I really didn't consider Huawei as a serious contender for tablets HOWEVER, you can colour me impressed for what you're getting at this price point. I really do feel as if this was made by the likes of Apple. No one (i feel) has made this much of an effort to go up against the iPad Mini for a while, but this little guy I can confidently say holds his own against it's IOS rival and some.ProsExcellent build quality - Classy brushed aluminium body & toughened all glass front.Beautiful screen. 2K Resolution and well balanced colours.Lightning quick fingerprint sensorGreat all day battery Life and Quick Charge support.Expandable memoryImmersive quad speaker setup and is loud enough without distorting the sound.External accessory compatibility via USB C to USB A adaptors.Keyboards, mice, USB sticks etc.ConsMediocre camera qualityNo headphone jack (adaptor supplied in box)Uninspiring user interface (simple features like transferring apps from internal memory to SD card isn't present. Hopefully Huawei rectify this in a software update.)This really is a great little tablet. It isn't the latest on the scene and yet despite running on yesteryear's hardware, it's still very much a viable and compelling option in 2019. Perhaps it's spec is all the more reason to purchase at its current price point (£249 in May 2019).Me personally I'm an intermediate to heavy-ish user and this little thing can handle whatever I can throw at it. Gaming, multitasking and watching videos is light work for this little tablet. It's a sheer joy to use. It does what I want it to efficiently, it's highly adaptable and the user experience is great once you tinker around with it. It's perfect for exactly what i use it for. I've got high end bluetooth headphones so i'm not worried about the headphone jack. The sound quality it pumps out for a decent set bluetooth headphones is VERY Good!Purchasing this tablet I would say is a no-brainer. It was an easy decision for me. If you're not an apple fan or considering to moving to the android platform you will not be disappointed!

I'm happy to say the Huawei M5 8.4" tablet is a great upgrade over my 2013 Nexus 7. It has a beautiful hi-res display, a fast processor, expandable storage, incredibly good sound and the battery life is pretty good too! It supports Qualcomm's QuickCharge 3.0 standard for fast charging. The fingerprint reader is quite fast and versatile; as well as unlocking the tablet, it can be used to replace virtual/soft buttons for navigating the UI.A word or two on storage, the tablet features 'native FBE' (file based encryption), as such the SD card cannot be used as 'adoptable storage' i.e. it cannot be formatted / used as Internal memory.I deduct one star for this as I know other Android 8 Oreo devices are capable of supporting adoptable storage just fine. While I was initially disappointed to learn this, in practice most of the apps I've installed (mainly games) have used the SD card for installing most of their assets, such that only a minor amount of internal storage is actually required. Consequently, even after installing around 30-40 apps and a further 30-40 games I still have near enough 15Gb internal memory free, while my 128GB SD card has around 110 GB free. Hope that helps assuage any concerns you might have about storage.Out-of-the-box the UI is a little confusing if you're coming from another Android tablet as it's setup to work more more like an Apple device, this can easily be changed from the settings. Nevertheless I still found myself installing 'Nova Launcher' which imho is a bit more aesthetically appealing and familiar to me.It's not important enough to merit removing another star, but the lack of a dedicated headphone jack is a little bit of a nuisance as you need to use the provided, somewhat flimsy-looking, USB-C to jack converter.Overall this tablet has very much to recommend, particularly considering it's price.

I had previously bought a Huawei flagship phone and was very impressed with the build quality and spec level. So when my Samsung Galaxy Note finally got so slow I wanted to break it I went straight for Huawei. The M5 8 is an excellent tablet and so fast. When powered off, the time from pressing the power button to using it is 18 seconds. That is quick.SCREEN Good bright screen Very clear and sharp.SOUND Very good sound for a tablet Very good volume!STORAGE Very good 32gb and micro SD slot too!STREAMING Fast and stable.DESIGN / BUILD Way beyond anything I've seen from samsung.. Solid machined metal and glass. Premium feel.CONNECTIVITY USB C is great. No headphone socket but USB C adapter works fine or Bluetooth headphones.I have had mine over a month and I am a heavy user, as I work on it. It is a great companion. The 10 inch would be too heavy for my usage hence the 8. I previously had a 10 but it kills your hands. In my opinion, it is a great powerful tablet.PS get a genuine Huawei case they are the best if hard to get...

These days small tablets have fallen out of fashion, so it's hard to find a new model, with a good screen quality, reasonable performance and from a know brand. Huawei MediaPad 8" has all these qualities. The fingerprint reader is very responsive and useful to quickly unlock the tablet. There are several small downsides:- modest storage space (32GB) - I was unable to find the 64GB or 128GB models in Europe- slippery back panel (a cover is a must in order to have a good grip)- no audio jack (even is a USB TypeC adapter is included)- no NFC- a stock Android experience/UI/launcher would be better, fortunately the Huawei one can be customized in order to have something decent, and most useless apps can be uninstalled- Huawei for some strange reason do not sell this model in some EU countries (like Romania), so the service under warranty will be cumbersome here

I bought the Huawei M5 8.4" from Amazon.com(had gift vouchers to use). It was shipped to the UK within a few weeks. One for me. One for my dad. One benefit of buying from the USA is that we got the larger 64GB version. At the time, the larger 10.8" version was only available if I upgraded to the pro version, so I opted for the 8.4" version. It's a good size.I've found myself using it every day. The speakers are good, battery life is good, and the cameras are great in the daytime (at night they struggle).Performance is impressive too. It never feels sluggish and Huawei have updated the software with a bug fix already. There aren't too many premium Android tablets on the market today and I think the M5 is one of the best. It's a powerful tablet at a fair price.Check out my video to learn more and be sure to ask me any questions you have :)

A few years ago my samsung tab s 8.4 screen died.It used to be the go to device for everything. However i purchased the huawei mediapad m510.8..Didnt hear about this 8.4 model and i compared n did a bit research tab s 8.4 vs mediapad m5 8.4...Wow same ppi 359 yes this isn't amoled however can i say this tablet has blown me away. Does it live up to the tab s no it doesn't the mediapad m5 8.4 absolutely surpasses every expectation. This 8.4 sized tablet hits the sweet spot for browsing it isn't heavy in the hand in fact its so slim and light u will have to get a case.It takes something spectacular to enthuse this grumpy old geezer and I have been bowled over.I recommend this beast without even having to think.Had it since December 14th and it hasn't let me down once. As only my second android tablet (first being a newly unlocked Nook HD, many years ago), I had low expectations.I got this tablet in the amazon prime sale for £214. Much cheaper than my next choice of the galaxy tab s2.Performance and user experience is great (though I don't play any AA FPS games, mostly plants vs zombies 2).audio is better than I expected, nice and rich.I have not experienced any crashes or reset-requiring problems.Only real downside is the backlight bleed in the dark; even on lowest brightness setting, anything with black background (kindle app in black background mode, netflix in dark scenes) is a glowing grey colour.guess that's where the discount comes from; not having the S2s OLED screenstill, for that money, it's VERY good :)

Received and I can say this tablet is outstanding. Fantastic screen crisp and vibrant colours pop even for a LCD screen. It is silky smooth too with the 4gb ram onboard and the Kirin 960 CPU excellent makes using the mediapad M5 a pleasure. Now the sound quality from the 8.4 version is fantastic too love it a hint of bass and surround sound to it. Front and back camera excellent, build quilty excellent and battery lasts a whole 11 hours surfing the web and watching youtube I'm very very impressed. Overall excellent alternative to the iPad mini as you will not be disappointed, only gripe I have with it but not a deal breaker for me is no headphone jack but comes with small dongle but still anoutstanding purchase.

This tablet is exactly what I was looking for, able to play some games and able to react quickly even with several applications opened. The sound is great, what you would expect, without noises from the speakers. No minijack for headphones tho, but Bluetooth ones work wonders.I loved the feeling touching this tablet. Firm, robust and smooth, without those weird sounds some others tablets do when you grab them by the frame. Besides, the battery management is just amazing, if you do not use it, it pretty much doesn't waste any battery, and if you play some games, it will last like 5-6 hours nonstop. For me, after trying some, this one was really worth it.

This replaced an old nexus 7 which is still going but was starting to misbehave, it does what I needed it for I use it for filling the gap when I don't want to carry the laptop, it is also handy for reading and operating the smart apps, battery life is a little erratic sometimes it lasts really well other times it drains 70% over night can not seem to see why, it's no real hardship it charges fast via the type c cable, the screen is really good quality being high res and it is generally pretty quick opening the apps, all in all I am happy with it.

Excellent tablet for the £200 price tag.Has nice size of 8.4 inches.Nice solid metal build quality with a vibrant screen, doesn't stutter or lag in any apps and plays games well such as PubG, Fortnite and Xcom, but I mainly use it for media playback.Watching YouTube and browsing the battery lasts around 7-8 hours and watching just movies from an SD card gives around 10-11 hours run time.Sounds great, very loud.Running latest Android 9 with nova launcher and have no problems.Feels as good as my old galaxy tab S3 if not quicker.

This is a brilliant tablet. Hi-res screen, very good processor, decent amount of RAM, great battery life, amazing speakers for a tablet and it's on one of the later versions of Android (most tablets aren't). Perfect size to carry about, watch movies, etc. It also handles fairly demanding games very well (like PUBG mobile).Only minor complaint would be the lack of 3.5mm headphone jack, however you get a USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor in the box.

So far very good product, display is absolutely stunning. Able to handle everything that's been thrown at it. This does indeed play full HD (1080p) netlifx and Amazon prime. Those are the two services I use which is excellent, I believe the users that may have said it doesn't before may need to update their tablet for this. Everything works the way it should, definitely worth the money and the best media tablet around now.

13.1.2019

A star product purchased for 230. Very simplistic to use for the basic user and also many features for the more advanced user. I can honestly say there isn't a tablet in this price range with this quality. Battery life is brilliant sound quality brilliant processing performance is top notch. Won't outdate like Apple products and will easily last for years with the high quality materials used to build it.

16.12.2019

This is a fast product and very nice to use, the only dissapointment is that whilst it supports a memory card, it does not support a phone sim as it is meant to. It is clearly advertised as a phone support device but comes with a sim tray that only takes a memory card. That's a bit of a disappointment as you may as well buy the wifi only device unless you need the GPS and save a ton of money.
