From the outside, the Jack Wolfskin coat doesn't look particularly special, rather just like an ordinary quilted coat. But once I put it on, I immediately fell in love with it. It is extremely comfortable without being overly heavy. Yet it's also incredibly warm, again without being overly hot or heavy. In terms of sizing, at the time of writing this review I am 5' 4 1/2" tall and weigh about 140 pounds. I normally wear and had requested the Large, but got shipped an Extra Large. While the Extra Large was a little roomy, it did not seem overly big, and I consider the roominess a positive feature. I'll be wearing this mainly on very cold (sub-40 degree) days, and this coat--unlike other quilted jackets I own--will fit easily over long-sleeved bulky sweaters. In short, if you're between sizes, I'd suggest ordering up.I like the design of this coat a lot. It's got two side pockets with zipper closures. The insides of the pockets are lined not with the shiny, smooth polyester fabric that makes up the exterior but rather with a very soft, flannel-like fabric that is super warm and comfortable. The sleeves contain two hidden cuffs made of the same soft material that serve to prevent cold breezes or snow from going up your sleeves. There's also an smaller interior chest pocket that's perfect for stashing a cell phone. The main zipper is a YKK product, a brand well-known for their sturdiness and reliability. The hood is not detachable, but it doesn't feel bulky or in the way if you're wearing the coat with it down, and when raised, it's gathered slightly so that it does a good job fitting closely around your head--it will keep the cold air out and not keep falling off. I also like that there is a large loop on the inside of the collar so that you can hang it on a hook or coat tree easily without stretching the fabric. (Why every sweater or coat doesn't have such a loop is a mystery I don't understand, but I digress.)This is a long coat that hangs well below the butt and hits just above the knees. This is another design feature I admire greatly: If it's so cold out that I need the warmth of an insulated jacket like this, I'm going to want my rear end/thighs to be kept warm, too. The length of this coat makes it much more practical for severe weather than other quilted jackets that only reach to hip level. The exterior shell is made of a fabric that is both breathable but also has a 20 mm waterproof rating. If you're out in a light shower, the water will bead up and roll off. The product description states that it is also windproof. I haven't had this out in a bad enough storm to test that claim, but I can vouch that it insulates very, very well without the wearer becoming uncomfortably overheated and sweaty while it's on.Even better, this coat is machine washable. :) Last but not least, if environmental concerns matter to you, this coat is part of the Jack Wolfskin "sustainable apparel" line, meaning that it is made of 100% recycled fibers. It was clear from the product description that this company takes its commitment to the environment seriously, and I admire that.In sum, I had never heard of this brand before, but after wearing this coat a few times, I know I already like it better than my North Face jacket. I'm happy to recommend it enthusiastically.

Let me start by saying that I live in New York City, which is located on the edge of the Atlantic ocean and our winters can sometimes be brutal. And so I am in possession of various winter coats and have become sort of an authority on cold weather clothing (75% or more wool socks are a must, as well as 100% merino wool base-layers).I am all for saving the environment and this jacket is great for having a 100% recycled membrane, a 100% recycled outer material and a 100% recycled lining. But that means the manufacturer paid less for materials and I should have given it a lower price point. The list price on this coat (as of Nov 27,2018) is $199 -- too much for synthetic insulation. But,that doesn't mean it's a bad jacket to wear when it's cold out. Here is what you get;- A lightweight but warm hooded jacket. The length is long so it will keep your thighs warm as well as your upper body.- a few little touches that are nice, such as fleece on the inside of the zipper where it makes contact with your lips, fleece-lined pockets, fleece around the wrists, and a fleece lined collar. Most hooded-jackets will not include a collar, so this is a definite plus.- No down inside means you wont have little feathers poking out and getting on your clothing.- There is an small inside pocket which is just the right size to hold a phone but no zipper on it. The outside pockets do have zippers.- The main zipper consists of two zipper-heads which comes in handy so that you can unzip from the bottom-up when sitting down without having to fully unzip. All these combine to to make for a great jacket if you don't mind the price.BTW... chek every color, some colors may be discounted ;-)

Looking for a replacement for my old JW Iceguard, I've tried out a small number of JW coats over the last month... and eventually chose this one, after a lot of thoughts of returning it...my personal niggles* quality isn't anywhere close to old JW Iceguards; but having tried out various current models, including more expensive ones I had to accept that this is what JW seems to do right now, at least in the price range that I can afford* not quite warm enough for my taste* not quite long enough for my taste* cheap fleece along neckline and at wrists - the stuff at the wrists can be cut, which I'm going to do; I'm all for something to keep the cold out where the coat ends, but can't bear cheap fleece - it's bad for long hair, and at my wrist it feels too hot and tight* cut/shape is tight around the bottomwhy I still decided to keep it, and hope it'll do as winter coat* overall the cut fitted me better than all other JW models I tried* the zipper seemed better quality, or just less problematic than with all other JW models I tried* the length of this model felt more comfi to me (a bit longer)* I'm ok with layering up underneath to be warmer when that's needed

I wear a size 10 and the large fits me snug. It’s a fitted coat that is all about heat and at first I didn’t know if I’d be able to zip it! Thankfully it fits perfect but if I were any bigger it would not fit as the zipper and length goes to my thigh and YES I HAVD WIDE HIPS. But once you’re snug inside this jacket it feels amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a warm jacket, not even my NorthFace. The pockets are amazing with zipper closure and a soft fabric inside that keeps your hands extra warm. Overall, this is a wonderful warm coat that is designed with cozy comfort in mind. It’s attractive and well made as well.

When I first picked up the box for this coat I thought that maybe I had ordered a size too small or something as the package was extremely lightweight. Once I got it unpacked it was much larger than the weight would have implied though. Still, I was a bit skeptical about how warm this thing could be for being so light. It didn't take long to find out.Suffice to say, this coat has exceeded all of my expectations when it comes to keeping me warm. The weight to warmth ratio is really off the charts and I still have a hard time believing that this thing weighs so little. I would definitely recommend.

I‘ve used this coat during an almost month-long trip to Southern Europe and it’s been nearly perfect: lightweight, non-bulky, elegant lines and it gives very good protection against not too harsh but quite humid and windy winters. I was always warm while wearing it. Sizing is good (I am a size 8 and this fits nicely, not too snug: leaves some room for a wearing a sweater underneath). Pockets are good sized. The hood fits snugly and keeps your head warm, same for the high neck. The only reason why I’m not giving it fiv stars is because the main zipper got stuck a few times and it was annoying.

I researched coats a lot prior to purchasing this one. This coat is very comfortable and warm. The pockets are lined, so they are also nice and warm. Love the longer length and the fact that you can up-zip from the bottom up to sit in the car more comfortably. I also love that the wrist material is cozy and snug. I have not had to wear in really really cold weather yet, but I think w/ a sweater under it, I should be fine. I like the fact there is a hood just incase it is needed.

I shamelessly used my daughter as a guinea pig, sending her off to work in frigid weather to test the coat. She loves it. The wind and cold can't penetrate the coat. There are ample pockets. She is comfortable no matter what the weather.Although she is not large, the large size fits very well. Her only suggestion is wearing a textured or fuzzy garment under the coat since the lining is smooth and slippery and having two such surfaces together makes for too much slippery-ness.

Jack wolfskin is my brand! This is my 5th jack wolfskin coat. It’s Light weight, waist cut, sewn extremely well, beautiful design, holds up in wash, zipper opens from bottom to free legs for movement, washes well.. size xxl is like an US 18, bra size is 36 and i am heavy busted, my waist is 36” and this fits with enough room for a heavy thick sweatshirt, i could have sized down but I wanted lots of room. XL is a 14-16 waist

Love this coat. Very lightweight yet extremely warm (and I am one of those who never have enough layers to keep them warm!!). True to size. The burgundy colour is a nice change from navy and black, yet versatile enough to wear with lots of different things. The overall fit is very flattering and stylish too. Not made with down but with recyclable material, so easy to wash and equally warm. Would definitely recommend.

The Jack Wolfskin Women's Maryland Windproof Insulated Long Jacket is my go to jacket this winter season. It fits true to size and allows for extra room for a bulky sweater. Very well made and worth the price as this jacket will last you for a very long time. Plenty of pockets for placing your phone, wallet or keys while you run out to go for errands. Lightweight but keeps you warm.

Love this coat. I'm a short size 18 so always struggle with puffa style as they make me look very round.I needed a warm coat for football and have always been jealous of my friends Jack Wolfskin.I have found the sizing quite big. This is quite good for me as I can layer up when it's cold.Really good deep pockets. It was a bit of a treat but really worth it.

Great colour and very warm winter coat. I’m a 14-16 and bought the Xl gives me extra room to put a fleece underneath when it’s freezing. I could have got away with the next size down but then I wouldn’t have had that option. Fleece lining on the cuffs, good shaping at the waist, buttons up to neck with a neat fitting hood. All in all I’m really happy with it.

This is my favorite winter coat — ever. It is warm, not bulky at all, super comfortable, totally practical (think large pockets that zip) and it is also rather stylish. Plus, it is cruelty free!!! Truthfully, I’m going to keep wearing this through the wet weather, too. I hope it lasts forever, so far, so good!

This is an excellent cold-weather jacket that not only keeps the weather out, it look really nice! It's flattering, with good coverage past the hips, comfortable hood, and long-enough sleeves. Highly recommended!
