Backpacks for laptops have been around for 20 years or more. The history of laptops goes from being quite large laptops, which became smaller notebooks, then moving back into ever larger and larger laptops, before metamorphosing into tablets. For many, the advent of the tablet resulted in the demise of the laptop, with either a tablet enhanced with the addition of a separate keyboard, or for those who require more web access and less keyboard input, a simple tablet sufficing. Fortunately there are some of us who still require a laptop for additional keyboard input, or to utilise main stream Windows or Apple software. This is the largest dedicated backpack that I have ever come across, but it caters really well for the transportable hardware that I regularly carry with me. In my pack I carry an Apple Mac Book, albeit only 13" (this case can accommodate a 16" laptop); safely padded and secure in a padded sleeve, an Amazon Kindle Fire 10 in a separate element of the main compartment (I can easily accommodate an ipad Pro too, when I have access to it) an Acer portable projector in the other compartment, complete with cablesr and controller/pointer and a degree of associated paraphenalia. The two side pockets and central pocket hold 3 chargers with ease, and the central pocket conveniently holds my mobile telephone, post it notes, pens, pencils and the internal net pocket holds USB sticks, headphones etc (there is a separate holder for headphones externally, but I use the. Bluetooth type now and so it is superfluous). All in all then, this pack is large, but for me, it allows me to carry everything I need from an IT perspective PLUS there is additional space to carry a couple of manuscript files/paper notebook or similar. Access is easy via the conveniently placed zips and you can effect a degree of limited security using a combination lock to secure the zipsSo how big is it and with so much stuff, is it comfortable carrying it? Well out and about, it is quite heavy, but I can carry it comfortably and far better than I can in a briefcase or similar. The straps are obviously adjustable, but so is the lumbar support, which you can adjust to suit the length of your back (there are four settings, which you access via an opening in the back and slide and lock into place appropriate to need) - the weight is felt across the shoulders and lumbar region and therefore taking the time to adjust the settings to maximise comfort is essential. The whole bag feels pretty strong and durable and I anticipate that this bag will act as a storage bag for all of my portable IT as well as allowing me to take it with me as I travel. It is far from cheap to purchase, but I do believe that it will last a long time and far longer than the Amazon basics case which it is going to replace.

I've started using this bag recently and the first thing I noticed is how spacious it is. Looking at the Amazon pictures I was a bit concerned before it came that I wouldn't be able to fit my laptop in there (with charger) plus a lunchbox plus a 1 litre bottle, plus a book to read, plus a thin coat, plus an umbrella, but there is plenty of space because there are plenty of pockets, many with zips and double zips too to keep the contents secure. The laptop is safe and secure in its snug pocket and the rest fit in elsewhere, also pretty snuggly. The selling point of this bag I guess is the lumbar bar in it.This is like in computer chairs.Q: "Does this mean it feels like you're sitting down when you have it on?"A: No.The lumbar bar has 4 adjustable positions but no guidance on where on your back this should be, so I'm just guessing based on whether it is comfortable or not, but I am not an expert and others may be better versed on the correct positioning of the lumbar support. The lumbar bar is also lightweight so it doesn't feel like you are carrying a heftier backpack than normal. My back does get sweaty when walking with this, but that is normal for me. I do wonder if it can be removed though. It doesn't seem that it can be easily so I guess this bag will not be washed in a washing machine. The shoulder straps are great too. They are "shock-absorbing" with extra padding in there making them comfortable on the shoulders. The thing that is missing from the bag that I would have liked is a strap at the top so I could carry this like a briefcase (this would help with lifting it up and down off of train shelves that are above the heads of passengers). There is a strap on the back behind the shoulder straps but that is not the same.Overall though this is great. It also comes with a lifetime warranty so maybe in the future as I lie on my deathbed old and grey, my heart barely beating, I'd be able to beckon one of my nearest and dearest towards me with the frail and wrinkled index finger of my right hand and whisper in their ear my last words - "I got this bag many years ago and look, I still have it, because every time it broke the company gave me a new one. It has pockets for your laptop, your drink and..." (dead).

I'm an IT contractor and lug two laptops into work every day. I have three (17.3", 15.6", plus a smaller 12.5" Lenovo thinkpad (pen enabled) for meetings. Previously I have also had one of the largest laptops available (the large and very thick Alienware 17). Needless to say, I have got through a few laptop bags, and this one looks to be one of the better ones I have seen.It has a well padded compartment for the laptop itself, and the compartment is very spacious. The Amazon entry says 15.6", the documentation with the bag says 16", and when I tried to put my largest current laptop in (a 17.3" MSI Apache gaming machine), it almost fit. So lots of overcapacity. In fact,if you look at the detailed Amazon product details, the max screensize is given as 17 inches!Despite the roominess, its actually a compact bag, and will fit everything you need; laptop, mouse, psu and quite a few compartments left over to act as an office day bag/briefcase. Including the section for the laptop, there are 5 separate zippered compartments in all. For example, if you use the padded compartment for your laptop and peripherals only, there is still one other large compartment that fits A4 documents, and another that is designed as a pencil case. One thing not really expanded in the Amazon product listing is the lumbar support, which along with the padded straps makes this a very comfortable laptop bag to carry. As well as comfort, the lumbar support insert also produces an air gap between your back and the rucksack, so no sweaty spine if you have to run for the train!See the two included images that show the lumbar support plus the two air inlet gaps at the bottom. Note that its adjustable, so will fit a variety of backs.Downsides? It is made of tough but synthetic material bu tit is a bit stiff when you first get it. It doesn't smell at all though (the cheaper ones tend to!).Would have preferred a 17.3 inch rucksack option for my larger laptop; a shame because it almost fits!Overall a definite hit; roomy, well padded and comfortable, plus looks like it will last a long time.

This Kensington 15.6" Contour Laptop Bag (rucksack) looks and feels well made, the bag is made in robust black nylon with good quality zips. The standout feature is an integral adjustable semi-rigid lumbar support. Whilst designed around accommodating a laptop this pack has three central zippered compartments with plenty of internal pockets/compartments plus two zippered side compartments one of which will accommodate a standard can or bottle. In addition, there is a cable port for headphones etc. a hanging loop and grab handle (which will also fit over a wheeling trolley handle).Having used this bag for some days now my impression is of a comfortable, capacious rucksack that can carry a significant payload of IT and office bits and pieces and organise them well. Even laden up with 10Kg plus of stuff the contoured back support and ventilated back/strap fabric make this a comfortable sack to carry even for prolonged periods. The things I'd like to see changed in the next iteration are; there is no chest strap or key/ticket compartment on the straps plus the zip pulls have no extensions for use with gloves although the metal pulls are quite chunky. Also, whilst adequate, the main laptop compartment is not as generously padded as some, and there is no Velcro security tab at the top to prevent the bag being opened and the computer being slid out.In terms of styling although there is a Kensington badge on the outside of the rucksack it does have a slightly bland "own label look". This slightly austere appearance could perhaps have been cured by some standout zip pulls/extensions, the use of a few contrasting panels rather than an all black finish and perhaps some distinctive edging. Having mentioned those ommissions they are cosmetic details which for most people won't detract much from the day to day practicality and good value of this laptop bag.In summary, this is a good value, generally well thought out and comfortable laptop bag that has sufficient capacity/compartments to organise your IT/office accoutrements whilst on the move.

I have been using this back pack almost daily for the past 2 and a half years.Overall I have found it to be very comfortable durable and versatile.I've used this backpack as a commuter, and while travelling. I've gone acrossJapan twice over with this thing, and even climbed mount Fuji wearing it. I don't meanto imply that It would hold up as a rugged survival back pack, but it stands up to daily wearand tear incredibly well. I have yet to notice even minor breakage or tearing. The bottom is covered in a rugged vinyl texture, so the bag can be set down even on rough materials without wear. The backpack is contoured to fit around a back in a very ergonomic way.At first I foundthe built in contour system to be somewhat uncomfortable. But eventually I found a positionwhich suited my back, and now I hardly notice it when I'm wearing the thing. The shape of the backpack initially led me to believe that there wasn't actually much usable internal space. But the back holds large books and 15" Laptops quite easily, and supports them very close to your center of gravity. Even a 1.5 Kilo laptop is comfortably carried for 3 or 4 hours, without strain. My only issue is that in the summer the lower back isn't well ventilated, and becomes quite sweaty. The other compartments are flexible, and work well to carry auxiliary laptop equipment like cables, mice and adapters. The bag's structure is rather rigid due to the lumbar support structure, and in certain dimensions it doesn't compress well. If you need to fit this bag into very narrow spaces, it won't be easy. The Water holder on the side can only fit a 500ml plastic bottle effectively, anything larger tends to slip and fall out the bag is jostled too much while running, but i have found I can fit larger bottles into the side pockets with some care.

A fairly sturdy laptop backpack made with heavy nylon fabrics. There are 5 double-zippered compartments; 2 on the sides (with an open side pouch one of these), 2 on the front and the main interior compartment with a laptop sleeve inside. All but the side pockets have some kind of storage webbing or pouches inside - webbing, pen pouches, etc. and a small carabiner-style clip - and there's a good amount of space for pens, notepads, your laptop charger and some cables etc. There's also a plastic lumbar-support frame on the back inside some mesh/webbing; you can adjust this to ride higher or lower on your back and leave an air-gap to ventilate your lower back. As a minor gripe, although there are a couple of plastic d-rings on the bottom of the shoulder straps, there are no chest- or belly-straps which would prevent the straps from slipping off narrower shoulders. It all feels very well-made with heavy stitching and fabrics, however, and by design, it seems to be weighted such that it will tend to sit vertically upright on a rectangular base if you put it down without falling over. I'm unsure exactly how weatherproof it is, but the stiff construction makes natural "boxes" from the compartments; unless you stuff absolutely every square centimetre of it, these natural "boxes" will keep rain etc. from touching anything inside the pouches in all but the worst weather by running it all down the outside fabrics instead. There are really only 2 downsides I've noticed - this bag is fairly bulky, as the stiff internal compartments don't really let it flatten out. It's also pretty heavy on its own, and more so once you start adding items inside it; when I transferred the items from my old backpack to this, it was noticeably heavier than the old backpack.

Whilst this would be a traditional carrier for a student Uni (or a professional travelling light) , I have looked at this case for our International holiday travel ( aeroplane ,bus train) where a main case is acceptable in a hold but where electronics , valuables and medicines need to be carried in person and stored locally in an overhead locked .This case ticks the boxes. Its key features are :-Back – adjustable lumbar support ( Four positions) and adjustable shoulder straps - can be adjusted to ones personal shape and set to balance properly when being carried on ones back. There is also a small carry loop on the top.Front pocket – pens and small sundry items , cards etcMiddle pocket - mouse ,phone, ( 4 x mesh pockets) – could also take various sizes of iPadCentral ( padded pocket) – For a 15.6” ( and smaller) laptop and room for some bulkier items ( Papers , small cameras , iPads , medicines etc) .NOTE - You can just get a 17” laptop ( Samsung RF711) in the central compartment but NOT in the properly protected padded sectionI found that ,in addition to an 11” MacAir ( for travel blog) in the padded section I could get most of my medicines in the central section as well as some support items for small cameras ( for local colour pictures).Side – 1 x water bottle pocket with zip pocket ; other side a zipped pocket – can fit in small electrical items like adaptors.Price – you get what you pay for and this is a quality product and would hope it would last several years.Looking forward to testing when on our next land trip abroad.Based on the packing test and simple adjustment for comfort carrying around the house – rate 5 stars.

Firstly the photographs of this item on the Amazon page are a little deceiving. The pictures look as if there are light grey panels on the front of the rucksack, but this isn't the case, the rucksack is the same black colour all over the rucksack. There are lots of pockets, which is good, a small front pocket is designed for pens, phone etc. There's a larger pocket with three netted holders. You could stick small stuff in here (your phone again, or wallet) and maybe an A4 binder, etc. This is really designed for your mouse, charger, etc. The largest pocket is designed for your 15.6 laptop. I've tried mine and it fitted fine even though the Acer I have is on the large side. The most important thing though with any laptop back is the comfort when hauling your laptop around on trains, etc. This bag is the first I've ever had which includes a lumbar support, which has four different settings. I found this really useful and it certainly helped. Usually, you need the strength of an Ox to carry around your laptop. This was a very good feature, which actually did the job it was designed to do and took a lot of strain out of carrying my weighty laptop around. The bag itself looks functional rather than attractive, but I prefer this as I don't want anything I carry to look enticing to potential thieves! The two back straps are nicely padded and felt comfortable. There is also a separate light grey carry handle on the rear so you can hold your bag in one hand if you wish.A well-made strong back-pack designed for carrying a 15.6 laptop. Lots of pockets, strong stitching and functional.

Great quality backpack / ruck sack laptop holder from Kensington. Materials, stitching and zips are all top quality, and the bag is big enough to securely hold a 15.6 inch laptop, whilst offering excellent protection and cushioning whilst being carried. Additional compartments are big enough for mouse, power supply, leads, USB sticks, SMART phone and charger, as well as a dedicated area for holding a drinks bottle. So, if you are looking for a backpack with a truly excellent amount of storage space, and multitude of pockets and compartments, this is a great choice. This particular backpack isn't cheap, and there are far cheaper, and very similar looking bags available, However,I have owned a couple of cheaper bags, and they really are false economy. Not only are they inferior quality, but quickly show signs of wear, with zips failing, and fabric getting dirty, and sometimes fraying and tearing. In my opinion this Kensington bag is well worth the additional cost, and I have a 17" version that has been used daily for a couple of years now, and is still as good as new.The deciding factor for me when buying a laptop backpack is how comfortable it is to wear, often for long periods of time. This particular bag offers really excellent support, especially for your back and shoulders, with a lot of padding, and designed to fit the contours of your body. It does this well, and is actually a pleasure to wear, rather than a chore. Highly recommended, and I will be buying another one for my daughter to take her laptop and project related hardware and software to school.

So, you need to take a laptop to work? What sort of bag should you get - messenger/rucksack/trolley? Well I've plumped for rucksacks for years, easy to get on and off, no worries about them swinging around and you can put them pretty much anywhere! This rucksack is very similar to other high end laptop rucksacks that I've owned.Lots of pockets to put things in, I work in IT I have lots of things to put in (cables, external HDD, more cables and even more cables) I also manage to sneak my lunch in as well. There is a bit of a pocket at the back for putting your laptop in, it's a bit flimsy but to be honest as long as you don't absolutely ram the rucksack fill it should be okay (alternatively getan external neoprene case to go on on your rucksack before placing in this. The material is the usual rip stop fabric that bags are made of and the design is a bit basic, it definitely favours function over fashion. There is a hole at the top to feed a headphone cable through if required, although I imagine that most people would be using bluetooth to their phones these days.Overall it's a decent rucksack, lots of space, it could perhaps provide a bit more protection for laptops and it is definitely functional.

This is a smart rucksack made of a tough black fabric. It is designed to hold your laptop and all its accessories securely but it is a bit more than that. It organises all your laptop/stationery needs with a padded compartment for your laptop/tablet that fits a device with a screen size up to seventeen inches. It also has numerous other compartments/pockets for pens and pencils, files and folders, books, your phone, wallet and it even has a water bottle holder. All these compartments have zip closures so your belongings are secure from casual pickpockets. When fully packed it could be quite heavy so it has been designed to help you bear the weight with broad padded shoulder straps and a lumber support. It is very comfortable to wear.Although perhaps primarily designed for smart young executives, it would be an ideal bag for students or teachers who constantly have to travel between lectures and classes – or anyone who has to lug their office around with them.At first sight you might think £64.31 is quite expensive – there are indeed cheaper bags on the market (and much more expensive ones too) - but this is a good quality bag and worth the price.

This backpack is very comfortable, being anatomically adjustable to your back it almost becomes a part of yourself. It is also very useful with so many compartments idealized for each specific item you normally require in an office. I have transformed it into my mobile office everytime I need to travel. The only but...it has five outside zippers, three of which are double so can support lockers and this is where the but resides,I am not going to lock and unlock three lockers everytime I need to use it.So I end up keeping the valuables in the larger compartment which is locked while the others are normally almost empty. I would suggest that all the compartments be inside one big double zipper for safety. However I still rate this article five star when I compare it to everything else on the market. It's become my unseparable companion on trips.

This laptop bag is utterly gorgeous. It's a good, practical size (I can fit A4 sized books and files in plus iPad and other necessary handbag essentials; plus it oozes style and quality. The straps are beautiful, soft but hard wearing, and are long enough to pop over the shoulder, sling over an arm, or just carry in your hand. The fabric is brilliantly tough, hard wearing and waterproof. My black one is not just a flat Matt black, it has a depth and texture to the colour which I love. The interior of the back is a dark, plain colour, which again I love, stylish, but also helps to see the contents of the bag easily. As you would expect from such a bag, there are a few handy pockets too.The stitching is superb, and the quality overall is outstanding.I love this bag. I think it's exceptionally well designed and made

I have had a Compaq laptop backpack for nearly 20yeras now. It’s still going strong, but starting t o fray lit little around the zipper, and so sometimes the frayed edges get caught in the zip.Anyway, I was really pleased to be offered this one to try on Vine. It is a totally different prospect from the Compaq -much more rigid, and relies on internal pockets it hold your laptop rather than a separate padded pouch. The quality seems excellent, and it has about half a dozen little pockets to hold all the accessories and extras you could dream of. My only reservation is that it’s a little heavy compared to the Compaq (not massively so, but enough so I notice)and the ridigity means you can feel it on your back if you don’t adjust it optimally.Otherwise, excellent.

Lovely top quality backpack with comfy back support and padded in all the right areas. The multiple pockets to fit in pens, books, phones, ipods, ipads and laptops is ample enough for any one from student to lawyer etc... It stands up lovely and doesn't keel over even when full of items because of the sturdy plastic frame that is also great for cyclists or motorbike riders, very biker friendly.Pockets on the side for quick access for change or tickets, drinks etc. In a normal backpack you can feel the lumps and bumps poking you in the back with this one you can't.It is a more organised backpack with the separate pockets and each one being well padded, than a normal backpack. You can see and feel the quality, well worth the price.
