the dishwasher, this will remove the patina. It will also cause the bar in the handle to react with the iron.Do not cool under a cold tap it will crack, do not heat on full it may crack.Do not over heat, steaks do not need to be so hot the enamel fails.Do not put in the oven to season unless you remove the handle.This should last decades with just basic care and proper usage.To season it, heat it up very hot with salt sprinkled in it then once it's cooled wipe it with cooking oil.Buy a non stick for scallops etc and usethis for pork sliders etc.

I bought this because my 23 cm "non-stick" cast-iron pan was beginning to fail (rust spots showing through the non-stick) and had failed me when trying to cook a DIMy Rosti. OK - the old pan was some 10 years old; Le Creuset only guarantee their non-stick for that length of time and they no longer seem to offer the same size of pan. This was not the answer; it's a perfectly good pan for most purposes but it won't cook a Rosti; have to use my 20cm non-stick pan and then it's too thick ...With the toughened glass lid it's super for all sorts of other things, but note that the lid makes nasty creaking noises as it heats up.

I’ve been through many many frying pans that just don’t hold up, and wasted lots of money. This pan retains heat wonderfully, so browns meat perfectly. With regular use and proper cleaning (water only, no soap) the pan develops a non stick coating. When cooking make sure pan is properly up to heat eg 10 mins on medium heat to heat ENTIRE pan up to temp.Feels Indestructible and like it will last a lifetime and looks perfect. Just allow the patina to build up and don’t expect the cooking surface to look perfectly clean. If used and treated properly it should not. Every time you cook on it it gets better

Got a lot of Le creuset stuff very good, yes they r expensive but they r quality I have cups pots pans egg cups and this frying pan. What u need to remember with the cast iron stuff u need to season them. This is where u need to let a natural layer coating build up. Can’t really explain it but over a few weeks it becomes none stick. At first it terrible everything sticks. If u r not familiar with the process u would think it rubbish. But it’s not u have to allow what the call seasoning then magic. It’s a very heavy pan. Not for use for my 80 year old mother. But for me yes wold highly recommended.

Got it in a sale and wow best pan I probably have ever bought. Use it all the time. My daughter also now uses it for everything so big battles in a small kitchen. Cooking with this superb cast iron takes trial and error but once you learn to temper and control the heat it is simply superb. Really wide diameter so perfect for flat fish like the John Dory I recently cooked. Can also do an entire fry up in one pan. Trick is to take it off the heat for residual heat to cook things like eggs. It is superb easy to clean but very heavy for anyone with a disability. It is wonderful basically.

This pan looks really good, the handle is wooden so doesn't get hot, the pan is made of non toxic materials so I don't need to worry about chemicals and the pan getting scratched, its easy to clean, hangs up out of the way and is built to last a long time so worth the extra money; I'm very pleased with it.

Simply the best frying pan available but I would recommend the pan with the composit handle, the wood can burn! I have had both. My son has just left home and the first thing on his/ my shopping list was a Le Creuset fry pan. Need l say more, just season it!

I just christened mine with a fry up. I’ve read the previous reviews and I am wondering why people encounter problems. Read the guide, cook with patience. Enjoy!This really is the best pan I ever bought. Mind you, I am waiting to do a “Full English”....

I managed to get this pan in an Amazon Warehouse deal, I'm very happy with it. If you know what you're doing this pan is great but some people may want to stick to low-maintenance teflon

Works great but remember do not overheat...cast iron takes a while to get hot...KEEP YOUR GAS LOW!DO NOT wash in soapy water...takes off the patina that keeps a pan non stick...dl

Love it! This is about my 8th Le Creuset pan and it is by favourite! It is a cast iron skillet, so it isn't as easy to clean than a plastic coated one, but obviously healthier.
