I bought this 1001 Nights building set to use alongside our 2 other Grimms sets (Romanesque and Counter rotating stepped spiral). The pics show a few of our builds using all the sets together. We find each set adds another useful dimension to our play. This one added some extra rectangular and cube blocks as well as some narrow square blocks and useful corner blocks of different sizes, in addition to the distinctive arched windows. It does restrict building to square-based constructions - I personally prefer the curves of the Romanesque. However, the arches give an interesting shape to doorways and windows, and we like arranging the little arched "hats" (inner arch shapes) on top of our walls and doors. The children really enjoy building with this - I do find it appeals more to boys than girls. All in all, this set adds plenty of useful pieces to the mix, enabling more variety of structures to be built, such as mazes for our hex bugs, houses, hotels, temples and castles. Some of the colours (the dark red, dill violet, deep green and navy blue) are a little dark/dull for my preference, though there are some lovely pinks, oranges, yellows and greens too. (I confess I did repaint over my least favourite colours!) I don't think the kids were bothered at all though. The overall effect is very vibrant and beautiful. The most exciting thing for us is the versatility of all these building sets. We have been able to build so many interesting, different and beautiful constructions! There's also an extremely satisfying element of solving the challenge/puzzle of where to fit each piece for maximum effect, deciding between symmetry and freestyle, balancing different shapes on top of each other, seeing which shapes look/fit best with each other... The fabulously grippy slightly rough surfaces mean the blocks really do stay where you put them without slipping - a point I didn't fully grasp or appreciate (as I usually love the feel of smoothly sanded polished wood) until I actually started building with them.I got a better price ordering from Amazon EU, saving about £25-30. I did have to wait a couple of weeks for it to arrive though, with some uncertainty about whether it was out of stock or when/whether the shipping date would happen. I had to chase it up twice and almost cancelled the order, but it arrived in the end and I'm very glad it did! ❤️ ?

Given 4 out of 5, since some pieces are quite small for my 20 month old boy, so put them to one side for now till he is old enough not to put in his mouth.
