This game isnt for everyone because its formula one and its a sport which is not a great deal exciting unlike Rally but if you are looking for a simulation formula one game this is the game you want. I have F1 2012 for PS3 and its laughable compared to this. This game has default car set ups to make it playable with a controller, the thing wrong with the default car set up is that the ride height is too low, the problems this creates are that you will always lock up your wheels when you dont use ABS. The other problem with the low ride height is that when you drive over a kerb you will usually do an unrealstic looking spin and you will dismiss this game as complete arcade rubbish and curse itand want to throw it in the bin where you think it belongs. However if you are lucky enough to have a wheel then you can raise the ride height to fix these problems, with controller you will never be able to increase the ride height unless you are amazing with it.I'll give you a few tips on car set up here.first of all put this into google (wetpaints Ps3. Formula One Championship Edition. Car Setups. Home ) find th home page for this site and you will find a good base set up to use for each track but ill tell you what you need to concentrate on changing with the set up)The 1st thing is too increase the ride height, at the moment I have all of mine at 26mm so that I dont lock up my wheels when braking. A little tip on braking is fully compress the brake pedal in the first second or so and then release it gradually enough to avoid lock up.The 2nd thing you should change is the front roll bar, I put it down to minimum and have a low value on the rear, what this does is give you much better turn in and cornering grip because as the cars rolls it adds weight onto the tyre making it have much more grip. The drawback is that you need to be good to do it, you need to time your braking and steering to not overlap much at all and keep your revs low etc, this isnt an arcade game, its really difficult game to master. The other thing I recommend is that you google the "F1 technical dictionary" and the "Car setup and handling troubleshooting guide"The 3rd thing you should change is to make the brakes more front biased so they will be 80-20, 60-40 etc because the theory is that when you are going fast and you brake hard the car will transfer more weight onto the front tyres making them press heavier into the ground, during this time you can brake as hard as you like, as the weight transfers back you need to release the brake pedal enough to avoid the brakes locking up.You can repeat this process to make the car transer weight to the front but as you are going slower you will not be able to fully compress the brakes, this is how cadence braking works.Just one last thing, the times did on the controller by whoever made the set ups I recommended you base this on are very fast and I dont know if its possible to do them with a wheel with no ABS, you may be able to do them with ABS on but it will ruin the game because you will brake into corners later than the AI and even be braking in the corners etc, when I tried using ABS I found that the AI was too easy to overtake at the end of a straight or that I crashed into the back of him because he braked much earlier, but if you dont use ABS you are driving with exactly the same braking points if you brake properly, i.e. fully compress brake and then release it gradually and use cadence braking as described in paragraph above.

A staple title for any games console, Formula One games have suffered over the years by being 'much the same as before' - and let's face it, there is only so much you can do with the genre. However, this first outing for the series on a next-gen console is something else. Graphically, it doesn't disappoint. Ultra-realistic weather and lighting effects make this game stand head and shoulders above it's predeccesors, and it sounds far more realistic than anything in the genre thus far.As you would expect, there are a number of different modes you can play in, depending on how much time and effort you care to expend. Either stick all the available assists on and jump right in to a race,or embark on a full career (where you have to progress through the ranks from test-driver to a regular seat within a better team). With all assists off, however, this game presents an almighty challenge. The race physics are the most sophisticated in the series history, and the algorithms for tyre wear and fuel consumption are exceptionally well done. AI for other drivers is much better than ever before. The tracks are beautifully detailed and accurate, but it is the sensation of speed that this game delivers that makes this game so much fun to play. The motion blur and slightly shaking of the 'camera' as you race really adds sensation to the action. You can use a wheel with F1CE, but there is no real force feedback (FFB), which is a disappointment to anyone used to full FFB support in PS2 games such as GT4 for example. The game supports the tilt function of the new PS3 Sixaxis controller for steering, which works well, even if it is not entirely suitable for serious driving. There are a few extra goodies lurking in the game that I know of so far, including a bonus track (Jerez) as well as classic F1 cars including the 1973 Lotus 72E and a Williams or two (according to the credits in the game). Sadly, the game is based on the 2006 season, meaning that the excellent Spa circuit is not in the game but this is a minor quibble. The game is great overall, but it does suffer from one or two drawbacks. Some of the driving views leave a bit to be desired, and as you might expect, there are no major surprises in the gameplay from past games in the series. The game does not support the much-vaunted idea of using the PSP as a rear-view mirror either (although this may well be patched in at a later date). Probably the biggest downside is not really the fault of the game, but it is the lack of vibration/rumble. For legal reasons, Sony did not include the Rumble Pack hardware in the first edition of the Sixaxis controller, and hence there is no rumble available, which makes the game feel slightly weird (esp. if you are a hardened PS2 racing game addict like myself). Hopefully now that Sony and Immersion have sorted their legal wranglings, Sony will release a new version of the Sixaxis and patch in the rumble effects into the game, but this is more likely to be an inclusion in the 2007 Season edition of the game.(c) TM and [email protected]

I can't stand F1, these days it's just so boring to watch. But i can stand racing games and if like me the OTT style of games like Burnout and Motorstorm dont do much for you, you'll like F1 Championship Edition. As odd as this sounds, F1 CE is more about the driving than the racing as all the overtaking is more or less done in the first few laps untill you settle into a position. After than it's about driving consistent laps and getting your pitstop right, but dont think you can relax there. When you pit your prompted for button combinations to make your crew change tires etc, quicker you react quicker your pitstop. Before you even get to race though you do Car Evolution in the free practice. The car starts default, then you do a lap. Your crew make and adjustment to whatever area your evolving, breaks, wings, suspension, whatever. Then you go back out and try again, you pick the lap with the best setting. The best thing about this game is the career mode. You don't just jump in any team you want and start racing. You begin as a free agent and apply for one of the lower end of the grid teams untill one of them invites you for a trial where you'll have to meet some requirements if you want the drive which are usual things like beat a set lap time within a timelimit. Depending how you perform in the trial will depend where you enter the team, but it's likely to be as a test driver. Test well and you get promoted to 2nd driver, do well in the race and you'll be the number one driver. Then obviously the better you get more teams will become more interested. For a release title the graphics are superb and for the first time you get a real sense of "Woah i'm driving fast!" that i find the likes of Gran Turismo don't pull off. This game really is all about the concentration, when you first pick it up you'll be lucky if you take the same line twice around the track. There are driving aids but i don't recommend them (for any driving game for that matter) as they tend to get in the way. What will be useful are the breaking markers and highlighting the racing line.F1 CE has a lot of depth to it that i just didnt see coming, even you hate F1 i seriously recommend this.

As an avid fan of Formula One this game seemed like a no-brainer, even though i hadn't played an F1 game since F1 2000 (and that game wasn't exactly great) i decided to take the plunge and pick up the game a number of months back. And yet i haven't ever felt the urge to chuck it away like i did with the previous F1 titles. The wide range of different modes that you can play in mean that you can jump straight into a quick race or indulge in a 5 season long career and work your way up from test driver to world champion. The graphics are excellent especially in the wet as the water droplets and spray make it near impossible to see the car in front at times. The motion blur as well gives the impression of real speed. However some of the long or scenic shots of Monaco and Silverstone do look a bit basic and could be more like the London track on Gran Turismo 5.The realism is great as well with unexpected breakdowns and multi-car pile ups often befalling your rivals. The ability to pick it up and play is simple...for beginners you can simply turn on an array of assists and a virtual racing line in order to get you started. However there are quite a lot of frustrating things that could be better. The create-a-character for example has about 10 male and 10 female faces and you can edit none of them. The ability to edit and customize your face/helmet would be great and that just isn't an option. Also the game is only based on the 2006 season which menas you can't play as any of the more recent drivers like Hamilton, Glock, Nakajima, Sutil or Vettel. This also means that tracks like Spa or Singapore aren't included. The commentary provided by James Allen and Martin Brundle is also annoying and repetitive especially and James refers to me as "you".Overall however the game is very addictive and has a lot more pros than cons.It sure has kept me hooked! Can't wait for the game of the 2009 season!

I bought a PS3 console purely for this game (although I now have other games). The graphics are good (but GT5 and GRID shows it could have been better) Career mode over 5 seasons is excellent, trying to win the championship by the end. The car Evolution is good so long as you can drive consistent laps and the SIXAXIS control is surprisingly good. The annoyances though... In practice or time trial you are driving with the sun low in the sky making it it VERY hard to see where you are going, it would have been nice to select time of day! Once you enter an GP weekend in career mode you cannot save your progress until you complete the weekend, which could mean 6 hours driving! The interactive pitstops are rubbish, having to push buttons as they appear on the screen to get a good time, what has this to do with real F1? Why not just base it on how accurately you can drive into the pit box, like the real thing. And James Allan's commentary is very limited and repetitive, and refers to me as "You", on a PS3 it should be able to call me by my name (see GRID for this) and have a lot more variety in the comments. Finally there is no telemetry, so although you can adjust EVERYTHING on the car, you cannot analyse the effect, all you can do is drive and see if you are quicker or if it feels better, which is not good enough (or my driving, and indeed real F1 drivers, isn't good enough). See the PC Geoff Crammond F1GP games for how his should be Sony! However, having said all of this, it is still the best F1 game I have ever played. Well worth getting, but I am looking forward to the next PS3 F1 game, as Codemasters (GRID is by them, download the demo and see how good it is!) now have the licence, not Sony, so it will not be until 2009 but should be good.

This game is absolutely magnificent and will be difficult to beat - F1 2010 and F1 2011 haven't came anywhere near it 5 years later!Firstly, the career mode is extremely realistic with Summer Testing and different roles to play in the team from 1st driver to test driver. Your position is constantly at risk as they occasionally request you race your test driver around a certain track if you suffer a sudden lapse in form, you may be demoted to a test driver. Being a test driver requires consistency and raw pace otherwise you will be stuck there and never make a significant impact to the sport in your career, or even get dumped by the team and you will need to attempt to find another team.Secondly, the standings are rather unpredictable but there is enough of a rough grid to not defeat the object of finding a better team - if teams take it in turns winning, how do you work your way up the standings. You can compare the sectors to your opponents and work on improving them so you can level the playing field if you are falling behind. Finally, you can change your car in every way and have full control in everything from acceleration to suspension and you can even sort out your pit stops in advance. You can improve your car by 0.5 - 1.0 seconds depending on the track but it doesn't make that big an impact that you win races like there is no tomorrow. One flaw though, the irritating penalties. This is even worse than F1 2010 as they even penalise you if you go wide, but then again, there was no prequel to this game so there is absolutely nothing to compare it to.This is the only thing that give F1 2010 + F1 2011 a slight advantage.I would definitely purchase this off Amazon for approximately £4 used, but this is surely worth a tenner.

Having not experienced the F1 feeling on a console for some time, nostalgia was one of my main reasons for picking up Championship Edition on launch day - and it hasn't disappointed. Graphically stunning and with enough gameplay and car mods to satisfy any fan of the sport, this game is a must buy for petrol-heads.Jumping in with assists and racing line on is a great way to experience the joys of the game without having to worry about getting your braking perfect into corners. The graphics are amazing with realistic shadows and reflections adding that extra bit to the races - I've even found myself going out of my way not to spoil my cars paintwork with a slight nudge.Turn up the heat by switching off assists and adding damage to create an amazing challenge to your driving skills.First corner pileups are frequent as you try to get that perfect braking point into the corner. Your car will take an extraordinary amount of damage (short of losing a wheel) and this adds that extra element as trips down the pit lane will cost you big.Tired of taking on the all-be-it amazing AI? Why not jump online to take on racers from around the world? This definitely adds an extra element to the game and does a lot to break-up the linear quality of the one-player game. Rack up the points on specific servers and you'll place on their top drivers list, adding that extra competitive edge in an already competitive world.Despite being one of the background launch titles for the PS3, Formula One Championship edition succeeds were others have failed - to really make us feel that Sony's next-gen system is here to compete.

I have played many F1 games through the years, from the first F1 game on the PS1 through to F1 2006 on the PS2, the pinnacle of F1 games has been F1 97, even through the PS2 era, not one F1 game on the PS2 came close to it, now thought we have the the first 'next gen' outing on F1, to appreciate the graphical brilliance you must have a HDTV, but that is not essential. You have the usual racing modes in the game 'time trail, single race, championship) but also a career mode in which you must take trails with the like of Super Aguri and Torro Rosso, if you are successful you will then become a 'test driver' in which you must test out various settings on a car and beat the lap times to succeed,if you do then you have a chance to be the 2nd driver and prove your worth, from there on its all down to you how far you go.The game also features an online mode where you can raise against other racers onlineThe gameplay is excellent, you can customise virtually anything in the game, from weather conditions to breaking aids, each car is different, the Super Aguri struggles to get into top gear where as the Ferrari does so with ease, you even control the pit crew when you enter the pitsThe weather effects are jaw dropping, when it rains you can hardly see what is happening on the track infront of you as the water blurs the full screen, you have to see it to believe it and the crash damage is fairly accurate too, getting round Monaco in one clean lap is very harda couple of small downsides, no safetycar (although every other flag situation is in the game and the commentary is a bit patchy

There is not a lot of choice of Formula One games this generation. In fact, there is none. This is it. It is still a very good game, if not a bit dated these days. You get the usual choice of single race, a race weekend, a full champonship with a driver of your choice or start a career as yourself. The data is based on the 2006 season so there is no Hammy or Brawn GP.The graphics are outstanding, even by todays standard (it is a PS3 launch release) and the sound effects etc are excellent. Essentially this is a port of the PS2 game tarted up but the handling and presentation is better. The game is no pushover though. There are plenty of options to tinker with settings and such like but it will take a bit of practice to win your first championship. The interactive pit-stops are a good touch determining your pit time.Included is a multiplayer on-line which is still popular and very good fun. No voice comms is a bit odd. You can post messages.Overall, an excellent racing game. My only complaint is the career mode has overly fussy menus and gets bogged down in time trials, testing and other useless tasks that you can't skip. All I want to do is race a championship as me!Whether the new Codemasters game can beat this remains to be seen.

I got this game as I am a big fan of F1 and to be honest, i was just gonig to wait for the new one out next year, but thought why not try this as I saw it for sale for £10. Glad I did, it is a very good entertaining racing game. Obviously the game is of the 2006 season so it does not have updated teams, drivers and new rule changes etc, but with what it does have is still good enough. To me I think the controls are spot on, and you do get used to them after a few goes. The graphics are stunning and the cars and tracks look so beautiful! Gameplay is smooth and the sound is nice and smooth too. There are loads of options in this game from quick race, to time trial, to grand prix weekend,to season and carer mode to online play, and then you get the options of tweaking your car and setting the difficulty level and wheather you want to have help text, aids, crash on or off and laods more, but just to make a quick point on the help aids, I thought they were very helpful and a good thing to maybe have on first few races.I give it 4 out of 5 overall, the reason 4 is due to the lack of commentary and the create a racer is not brilliant at all, but the game is worth gettin before the 2009 one is out next year from a different developer.

A lot of people give this game a hard time, which I cannot understand why. They say it does this and that etc, but until you give it 5 minutes and actually take a look under the bonnet, then and only then will you appreciate it for what it is.Graphically its outstanding, without a doubt, and anyone who says its not is not giving it an un biased opinion. I am not a F1 fan at all, does not interest me, but I like driving games, and as a driving game its spot on.Its not motortorm, this is a different game, but when your on the starting lane, press the rear view camera from your car, you see the heat haze from the engine, distorting the image, realistic , very. You can customise just about everything, from the amount of damage to the driving aids, so you can have no driving aids, full damage, and if you crash then you crash and thats it.The red on Scumachers ferrari, even mirrors the track side objects as you drive round, very very impressive to watch.Driving in the rain, and the rain effect, has to be the single most impressive graphics effect I have ever seen in 16 years of gaming, its simply stunning. If ytour not a driving game fan, then it won't appeal, but if you are then its a right result, and all for just 30 quid.

I ordered F1 Championship Edition as I was not pleased with F1 2010. Although CE is an older game this matters little as the graphics, game physics and engine note are all superior to the Codemasters effort. As soon as I inserted the disc in to the PS3 I was prompted to download a software update, which I did. The update was in fact a patch to update the game to have force feedback. The lack of which was a complaint from other people from reviews that I had read before buying the game. My version now does have force feedback.I would recommend this game to anyone that lows F1 Gtand Prix as its very playable for all levels. Who cares if the drivers are not current.Once you've mastered and memorised the tracks then you'll see your lap times go down. A lot of people give up on F1 games as they are too difficult, but perseverance pays off. Turn in early and hit the apex on the bends and you'll enjoy there game. Great graphics and the closest I've heard to an F1 engine in a game, especially the sequential gear changes. My only complaint, and it's a very small one. Is that it doesn't appear that you can save car set ups. GREAT GAME. BUY IT

This is an excellent game - and being an avid Formula One Grand Prix fan it is easier for me to appreciate just how good this is. It is impressive graphics wise, quite a step forward from the old PS2, and the game play is good also. You have several different modes, a quick race, a championship, a test day, or a five year career mode. The game incorporates all the good elements of the 2006 FIA Formula One world championship, drivers and cars alike, although if there is one complaint it would be the fact that Juan Montoya is still in the McLaren, but obviously the game went to the shelves before that could be rectified. The cars handle and drive well, and can be altered and set up nicely to drive excellently.Just a little complaint again, would be the sometimes jagged nature of the steering, but it's a minor niggle. There is also an F1TV mode, which allows you to see an entire grand prix race played out on your screen, just as you would on a race weekend. This is a good extra, one that I have always appreciated, and can get surprisingly exciting at "crucial" points in races!!All in all a good game, and definetly recommended.

if you're the type of person who likes realistic racing games then this is probably the game for you. The mechanics of the game, the graphics everything combines and makes it feel almost real. you have to be very careful at what kind of speeds you go around corners as that is where the race is won or lost. you get to control your own pit stop crew aas well and can choose when to make a pit stop.i have to admit im not a particularly big F1 fan and i only really get racing games for 2 player, which is why i wont be keeping it. personally i enjoy games like need for speed, midnight club etc. but if you're after something that has an element of realism to it and someting which can be pretty addictive then this is the game for you.theres 2 main drawbacks to the game 1)it feel pretty dated not in its gameplay but in that some of the drivers are still are still with their old teams (e.g. alonso at renault etc). 2) still havent figured out how to get into 2 player.
