Previously had a mandolin 'system' but it was too cumbersome, this however easily fits stacked away. The blade is predictably sharp (thus an obligatory mention to mind your fingers, and better yet buy cut-resistant gloves.) The purchase was in part a curiosity thing, however I have no regrets and have easily incorporated it into my kitchen. For most things, as expected I use the chef knife, however the mandolin comes in handy for repetative slicing of veg (e.g. potatoes), fruit (especially for a G&T), and even chorizo. The tool is lightweight, comes with a plastic cutting guard to hold the fruit or veg. I find that handy, but iinevitably you'll put it aside in favour of just using your hands for speed and dexterity...then you'll lose concentration and forget just how efficient the device is...that's where the cut-proof gloves come in handy. There are 4 levels of cut thickness, in my experience the 3rd and 4th (largest) are the only real usable ones. However, there is probably some fruit or vegetable that the thinnest cuts were crafted for, with those in mind.At around 20 quid, this is worth it. After a couple of get togethers where the G&T's are flowing, you'll believe that it paid for itself. However, you'll find it useful for so much more.

This is by far the best Mandolins out there. It is handheld, super sharp and just superb. We even managed to break one already but were so impressed with it regardless that we went and got the OXO one but didn't like it as much so ended up getting another one of these Kyocera ones.It is fast and very simple to use. I do find the hand protector thing a bit fiddly to use so don't use that bit so much...to the detriment of one of my fingers! But even with this as an issue, I still can't recommend it enough. In fact, going to be getting it for my Father in Law who has a wrist problem at the moment.I have used this to chop stuff for salads, to blanch super thin onions,it is a wonder on fennel...it really makes you add more stuff to salads because it cuts the chopping times that it doesn't feel like such a chore to create lots of dishes. The adjustable width for chopping is fantastic too.So all in all, an excellent buy.

Some mixed reviews on this produce of which some are downright missleading. EG. Dangerous as it does not have a safe directional holder fot the last slices-YES IT DOES, the nylon holder provided has two ridges which slide beautifully along the body of the slicer.I regularly use it when I am getting down to the last few slices on the sweet potatoe that I am slicing, and I regularly get down to the last slice with no prob. And I do a lot of sweet potatoes 8 at a time to make the nices chrisps you ever tasted and without any rubbish addatives, in my dehydrator.Find a plastic box to place the slicer accross- the Morrisons klip and lock 1Ltr food storer is perfect, the slicer latches on to it and is very stable-Slice away!!!.Yes and take the basic sensible precations when using it and dont use it as a cricket bat.DavidSorry for any spelling errors, never my strong point!

I like this mandolin. The ceramic blade is sharp and it does a good job. The #4 thickness isn't super thick but it makes great things like cucumber and carrot slices. The blade guard is almost useless, so I highly recommend the purchase of Nuovoware Cut Resistant Gloves (or similar product). Without those gloves I would have lost a finger tip in the first 20 seconds of using this mandolin. It is super sharp.

I wanted a little mandolin I could use for slicing tomatoes/cucumber for salads/sandwiches and this one fits the bill perfectly. The fact that the top part of the mandolin "flaps about" worried me at first (it does this as the mechanism underneath raises and lowers it to adjust the thickness of the slices) but I've got used to it. It certainly doesn't feel unstable or fragile.Highly recommended!

Received this and tried to slice a tomato - complete failure! Initial impression therefore was of a somewhat flimsy plastic device unsuitable for purpose. Then I read that it was not suitable for tomatoes and so I tried it on harder potatoes and cucumber where it provided excellent results! Now pleased with the product - blade is very sharp. Plastic is very flexible but it doesn't seem to matter.

I already own one which I bought a few years ago and you know what it still slices everything like it was bought just yesterday. I think this is the advantage of ceramic blades they are brittle but if you look after them and not drop them they will last really long time keeping original sharpness. The second I bought was for my mum and she is really impressed with it.

The ceramic blade on the Kyocera slicer is fantastically sharp but the plastic holder/hand guard is slightly fiddly. This lead me to attempt slicing a potatoe holding it only with my fingers, not recommended! Great slicer but if you want to avoid bloodshed use the holder thingy. Delivery was a disappointment, estimated delivery 17th December, actual delivery 5th Jan.

This is the second mandolin of this make and model that I own. The first one broke at the handle after about 5 years of use and that's the only thing that was wrong with it the whole time. The blade is terrifically sharp and NEVER dulls. I like that it sits flat in a drawer and is compact enough (and requires no setup) that I never hesitate to use it.

Excellent slicer and it is super sharp - so use the hand protector thing. Only giving it 4 stars as it could be slightly more sturdy. It bends a bit if you use too much pressure. But maybe that's just me being a bit heavy handed...The adjustable slicing thickness mechanism works very well. Definitely recommend one.

This is a very simple , easy to use mandolin slicer. It is ideal for slicing cucumber. There are bigger, more expensive ones on the market but this one is simple, does the job really well and in my opinion, is better than the bigger ones as its so straightforward.Definitely recommended.

This is going to be a Christmas gift for my granddaughter. I have a similar one and it works perfectly. I am excited that my granddaughter will have a safety guard when she slices the cucumbers. I don't have one on mine. The blade also adjusts to different thicknesses. Sounds wonderful.

I got this to slice up sweet potato only used it once so far no issues the potato slides thru it very easily I got some gloves but havent used them yet as the guard has some really good teeth in it as well and was easily able to dig into the potato when it was low enough to need it.

Bought this to cut fruits and veggies for dehydrating and it works perfectly. The safety guard protects your fingers and grips the food well. Ceramic blade cuts through food like butter. Slimline so it's easy to store in a drawer.
