Well, I am shocked. Personally I couldn't be more surprised at some of the poor reviews this game has received so far. Admittedly, the graphics are not at the same level as Gran Turismo PSP (which is a very `pretty' game) or even, if I'm honest, F1 2006 on the PSP, however overall I'd have to say on balance this is a very good portable racing game.Of course it's not in the same league as rFactor or the fantastic Grand Prix 4 but for a PSP game it IS pretty good. The controls are a bit fiddly at first and given that you're going to be using buttons for the throttle and brake, leaving the traction control on does improve the game play significantly, but if, like myself, you are a keen player of racing Sims it's not going to take you long to adapt to the handling characteristics and controls. Oh, and in response to someone else's review, no you can't just take the corners at `fast speeds'....luckily the games programmers included `brakes' - which I understand are standard on most modern F1 cars.....The game is far more enjoyable long term than the frankly disappointing Gran Turismo PSP (which had good graphics, a good handling model....but no actual game to speak of) and with the difficulty set to maximum anyone is going to be hard pressed to achieve the award of Ultimate Champion (achievable after winning 8 driver championships) in a short space of time. The only gripe, other than the psp's hardware limitations of digital accelerating and braking, is that the career mode only lasts 3 seasons - could it not have been designed to role on indefinitely with your performance over the course of each season determining your options for the following season? (Maybe something for F1 PSP 2010?)Had the game had the visual qualities of Gran Turismo PSP then five stars would have been guaranteed - but really that's the only reason I've gone for four stars overall. It'll definitely be in the UMD drive for a while yet!

I bought the game yesterday from GAME. Had a play on it and started my first season of three. The graphics aren't the best in the world but who needs good graphics if the gameplay is excellent? The controls are very hit and miss. You can either use the D-Pad or Analog stick, which ever you prefer. I have found though that one minute you are under steering the next you are over steering. It can be very sensitive, although you can change the sensitivity to what you feel most comfortable with. Also using only the X to accelerate and square to brake makes things a bit difficult as it is hard to get the balance of throttle coming out of corners, whereas on a different platform such as the PS3 if you were to use the R2 and L2 buttons to accelerate and brake you have more control over how much throttle you use. Using the O button to activate K.E.R.S can be a bit tricky too unless you have big fingers as you have to sort of align your thumb to press X and O at the same time or use your first finger to activate it, which can be even more awkward. The game incorporates use of the K.E.R.S system which can be great although I don't know if it is optional in some cars, having only raced in the BMW. The K.E.R.S in F1 2009, unlike in real-life, reloads itself every lap.For the die-hard F1 fan you can change a multitude of settings, ranging from weather, tyre wear, fule usage, damage and penalties to give you a more authentic feel.I would rate it 8/10, the controls can be awkward and controlling your car is a bit tricky. If you really can't wait for the latest F1 game for the PS3 I suggest buying it to wet your appetite.

Sorry, but I do not get the negative publicity for this game. I have been playing it for a while now and I still like everything about it - the circuits are very well rendered, the cars look good and when I started career mode there was a DEFINITE difference between the handling of the 2 cars I was offered to drive (Toro Rosso or a BMW-Sauber). I have seen reviews where this is compared to the 2006 season version, well I can tell you that this is better - I could not play the old version for long because of the way the physics engine was set up - it made me feel motion sick, this does not at all. The cars are responsive and changes you make to setup really do make a difference,as do the number of driver aids you can play with.I understand that some of the reviewers are upset by the lack of commentary, but to be honest I turn that off anyway - when I am racing, I only want to hear my race engineer (do the drivers listen to the commentary as they are racing - I think not).Overall I think this is an improvement on past Formula 1 games and a s a long term F1 fan (I'm 41 and been following it since I was 7) I can happily say that this game embodies the spirit and feel of the sport I love. To it's detractors I say one thing - it is on a PSP, don't you think Codemasters have done a good job to squeeze as much as they have into the limitations of a handheld? I gave it 5 Stars for a good reason - this IS a good game.

When I bought this game for the PSP I was aware it has had largely luke warm reviews.Overall I enjoy the game, I find it quite challenging and it is not as smooth and easy to play as the famous (and frankly better) F1 06 but that's not necessarily a bad thing, I like a challenge and don't like games to be too easy to master. It isn't perfect and could certainly do with improving, as other reviewers have already pointed out the graphics aren't terrific (but c'mon people it's a PSP not an Xbox 360) a career only lasts three seasons which is frustrating. For me probably the most frustrating feature is a lack of variety, especially during career. The season is always dominated by Jenson Button,he comes first or second in every single race which means you really have to fight hard to beat him, literally no other drivers really get a look in which makes it boring after more than one season. Whichever race you know the car breathing down your neck with be Jenson in his Brawn. In 06 it could be anyone. The co-drivers during a season are infuriating; when I signed for Ferrari in Season 3 of career mode I was winning every race and earning maximum points but was still failing to win a constructors title because my co driver (Massa) was failing to finish in the top eight resulting in Ferrari finishing second or third. Very annoying.overall a fun little racing game but definately won't satisfy a hardcore F1 fan.

I've only had the game for about a week, but I've really enjoyed it so far. The fact that all the cars have KERS [as opposed to some or none] and that there is no commentary really hasn't affected my enjoyment of the game at all.I was a little concerned before buying the game about some of the negative reviews it has received here, but I'm really glad I went ahead and bought it. After playing Grand Turismo PSP, I was also a little worried about how the race engine would hold up in comparison, but it feels solid and meaty. You really feel the difference when you switch to the softer tyres and every change you make to your car's setup has a noticable effect.OK, it's last season, but (almost)all the tracks are still there in good detail, plus you have the added benefit of last year's rules, which to me were more fun (refuelling during the race, start 3rd qualifying with race fuel etc). The career mode seems a little short (only 3 seasons) and the opponent AI can be infuriatingly single-minded when it comes to following the racing line, but these are minor problems for such a good game.

I have to say I'm glad I bought this game before alot of the negative reviews starting appearing here about this game, because I was also a fan of f1 2006 but I think this game is better.Admittedly, the graphics aren't anything special and certainly no better than 06, but for me the gameplay and the challenge of this game is excellent. For me, the problem with f1 06 was that the easy level was a bit too easy and the next level up too hard. This game gets things just perfect.I receommend switching on tyre/fuel degradation, damage and failures. That's when it really comes into it's own as a great simulation and a great challenge.I think the next improvement for the game makers is to introduce more uncertainty with the weather into the races, with the player having to make real time tyre choices over slicks/intermediates/wets as he comes into his pit stop. Finally, a criticism is that why is the career mode limited to just 3 years. This is ridiculous it should be more like 10 or 15 years.

First of all, I would like to play down the other two reviewers who gave this a one or two star rating.Okay not all the cars had the KERS system in the 2009 F1 season, but that is how it should have been. The Pros:-1. The penalties are real. If you block other driver(s) in an the qualifying then you get dropped 5 places in the race.2. The pit crews look real. The uniforms are kitted out in the racing team's colours. (Unlike F1 2006)3. The detailing on the cars is realistic.4. The qualifying sessions are like in real life. If in the first session and second session you pass the racing line before the end you can complete your lap. (Not possible in F1 2006)5. Graphics are acceptable for PSP.6.Game play is great.I cannot say that there are any cons. A least not any I can think of.Not a big deal, KERS recharges at the beginning of each lap.

This is a superb racing game, its got the lot, sense of speed, all the tracks, good graphics and plenty of options and game choices. I don't know what people expect these days, considering this is a PSP game, Codemasters have done a brilliant job of squeezing as much info on that UMD as possible. The handling is fine, you simply need not turn the stick left and right like a maniac playing Dirt, this is F1, the cars are meant to be responsive. If you like F1 then buy it, ive played it every day for nealry 3 months while commuting into work, makes a dull train journey fly by!

This is the best racing game for PSP whether you are a fan of Formula one or not! There is so much to do; obviously the usual racing season, but also challenges and multi-player too! You can win trophies in career mode, and if you don't get one in a race, or just a bronze, you can aim next season to go for a higher one. Also in career mode, you do trials for different racing teams to try and become a driver for them.I totally reccomend this game for anyone who is looking for a racing game. There is so much to do, and it is difficult to get board of it!

30.11.2009

I have to say i was a bit worried after reading the negativity in most of the reviews i read. But after a few days of playing it its superb! Loving the challenge mode at the moment and its very satisfying when you learn the circuit and start chucking in some good laps. This i one i will keep till a better version comes out. The graphics a slightly ropey yes and even a top sim player like myself i struggle to get a time close to pole but love the challenge of it. Not really for younger kids.

I got this game for chistmas with a PSP. I was expecting a lot from this game because i had been waiting for the game for long time and it delivered. The game has great graphics and good gameplay. I could not stop playing on it, it was amazing. It did not dissapiont it had lots of fun challengs and a good career it was slightly harder than i expected but that was fun. It is defenatly worth getting!

2.10.2010

It's great, the noise, the cars except they all have K.E.R.S but who cares. The only bad point is the graphics are poor. The tracks are exactly the same as the ones on other car racing games and it is great. A great buy even if the graphics are a bit dodgey.

4.7.2010

when i had alook too see wot people had said about this game i did nt know if i would like but its fanstastic people say its hard too control but i find it good i would tell anybody too get it

31.1.2010

brillant game, lots of fun and very enjoyable to play. i bought this for my grandson of 7 years old as a christmas present and he loves it and also plays it quite often

14.1.2010

I think the game is great because my kid, for whom I actually bought it, is playing with it all the time, maybe too much: he's forgetting his homework too often.
