Can barely believe a printer with its capabilities costs what it does. Not long ago this sort of thing would have easily cost several hundred £.Duplex printing and scanning (even scans up to A3 on the glass), very fast for an inkjet, impressive touchscreen menu system, all the connected services you could ever really want or ask for....it's early days but seems to be very little to dislike about it.Possibly the only downsides.....It's HUGE.....it's basically an A3 capable workgroup printer hence it's size.....my office isn't very big and it takes up alot of space. If using A3 then one of the trays will jut out of the front of the unit, not a deal-breaker and I knew about this before buying but it might not suit some.To be fair if it were to support flush fitting A3 paper trays it would be even larger so arguably just as well!!Thankfully I won't be funding it but ink costs don't seem that great. I expect it won't work wonderfully with non-genuine cartridges...if you want long ink life you probably will plump for the XL cartridges and a pack of XL cartridges is about the same price as the printer..typically.One thing people need to be aware of is that this printer has a dedicated printhead, which is a replacement part of its own and not integrated into each ink cartridge as is often the case now with inkjet printers. In a sense it's a good thing as it probably offers better quality printing and a more reliable ink delivery system....but if it fails whilst replaceable like the ink itself the printhead unit is very expensive and for most would probably result in writing off the printer. As it stands I reckon it is probably the best value A3 multifunction period, particularly if you want something that can deal with a bit more sustained use than a cheapo stationers special.

Purchased through Amazon as delivery from HP was slower and I was in a rush. It's marginally lower cost directly from HP.This is a very large printer compared to A4 format ones. It should be noted that the dimensions given assume that tray 2 has A4 paper in it. If you add A3 paper then tray 2 sticks out an additional 7cm.HP interface is pretty much standard across all models. It's okay but is a little slow to load.Quality and speed of prints is okay.Scan quality is okay but higher resolutions are only available if you save in .pdf (which is a bit odd).Paper handling could be better. The printer struggles to pick up heavy or glossy papers. On the A4 tray anything over 150gsm will be a problem.Similar issues occur when using heavier A3 papers. End result is you end up faffing around a lot to get the paper to feed. If encountering this with A4 try feeding just one sheet and bowing the paper slightly using the tray paper end stop.On A3 feeding is just as tricky with heavy papers and here I found it best to have a low gsm paper below the higher quality paper then, as the sheet is grabbed by the printer, physically hold the lower low gsm sheet back using your fingers (the lower tray sticks out and you can leave the flap up to allow access).Overall an okay printer but it does have its limitations with regards to paper handling.

As I am a proper man I set this printer up without referring to the manual at all, and so far everything is okay. The ink cartridges don’t have a nice positive click when you load them in and a few times I found the spring loading mechanism “fling” them back out, but worked it out.Set up was very straightforward. So far it’s wired into my Draytek/3Com network, printing was over my separate Unify WAPs from an iPad Pro. I already had HP Smart installed on the iPad because we’ve already got an HP Laserjet on the network. The only real problem so far is that for a nice chunky, sleak piece of kit the paper tray sticks out if you want to load A3 into it. Which is really weird, it’s like it’s an after thought.I’ve not looked for or used any manual paper tray (which, quite frankly are a pain in the bum anyway) - but having the paper tray permenantly stuck out is just a bit strange - hence I had to drop a star, sorry HP.This printer replaces our old HP A4 7280 which was a loyal, robust printer which we’ve used for 5yrs - so the 7740 does have some big boots to fill. It will also operate alongside our little high volume B&W HP laserjet.I promise, I’ll be back in six months to provide a review update.

Thankfully the description provided for the 7740 is considerably more accurate than with the 7730 . The 7740 WILL Scan/Copy/Print in DUPLEX whereas the 7730 implies it will but won't! (It will only print in Duplex - not Scan/Copy.) The 7740 scans and prints up to A3 on a single sheet basis using the flatbed, but has the powerful additional facility of the Auto Document Feeder to Scan/Copy/Print up to 35 sheets of A4, on BOTH SIDES in Duplex mode! The printer utilises a FOUR cartridge print system, so should minimise wastage, although I found the print colour a tad light for my preferences. Presumably preset for economical usage.I found the most difficult aspect was the control screen which is far too small for anyone like me with big fingers and relatively poor eyesight!! Definitely not a plus feature! A full user guide would be helpful as the software appears disjointed, without any logical path to follow. Options are provided but they are short on explanations as to why this or that. However, instead of just rambling on, let it be said that the 'pros' seem to out-way the 'cons'. A capable BIG printer.

The printer is large we expected that.. But what we didn't expect was for the second tray containing A3 paper to stick out a good 2 inches from the unit. The setup was fairly easy and for the tricky bits there are some you tube videos to help. From office programs you can choose the size of your paper and which tray to use. From my iPad if I choose A3 paper it defaults to the a4 tray. So Hp after all of your years of experience you haven't sent a programme line which says if A3 size is chosen go to tray 2! I got round this by manually changing the default tray on the unit in order to print. A photo in A3 but it is a long winded way of doing things. There is also no separate tray for envelopes and smaller photo paper, now I had this in a printer over ten years ago, it will take more time adjusting trays and sizes of paper and envelopes being changed in trays than I had expected from an office machine. And it should show the A3 tray sticking out of the printer, with A3 paper iA bit of an omission on the part of Hp. Other than that it prints fine.

I purchased the printer to replace our ageing J4680 which had finally given up the ghost. Its a big printer, but is fast, and I like the large scanning area, which means I can get a lot more expense receipts into one scan. Its fast, and its also been easy to connect to all our devices, including tablets and mobile phones. One thing we suffered from was the printer refused to accept the cartridge initially, this seems to be a problem reported by other people fortunately. You have to loosen the actual printer head, and re seat it. As either in transit or in the factory, it shift and ceases to work properly. Not a difficult thing to fix. But there's nothing about this in the initial set up for the printer.I only knew about this, as I'd seen it in someone else's review, and needed to find the instructions to fix the problem online. Would be good if they added this procedure to the initial set up manual, as I can guarantee someones going to assume the printer is actual DOA.

Very large and heavy. Ridiculously good value, and you seem to get a normal set if ink cartridges not the 'starter set' that I know Canon gives (but to be honest haven't printed enough to know yet). Of course the price is subsidised - it must costs HP more than twice this price to make the device. You pay (and HP make their money) from the ink refills which must cost them pence, but cost you £85 for a set (it'll even be around £50 for re-manufactured ones, but I've not had good experience with those).I wanted this for A3 printing. It has two trays both of which take A4 or A3. Does scanning and also photocopiying. I connected using only WiFi to my network, as I have no LAN connection in the room, but it works fine. Can print from iPad perfectly also, which is a bonus. Quality on plain paper is excellent.

Does what it says it will. ADF very efficient and invaluable for multi duplex copy/scan/print. Worked faultlessly on a 35 page double sided A4 scan project. Particularly liked the fast 'single pass' facility for duplex operation. No longer have to wait while the ADF scans both sides of each page separately. Print quality seems to be fine in both document and photo modes. The twin paper tray system works just fine, although I haven't tried it with A3 paper so far. However, on the negative side, the very small 'control' panel is incredibly fiddly to use and is a retrograde step in my view. Far happier with the 'old fashioned'LCD screen with separate button panel as fitted on some previous printers.

i now have 3 of these hp7740 printers 1 brand new, 1 is 8 months old and 1 is 2years old. they are a bit heavy on ink but on the oldest one i am using non hp cartridges after an assurance from hp that my version of firmare would allow it. however i am now getting a new message which tells me that the printer rejects these cartridges and tells me that i am using ciss cartridges when i am not. they work at first and then show the ciss message. after a time i get the same message when i am using genuine hp cartridges. it happens when the carts are getting low but before they are empty. perhaps hp may have some idea on the ciss issue. i hope the new one does go the same way.

I've used HP printers for many years and this one is the easiest to set up yet. In the past HP printers have always needed a call to the help line to get them running, even the Office Jet Pro 8615 which I still have needed a bit of setting up to get the wifi connection working. I bought the 7740 as I needed a A3 printer which could scan A3 as well and the set up was easy. Turn it on, put in the inks, enter your wifi password and you're set. Prints from my Mac, Windows laptop and phone with no problems. If I was to be picky, I would say that the 8615 has a very slightly better print quality on standard settings but I haven't tried it on photo quality settings yet.

I have 5 HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printers. All in all they are great products. The print quality is good, the ink consumption is ok, and is very fast at copying and scanning .My only complaint is the scan to email feature. My old HP OfficeJet 7612 had a direct scan to email. This one only has it in thru HP Apps, which means that it uses HP servers to perform the job. The steps to choose the recipients and scan are very slow and worst, half of the times there is a fatal error, the printer can't comunicate with HP servers and the scan is not sent. The old HP 7612 were flawless, but it wasn't any App, it was direct from the printer's home screen.

Very good product which i have now installed at 3 business customer sites.Offers A3 and A4 prints. High Quality Print (depending on grade of paper. Very Important). Reasonable printing costs. Easy to maintain. Low purchase cost. Lot of kit for the RRP price.Only thing that lets the product down is the applications. we had issues with scanning so had to switch to the windows 10 apps. Then they stopped working so we uninstalled all and restarted again. we still to this date and bug issues where the scanner fails to initialise in one app and we have to switch to the other for this to work.. otherwise a great printer for the price.

Fantastic service - delivered within 24 hours of ordering.Easy to set-up for printing but you have to work a bit harder to get scanning to work.Lacks a few features:- There are 2 paper tray but you can only use one tray per job. Why? This is crazy the paper size should be dictated by the document to be printed not by the printer staying with the paper size of the first sheet.- Why is the ADF only capable of handling A4 paper when the scanner can handle A3?- The scanner software is rather limiting and I am sure that it does not allow the full capability of the hardware to be exploited.

Really stunning value here. I bought it to print A3 music, so can't comment on quality on photo paper, but it takes high grade paper very will and prints A3 phenomenally quickly, and easily handles double sided A3 and A4. I'm sure the ink cartridge prices will make up for the low initial cost of the printer, and as other reviews state the tray sticks out further than shown in the picture when loaded with A3 paper - but that doesn't affect the review based on the quality of the printer, in my opinion.Very easy setup for wifi printing as well.

This is the 2nd HP 7740 I have purchased for business use. For the price it is excellent value, with 2 document trays which will take up to A3 size paper. No more feeding individual A3 paper into the rear document feed - usually only to get scrunched-up and having to dismantle the printer! The print quality is very good but it can drink ink on the best quality. Copying single sheets via the automatic document feeder onto double sided paper is amazing but does take a little working out. An all round good robust printer.
