The Fractal Design Define series PC cases come with two preinstalled fans (one at the back and one in the front) so I bought one more of these fans and placed it in the front (so that now I have two in the front and one in the back). The effect on my CPU core temps (when compared to my previous 2-fan setup) was a mere reduction of 0.5˚C. I am pretty sure, however, that if I place the fan at the top of my case rather than in the front, the reduction in the CPU core temperatures will be around 2˚C - but as this will require me to take off the sound dampening foams from the top of my case I won't do it. Anyway, despite the rather marginal improvement on the CPU core temps, the airflow inside the case has undoubtedly improved and this will have a positive effect on the longevity of the motherboard and the things installed on it. The GPU temps, for example, were reduced by 2˚C.In order to power this fan you will have to connect it on the motherboard (on a 4pin or a 3pin male connector). If you own a Fractal case (or any other case offering voltage control) you also have the option to connect it with the voltage controller at the front of the case. You will need to buy a 3pin splitter for this ( it is cheap though - costs about £1.90). My only gripe with this fan is that it does not have a 4pin female connector and therefore it is not PWM controlled. Its connector is only a 3pin one and as such the fan is only voltage controlled. All in all, I can recommend buying one of these Fractal Design Silent Series 3 140mm case fans. It just costs £8, it is silent, you get improved airflow in the case, and a reduction of 0.5˚C-2˚C on your CPU and GPU temps. I would definitely recommend it to those owning a Fractal Design Define S, R4 or R5 case as it matches the fans that are already pre-installed. Also in case you have bought one of those budget cases that come with only one fan at the back then you should absolutely consider purchasing at least one fan for the front as this will reduce your CPU and GPU temps by at least 10˚C.

Bought this to fit below my 970 GPU in a Fractal R6 tempered glass case by modifying the expansion slot covers which is really easy to do. Thus the GPU is assisted in its venting out heat and runs cooler. 60mm would have been even easier but airflow would be less and noise probably greater, the 90mm option fan would have been 10mm too big. The fan runs at full speed is really efficient and super quiet and a great price after getting a Fractal R6 case with 3 fans fitted as standard I'm getting to be quite a fan of Fractal fans (excuse awful pun) preferring them to the Noctua's I have always bought. They have the right balance to noise ratio to output if you want a quiet but efficient case at very reasonable prices.Result I have now turned my GPU back to default passive mode at idle rather than constant 30% and it stays at 35c until I start gaming then 65c - 68c is the norm with intensive games.

I bought this fan as a replacement for a fractal R2 silent series fan that had it's bearings start to fail. The fan itself is excellent, it's both quiet and pushes a decent amount of air through the system. However fractal, why make the cables so short? I bought an addition R2 fan a few years ago and the cable is significantly longer and I personally think the braided cable looked nicer than the flat style one on the R3. It's lucky I had a cable extender as It would not have reached the closest motherboard header from the front fan mount on my fractal R2 arc midi case and I think this will be a problem for a lot of people's systems. Otherwise it's a great fan for a good price.

Excellent fans. I have a Fractal Define R5 case which was supplied with 2 of these. I was so impressed that I've decided to fill the rest of the fan mounts with the same. They are silent as described. Well, if I remove the front fan filter (to expose the front fans), I cannot hear them above the general hum of the other components. They are large so provide plenty of air flow without having to spin too fast. Combined with the Fractal case acoustic insulation and the case is more or less silent with 5 of these shifting air.I like the tidy design too. My case is sealed with acoustic insulation and is under my desk so no windows and no cheap looking LEDs :).

Small, effective, silent'ish.I purchased this one to go into a assistive fan position which is located near the IO shield of a motherboard, this is placed inside a housing called a thermal armour in some Asus motherboards. The only thing I added was a cut to size dust filter screwed into it.Ive been using the R series from fractal for a while, the only drawback is that at around two maintenance cycles (dust cleaning off of the fan etc..) you will need to oil them else they screech like hell. Problem is thers no simple easy way to do this, but its achievable non the less. Hence they get 4 stars.

I bought this to attach to the heatsink of a "fanless" video card which was getting rather hot regardless of being advertised as not needing a fan. With a Fanmate to slow it down to about 2000RPM it is almost inaudible and keeps the video card about 40 degrees cooler than it was before. Most fan cooling designs seem to assume you need an air blast like a jet engine to keep something cool, when in fact all you need in most cases is a good heat sink and a gentle flow to keep it supplied with cool air.

These things are great, and are pretty quiet even at full belt. I have four of them in the back of my TV cabinet (I only refer to it that way because that was its original purpose), attached to a thermostatic switch that stops my HTPC, Blu-Ray and Amp from cooking each other in the summer if I'm gaming. When they come on it's difficult to hear them if you've got music or a game running, although you do notice when it's silent. That said, who will have 4 running at the same time in NormalLand?

Much quieter than the cheap fans in my PC, easy to fit, and a decent length of lead to the 3 pin plug. Whether there is quieter available I can't say, I bought these fans because they came from a manufacturer whose products I have bought before (XL case) and which I found excellent. Once post and packaging was added into the cost these were not expensive relative to basic options. They have not disappointed in any way. A safe choice.

Bought for side panel of case.Nice quality.Could do with a little more length on the cable to reach the motherboard.I also bought a splitter cable which solved this problem but would be nice not to have to buy one.Reasonably quiet at full speed but I use Q-Fan which regulates the speed and so don’t notice it at all in regular use.Has reduced my CPU/Motherboard temperature by about 8 – 10 degrees C!So worth doing for me.

I think I got a bad one. To be honest I should have sent this back immediately as it was no quieter than my old, very cheap, fan. In the last few weeks it has become so noisy that I put the old one back. Unfortunately it's now beyond the return period.Update... I contacted Fractal Design directly and found them to be extremely helpful. I now have a quiet replacement and they have a 4 star review instead of 1!

Fractal Design Silent Series R3 120 mm Case for Cooling FanQuiet and effective - as quiet as when I didn't have a system exhaust fan [no, really, I didn't, more fool me] - and HWMonitor tells me it is as effective as the previous very noisy fan that I got from the local computer shop for not much less than you pay for the Fractal Design, as I get the same minimum & maximum system & CPU temperatures.

When I first installed this, my PC was noticeably noiser. Only after calibrating the fans via Gigabyte's software, my PC is quiet as it was, with my CPU running at near room temp. Couldn't be happier.I did look at various reviews of "Top 10" fans and what not, but I did decide to go for this. In all honesty, it is well worth the price. Goes well with the Fractal Design Meshify case :)

13.1.2017

Fractal Design really make great quality quiet fans. And this is no exception I bought this as a replacement for my Cheap CPU cooler as it had a red led fan that looked a bit tacky in my build and it went in easily without a problem, highly recommend, matches my fractal build well too!

24.11.2015

Bought to replace an old noisy cooler master case fan.Works well and a no annoying noise. Was slightly thicker than the cooler master and so had to do a slight mod to get it to fit, but that’s just down to my case layout.Seems to have good air throughput.

This is even quieter than a quiet fan i already had, its been in for a few months now and yup, its pretty silent - I have an active switch behind a light door, which does muffle any noise, but i can barely hear this one operating... perfect for me
