Update 27th June 2016:I'm concerned that if you read only part of the review below, which I wrote within a day or so of getting this printer, you may think I have reservations.I don't. For me this printer is really excellent. Once I'd got over my network problem (see below) it's worked 100% perfectly since, for both printing and scanning, via wifi. It sits on a shelf in my office, where it doesn't clutter my desk and doesn't require cables trailing from my computer. It looks neat and just works - every time. I'm really impressed with it and based on my experience I would recommended it without hesitation. What follows is what I wrote in the first day and a bit with it:I bought this to replace a very old HP MFP that had finally died.As well needing scanning and occasionally colour printing capability, I was attracted by two features: wifi, which would enable me to locate the printer somewhere more convenient without a cable to my computer, and AirPrint, which would allow me to print from my iPad or iPhone.Initially I connected it by USB and the printer and scanner worked very well. Print quality is excellent and I'm pleased with the few scans I done so far. It also looks neat and attractive and isn't too big. However, much of my waking time in the first 24 hours with this printer were devoted to getting it to work wirelessly as I wanted and this proved extremely frustrating. I have worked in IT for my whole life, so am probably more capable than most people of getting something like this to work, and diagnosing problems but still I couldn't get it working reliably with my Mac. In fact nothing really worked consistently - printing wirelessly from the Mac was intermittent, and Airprint from our iOS devices and scanning didn't work at all.I'm trying to use it with an Apple MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013 model), running the latest OSX 10.11.4. I did the initial printer setup using my iOS phone as they recommended, which went smoothly. I could then add the printer in "Printers and Scanners" on the Mac. And for a while printing worked, and eventually, after a few failed attempts, so did scanning using the Mac's Image Capture app.My first version of this review gave the printer only 3-stars because although it worked well as a USB printer, it seemed impossible to get it to work reliably as a wifi printer with Apple devices. As you can see I've now given it 5 stars, as I have it working properly now - largely because of the excellent support I received from HP's technical team in the UK, who suspected that the issues were with my wireless network rather than the printer itself. We ran out of time on the first phone call and were going to continue to look into this on a follow-up call. However, in the meantime, I conducted some tests of my own and confirmed that it all worked fine using the printer's own direct wifi (as a test - no good for normal use) and also with another wireless access point I was able to try. In both cases it worked perfectly. Clearly it was a network issue with my main wifi network (which in other ways has run perfectly for the last six years). The issue is Apple specific: wireless printing, including Airplay, uses an Apple service called Bonjour - a zero-configuration network protocol that allows devices (such as a printer) to advertise themselves on the network and be easily found by clients wanting to access them. It turns out that Bonjour puts certain requirements on the local network and my rather old wireless access point didn't support them. A little more research, and a support call to Edimax (whose access point it is) ended up with a firmware update to the access point and the whole thing working perfectly now.So, if you have trouble with wireless printing with Apple devices, you probably have a similar problem and shouldn't blame the printer as I did for the first day or so.Overall then, as I said at the beginning, it's a nice looking, good quality, reasonably fast printer that works well both USB connected and wirelessly. It's cheap to buy and - according to Which? magazine - one of the cheaper ink-jet printers to use too. Hence my five stars.By the way, HP's support was impressive - I entered a brief problem description via a web form and then it took nearly 24 hours to get a call back, but the person I spoke to was very helpful and knowledgeable. It was his intuition that the problem lay with the network that solved this for me (even though I did all the donkey work of proving it and resolving it). For such a low cost product, this level of support was unexpected and but very pleasing.

This has been an excellent AiO printer, scanner and copier right from the start. I've had several HP printers over the years and a couple of AiO printers and scanners and this is without a doubt the best yet (and believe me some have been a royal pain or never ending problems). Intuitive touch screen makes it incredibly easy to set up and manage tasks without needing a PC to actually control it all. HP have finally started to get their act together.Easily accessible on your WiFi network not just to PCs and laptops, but with a print plugin on your smartphone or tablet, they can connect directly with the printer as well.Thankfully the days of setting up a printer on one PC and requiring that PC to be running all the time to use it as a network share are well and truly gone. With clouds, modern apps for smartphones and tablets as well, you do quite literally have the power of an office in your pocket too. If you're still doing things the old way by needing at least one PC running to be able to share your printer with other devices, do yourself a massive favour and upgrade. I can't comment for Apple Mac or IOS, but Windows and Android both work brilliantly. I'm able to print quality documents of various types from Windows or Android at any time from any device. It prints stunning photos in great quality, scans, photocopies and will even fax relatively easily as well. Very good front loading paper tray and completed documents also feed back out of the front as well, it even has a little automatic catch tray so your documents don't end up all over the floor if you forgot to extend that first too. No more awkward dual front and rear feed and completion trays, it is literally all in one in every sense. Fully secured with modern encryption for added security. Everything has been completely seamless. I'm pretty handy with PCs and networking and certain models of network capable HP printers have had me banging my head on my desk over the last 20+ years. The HP Envy hasn't given me any configuration troubles at all. It's only taken HP 20 years, but they're finally producing modern AiO products that literally anyone can set up and use.The small/standard print cartridges don't last particularly long on the consumables side of things. The XL cartridges are quite pricey (typical HP), but they do work out more cost effective after the upfront cost. You can sign yourself up to an automated subscription service to have printer cartridges delivered to you on a regular basis if so required, but for most people this just isn't necessary. The printer is also more accurate at estimating the remaining ink in your cartridges than a lot of previous models as well and you can very easily get this information now directly from the touchscreen on the printer or your PC or phone app to know before you need more ink not when you've just run out.The product is supplied with plenty of protection in the retail packaging and a quick start guide is included. Also included is a UK mains and USB cable if you do need a direct connection for any reason. I will just point out it's essential to read the guide as there are certain moving parts inside that are secured with tape for travel protection that must be removed before operation. No DVD with driver software, etc was included however, so you will need internet access to download the software and driver package. When your PC detects the device, you can choose to simply use it as it is configured or you can download the full HP software and driver package to install on a PC. Other mobile devices simply need a printer plugin or use native printer support depending on your specific mobile device. Setup is quick and easy and the HP Toolbox is now a cleaner more intuitive display and layout.Highly recommended and 5/5. This is without a doubt the best HP AiO or printer I've ever owned or used from quite a list.

Excellent very impressed with the printer!!!A definite must buy for home use, it does a lot more than you need, but it is good to have the option of the additional functionality. Print quality is very good. I like the added security provided for features such as scan to email, recognition of additional PC. You can also print from your smartphone, tablet once you have download the HP print app, which is so useful, which allows for more flexibility on device printing.Very easy to set up to WiFi connection (no need to initially have printer connected to pc to perform this), DO NOT install the software from the disc which comes with the printer as it only provides basic functions,go onto the HP website and download the full software version. My sister recommended it, she had the same printer, I was impressed with what I saw and she only had good things to say about the printer, excellent value for money, I ordered one. It is a huge improvement on my last printer which was very outdated in comparison (Epson). It is fairly quiet too and is just so stylish, the touch screen is simple to use with instructions for each option if required. This is my first HP printer, I have always had Epson printers in the past. I do believe that I have now been converted to being a HP printer buyer, when I compared the current Epson printer to HP, HP won on style, overall functionality, and cost. HP printers are priced fairly considering what you get, it is well worth the spend. The only slight downside is that HP cartridges are a little on the pricey side, whereas Epson there is more variety on purchasing non Epson brand cartridges. However, in saying that buying cheaper cartridges does have their downside's. I am so impressed with the HP cartridge, I am still using the original cartridges supplied with the printer which I purchased Oct 2016 (9 months ago). So I will not mind the extra cost when it comes to re-purchasing, admittedly I do not do very many printouts, but further impressed that the cartridge ports have not dried up, which I experienced with the cheaper Epson cartridge, that required me run printer port clean config options, which uses a fair amount of ink.I friend of mine was also impressed with my printer and features, he too purchased the very same printer, none of us have any complaints, and I have had the printer for several months now and still in awe of it.If you are a basic printer user, you will not be disappointed, you will get more than you require from this printer! I really cannot express how good this printer is.The number of 5star ratings ratio speaks for itself in comparison to the remainder of the lesser ratings, this is a testament to the product.

I've had this printer for several weeks now so thought a review was in order. When looking for a printer I had some requirements1) Decent speed (not lightning fast but not waiting a minute per page)2) Fits on the shelf I have for a printer3) Doesn't cost the earth for ink4) Prints "ok" quality photos (not looking for a "photo" printer)This printer just about ticks all of the boxes.1) I've been pleasantly satisfied with the speed of all printing which I've submitted2) This was a close thing. Because most print manufacturers now insist on making "all in one" printers with a flatbed scanner, the foot print of most printers is larger than needed for a dedicated printer.I have a stand alone document scanner which is much more convenient for my scanning needs but found that if I wanted (3) from my list then size was going to be larger than I really wanted. In the end this did fit on my shelf, although with a slight overhang (the published) dimensions of the printer are accurate) but it's not big enough to cause any stability issues.3) To achieve this I wanted to be able to use HP's Instant Ink program. While I don't print a vast amount, being able to print how much I needed without worrying about whether I'd run out of ink, or whether the ink would have dried up since I last printed was important. The Instant Ink program seems to address that. I pay £2 a month which gives me 50 pages (no matter the coverage) along with allowing you to "roll over" up to 50 pages to the following month if you haven't used your entire allowance. This limits my ink costs to £24 a year, which is less than the cost of one set of replacement inks a year on pretty much any printer (and even if you don't print that much, the chances are you'd need to buy new cartridges to avoid the drying out issues anyway!)4) Quality. This printer only has 3 colours (in a combined cartridge) so I wasn't expecting amazing photo quality. You need a photo with 5 or 6 colours to get truly reasonable photo quality, but that wasn't a requirement for me - if I want proper photos printed I'll use an online service. But for things like birthday cards, printing things for the children etc. this is perfectly adequate.Overall this is a decent printer. It ticks all of the boxes for modern features - Wireless printing, Airprint support, Instant Ink, apps for mobile phones etc. that you'd want as well as doing a decent job of meeting my specific requirements. It's not the best printer ever made, but for the cost I think it's a decent value home / small office printer for regular (but probably not heavy) usage.

I collected my new printer today and spent 2 hours connecting it up to my laptop Vista.Looking at the starter booklet I must admit I was a bit concerned as to whether I would be able to set up this printer.Being in my late 70's and not too bright I tried to follow the instructions word for word. To cut a long story short I did manageto set it up eventually. A couple of points for anyone like me......when the software loads 6 programmes ( you will come to this pointduring the set up procedures ) ....after loading the first program you will get a message saying 'your device is now ready to use' or words to that effect. The temptation is to think all the necessary programmes have been loaded and to exit.NO..there is a pause before the softwarecontinues to load the remaining 5 programmes so be patient and wait until ALL programmes have been loaded.Having set up the printer to work with my laptop I moved on to getting it to work with my IPad.I didn't realise that you can't have the IPad connected to both your router and printer at the same time ( a pity ! )To set up the printer in direct wifi mode (i.e the printer connects wirelessly directly to the IPad ) then you will be askedfor the password ? Like a lot of people I went on the Internet to ask 'how do I find the password ' .The password will be found bypressing one of the menu buttons on the front of the printer. Can't remember which one as without a paper manual it is really a case of trial and error as to what each button does. However you will be told the number you have to enter into your iPad to get it to talk to the printer. What is a bit frustrating is that having made the connection with the iPad one the has to get up to press a button on the printer before it willactually start printing.I use the word 'button ' to indicate pressing the screen options that appear on the front of the printerOverall I thought the printer itself was rather a cheap plastic product and noisy when printing but for the £70 or so I paid was good value for money but time will tell if this product will last my lifetime.....which it should...hopefully.I have give it 4 stars mainly because I am an optimist !

I researched printers for a while before choosing this HP Envy. It ticks all of the right boxes and the price is great (around £65 in 2016).I rarely buy something which turns out to be better than I could have hoped for (the last time this happened was when I purchased an iPad and a Macbook).- Easy to set up, was up and running in minutes.- Print quality easily matches that of a high end laser printer, (I actually found the print detail of fine type much clearer on this printer than a laser)- Lovely, clear, colour touchscreen panel to control everything. (It even shows you animated instruction tutorials of how to operate the printer).- Lets your print direct off iPad/iPhone with out the need for a separate wifi router. This printer creates its own wifi signal, amazing.- Quality build, doesn't feel cheap.- Printer creates its own email address so you can actually log into your printer and print from anywhere in the world, should you need to.- Compatible with HP instant print - A handy cheap subscription service which automatically sends you a new cartridge when you're nearly out of ink.- Double sided print function works perfectly.- Insert a camera memory card into the printer and all of your photos will be displayed on the touchscreen. You can then scroll through them and select the ones you want to print, you can adjust colour settings and crop them right on the printer itself - easy!.- Full colour prints right to the edge, looks crystal clear and vibrant - good enough to frame a hang on your wall. What else can I say, it's a joy to use and you won't be disappointed! - I just can't believe I was previously using such a rubbish printer for the past several years..

The printer is fast and quality good, printing from iPhone, iPad easy and you can even print from your memory card. It has direct wifi so you don't even need a router and you can print to it from anywhere in the world if you want BUT. It has an auto off feature which means after 2 hrs it will power off, no problem this can be disabled. It has a sleep function and you can choose 5, 10 pr 15 mins before it sleeps but this option can not be disabled. The idea is you can be downstairs for example and have not used the printer for a few hours or days and send a print to it without having to get up and turn it on. I found it just would not wake up and I had to power it off and on again, for me this was annoying so I got onto Google and found many people have this issue, not just with this model but with most HP printers. Some people have had printers replaced 2 or 3 times but get the same issue. I did lots of reading and found a few things to try which fingers crossed have fixed the issue for me. I set the printer to have a fixed IP address rather than DHCP, so in my case my router is on 192.168.0.1 so I set the printer on 192.168.0.230 way above the starting DHCP range so nothing else will ever take that address. I also disabled IPv6 and the printer has been left for over an hour and still wakes fine where before after 20mins I had to switch off and on. I really like the features, being able to have A4 paper and photo paper loaded at the same time is perfect. Being able to print direct from my cameras memory card is perfect. If this fix keeps working then I am a very happy buyer.

Bought this printer to replace my Kodak Hero 5.1 which developed a printer head error.I was impressed with the look of the machine straight away. Far sleeker than my previous boxy Kodak. The box contained set up disc for PC, instruction manuals in various languages, power cables & printer cartridges.Unpacking was easy - a few pieces of cardboard & tape to remove and then your ready for set up.The set up process was very easy (which I was glad about as I couldn't find the set up guide in English). Basically all the instructions come up on the touch led screen. The process took around 10 mins from start to finish. The printer automatically calibrates on set up so make sure there's a few sheets ofpaper in the tray ready.Connecting iPhone or iPad is extremely easy - you need to download an app & just follow the instructions. So far I've printed off a couple of photos and they've come out great. The printer is very smooth & quiet in operation too!If printing documents you can simply take a photo of the paperwork, the app can convert it into a PDF and you can print directly from the app.One of the best features in my opinion is the 'instant ink' scheme. You can sign up for a low monthly fee based on your usage & HP will automatically send you replacement ink cartridges before you run out!!! I chose the 100 page a month option which works out at £3.49 - you can amend your option as you go if you find you're using more or less ink than initially thought. All in all this looks & feels like a lovely machine with the added benefit of never running out of ink :-) x

After spending hours trying to decide whether to buy a budget or a midrange inkjet and then deciding on which one out of many models to buy, I opted for this HP Envy 5640. Online reviews on printers can be misleading with often poor reviews filled with unreasonable expectations and inexperienced users. Expert reviews end up comparing with top of the range inkjets, which for most buyers, is irrelevant. This is a good printer for its price, paid £60. Set up took 10 minutes and was straight forward, just follow the onscreen instructions and animations. It comes with a UK adapter, start up ink, but no cable if you need to connect without wifi. The app you need to set up the printer is straightforward. It's design is attractive and not overpowering like other MDFs. The print quality is reasonable for its price and my needs and in my opinion, for average household needs. I was surprised by the photo quality which came out pretty good, even though I don't expect to print many photos. If you are planning to print lots of photos, opt for a printer designed for that need.I will stick to genuine cartridges as experience tells me you're likely to have less issues or hassle with these. I bought some XL62 cartridges with the printer at around £20 each (black and tricolour) and when these finish will consider the HP ink replacement programme which appears very reasonable and overcomes the issue about replacing tricolour cartridges when only one colour runs out.Haven't used the scanner yet so can't comment.

Probably the best printer out there and I used to have a canon pixma MG3150 it was so difficult to set up wireless on it you had to manually set up the whole process and sometimes it would work and sometimes it would just disconnect the printer completely then you have to start from scratch. This printer though, WOW it was so simple and easy to set up even your grandmother could set this up, all I had to do was turn it on and then starts up a short set up wizard (5-10mins) it even shows you an example of how to install the ink via a graphic demo from the printer screen and then once you start to set up wireless it is basically just as simple as setting up wifi on your phone basically the sameprocess.I highly advise you to try out printing pictures I mean I only printed a picture onto standard A4 printer paper and it came out amazing (remember to set to best) but be careful this setting will end up draining the ink faster than you can blink,BUT you can set up a membership through the hp website when your printer starts to run out of ink it will send an alert to the site and send you the ink, I haven't tried this yet but I am considering it as you save 70% and the prices are from £1.99 per month. It is a very good high quality printer for such a low price I am astonished by how great it is.Forgot to add that it works amazingly well with my android phone via the all in one printer app.

I bought this printer to replace my old HP printer because I needed a printer that was both AirPrint and instant ink compatible. The printer was delivered next day was well packaged as expected. When I got it out of the box it was a nice size although a little bigger than my old printer the new printer being 45.5 x 16 x 40.9 cm. There is also a automatic pop out tray that catches the paper which mean the printer would need a bit more than the stated dimensions. The printer was a doddle to set up you just need a mobile phone there is a QR code in the manual that takes you straight to the right software once downloaded you just follow the steps and it was set up in less than 5 minutes. If you don't have a smartphone you can also set it up using a website or a CD in the box. IMHO the phone is the easiest. You are able to print photos or documents from phones tablet as well as laptops or pcs. The photo quality is excellent as are standard word documents. The printer is surprisingly quiet and makes very little noise when printingI recommend you sign up to instant ink which allows you to print 50 pages a month for £1.99 with more expensive costs if you need more pages you get unlimited ink automatically sent out as the printer lets HP know automatically when the ink is getting low

Over the last 6 months I've been through 5 different air print printers and none of them has lasted longer than a few weeks, I previously had canon and HP printers, I thought this printer was a bit more expensive but was willing to go the extra mile as I know you get what you pay for these days, the set up was very easy, and took about 1-2 minutes to set up , very quick , connection to router took 10 seconds as all I needed to do was press a button on a router and printer, I tried using AirPrint by printing from my iphone - was very fast and very efficient was really pleased with how fast it connected. It has a place for small photo paper and a4 which I got free with the printer, scanning was good also, can't fault this printer although idea say the one thing I don't think is good is that when using to print photos on the small photo paper the ink did not try and it ran and it printed out quite blurry and not as sharp as professionally developed photos you get from the shop. I'm not sure as to why that is but will explore further. It has a SD memory card slot and USB port, the screen is easy touch screen and is fast not like slow responding screens and the overall design of the printer is sleek and nice. I do not regret this order even though I did pay £55 for it from eBay.

I bought this from another retailer during black friday, it's a brilliant machine that's done everything I've asked of it without a single problem.... I've scanned, photocopied, printed A4 photos, and full page text - just does it, and does it pretty quick.the HP Instant Ink service is a must, as it is with any eligible HP Printer - In my opinion you would be crazy not to... £1.99/month and when your ink gets low they automatically send you a new set of ink.... and no, you don't pay extra for the ink, its literally £1.99/month and that's it, so that's £24 per year... so even if you only use 1 set of ink in a year, you'll have saved money.Instant Ink small print - you should know that for £1.99/month you can only print 50 pages per month (do not go over it!)but there are other packages i.e £2.99 for 100 pages and so on, plus you can upgrade instantly for the odd month if you need to print 150 pages etc - and when the ink runs out or dries up you have to ship it back in the supplied envelope which is just as simple as putting it in, sealing, and throwing in a postbox. All in all, this is my second Instant-Ink eligible printer and I love the service, and I love both of the printers (5532 & 5640)

Tidy printer that does good quality prints.Nice to be able to create scans from the Printer Touch Screen and send to Printer rather than managing completely from the Printer. There is no feeder for scanning multiple documents but for the price maybe not to be expected.Recommend the Instant Ink Service.Instant Ink gives you HP ink cartirdges at the fraction of the price buying from the shops. But the beauty of this service is that it will detect when your ink cartridges are getting close to empty and send you replacements so you never run out.Marked down because of a couple of niggles. The printer seems to keep wanting a half-full tray before it recognises that there is paper in the print tray.Other annoyance is that although set-up was fairly straight-forward,I did seem to go through a period of struggling to get the Scan to PDF driver up and running.Initially, everything was up and running smoothly with all the functionality I needed. However, after the first use the "Scan to PDF" function disappeared. After running it through the Troubleshooter and a few system updates, the Scan to PDF functionality returned but it was a little frustrating at the time.

Having given up on my useless Epson expression, bought only a couple of months ago and so buggy that I very nearly took it into the garden and dropped a paving slab on it, I decided to start afresh and get this Hp envy...and I have been so impressed as it just works and does a lot of different clever things with no fuss (including printing...Bonus!!)Maybe it's just after the Epson anything would've seemed better, but this is really the first printer that I have owned that uses its internet connection in such a seamless and intuitive way, with a strong sense that HP have really put a lot of work into making it right, rather than just sellotaping a wireless chip to the printer and hoping for the best.Definitely the best printer I've ever had,and there's been a few.As others have said, the instant ink is a great idea, and takes the faff out of the business of replacing the inks.Go for it! I'd be surprised if you were disappointed.I've included a picture of the 2 printers side by side... As you can see I have found an alternative use for the Epson, as a handy fruit and cheese platter, so not a complete loss then.
