Like a lot of people, I was brought into the world of Final Fantasy through the legend that was VII. I played through that and loved the whole thing, and still hold it in high regard as the game that brought me to the world of RPGs.I was less fussed on VIII, but fell in love with IX - a game I feel has never been bettered and works as a target to aim for.Since then, I fell out of love with the franchise. X left me cold, and while I tried hard with XIII, it just never felt right. From the early image of XV, when it began to look like the game we eventually got, I found myself intrigued... Keeping an eye on the game and wondering whether it would prove to be a long-awaited good FF.I knew when it came out that I wanted to play it,and when the price dropped a little (and I knew there were still a couple of months until ME Andromeda came out) I took the plunge. I am now some 85+ hours into it, mopping up the last few post ending tasks and have to say it is one of the best games I have played in a long time.First and foremost, this is an incredibly beautiful game; and there will be so many times you have to stop and look about at the world you are in.Secondly, and most significantly - this is a great game. It's not perfect - there are a few niggles here and there, and there will be some battles where you are fighting the camera as much as your foe...but it is so easy to see past all that.It is very different to the FF of old, but from Chocobos to Cactuars, and the ever present Biogs, Wedge and Cid - it becomes a wonderful re-imagining of the FF world. The plot focuses on young Prince Noctis' path from young pretender to fully fledged king, and is genuinely one of the best game plots I have enjoyed in a long time. The dynamic between Noctis and his three friends Gladiolus, Prompto and Ignis is brilliant, and you journey along drawn into this tale of friendship that is so well imagined and developed thay you can't help but feel for them. Throw in a wonderfully sinister bad guy and a few epic plot twists and battles; and you have one of the best RPGs in a while.Gone are the criticisms of there hardly being any side quests in a FF game, as when this opens up you will nearly always have 2-3 on the go (and I must have had about 10 ongoing at one point), and while the battle system isn't the greatest, it's well worked and (apart from when you have multiple baddies in a small space - such as Costlemark) it flows pretty well. There is also the multimedia outlets of the Kingsglaive film and Brotherhood series that really expand on a world and (if you take to them like me) on the characters you come to love and enjoy spending time with.Overall, this is one heck of a game.It sets itself up as a Final Fantasy for old and new, and it does it brilliantly. Those new to the series will be in for a wonderful experience and a great game set in an incredible world; and to us old timers it's a brilliant new imagining of a FF with lots of new things to draw you in, and tons of the old faithful to keep you there. This is one of the best games I have played in a long time, and I am genuinely sad that I have nearly finished it for good... But you can be sure I will be squeezing every last thing I can from this, and the characters are so good, it's hard to say goodbye. So well done Square Enix, it was a long time coming (especially for those of us waiting for a guddun since IX), but I absolutely loved it.

Final Fantasy XV has come under a lot of criticism in the past for it being "unfinished". Whilst partly true, the missing story aspects of the game had been added in with free and paid DLC (Downloadable content), providing the player with the missing story and new gameplay experiences. The Royal Edition gives everything previously released as well as new things, providing everyone with the best Final Fantasy XV experience.Final Fantasy XV itself is a fantastic RPG game, to new comers of the franchise as well as veterans. Your goal is to reclaim your throne alongside your brothers in arms - taking you on an epic journey through fantastic sights and a wonderful story, that provides some real tear jerking moments.I found myself to be emotionally invested with the characters and how they develop throughout the game. Final Fantasy XV is an open world filled with many monsters and places to explore. There is a consistent flow of interactions between the party of characters making it feel very real. The environments are beautiful - I personally love to run around and explore in open world games to look at the scenery and this game doesn't disappoint. The combat of the game is so satisfying, performing strings of attacks without being hit by an enemy feels fantastic! It keeps a good flow and personally for me I was never bored of it. It is not a turn based RPG, it allows you to freely attack and move around whenever you wish. There is an option to switch between characters in battle which provides a different gameplay style depending on the character selected, which switches up the game to your specific style - you may prefer a ranged approach for example, given by playing as the character Prompto. Each DLC as stated before gives you a new experience, showing off new stories for the other party members as well as multiplayer coop expansion all linked into the story. Whilst all of the Episodes are fantastic, my personal favourite was Episode Ignis. The multiplayer expansion whilst not amazing, is still fun to play with friends. You fight to secure the future for the chosen king, taking you and friends on a journey against many monsters to protect the people using your own customisable character. You'll fight many monsters and some are seriously challenging, which was so fun.Like i said before it comes with everything available to the game at a really decent price considering this factor. I would really recommend those who were put off by the game being "unfinished" to pick up the game now in this form - it will surprise you with how fun it really is.Pros:-A fantastic story.-Beautiful graphics and scenary.-Lovable characters.-A satisfying and smooth combat system.-100+ hours of content.-All content is available at a great price.-More support for the game coming - more updates to be added in the future.-The soundtrack to the game is fantastic, also including soundtracks from previous games to listen to on the go!Cons:-A few quests are rinse and repeat, which can become boring at times.-Occasional FPS drops, whilst nothing bad it is noticable (Using the Xbox one X and PS4 Pro versions have no problem with the FPS)

Final Fantasy XV is a breath of fresh air in the Final Fantasy series and more than exceeded my expectations for it.The protagonist, Noctis Lucis Caelum, is a headstrong and likeable character, whose role in the game is galvanised by the support of his three best friends who travel around with him.The graphics of this game are beautiful, and there were no major frame-rate drops. The monster design is one of the key strengths of the game, and it is interesting to see how the type of monster you are fighting depends on whether it is night or day.The world is vast, and beautiful, and your car, the Regalia, is an interesting twist to this game. Admittedly,it is perhaps an odd addition to a game series so focussed on a futuristic and magical setting, yet this is redeemed by the witty banter and friendship of Noctis and his friends, as they comment on in-game affairs and the local setting. Despite this, the trade-off for such a vast and incredible world are the rather annoying loading screens. How can it be a truly open-world experience when there is a loading screen when you get in the car, get out of the car, travel to a new region, or even travel to a location 200 ft from you, which often takes a couple of seconds?Fortunately, the story, tangible environment, and combat redeem the game. The story revolves around Noctis avenging his father, King Regis, death, by the Niflheim Empire by working with his friend and Princess Lunafreya, his betrothed, to defeat the Niflheim Empire and reclaim the crystal which is the life-source of his kingdom. The main quest is rather too linear, in that there are no sub-quests that branch off from the main quest line, and you can effectively beat the game without playing any secondary quests at all. Despite this, there is enough diversity within the game's environment to entertain any gamer. Whilst the majority of secondary quests are essentially find-and-retrieve missions, they are fun to complete, especially the Car Customisation quests, which allows you to improve the performance of your car, which, trust me, you will need!!! There are also the traditional hunting quests which are numerous and difficult enough to entertain any avid gamer.Perhaps the best aspect of the game, in my opinion, is the combat. The game developers, Square-Enix, replaced the traditional method of turn-based combat with a new, rather barbaric Hack-and-Slash format. This is so much fun and easier to manage, as it gives you complete control of the battlefield, meaning that you can easily dodge enemy attacks, and with the press of a button, attack with a wide-variety of weapons, such as great-swords, polearms, and longswords. It allows a much more dynamic fighting system without the limitations of a standard turn-based RPG.In summation, Final Fantasy XV is a welcome change of pace for the game series and is sure to peak anyone's interests, whether you are a seasoned gamer, or a new-comer to RPGs in general.

Iv read more than a few reviews talking about the lack of feel of a final fantasy game and "where is the fantasy part", for me the game had EVERYTHING a final fantasy should have, the technology felt and looked like ff6, 7 and 8, graphically it is a master piece, combat is fun and intuitive, the world is large and invites exploration and the story is spectacular. For me i couldnt help but notice the similarities to 8 in the dress and feel of the world. Yes its set in a modern day with phones and tablets, cars and trains but lets not forget the old greats were too. When i found my first magic elemancy draw point i was immediately reminded of finding my first fire draw point in final fantasy 8 Ifrits cave and it took me back.No more FF13 stigma connected to the final fantasy franchise, in this one the developers truly made something special, mixing the old with the new and they did it beautifully. I never want this game to end.Brilliant game, no question about it. From the second it started I felt drawn in and loved every second. The world is huge and the characters all have their own rich back story and I felt for each of them. To truly know and love this game I recommend doing as I did and watch the ff xv anime series and movie brotherhood and kingsglaive, they give much more light to why things are happening and who is who, opening the world dramatically. Brotherhood really adds to the interaction between and care the 4 main protagonists have for and with each other. The characters are so developed that you really can imagine the devastation Noct must feel at the news he receives (end of duscea demo). The game itself makes you feel like your there and engaged with the characters and world, interacting with people of all walks of life along the way. The game is set in a world where modern technology meets magic, not dissimilar from final fantasy 8's tech meets magic with a dash of final fantasy 7 and a hint of ff 6, I know a lot of people would prefer more 7 than 8 but this isn't a bad thing as all the story telling of 7 with the majesty of 8's world and hidden corners are here to be seen and explored. I know I'm referring to the old games a lot and again this is a testament to what they have created with this game, they have truly in my eyes captured the magic that growing up made me love the final fantasy franchise that magic 12 and 13 seemed to lack. Well the magics back with 15 and I'm sure it will invite new fans of the series. So far I haven't come across any draw backs to this game in my opinion so I don't understand why it would get any less than full stars.

Final Fantasy XV doesn't need much of an introduction and the game itself doesn't have one. A very short cut scene and then you're in a desert with a broken down car, listening to the characters berate each other. The pace at the start is relaxed and allows you to settle in to the role of Prince Noctis. Learn the controls, get used to the combat and explore the world. When you focus on the campaign it develops quickly and doesn't fail to deliver on some truly awe inspiring scenes: exactly what you want from a game titled Final Fantasy. You can really see and feel the Japanese artistry behind the game.Although at first it feels as if all you do is sit in the car and go camping, soon the world opens up,your level increases, you gain powerful weapons. The game successfully creates a sense of being a small drop in a big ocean, with Noctis' naivity painfully obvious, but as he develops through the game his character starts to shine through, his journey to becoming a King subtly happening before you, a demonstration to the skill behind the writing, that can sometimes be missing from western writing.Personally I enjoyed the way the car is utilised and relied upon, you can customise it to a certain extent. The driving is scripted so you won't be having any GTA moments with this game. To make up for the linear use of the car is the chance to hire Chocobo's, these quirky giant birds give a real surreal feel to a game that at face value comes across as serious. You can also customise your teams birds. Each character has their own personal specialisation: Noctis fishes, Gladio survivalist, Ignis cooking and Prompto photography. Prompto and Ignis will be the most used, with Prompto's photos being viewable and saved as a way of documenting your journey. Ignis will cook whenever you camp, which will be countless times in a play through. Gladio survival skills are always in the background, finding items after battles, personally I hardly noticed most of the time. Noctis' fishing is entirely optional, but accessible with side quests available.Overall a fantastic game, makes a nice change of pace from all the shooters and action games dominating the market, with their gimmicks and graphics.Although it's not without its flaws. Adults will see the awkwardness of the characters, the attempt at ladiness can be corny at times, but no worse than most video games. As far as RPG's go: 10 out of 10.

This is my first time playing a Final Fantasy game and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.The story is superb and once you get used to the controls the combat feels very natural and smooth.I have 3 gripes about the game. First that your car (the Regalia) is far too slow and unless you want to get caught out at night (inadvisable if you are below level 30) you need to use the car to travel just about everywhere. Second is that half of the main story is very linear and as soon as you complete act 8, you don't have any option to explore the open world until you complete the finale (act 14), this takes a good 8-10 hours to complete the linear portion, that being said the linear story portion is still very good (make sure you are at least 10 levels above target at the end of act 8 though, else you'll suffer for it later). The third gripe is that some of the side quests can be a little dry and repetitive.Groaning out of the way, the combat is smooth, the main story and some of the side quests are excellent, the graphics are very good, the voice acting and facial tracking is spot on and the characters are all very well done and feel human, even the minor characters. To address some common complaints:I haven't noticed a single instance of graphical trouble in over 40 hours of play on the Xbox One, the scenery does go by perhaps a tad quickly in the car, but I did not find that off putting. As for the loading screen, when you consider the size of the open world a 20-30 second loading screen really isn't a problem worth complaining about. The loading time is no worse than the larger maps of loading Dragon Age Inquisition or The Witcher 3 and these two are still it's main competition. Until consoles have 20+Gb processing power you will get big loading screens for open worlds (and by that time graphics will have probably improved further anyway). All in all it is a great game and I heartily recommend it.

Do not worry - French on the box but the game is in EnglishI recently finished FF7 remake and was eager for more, so despite this having not the best reviews I decided to give it a shot and I was completely blown away by how good this isI thoroughly enjoyed the 7 remake but one of my gripes was that it didn't really open up even after completion - this however gives you (encourages you even) to fully explore the vast and wonderful open worldI'm not the type of person who likes to rush through games just to complete them and I think if you just rush through the main campaign with this game you will be missing out - it's quite obvious when playing that the developers wanted you to spend hoursnavigating the enormous setting that they have created and I did not get bored doing soI found the story and world building to be very good - that said the actual plot seems secondary to the main theme of the game, which is the bonds built between the 4 protagonists through the trials and adventures they are on (the ending hits you right in the feels)The combat initiallly seems a little clunky (Probably because I'd just spent months playing through DMC 5 which is very slick) but as you get to grips with it - it becomes a lot easier and smootherOverall - I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to sink a lot of time into a game, I feel it's one of those that you get out what you put in. The original release didn't get high praise as it wasn't complete but the Royal edition is a very rewarding experience - take your time and enjoy it

I'll preface this review by saying I am playing on a PS4 Pro.I will also mention than despite my level of hype for another Final Fantasy game, I have not finished this one. I suspect I went through 2/3 of the story before loosing interest. The game and I just didn't 'click'First of all the game is gorgeous but will very often make my PS4 pro sound like a Jet-Fighter plane trying to take off.The world is gorgeous, the main characters in the cut-scenes are gorgeous, your bro-car is gorgeous, the sky, ... etc. You get it, it is a very pretty game.I really enjoy the first part of the game. Everything is relaxing, you are on a road trip with your bros, some camping, some fishing.Doing some side-mission pest control on the side to kill the time. It's all good and for some reason I really enjoyed that. But then the fire nation attacked and ... wait no. That's something else. But then another country attack your home country ? I am not too sure what happened there but apparently this was explained in the movie which came out at the same time as the game.Personally I am not a huge fan of games who gives me homework to enjoy the story so I skipped that.Anyway shenanigans happens and while the story isn't exceptionally good, it is also not exceptionally bad. It's alright. The fighting is a lot more dynamic than previous Final Fantasy games but I have never felt it really worked and was a bit clunky. It is alright though and I can appreciate the series trying to do something new.

* possible spoilers. As a moderate fan of the final fantasy series but not of the newer games I was dubious as to whether I would like this one, however it had me hooked from the start. Most importantly It had personality and heart which I feel was missing from recent releases. Visually it is beautiful and travelling long distances whether by car, on foot or by chocobo, I felt immersed and like the world had depth. Battle system is simple yet fun and helps reinforce the feeling of brotherhood. The individual skills, fishing, photography and finding new ingredients for recipes are welcome distractions when the story gets a bit heavy. I still don't know what the point in gladiolus skill was..The main characters are mostly likable alough sometimes nonsensical in their behaviour, I wish they had been fleshed out a little. Some side character like iris felt a little pointless. Ardyn was a fun villain and my favourite non party character. Downsides to the game for me where that summons were epic when they happened but didn't really feel integral to the game And i never really embraced the magic/draw system also chapter 13 was long and painful but maybe thats the point. The feeling when i finished was sadness, sadness that it was over and I didnt play longer and sadness generally, its a sad story.

A brilliant game. The graphics are lovely as always and the creatures are wild, imaginative and beautiful. It starts strong, then flashes forward, then back again. There's an amazing amount of open world freedom - which does have some glitches, but don't they all. The "driving" is quite disappointing, since it's mostly just on auto drive to each location if you hold down a button and is glued to the roads. There are a lot of skills - different ones too - to home in on including photography, foraging, fishing, fighting and more. The fighting could have been improved dramatically, and quite frankly the "finesse" score seems completely random rather than based on an actual ranking. There is a distinct lack of depth to the fighting with very basic blocking and sparring moves which are "spruced up" by camera angles and graphics. The camera angles often get stuck or glitch out. Later in the game, you come out of open world and into a series of corridors. As always, the characters seem very "repetetive" saying the same sort of things without any actual depth or development to themselves. The storyline does remain interesting and less predictable which is a plus. Your allies do die at some points. But you'll have to play it to find out more.Honestly, I loved the cat the most.

I don't usually write reviews on release day but after playing this all day I felt I had to do just that. For me this is the best game on the current generation of consoles. It's been a long time coming as any Final Fantasy fan will now. Not only for the long time this was in development but because of some of the underwhelming Final Fantasy titles released in recent times. This game really does live up to the huge reputation that Final Fantasy set itself in the early years right up to number 12 I'd say. This genuinely feels like a next gen Final Fantasy with many new aspects of game play compared to previous titles. If you are new to the series do not be concerned as there is little in common with previous FF games. It's set in a large open world like you would expect. The combat feels innovative, fresh and fluid. The characters are interesting with a genuine feel of friendship between each other. Visuals are stunning. The story already has me gripped. The soundtrack lives up to the high standards set by the franchise. I have nothing negative to say about this game at all. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. If the entire game continues like this we could have a classic for the ages with this one. Love it!

The more I’ve played the more I’ve appreciated this one. I came to this late after playing and 100% Final fantasy VII Remake, and I think this one even does a few things that one didn’t do so well. For one, this ran at 60fps on PS5, which helps the combat when it gets busy, especially in where there can he be a lot going on.I liked its open world, which had more to do in it that I’d come to expect, as in quest after quest, hunts, dungeons etc. I liked the side quests more than FF7 Remake for the most part. The story probably makes sense to some, but it didn’t to me, but it wasn't the most important to me.The combat is very different from FF7 Remake, but I even got into this in the end. It’s a little more tactical and deeper than at first appearances if you care to explore it and the sizeable skill tree. The dlc is also decent in my opinion, you have episodes that are character centric, and you get a whole multiplayer thing, which is a whole game in itself. As at writing I’m almost 100% done with everything and can say it’s definitely value for money at its current price. There’s a lot of game here.

I played alot of the old final fantasy with seven being my favorite, this has become my favourite since 7. A vaste land to explore loads of side missions, good main story, charectors which work well together.A brilliant new fighting system which works well even tho all your doing is using x and b but you change your weapons whenever during combat with the d pad.Combine magics together using elements and items found in the world, i have played for over 20 hours and its really good.Square enix have made good with this final fantasy. They have combined old parts from previous games into this but added alot of new elements which at first your bit like hmmmm not sure if i like this and miss turn based action, but after while you kinda feel like this is how the old games should of been... massive!Very good game impressed looking to be my fav game this year by far! I would reccomend to old fans and to new comers!

With content boasting an Off-Road Regalia, Royal Vessel boat control, in-game additional cutscenes and an expansion to the now famous Insomnia City Ruins it's twice the game it originally was. No, I don't believe it needed another disc as a release - seeing as there's still 4 DLC on the way - but the content is still worthy of praise. Guess this is not the definitive edition and if there's another edition after this, I would consider that a rip-off personally...Long term fan of FF (the 3D ones)... Loved FF7, FFVIII, 9 and 6... 10 too, even 13 was ok but FFXV still shines above the rest for my personal taste. Loved the fast pace combat, Loved the adventure, Loved the effortless flow into dungeons.I'd give this version of the game a 8.5/10 compared to the base game which was about 7/10. Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild is a recommendation for fans of this.

Quite a strange game seems to lack focus on what it wants to be. It would seem like they have deliberately made the game extremely more streamlined than I thought in every aspect from customisation to combat and exploration, this is quite a shallow game and it does not make any sense as to why it is that way. The grapthics and visuals look good enough and animation is great but fail to deliver the emotion conveyed when up close. Overall i was quite shocked and bewildered by how this game turned out i expected more.Good points- game looks good- chocobos- very different from other titles ive playedBad points- lack of depth in all things to the point of being lazy- story is poorly paced and rushedthrough- restrictions on exploration with no real reason to explore
