I chose to buy a rubber lens hood for its flexibility, allowing me to get two hood lengths for the price of one hood. The Hoya is a quality product, of sturdy rubber, and with a solid screw at the bottom. It folds back very easily, and I really need to do this on my Sony A55 kit lens when I go towards 18mm, as I start taking photos of the hood border otherwise. In fact, at 18mm, the folded lens hood intrudes very noticeably on the image again, so I either take the photo at 22-odd mm, or I have to unscrew it. The rubber does not fold all the way back, so it'll take up extra space in your camera bag if mounted (and this can be an issue for certain tight holsters), but unscrewed and folded back,it is actually very very compact (about five UV filters stacked, I'd say), and can therefore be stored in a side pocket with ease! So now I can carry a versatile lens hood for my camera in a side pocket of my small and tightly fitting holster, almost unaware that's it there until I need it! The solid screw really is a bonus here, as screwing/unscrewing is a breeze as a result. All in all, I very warmly recommend this product; it gets the job done in an elegant way, and certainly does not cost the world!

This hood is a great well made hood - I could no longer get the hood for a canon 50mm 1.8 MKI and this lens uses a screw on hood rather than the more common bayonet fit - I bought this hood to give it a try and it is superb. It is stiff enough to offer protection but flexible enough to be able to fold back on its self for storage. As stated earlier this screws on to the filter thread and yes you can use it with a filter attached - I have a UV protection filter and then this hood on my camera lens at both times.Other bonus of a rubber hood is that if you have the need to shoot through a window - for example at a zoo then this can be pushed up against the glass to reduce all flare and reflections. This is also extremely cheaper that any of canons hoods for similar lenses - just look at the cost of canons hood for a 50mm 1.8 MKII and this hood makes sense.

Not only will this hood fold flat for easy carriage in your camera bag, it has two levels of 'extension' suitable for wider angle and standard/tele lenses respectively. Like all rubber hoods, as compared with the metal item which may - or may not - have come as original with your lens, it has the advantage that if you need to get up-close and personal to a window or somesuch to take your shot and happen to make contact you will do no damage either side. (Of course, dependent on whose window you have snuck up to and why, that may not be the end of the story!) Like everything Hoya it's first class, worth twice the price, buy two!

If your camera has a filter thread in front of the lens (and too many brands of bridge-type digitals don't, ridiculous penny-pinching, but that's a grouse for elsewhere) then this hood is an excellent buy. It has three "settings" (points to which you can - easily - push the rubber) to resize it for wide, normal, and zoom, and goes almost flat flat for easy transport or storage. I found it did the job well, shutting out the glare as well as any pricier more "professional-quality" hood and avoiding vignetting at the various zoom setting. A useful accessory to help you get good pictures, and at a very reasonable price.

Fits Nikon P900 perfectly. Main reason for purchase was to protect the lens during shoots as it is so exposed on the P900.This it achieves well. However the hood does have to be left in its collapsed position otherwise it becomes visible in shot. The bigger issue is that it is not compatible with the Nikon lens cover, meaning I have a choice.. leave the good fitted to offer lens protection whilst using the camera or remove it and allow lens cap to protect it during transport.I already know the answer, il likely not use the lens cap again.

Since purchasing this lens hood I have used it several times whilst shooting out doing landscape photography. Generally I would have it attached to a 18 to 200 Canon telephoto lens. When I choose to use the lens at the widest angle the hood causes a vignette effect which is not desirable. To prevent this situation the hood can be folded back but in so doing hood is then less effective. Excellent in all other situation, also is made of rubber ( unbreakable )and very good for outdoor use.

I am keeping this although it doesn't quite fit the lens on my Fuiji HS30. Well, it fits onto it, but vignettes at 24mm. But most of my shots aren't at 24mm and it is very sturdy so helps protect the camera. Much better than the original lens hood that came with the camera or the off-brand one that replaced the worn out original. I have bought Hoya hoods and filters for years and always found them reliable.

This item is made of good quality material. Useful as hood and even when folded back as a physical buffer offering some protection when compact cameras pocketed . In conjunction with a polariser it allows a quick shooting set up with the sort of quality that used to cost (me) thousands. Only drawback is hood must be removed if using flash: I almost never do use flash so that's all right.

With zoom lenses, conventional rigid lens hoods can be of very limited use. This three position rubber lens hood is a really valuable alternative. It does a useful job over a range from medium wide to medium telephoto, provided one takes care to adjust as necessary to avoid vignetting. The standard of construction is good, as expected from Hoya.

This lens hood was just what I wanted to accompany a medium zoom lens. It fits on to the lens by a screw thread and can then be adjusted to suit the focal length of the lens in use. Once adjusted, the hood remains set. There was one minor problem in that the lens cap that used to fit the lens no longer fitted on the lens hood.

Fitted to my X100 instead of the metal lens hood which I found to be worryingly loose. This Hoya hood has a much better screw on and I use it on top of a 49mm UV filter. Its easily adaptable and protects the lens.Only two downsides - it will block some of the optical viewfinder and you cant use a lens cap.

A useful cheap alternative to an expensive dedicated Lens Hood.Fits the camera screw mount perfectly and works as it's supposed to.The only slight drawback with this hood is that, after a great amount of use, the rubber will split at the folds (had a similar hood years ago and experienced this problem).

.. to the manufacturer offerings, especially if not supplied with the lens as is Canon's habit. I can see where it will wear out eventually but for now more than happy with it. Can cause problems with fitting a lens cap so be careful or remove before capping your lens.

I bought this Hoya lens hood for a Nikon 70-210mm f/4-5.6 zoom, which needed a Nikon a h24 metal hood to expensive for me and so I decided buy this it screws into the filter ring and folds flat, the only fault is that you can't use your lens cap, with the hood fitted

Great addition and protection for your camera lens. This little rubber hood can be used long or short, is easy to carry about with your camera and does make a difference on very bright days. Good price everyone should have one
