I've played every single Killzone to date and while they keep getting better each and every time they always seem to come up short is some area, it's as if they create a self inflicted glass ceiling that never gets broken.Killzone: Shadow Fall is a PS4 launch game and the first game i bought along with my PS4 and essentially for the most part it doesn't disappoint. Graphics are as gorgeous and beautiful as you can ever hope to get (think Crysis 2 and 3 campaigns only better with even more detail). The campaign is set in more open areas rather than the built up areas you found in past outings and the game instantly benefits from it, certainly the forest parts are a joy to roam around and previously unseen in killzone games.Again you fight the Helghan armies for survival but this time it feels faster paced and more in tune with what gamers want, it feels if anything like a distant relative of Halo (still at the other end of the spectrum but you can tell they've attempted to model it on halo style of play). As good as the story is and indeed as EPIC as the graphics look and game-play feels you still feel as if something is lacking, which isn't helped by the endless waves of enemies you get to fight during the campaign just to progress to the next area, half the time it doesn't serve a purpose other than to lengthen the story, this coupled with stupid checkpoints (in my opinion), that often occur after a boss fight/sequence and not before meaning if you fail you have to start again from where you were 10 minutes ago only to get to the main fight and be killed yet again. In the campaign as with online multiplayer you get "OWL" a robot that has a few different features including putting a shield up, stunning enemies or even deactivating alarms and it's operated using the touch-pad on the controller, personally i think it works well and shows a certain level of innovation by the developers. The campaign is well put together and looks beautiful (certainly a showcase of what the PS4 is capable of) but by and large i still find it boring next to other games despite the inclusion of new innovative features like the OWL robot i mentioned and some glorious weapons. One of my main bugs regarding the campaign is the AI which completely lack any intelligence, enemy AI on harder difficulty are unreally accurate and you will die many times over.Online is a different kettle of fish however, you get 10 maps with the game as standard although i'm sure more with come out with a DLC over time. There are a large variety of game modes to play and the weapon customization, loadouts and indeed skill tree available is vastly impressive and certainly puts past killzone games to shame. You now get Challenges to aim for to level up rather than the traditional XP system and personally i like it simply as it's different. Customizing game modes such as warzone is fantastic too and you can challenge your friends to see how long they last with just one weapon and no respawns, believe me it create an intense atmosphere although regular game modes like team death-match is available if you like. If anything the only real downside online is there are fewer classes to choose from compared to Killzone 2 and 3, sadly collecting ribbons and badges have gone too.PROS: The campaign looks Beautiful * Best storyline yet * more fluid gameplay which is fast paced * weapons are phenomenal * lots of modes online and the maps are stunning * playing with friends online is more fun than other First Person Shooters * more content on offer compared to some other gamesCONS: The Storyline may be better but i still find it dull by comparison to many other games and it certainly lacks something special * Like many games these days the AI in this are completely retarded to the point that i don't know why the put them in * Some enemy wave sections during the campaign never seem to end and become repetitive * checkpoints need re-positioningVERDICT: Definitely the best Killzone to date and it looks fantastic. Gameplay is drastically improved and online is lots of fun so despite the problems i name i'm going to Recommend this especially if you have friends to play with online. If you liked past Killzone outings then you are bound to love this, if the new game-play doesn't grab you then the graphics will WOW you!RECOMMENDED!!!

Killzone Shadow Fall is a very good game. Great in fact.I've played the last two Kilzone games and I personally think that this is the best of the three.Gameplay:The gameplay is a bit clunky just like the last two. You get used to it after a little while which is fine. The difficulty is not too bad on normal difficulties and actually quite challenging on Hard. The OWL Drone that you get with you for the majority of the game is kind of just there. It can be useful if you use it to its full potential but I didn't much care for it. I mainly used guns unless the game needed me to use the OWL. It's also quite weak. What really bugged me was the fact that the mode selections for the OWL are constantly on screen. The touch pad is used to select them and they are always lingering unless you aim. It constantly annoyed me.Story:The story takes off some time after the third game where the Helghast are living on the protagonists home planet, Vectan. I personally thought the ending to Killzone 3 was absolutely naff. I thought it was a bit silly that the Vectans would let they're sworn enemies live on their planet. I'd rather not to be blatantly honest. You play as a Shadow Marshal. Basically future Spec Ops. There's a decent story in there but there's a couple of bits that are just stupid. Over all I thought it was ok but with a disappointing ending. I hope they make another one. There were a few areas where the action slowed right down which didn't work. The game needed to stay a shooter.Graphics:The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. I haven't seen better as of yet (excluding games not actually out yet like, The Division). There are hardly any glitches and the game never froze for me.Online:Online is fun but strange. It has a strange take on progression. It consists of challenges and kills. Your rank determines how many challenges you've done. You start with almost every gun and the selection isn't massive there's a few but not enough. The attachments are unlocked via challenges and kills. Sometimes if you are on a roll, it can be super fun. I've went on a crazy spree and picked up a mini gun and just mowed down loads of folk. It can get quite intense. The maps are generally good but it's very easy to spawn camp.Overall:I very much enjoyed this game. A few of my friends didn't like it but it's just a preference. If you liked the last two it's a must buy. If you haven't played them then it's worth buying because there isn't a huge amount of PS4 exclusives and it's a genuinely decent game. At the very least it's worth playing, so if your not sure, borrow it of a friend.I'd take 2 off the score because the story could have been better and the campaign should had stayed a shooter instead of slowing down a couple of times.8 out of 10

Graphics and storyline wise, this is a great game. I have always been an xbox gamer and only recently made the transition to PS4 and so far, I am very pleased and impressed. I thought that a good way to make the transition would be to give one of the killzones a run through as I have never had the opportunity to play one before, with it being PlayStation exclusive. I was pleased that I did.I quickly got drawn into the plot of things and picked up the general story and plot within about 10 minutes of gaming. You have a general idea of what happened before this game, even if you have never played the previous versions and you fall in love with the story line. The graphics and physics in the game are insane. You will, without a doubt have several jaw dropping moments as you take in the immense detail in the visuals. Massive thumbs up to the developers of this game, the PS4 is so powerful and to say this was one of the first games to come out on it, they certainly set the standards high for other developers. There are some negatives to my gaming experience, however. I do feel as though some of the missions are way too confusing and you can quickly lose track of what it is you are actually supposed to be doing. The mission objectives are not very clear and there has been times where I have actually had to look up walkthroughs on YouTube not to find better ways of doing things but to actually find out what/where I am actually supposed to be going. To explain further, the maps are huge (which is good, don't get me wrong) and when you reach a certain checkpoint there will be a small beacon sort of thing appear somewhere on your screen showing you where you have to go next, which is great, but the beacon seems to disappear after about 10 seconds until you actually get close to it and do a scan of the area. There may be a way to change this, I haven't really poked around in the settings yet but it is slightly frustrating when a lot of the time you don't even know if you are heading in the right direction. Don't see this as a big negative though, some people may prefer it as it leaves the game open for you to complete the missions how you wish without essentially 'going through on rails'.Lastly, I feel that some missions are way too long. This means that you sometimes end up getting a bit bored, especially when there isn't much action involved, but I guess that is Sony's way of doing things. It's just the game style.Overall, great game, stunning graphics and a big thumbs up to the developers. Although I do feel improvements need to be made, it's not really for me to judge as a bit of a 'noob' and I know many people do enjoy the franchise as it is.

I've been a Killzone fan since the first one was announced. I admit it, back then when I was practically dying of Halo 2 anticipation/hype. The moment I laid eyes on the first preview screenshots, the striking visual design grabbed me and I kept a close eye on it from then on. The original Killzone bit off more than the PS2 could chew and the game play suffered for it, the notion of it being a "Halo killer" was laughableWhich brings us to Killzone Shadow Fall. Let's get the most obvious thing out of the way first: This game is a dazzling graphics showcase. Sweet, sweet eye candy. Even some hardcore PC gamers are able to admit this. Out of all of the next gen games I've seen this year, this is the one that screams "NEXT GEN" the loudest. It doesn't run at 60fps all the time, but it sure seems close to it a lot of the time. It certainly runs at more than 30, no doubt about that. The game play has changed, yet it still feels like Killzone to me. The pendulum has swung back from the "WW2 in teh future vs. the Space Nazis" and closer to the feel of the original Killzone. It's a futuristic cold war secret agent mission, where you're a one-man infiltration unit using some fancy gadgets. There are a few big battle set pieces where you're fighting along side a squad of allies, but they're few and far between. There are a few issues with the designers being typically stingy and thoughtless with checkpoints, and there's a particular section towards the end of the game that is one of the most frustrating sequences I've played through in many, many years. I have honest serious doubts that they even showed it to play testers, because if they had I simply cannot fathom how they could have approved it to be in the game. I'm not kidding, it made me fantasize about kidnapping and torturing some Guerrilla Games staff so that I could cause them the same amount of pain they caused me. Still, a few rough patches aside, it's a very good single player campaign that, while very different, is on par with Killzone 2 in terms of length (about 10 hours, if you're not some freak who plays as if you're being timed) and fun. Even the aforementioned rage-inducing free fall sequence wasn't bad enough to merit taking off a whole star.Seriously, I would love for anyone to come up with any Playstation launch title since the console debuted in 1995 that's as strong as this one. I honestly can't think of any.As for the multiplayer, I'm only writing this review during a new new match loading up.... Addictive to say the least!

I shan't spoil anything in this review. Just the basics.Single playerGreat pacing (I see why some may find parts of it odd but I enjoyed the fact that it's not just shoot shoot shoot), gorgeous graphics; excellent voice acting and performances from the actors. The open ended nature may be daunting but also allows player agency to some extent. The OWL is great and you'll need it a lot. The touchpad will take some getting used to, if you're used to the VITA. It's a fair length for the campaign and the game does well to engross you into the story to make you go through all you do. It's also the best looking game on next gen consoles, sporting the highest resolution of textures and details at 1080p.MultiplayerAs they say; XP is last-gen.Progression is based on skill. Individual and team. You have access to the Guerrilla armoury depending on your class to choose whatever weapon suits your playstyle. No need to grind to get the guns you want. 3 Classes. Assault Support Scout. Assault are the more aggressive with SMGs and light weapons to aid fast movement across the map among other abilities, such as shields and speed boost. Supports are versatile and have miniguns and LMGs to suppress enemies. They can revive allies and drop spawn beacons. Scout are the snipers and stealthy types who have cloaks and can teleport; just like fans have always wanted. Support also have a teleport ability but it works slightly differently.Primary game mode is Warzones; which have you complete a series of objectives in a series to form a set. But this is customisable to cycle through standard modes like Team DeathMatch, Capture and Hold, Beacon Theft, Capture and Connect; among others. Players can edit the rules in more ways than other titles on the market allow you to. So there will always be something fresh to try out if one mode is not exactly to your taste. The most important thing about it is that it feels so balanced. Running at steady frames, with a counter for every hitch. There is a huge meta-game to unravel, explore and revel in.A great game with great variety. Guaranteed enjoyment. A true showcase of your brand new PS4.

Well, my first battle war-game type shoot-em-up after Revelations 2 (first game on my ps 4) for the ps 4. This game is absolutely amazing to say the least. After never having a games console, the sheer scale and brilliance of what you can do with the latest ps 4 games console is out of this world, especially graphically. Some of the scenes are unbelievably realistic which really helps to immerse you in the action. The weight of the guns and the recoil is something i didn't think could be achieved on any game at all. Some of the opening scenes are bloody hard and i spent hours trying to get through some battle-fights as the action can be truly fast and frenetic as would be the case in a theater of war In some scenes you have no idea who and where the shooting is coming from, which all lends to the steep learning curve of trying to use all the aspects of the controllers functions. The game does take a lot of initiative to working out where you want to go, as there is no on-screen plan view (map) which is used on most games nowadays. This can seem off-putting at first as you can seem lost at times without this function. But part of the fun of this game is its unpredictability which for some gamers is off-putting. I found the lack of guidance frustrating at times, but it all helps to make you think to work it out. The OWL is an essential and must use feature as i think it would be impossible to complete many scenes without it, there are too many enemies and just to much going on in a fire-fight. I like this aspect and also the stealth aspect where you're quietly planning to obliterate your enemies without much fuss and bravado.Altogether it's a multi-level FPS with many puzzle and stealth elements, so not for everyone who likes clearly defined games, but an action game which really pays dividends for persistence and patience.A stunning game, but not the easiest to learn..

Being a long term Killzone fan I was cautiously optimistic for Shadow Fall. The game looked beautiful and it definately looked fun, it looked like the developer, Guerilla Games, removed a certain spark from it. However I am proud to report Killzone:SF is an exceptional launch game for the Playstation 4. It features all the strong components of a good FPS while maintaining the series signature marks. The story involves Helghast being forced to live alongside Vektans on their home planet after the petrocide attack. It can devolve into a silly mish-mash of espionage at times, but the story is generally well presented and offers some surprising twists.Compared to previous KZ games the story is definately strong.Gameplay wise it is definately a KZ game. It definately feels lighter than previous games, but thats because your a spy of sorts, not a simple heavy soldier on the ground. Guns feel weighty and powerful to shoot with lot of cool variations on well known weaponry. Multiple objectives are presented throughout levels, which definately creates much less of a linear feeling to the game.Graphically Shadow Fall is the best looking game on any console to date. Textures and tessellation is superb making the planet of Vekta feel like a real, living world. Facial animation is spot on, showing some of the strongest Mo-Cap this side of La Noir.Multiplayer is strong featuring 3 unique classes, unlockable attachments and features. It's not quite as strong as KZ3's but it runs at a steady 60fps and features strong, community built matches.Overall I love Killzone:SF. The story can devolve into occasionaly corny spy tale, but the gameplay is fun and fluid, graphics are amazing, the best to be seen on any console and multiplayer is fun classed based mayhem.

I got a copy of Killzone from Amazon on launch day to accompany my previous pre order of the PS4. As far as launch games go this game is fantastic and is a must play game. The game install is a large chunk (around 40GB) but with the cleverness of the PS4 this can be done in the back ground as you pound your way through the game. The single player I have played so far is excellent, a good mix of story suspense and action. I have only completed the first 3 levels but have tried to pace myself on the story (trying to find collectibles). The OWL system is a little tricky to use with the touch screen on the controller but every other control feels very natural. The graphical display of the game is excellent,it is a great game to show off the new PS4 with, I particularly liked the render distance of the game, the vastly detailed lighting as well as water and reflections. As a launch game it really lets you know there is so much the PS4 can deliver on in the future. The muliplayer is simple to jump into and I have spent most of my time in Warzone game mode team death matches which have all ran without any technical hitches. There are 3 classes to pick from scout / assult / support and weapons to be found in each. The smoothness of the multplayer mode is the most noticable step up from PS3 shooters as well as excellent map layouts. Graphically on multiplayer the game is still brilliant to watch and on a par with the single player, even the excellent lighting and refleciton graphics carry on into this game mode. My only reason for 4 stars is I feel there could be more content, which will probably follow in the way of DLC.Overall this game is brilliant and a must own for the PS4

This game got me very excited about the PS4 while I was still in two minds about which of the next-gen consoles I was going to invest in. The graphics looked spectacular and I was intrigued despite never really being too interested in FPS games.I'm going to start with my only negative point: the single player campaign. Not that this is bad, it isn't by any means. It just on occasion feels like you're replaying parts from earlier in the story. To me, it seems like it had been stretched out just a little too much and that has left a couple of sections of the campaign lacking something. I hadn't played the previous Killzone titles and thought this may be a problem if the story followed on but while I don't know the exact details of the earlier games, the story and events are explained pretty well as you go through. The multiplayer is thoroughly enjoyable - and that comes from someone who generally avoids playing FPS games online. You have the standard team death matches alongside a couple of other team-based games, each of which present your team with a mission - for example, to defend a set of generators will the other team tries to destroy them. With 24 players on each map, it can be fast paced and borderline chaotic, but the maps are large and good enough that it never feels crowded. There are individual challenges to complete during your online career and on completing these you unlock extra attachments for weapons and can upgrade your abilities.Overall, a genuinely good launch title with an excellent multiplayer and therefore a long shelf life. Definitely worth the money.

Now I'll start by saying I'm a big Killzone fan. I like the weighty movement and the hefty gunplay, the dark stories and the floored characters. I enjoyed Killzone 2 (missed part 1), and absolutely loved KZ3. This fourth instalment has been getting reviews in the 70s from most gaming websites, and I just can't understand why. Where I've been thoroughly enjoying the story, they complained about it. Where I've thought all the voice acting was top notch, they said it was embarrassing and stilted. They talked about the plot hitting you over the head with the "barbarity of war", but I've not felt this at all. It's just a smart, well put together tale and, for me,the best story of all so far.The gunplay is as solid as it's always been, but there are some cool new weapons and the drone really changes things up; trying to decide when and how to deploy the OWL drone is one of the best elements to the game. I've been playing through the campaign on hard and one thing I will say is the AI isn't brilliant. However, they're perfectly capable and if you want perfect AI there's always multiplayer. I certainly don't mind them being a little dumb, and frequently take advantage of it in tricky situations. Now I'm back on Helgan, torn apart my the destruction at the end of KZ3 and, well, it's just BREATHTAKING. It compelled me to write this review in an attempt to redress the balance somewhat. If you like COD, this might not be fore you. But if you like a more thoughtful, skill based shooter I couldn't recommend this higher. I'm absolutely loving it, both online and offline.

I really like this game. Graphically, it's great, the controls are responsive, the guns pack punch and there is a good variety in the environments/levels.There are some touches that I love - for example the audio logs you pick up play out of the PS4 controller. It sounds like it would be gimicky, but it really does sound very effective with it coming from a different sound source. The OWL is really good fun, and gives you some good tactical options, as well as ways of making your way across maps. There are some things that I really liked but which I can imagine some might find frustrating.Firefights can be tough, and it is sometimes difficult to see where the bullets are coming from. I really like this,as it encourages more tactical combat and not running in without caution. Others who prefer a more Halo-like experience aren't going to get as much out of it.There are objective markers that appear if you press up on the D pad. However, it is not always clear what it is you have to do. This means that you have to really look around and use some initiative, work it out for yourself a little bit. You are not completely led by the hand and I personally enjoy that. There is one that is frustrating than fun - there are some levels that are very dark and there is no torch. Your OWL does create some light if you deploy it, but It means that you can stumble around a little blindly looking for a staircase or a ladder, for example.Overall, a fun, gorgeous game that offers a lot of enjoyment, with a couple of flaws which shouldn't deter you from buying it.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is slightly challenging to review, and how much you like/dislike the game depends on how you approach it. I've never really played a Killzone game before unless me giving it a go on the PSP back in the day counts. Lack of options on the PS4 made me pick this one up, and I certainly wasn't disappointed.I think this game is being treated slightly unfairly because people forget that this is a PS4 launch title. I'm almost positive that while developing the game, the team was specifically told what was expected of them - a solid tech demo of the PS4 with a story tacked on to it. If you look at it that way, KZ: SF does the job, and it does it well. The game brilliantly shows off the PS4 and what it's capable of. I'm a single-player type of person so the campaign was all I played. I really loved the atmosphere, the setting, the graphics and even the tense music in some parts. The voice acting was so-so, however. Now, if I look at this game from a KZ enthusiast's point of view, I can understand why it must have disappointed some people. Even for a newcomer, the story is pretty mediocre. It's forgettable and you can tell that there are some gaping holes in the plot. Additionally, I wasn't expecting the voice acting to be so dull.Overall, as a launch title (which is how I viewed it), I give this game 4/5 stars.Compared to other shooters from the previous gen (and I'm not talking about generic CoD and Battlefield stuff), it's 3/5.

Never played a Killzone before, the only thing I knew was that it was a first person shooter. Never the less, I've just received my PS4 and after checking reviews, was more confident that Killzone would deliver than Battlefield 4.So I obviously bought it, and have begun to play through the game.First impressions are that the graphics are genuinely near flawless, and undoubtedly show off the superior capability of the PS4. It has futuristic graphics which I expected it would take a couple of years for the PS4 to achieve. While me having the Fifa 14 demo may appear irrelevant, I thought EA had achieved a solid standard... and then I found this. While I can't comment on whether the game was what I expected, the range of weapons is simply immense and compares favourably to Black Ops 2, of which had a brilliant arsenal. The open areas they have based it on, benefit this game greatly. You don't have a crew to follow either, as sometimes having them makes the game feel like a walkthrough. The storyline is also very difficult, as unlike Battlefield or Call of Duty it doesn't give obvious hints. You will end up dying an awful lot, yet the frustration does not seem to be there. You need to be very thoughtful, and the OWL Drone is crucial as figuring out when to deploy it is very important. It isn't solely about shooting, as you need to find collectables. Please buy it, instead of pumping money into Activision. You will NOT regret it.

I must admit I was always left slightly let down by all previous Killzone games due to the slow feel of the gameplay and the amount of bugs I experienced (i.e. not being able to shoot and kill enemies while they were going over walls or down ladders etc.) which left me to not buy Killzone 3.I purchased this game after playing online at a friends house and because I heard a lot of hype about it on the PS4 and how they had taken the series in a different direction and I must say I love it!The graphics are something to truly be admired and although early in the PS4's life really begin to show the possibilities and give a glimpse of what we as gamers can look forward to.The story mode is fun but can be quite a challenge as well, possibly too much of a challenge for most reading other reviews. I am only about a third through the campaign missions but I only got the game 4 days ago.The multiplayer is fun (I have only played team deathmatch so far) and it's great to see the amazing visuals carried across online where typically on previous gen consoles online does mean a dip in visuals.Overall a must have for any PS4 owners and it is one of the best launch titles. If you aren't getting a PS4 until mid next year then you may not get it as other big name games (watchdogs, infamous etc) will be out meaning this will probably be overlooked but even then I say defiantly worth a play!

I wanted my first PS4 game to be a looker, and so I chose Killzone based purely on aesthetics. And yes, it is a beautiful-looking game. The graphics are unbelievable, and the game plays smoothly with no lag or glitches. But what really surprised me was the excellent gameplay. It's a hard game and I don't generally do `shooters' mostly due to my nerves of rubber and lack of button-pushing coordination during stressful moments. Despite this, though, I found Killzone to be very playable, even for a keen but unskilled muppet like me. Like any game, there were a few frustrating moments, and my controller now has teeth marks but on the whole I found the level of difficulty a good match, and I suspect the harder settings would be a good match for seasoned shooter fans.On a side note, I know a few people have complained that they were being thrown way back after re-spawning or re-starting but I suspect there has been a patch to fix that because I always re-spawned almost exactly where I fell flat on my face.Killzone is a great game to show off a mere fraction of what the PS4 can do, which makes me feel very excited for the console's future. I think some of the reviews for this game are a little bit harsh. I enjoyed the story, the voice acting was good and the entire game was well polished and delivered. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get shot in the back 20-30 times. Fun.
