First of all, to whoever is new to the game franchise that is Guitar Hero: the idea is to follow on-screen, color-coded "instructions" to hit buttons on a guitar-shaped controller in time with the music. The result is the feeling or indeed illusion of being on a stage rocking along to great songs and being loved by a crowd as if you really were a rock star. Now, provided you can really settle for the virtual experience/illusion this game has to offer, carry on - if however you think it sounds lame and the real thing is way better, by all means, buy a real guitar and start taking lessons right away. You might want to consider my next sentence first though. This game, through its various difficulty settings, offers the chance to people with little or no talent or music ear or skills to feel as if they really are playing their favorite songs. Even on the higher game difficulties, where you're required to hit the "guitar" fret buttons and "strum" as many times as there are notes in the actual song, you still, strictly speaking, are not really playing the song. Of course the game does offer a big challenge towards the end, and the "expert" difficulty takes a lot of practice to master, but it's still a lot easier than spending 10+ years mastering the same songs on a real guitar. And even then, chances of stardom and gigs all over the world are next to nil (unless you're the next Jimmy Hendrix and you just don't know it yet - but for the rest of us...)So, all in all, there's lots of fun to be had in this game, playing pretend-guitar on plastic toys, closing your eyes and imagining you're really as the title suggests, a legend of rock. The game is equally as fun with a friend playing along (or against) with you, and although the presentation and visuals of this game could have been a lot better, its song lineup and overall fun factor are so high, that I'll let it slide.Comparing it to other Guitar Hero titles, it's a definite step up from the previous games, and probably - as far as the song list goes - better than the recent Guitar Hero 5 game as well. It sort of pales in comparison to Guitar Hero World Tour though, which I believe is the best of the franchise so far. Still, GHIII is a great game, and I easily recommend it to GH fans and newcomers alike.

I played Guitar Hero 2 at a friend's house for the first time last weekend and I loved it so much that I bought GH3 with the two controllers. I read some of the reviews where people had said it's too difficult and wasn't sure what to expect. Well, it isn't that hard at all. It is a tiny bit less forgiving than GH2, but I can still hit 99% of notes on easy (that 100% is still eluding me!) and I've only played it a few times. The graphics are, well, the same as before, which is basic. But this game isn't about visual appeal, it is about playability and it has that by the shedload.I'm not an all-out rock and metal fan (Foo Fighters is my kind of thing) so, for me,the songs make up an interesting selection of rock and pop-rock hits from the last 20 to 30 years. There's many songs I don't know and there are a number of catchy melodies that, although I wouldn't buy them, I am quite happy to 'rock out' to on GH3. You can also buy a number of new songs, so you shouldn't get too bored, too quickly. Plus there are the encore songs - but only if you're good enough! Finally, I recommend getting the two controllers. Even though they are wired, the wires are very long, so unless you're going to spin round and knock over the furniture while you're at it, this shouldn't be a problem. The advantage of the two controllers is that you can play with a friend in the 2 player mode and either battle each other, or play together as a band in a guitar/guitar, guitar/bass, or bass/bass combo. In conclusion, a great game that is marginally harder than its predecessors, but, if you can't do well on it, you must have no rhythm and should stick to Gran Tourismo or something.

I bought this for my PS2 (Already own GH3 for Wii). The Plugg in Guitars are easy to use, long leads and saves recharging batteries all the time.Allows 2 people to play together( as a band: Lead/Bass or Rhythm/Lead- depending on song) or they can compete against each other, again much cheaper than buying an extra Guitar. The whole Family can have fun together playing 2 at a time, as well as creating your own career.Fantasic for Kidz (& Adults)- must admit I prefer My Wii for me as can use it in bed with head phones and not upset neighbours. This PS2 version is just plug in and play when ever you want. Also means you can buy the earlier Games GH1 & GH2, also would give 5 stars to thoses games.(Though dissapointed with GH 80's...3 stars)At time of writing its less than £50, would buy NOW if I didn't already own it, would still good value at normal price.( I paid around £55 on amazon a month ago)

Ok, I was already a big fan of the series (as I am of the Rock Band series as well btw), but GH3 had to be added to my collection. This one has got arguably the best song list of all of these type of games. Big difference with the later editions of GH and RB are the battles. They're fun, but can be hard. I am yet to beat Slash on Expert...Only let down (and this is something that was improved on from Guitar Hero World Tour onwards) is that you need to unlock all the songs at every different difficulty. I started on Expert and got stuck on the Slash battle, but cannot give that a go on Hard until I play every other song (that I had already completed on Expert) on Hard-level as well.Bit annoying....But all in all a very fun game!

The best GH game of them all!!Ive played all the GH games and this still stands out as the best for me. I'm no expert player but have finished the game on hard and was well happy with that. This is the hardest of all the GH games tbh. All the others have become easier and easier. If you can master this one you can play any of them. The track list has a wide range of tastes and should suit most people. The guitar is quite strong, a friend of mine has had the game for over a year and it still works fine, unlike the GH world tour guitar which only lasted about 2 months for me

Bought this for myself just before Christmas. Hardly given myself time to play it. But it is there for me. New to PS3 gaming (I put my last joypad down 17 years ago when the Amiga 500 became obsolete), and it was the GuitarHero games which got me wanting a PS3 after playing earlier verisons round a mates PS2. A love for rock music didnt help. There is a "boss" guitarist at the end of each level which I was unfamiliar with.Great game though and great songs.Great stuff.

I now have a new found admiration for Axl Rose and other rock guitarists. Great fun - especially for the first few days when you can beat your 11yr old son, after that the novelty wears off a bit as they get the hang of the game and beat you every time - even when you're still on the easy level and they're playing like Hendrix.Banning them from having any sugar for a day or two slows kids down though - try it you might win again.

Bought this for 10yr son's birthday. Loves this game as one of best for playstation (usually played racing/football/adventure). Worth having two controllers as friends/sister can play along together. Despite other reviews song choice is good and they soon mastered the basics and moving up levels. Hours of challenge and entertainment - best impulse buy made!

I love Guitar Hero and this is by far my favourite of the series. It has in my opinion got the best playlist so far including, The Killers, Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols and guns 'n' Roses. I love that you can play as Slash in this game too, the battles are really fun and can take a few tries to actually win. Brilliant game in a brilliant series.

From "The Guitar Hero family" comes another excellent game. If you like guitar hero, you will like this one too. It has only one thing that I don't like, in the beginning of the game there's only 4 music's available for a quick play, something that doesn't happen in the Guitar Hero 5 were all of the music's are available from the beginning.

I love this game. I prefer it so much to World Tour.I agree it's difficult and for the serious game guitarist, but it gives so many hours of fun and it's worth it just for 'Welcome To The Jungle' and 'Through The Flames'!!!Gamers have created a new level of 'Super Expert' so it is possible to complete this game with practice.

20.4.2010

I love this game as it has a lot of my favourite songs such as Rock you like a Hurricane!I love the online system as well as you get to play with other people around the world!!!For anyone wanting to get this game. DO IT!!

Love this game! I just got a new Playstation and don't have a guitar yet. The good thing about this game is that you can also play it with the controller. It is has a good multiplayer option, so it is a social game to play.

23.4.2010

Lots of fun with friends. Unfortunatelly this is one of the earlier versions and is playable with 2 players only. But titles on this games are very nice! Not like the new ones, which only have a small amount of rock songs.
