This Kensington Laptop Cooling Stand is designed for laptops of up to 17" and is powered by a USB connection. The unit comes presentably boxed and complete with a 2 year limited warranty. The stand is finished in black and grey. Underneath the unit it features a grey non-slip fabric base which makes having the stand on your lap both comfortable and secure. There are outlets for the fans on either side and at the rear there's a flap which contains a short, captive USB lead which resides clipped into a compartment underneath the flap. If the USB lead is in use there's a cable outlet so you can shut the compartment door. If you are using the unit on a desktop the cover flap can also be used as a stand to give more rake to the cooler, plus at the front there are small rubber feet to prevent slippage. On the upper surface are four longish rubber pads to hold your laptop securely on a hard plastic platform in the centre of which are the two fan ducts. The unit has twin fans but no detail on their current consumption is given so you don't know the impact on your laptop's battery life.I've used a few of these cooler stands and this one is very quiet plus the fans seem effective. There's no on/off switch and if your laptop is running low on juice you'd just unplug the USB cable for the cooler to reduce power consumption which is practical but not elegant. Unlike some other models there's no speed switch for the fans plus there's no LED illumination of the fans either - a lot of cooling stands look rather striking thanks to the fans being backlit by switchable blue or red LEDs, although, to be fair, the LEDs serve no purpose other than to look "cool" and consume electricity.I tried this Kensington stand with my 15.3" Toshiba Laptop and it works well - it is very comfortable making my computer much more usable as a laptop. I also tried my girlfriend's 17" Asus laptop which only just fitted on the stand and was not nearly as stable - it seemed almost too big despite this stand being rated for computers up to 17". In use the fans genuinely keep the laptop cool and no heat is transmitted to your lap which isn't the case if you simply use your laptop without a cooler. However, given that this cooler is almost the size of medium laptop (although not as heavy) you are most likely to use this unit say, at home, rather than carry it around with you on your commute. This is a well made laptop cooler but could be a bit small for a 17" laptop plus, it's also a bit more bland than some models I've seen eg. there's no fan switch, no backlight and it looks rather understated although those factors don't really impact on its functionality.

My HP Envy 15.4" laptop has it's fans and grills on the underside and when I have the laptop on my lap or when I am in bed, the duvet blocks the air getting out of easily, the laptop starts to warm up quickly and the fans kick in at a higher and noisier rate. The idea with this cooling stand is simple, two fans draw in warm air from the middle of the stand and blow it out at both sides. It's USB powered, so no need for batteries and has its own USB cable built in that is stored away under a flap at the back (that also doubles up as a stand). The construction is a light plastic shell with grills on top and at the side. There are the two USB powered fans in the middle and the underside is a lightly padded fabric. There's also four low profile grippy pads at each corner to stop the laptop moving around (though my HP Envy has its own small rubber feet to do just that). Finally, there is no on / off switch. USB power automatically starts the fans. I don't know how much extra drain on the laptop battery these fansThe USB cable is long enough to reach the side USB port on either side of a 15.6" laptop, however does it stick out quite a bit. I dug out a 4 inch USB extender cable, one with a 90 degree plug on one end. That meant the cable was more flush to the side of the laptop.Do note, this cooling stand is not silent, it has it's own hum when powered up. In a rough and ready test, I used an audio level meter app on my mobile phone to measure sound levels. The laptop on a table at a distance of about 4 inches from the fan recorded a level of 28db (decibels), that's about the same as whispering. With the Kensington Cooling Stand powered up, there was about a 4db notable increase in sound. Not much, but the fans spin at a different pitch to those in the laptop, so once you hear them, they are very obvious. Anyway, if you're listening to music, watching movies or playing games (or wearing headphones) you won't notice any difference and the sounds are inaudible from the next room.In use? On my lap after an hour of browsing and game playing and I had no warmth transferred from the laptop to my legs. The laptop also did not spin up its internal fan(s), normally proof of the hardware getting hotter, so the Kensington Laptop Cooling Stand does a good job. For a newer laptop, it's a useful tool, for an older one (there's an old Microsoft Vista one at work that sounds like a jet taking off when it's been running for a while), it could be much more useful.

First off, as a regular laptop worker, I realised I had a need for this. I've been aware for some time that looking downwards is my default work position, and I know it has been doing me no good. The realisation is even stronger now I've had the chance to use a laptop raiser, as the difference in working posture is significant. All laptop raiser products will correct that, and this does a stellar job of that: my eyeline is corrected and my posture at the desk is instantly better. This particular model is very sturdily constructed and particularly robust. The payoff is in ease of carrying; the reinforced build makes it extremely durable, but it does make it a bit bulkier than some alternatives too. That said, the stand still errs on the right side of portability and should just fit into smaller backpacks (it folds down flat for stowing). It's not particularly heavy for the size, either.Compared to some stands I've seen, the footprint of this on a desk can be a bit larger, too, as the resting arm extends quite far back. Again, great for making it sturdy and stable, but it does take up a bit more room - a consideration if you work on the move on train / coffee shop tables, for instance. What I loved about this particular stand is the novel adjustment guide. You get a colour-coded chart on a piece of paper to place your hand on. Your hand size dictates the ideal, colour-matched setting on the stand to achieve an ideal eyeline to your laptop. Then, it's just a case of loosening the plastic nut, adjusting, then tightening to fix it in place. Nifty, and makes for a simple setup! You can place your laptop on it in two ways - the recommended way, and the other way round, too. The latter is probably not the intended use, since it's hard to type that way, but it props the laptop up almost vertically on the desk, which is excellent for viewing video. A handy side feature!A great choice in the array of options for laptop raisers. Buy this one for its robustness and stability on the desk. There are more portable alternatives available, but this one wins hands down on its strong build.

I have a mid-range gaming laptop and, yes, I do use it to game whilst it's on my lap. The problem with this is that my legs and clothing can block air intake ports, leading to overheating, which is deleterious to the computer's components in the long term, but also can become very uncomfortable on the legs.Prior to this I've used a laptop cooling stand, which I've rested on top of a lap-tray. This method has worked in the past but it is a bit of a faff and is fairly heavy. The Kensington Laptop Cooling Stand does everything my previous method does but is an integrated unit and is much lighter and less unwieldy. The underside is padded and so is comfortable to rest on your lap for extended periods. If, like me, you suffer from dry skin on the hands, you may find the synthetic material catches your skin when you touch it.It takes my 15.6" laptop with ease, though I can't see a 17" not working, as long as the air intakes match, though the USB cable maybe a little short. The fans are in a fixed position, so you're not able to line them up with the intakes on your laptop but blast air upward into the underside. they are a little noisy, much more so than the noise that emanates from my laptop but not at a horrible volume. As for their cooling ability, I can only give a subjective opinion on the fan, as I have no means to measure my laptop's component temperatures. I would say, yes, my laptop felt somewhat cooler with the fans than without and would be effective during a lengthy gaming session. There is a little flap on the back that doubles as a cover for the USB cable stowage and as a leg to rise the stand at the back. This has a small notch to allow the cable to pass through. The cable itself, as hinted above, is a little short and, though I was able to fit it into a port, struggled with those nearer the front. The aesthetic design is simple and pleasing, though nothing special - but you're not going to see much of it anyway.

This laptop support is made from two pieces of grey plastic held together by two chunky hinges near your wrists. To use it you open it up, which is a bit easier if you have fingernails, fold out the small metal bar and prop the two pieces of plastic in one of two positions to get the height and angle you require. When you carry this support around using the handle it looks okay. When you open it up to use it though, the inside surface of the plastic has a raised grid of plastic to give it strength but this is not what you'd call attractive. Given that the idea behind this laptop support is that it's lightweight - 513 grams - and portable and therefore likely to be used in places like coffeeshops you'd have thought that Kensington would have figured out some way to make it look attractive when it's actually being used. They chose to make it look its best when it's being carried around and not supporting your laptop.Anyway... it's mainly grey plastic, has a metal support bar, and on the top surface is a loop of dark grey grippy rubber that holds your laptop firmly in place. On the underside are four rubber feet that stops the whole thing sliding across your desk or table. In summary, this is a portable device and some concessions have been made in the way it looks in order to keep the weight down. It doesn't lock shut, is a little hard to open if like me you bite your fingernails. It will no doubt keep your laptop cooler, and might help you work in a more ergonomic posture. It does enable you to raise your laptop screen something like 9cm higher than if it were resting on a table which is a slight improvement but is nowhere near enabling you to keep your eyes and head level looking forward to see your screen, you still have to look down, just less so.

From Kensington, a company whose products I have always held in high regard, comes this elegant laptop cooling stand.Measuring, on the top face, 360 wide x 270mm from front to back the stand is supposed to take up to a 17" laptop. Mine is a 15.6" and slightly overhangs each edge so I suppose you might just get away with the bigger size. Manufactured from black moulded plastic the top plate has an attractive pattern embossed into it, which also contains the ventilation holes for the 2 x 80mm cooling fans. There are also 4 grey soft strips let into the top panel to give the laptop a cushioned rest. The stand is 30mm thick at its deepest point and the 2 end panels have ventilation slots moulded in them so the air flow is across and up doing away with the need for holes in the bottom panel. This bottom panel is covered in a grey spongy fabric material which provides a degree of comfort if you are resting it on your knees. Protection to hard surfaces is provided by 2 black rubbery foam strips stuck near to each edge and the front face. The USB power lead for the fans is housed under a hinged flap at the back of the stand. This flap will also act as an elevation stand if you want your laptop sloped. One nice little touch is the slot cut into the flap to house the cable should you want to use the stand with the flap closed.Plugging the USB lead into my laptop powered the cooling fans up and whilst not the quietest on the planet were unobtrusive against a general background noise. If I was using it in the dead of night I might unplug the fans and rely on natural convection, it will still have more cooling effect than leaving the laptop resting on its own base. All in all a nice, well made product from a company with a good reputation.

I have tried a good few laptop risers/stands, but this is by far the best I've had.All the others had adjustable height fittings, but could just never get me the exact height I wanted.I was forever getting a sore neck & back from leaning/hunching over my laptop and I couldn't stand it any more.So I decided to browse Amazon and see what I could find. This stand has the benefits of being adjustable in height from quite low, to really quite high.It also has, as you can see from the pictures, little cut out sections to allow air to circulate around the bottom of your laptop and thus by enabling your laptop to stay cooler and avoid it overheating. It comes with instructions on how to adjust the height, and what heights are suitable for whichever situation you may be in. However I just picked the height I found the most comfortable for me. After all, each person is different and we all have our own individual likes & dislikes, so why should adjusting the height of the stand always be set to whatever the manufacturer thinkss is most suitable. Just adjust it to suit yourself and if it doesn't feel right after trying it for a while, there's absolutely nothing to stop you readjusting it. Is there? It's quite sturdy once set to your chosen height, but to be on the safe side, just make sure if you're using it on a slippery/shiny surface to have a mat or something under it to stop the stand from slipping. The stand has little rubber pads on the front feet which hold it steady enough, but the rubber strip on the back underneath side of the stand isn't so great and the stand will tend to slip if it isn't placed on a mat of some sort.So to sum up, I like this stand and the price is acceptable.

For this kind of money you wouldnot expect an excellent quality piece of equipment but Kensington have worked hard in developing this product and it really shows in its ease of use.It may cost only a few pounds but it feels very well made and should last many years and should be suitable for the majority of laptops in use today.I have seen several laptop stands made of plastic that are so flimsy that they wobble when you place your computer on them.Even though this Easy rider is made of plastic its of excellent quality a quality that could easily command a higher price. It has four separate level settings depending on how you like to view your computer and is held together by a control knob onthe side which operates in a positive manner.Having nearly bought several similarly priced stands this Kensington certainly does not feel poorly made infact the plastic is very high quality indeed.Even the rubber supports have a quality feel about them.If like me you were searching for a good value no frills stand that if treated carefully will last many years then here it is.A real nice touch is that the support leg folds flat into the main stand to leave a totally flat package for easy transport. There can be few products as affordable as this stand that really improve the cooling of your laptop. You only have to realise how hot a laptop can become if left on a flat surface for hours on end.Using this Kensington stand will allow the warm air to circulate and effectively reduce the build up of heat from your computer.Buy this stand with confidence you will certainly not be disappointed I wasnt and at this price its excellent value aswell.

I purchased the `Kensington Easer Riser' after looking at the various options on the market having suffered constant neck & shoulder ache after several years of laptop use. This product is foldable (so will fit in most laptop bags), is sturdy and is an open frame box design which leaves room for the fan to work properly (especially) if your fan is situated under your laptop (this will stop your processor overheating, speed up your machine and prolong its life!)The riser has good rubber feet, rubber support (to sit your laptop on) and a rubberised lip at the front to stop your laptop falling off!A supplied instruction sheet gives indications of how high to set the riser.GOOD Design Points:-- TheLip at the front is lower in the middle (allowing for plugs to be attached to the front of your laptop for headphones etc)- There is a `twist knob' at the right hand side of the unit to lock into place the riser into one of 4 height settings:- 4.5", 6", 7" and 7.75".- Good access for under laptop fans- a SIMPLE screw knob at the right hand side to adjust the height settingsPOINTS to NOTE:-The first height setting of 4.5" is `quite high' - your laptop Lid will need to open 135 degrees (halfway between upright and fully flat open) for this first setting. The higher setting will require the lid to be opened progressively wider - towards opening flat for the highest setting. My Laptop (an HP) only opens wide enough to use the 1st height setting - but this is more than adequate for me. Also bear in mind that your keyboard will become quite upright on the highest settings.Overall, a great product - well worth your consideration!

Soon after requesting this product, but before it arrived, I was wondering whether I really wanted/needed it, because my impulse click thought that this might incorporate some sort of fan cooling and I didn't really want to use it with an external keyboard and mouse as recommended as I have a desktop computer too.But as soon as I employed it, I was won over. The Smart Fit system seems to be spot on, at least in regards to myself. You just place your hand on the included chart and lock the stand at the angle of the colour code.I think I may have used this in a quite unintended way, but that shows that it's not just useful as a way to make a laptop feel more like a desktop at a workstation.Iplaced the riser on my bed and didn't use external peripherals with both my 13" MacBook and a 15.6" ASUS. In both cases, the laptops remained sturdy on the stand thanks to the rubber cushioning, and they didn't topple over even with a lot of use on an uneven surface.Using my laptops with a chair facing the mattress, I found using both as comfortable as my desktop as I had got them at a good eye level. And the raise in the keyboard and trackpad made them more comfortable to use. In fact, while it's slightly bulky to be carrying around, it could make working on, say a train, more comfortable. You're not paying much, and material-wise, you really shouldn't be. But it's durable and does the job, and your back and hands will thank you for it.Finally, in regards to cooling, just the fact that it has a hollow is probably good enough for most work scenarios. You probably only really need fans for gaming or video editing.

This a nice little stand to elevate the Laptop screen for easier viewing. The stand has has 4 preset angles which will elevate the screen at different heights depending on the angle of the stand. There is a knob to tighten the frame to the desired angle. just make sure you do tighten it and not be fooled by the locating notches to secure the position.I ignored the "Smart fit" recommendations because there are too many other variable which come together to determine the appropriate angle and height of the laptop screen. desk height, laptop size, seating position torso length and so on.the construction of the stand is well thought out although not necessarily suited to all laptops.on the plus side; The unit folds flat for easy storage and transportation. When in use the stand has little rubberized feet to aid stability. There are rubberized inlays on the main support surface and a rubberized lip at the base of the stand to reduce the risk of your precious laptop sliding off. These work up to a point.Due to the curve and diminishing surface area of the lip and depending on the front edge profile of your laptop. There may not be a substantial amount of contact area between the lip and the laptop edge. a slight knock of the desk or the laptop could jog it loose from the stand which may lead to some expensive repairs.Does it matter what it looks Like? No when in use you don't see it and you just care that it functions reliably.Overall: a good product but just make sure it is a good fit for both you and your laptop.

The coolest thing about this laptop riser isn't that it can come QI wireless enabled. Nor is it the cable management system under the upper deck, or the fact that you can strap a docking station under the top.No, to me it's coolest feature is how portable it is.It really is grab and go. If you're working on a laptop, you really need an external screen. And if you haven't got one of those, or you need to move around at home or at work, then the Kensington Laptop Riser is perfect. It's really sturdy but also really, really light. So you can just grab it and move from the kitchen to the living room, or the living room to the conservatory.Add a wireless keyboard and mouse into the mix and you're good to go.The height-adjustable legs secure easily with two easy-grab screws, so you can choose the right height for you out of four available settings. If you need help with that, Kensington's SmartFit sizing guide makes it easy for you.The rubber pads on the base stop and sliding, and the base is great for dumping your mobile. If your mobile phone support QI Wireless Charging, you're in for a treat, your phone will charge wirelessly on the bottom tray, so long as the tray is plugged into the supplied micro-usb charger. Finally, if you work in an open office, you can take advantage of the Kensington security slot to lock it down with a compatible cable. It could do with being a little higher if you're really tall and there's some wobble if your desk wobbles, but apart from that I like it a lot.

This is reasonably quick to assemble with a screwdriver. The height is adjustable to four different settings - the instruction booklet includes a colour coded sizing guide on which you place your hand, which is supposed to indicate how to adjust the height. Although it worked for me I'm not convinced that this would work in general. I would have thought that adjusting your chair correctly would be the first point of call, then adjusting this riser accordingly so that when looking straight ahead you are looking near the top of the screen, which will in itself depend on your desk height. It is not intended that you would type on the laptop in this riser, and if you do it wobbles about a bit - you are expected to attach an external keyboard. I would have preferred it if the base with the Qi charger did not extend forward so much so that I could push my external keyboard a bit further away from me (though if that had been the case it may well be less stable).Whilst this riser does the job it seems rather expensive for what it is. This is the variant with the built-in Qi charger, but the version without is fifty quid for what is effectively just a couple of pieces of plastic joined via two strips of metal. And an extra fifty for a phone charger seems rather steep too.

Well I felt I should write a review of this stand given the fact that I just purchased a second one, my first Kensington stand was used with my old laptop and it did a great job at keeping the laptop cool and setting it at a good viewing height,But this review is about my latest purchase of my second Kensington stand, which I use for my intuos 4 graphic tablets, I use the intuos 4 large and the intuos 4 medium graphic tablets for my digital artwork.this stand is brilliant for graphic tablets I know it’s designed for laptops but given the intuos 4 has express keys on one side placing any graphic tablet on the stand raises the tablet to a good working angle, also allowing you to slide your left hand up and down the side of the tablet and have easy selection of the express keys.it is a must have stand for any graphic tablet, and I am over the moon with the Kensington stand because its fully adjustable allowing me the ability to set the angle of the graphic tablet for comfortable use of the express keys and the tablet for drawing on so if you use a graphic tablet that’s medium or large as I show in my photos then get yourself one of these stands, your be so happy you did these stands are winners all the way.

I saw this and thought, Hmm, I'm not sure, but I like the thought of it. I invariably put things on top of my laptop, mugs, cereal bowls, biscuits etc Open or closed. now I can't do that; and that is a good thing (!)This comes with a palm print of differing colours and sizes (I forgot to take a pic of it). You measure your hand on it and then set the angle of the stand accordingly (see pic 4).Once this is set and locked, you put your laptop on it, and away you go. The stand does not slip or slide, and seems to be very sturdy and strong. I can plug in my speakers or mic still (pic 2), and there is room for all the USB ports. The laptop does not heat up as much,as there is a lot more room for air to circulate underneath.I find that the keyboard is more accessible using the stand. I have a separate USB keyboard (that I am using now), but I find that I'm happier to use the laptop keyboard more often. Even the mousepad has been used more in the last few weeks.I like the screen higher up - more at head height - and I have less neck stress. I can see me using this for a long time. I'm not going to move it. It is not a fad. It really is something that is useful and I would recommend it to anyone.
