I was playing the game since open beta and then I bought collectors edition and have been playing ever since. The game is fun and addicting and given my experience with Final Fantasy XI , Square-Enix can only make it better. Here is why.GameplayThis isnt like other mmos , for example World of warcraft , the game doesnt have many in game tutorials outside a battle tutorial and leve quest tutorial, there is FAQ in Lodestone site but you begin the game in one of the 3 starting cities with nothing more than the class you selected gear and an entry in the journal, the rest is what you make it , you have to go out and discover the world you just entered by your own or with other friends online.Levequests can help you gather money and experience for a Class there are many different levequest ,for gatherers and crafters too , you can do 8 of them every 36 hours. The Class system the game uses is something unique and interesting if you buy a sword and equip it you change class to being a gladiator if you buy a pickaxe and do the same you become a miner, Class change is being defined by your main weapon. If you learned a skill from another class , say pugilist you can use it as gladiator too , some skills are class restricted though , but even with that the modifications you can do are a lot.In this game you allocate you stats the way you see fit , you can even reallocate them in a limited rate though , not all at once.Crafts are something amazing but also time consuming here. And they are needed in the game a lot. A single recipe passes through many types of craft and there is a need for cooperation or taking on more than one craft. The crafting process as well as the gathering one passes through a unique minigame and your actions given the situation affects the outcame of the crafting process. The battle system is engaging with a tactical twist , You can choose what action you take from the action palette and then it is executed you can select an action repeatedly but there is a limit named stamina , the stamina gauge represents how many attacks you can do repeatedly , it recovers over time so its up to you how to manage it, either using quick attacks or more powerful ones that use more stamina and tactical points that you get by attacking or getting attacked by an enemy.GraphicsI dont think I have seen a game more beautiful than Final Fantasy xiv not even Aion can match it , You will see and explore a lot of different landscapes here and I am sure that there will be more in the future.SoundThe character sounds may be a little peculiar but the music is just great with a variety of combat tracks per area and awesome area soundtracks. You cant go wrong with the game music being made by Nobuo Uematsu.StoryThe main quests of the game so far is fun but is restricted by rank , meaning you need to be a certain lvl to access the next part of it.It is being told through cutscenes and quests. The background story of this world is amazing and I think there are a lot more stories to be told in it.I think you can find a lot to do in this game and this is just only the begining.I think it is targeted to mature audiences and I say that because the game can be harsh for those that are keen on being hold by hand. You can find alot that you can enjoy if you have the time for an mmo-rpg.This is your tale so make the best out of it!

I've been playing this game since alpha (yes Alpha, not just Beta), so I'm not judging this game on just a few days of play. I understand that the game has been revamped, and for the most part SE have made several improvements since the days of alpha. For one, the game is much more stable (as you would expect in the release version), but it does still suffer from the random crashing. However, I am not here to review the differences.I like the combat system, you can't just go 'AFK' and make a sandwich while your little person swings away. I suppose it is similar to the ATB gauge in some Final Fantasys, each skill/action costs a certain amount of the bar and once the bar depletes all the way down, you have to wait a mere few seconds for it to fill again. It's not quite as bad as it sounds, generally it fills fast, especially if you are lagging or if you are a mage and waiting for recast timers!I do like the solo play or small-man parties! Pick up a levequest, team up with a friend or two and off you go! Levequests aren't really too confusing. When you pick them off from the starter city NPC, it tells you the location to start the levequest. For beginners, it's the first Camp outside town. So, off you trot to Camp Bent Branch or wherever you started, get close to the big shiny crystal, open your laggy menu to interact with it and select to start a leve quest! Once you start it, the mini map will have arrows to show you the direction of your prey! If you're still not sure where to go, open your big map and it circles the area (great! so simple)! In the top left of the screen it tells you what mobs to kill and how many remain. A lot of people complain that there is a limit to how many levequests you can do in 36 hours, it is only a limit to how many you can start, not participate in. This is to encourage people to be social, make friends and team up! SE seems to think people will be lonely if they don't have several links-hells and make parties. My only main gripe with this game, that for me personally is enough to walk away from it, is the UI (user interface and menus). I can't forgive SE for this, I can not fathom how they have not improved this more since Alpha. The UI is very chunky, mundane and slow! To get to whatever you wanted to access seems to take several more screens and clicks than it should. Anyone who has played Final Fantasy XI, I'm sure they are aware of this. Also, I hate the chat box, I know several people who complain about this. The chat box will close and erase anything you were typing every time the game tries to load something. For example, you click to view someone's bazaar and try to reply to a friend, it will close the chat box several times while it takes forever to load the bazaar.I haven't really touched the crafting jobs too much to comment one those, except to say to craft or harvest there is a mini game involved, which can take up time if you wanted to do it quickly.Well, that's it for now, I hope this has helped a little bit. This review is all an opinion, this game has a lot of potential, but they really need to buff out the kinks and add more content. I'll say this to any FFXI players, think how much they have added to FFXI in the recent years, every game needs time to grow.

.. is the general reaction being hurled about the internet concerning this game. Well, that, or, 'It's a Square-Enix product, so it sucks'. Although the reviews here have mostly been surprisingly balanced. The thing to keep in mind when coming to this game, is yes, it is indeed different, and not without the issues typically plague any new MMORPG in the first month or three of its launch. However, the developers are continuing to put a great deal of effort into remedying these problems as they come up, and while the inhabitants of the internet may be having a love/hate relationship with Final Fantasy XIV, the community in-game has so far proven generally friendly and upbeat. If you think you might enjoy an MMORPG with a truly beautiful world,a nice story flowing around your character, comprehensive character customisation, flexible in-game systems, a new take on basically everything that most MMORPG developers have been bandwaggoning after games such as World of Warcraft these past few years, and an avoidance of 'Anthropomorphic Exclamation Marks' instead of characters that are usually so typical of online games, then Final Fantasy XIV is very much a game to check out.As for the contents of the collector's box? Well, I like them. The map's fairly nice quality, and the cloth form makes it much less vulnerable to damage than paper. The tumbler is quite high quality, and the DVD-inset interesting. The Security Key's utility is obvious. my only complaint with the items, in fact, is the quality of the paper inside the journal makes me a little reticent to write anything inside - though the journal itself is good quality. All I can say in the end, is this is a unique game I'm having great fun with at present, and would recommend to anyone who thinks of their in-game avatar as a 'character', rather than a 'toon'. .. Or indeed anyone in the other camp, too, quite frankly, though the former probably have a much higher chance of enjoying Final Fantasy XIV, I suppose. The unsure might want to wait a month or three, which is the amount of time it usually takes for new MMO's to find their feet, deal with the worst of their start-up issues, and start getting wiffs of new content around the corner.[Review written by user's 23 year-old son, who, while a veteran player of MMORPG's, really hasn't written a lot of reviews in his time. So apologies for a clumsy posting]

Hopefully my review might help ppl who are stuck on the game. You can do 8 Regional quests a day and 8 local quests per day. The local quests are crafting quests and you can repeat ones you have already done or choose different ones to make a total of 8. Regional quests cannot be repeated (as far as I know) but you can exchange up to a total of 4 of your regional quests for 1 new one. You may then accept more up to a total of 8.You are practically forced to level up various crafting classes whether you want to or not, as you get a lot of experience thus leveling up you physical rank. It is easier to craft something and gain 1600 odd experience than kill a mob and get around 160 experience. So even if you intended to level up a conjurer or something you will end up leveling everything. After a while the crafting really drags out and can become quite boring. If you are successful in your crafting quest you will be given a recipe for something. This is given in the chat log which is easily missed. There is no way of seeing which recipes you know - you have to write them down when you get them or search various internet sites for them. Some recipes require certain skills, such as a Hempen Hat made by a weaver requires the Hatting skill. Unfortunately this is learned by leather workers from the leather workers guild (as far as I know at this moment), and can only be bought with guild marks - which I have no idea how to get! So it's very confusing.Square Enix have prevented power leveling by making sure you work for your ranks. The only way you will gain class rank experience is by using your class - as in actually participating in the fight. So you can't have an easy ride and hope others can get the xp for you. Also, once you have been a class for a certain amount of hours in the week, your xp will be nerfed, so you will gain much less and it's wiser to change class - a way a preventing people from racing ahead, and Square Enix makes more money as it takes you so long to get anywhere. As far as I can tell, Square Enix wanted to do something different instead of copying WoW. It has wonderful graphics (will look better on the PS3 if you have an older PC), but there is no tutorial and you can feel very lost.

First of all do not expect this to be like Final Fantasy XI, Wow or another other MMORPG, if you do, you will not like the game. When the game first came out, there were some problems to say the least, but there have vastly improved on this. And for those that stuck it out have so far gotten 90 days free game play out of it.The game, graphically is beautiful and the surround sound is fantastic. At the moment there only seems to be the Main Story, Guildleaves, crafting. levelling up and a few quest + Notras monsters. But having said that, this is a new game, it will get vastly better over time and more contents will be added as people get father into the game. This game was designed around casual players and for those that are heavy players. There will notice the fatigue system, that reduces exp over time, this is good as it keeps everyone balanced and from levelling up too fast.Plus there is nothing to stop you from leaving up another class, learning new abilities which then can be used to support your main class when the fatigue system reset once a week.So don't go dissing this game, give it a good long try and don't try to compere it to other games, treat it as a new way of playing and you will come to enjoy this.

So many reviews have slated FFXIV for this, that and the other. I have played it since beta and I can safely say it's been one of the smoothest launches I've known.People need to stop comparing it to WoW, or even to it's predecessor FFXI and just look at it as a game: It is a good game, and that's all there is to it.The battle system, whilst in need of tweaking, is solid and will make for fun, tactical gameplay. The crafting system is more in depth and interlinked than many, and I personally have been enjoying it a lot.The whole idea of the armoury system is great, the ability to change jobs on the fly is a boon, and makes for interesting gameplay.Basically,I agree with people that it feels they could have delayed the launch to perfect the game, but without the launch, they wouldn't have gotten the huge amount of feedback they needed to tweak it into a 5 star MMO. In time, this game will blossom into the excellent game that FFXI became, and more, owing to a more robust and fuller feeling experience on the whole.

Graphically it's faultless although the system requirements are quite high. The user input from keyboard and mouse can be a bit sluggish with a slight feel of delay. I've heard from many users that using a gamepad like the xbox360 controller work well, I cannot comment as I don't use mine. The pace of the game is a bit slow at the moment but I would say it's mostly because everyone is at the same level hunting in the same areas. The guildleves system is a little confusing and it can be a bit of a drag waiting 36 hours to trade in and pick up new guildleves, I'd imagine this was designed to stop people playing constantly and to deter gillfarmers. The mini-games associated with the crafting/gathering classes are enjoyable and add an extra dimension,it's certainly more fun then just clicking a few items and away you go.I think the game has great potential and would urge any MMO fans who want a game that isn't WoW to grab a copy!Oh and the onionhelm looks stupid but boy does it save a lot of time if you die!

I purchased this game from amazon on the super saver delivery was due to arrive the friday but arrived the thursday was very impressed with the delivery speed and the packaging. The game is a work in progress it holds alot of promise and is undergoing major planned changes and additions through player feedback. If your not a patient person i would avoid this game for another 3 months but if you want to see the changes happening around you i would say purchase this product now. Also the map and tumbler are fantastic =)

1.10.2010

This item took a little while longer to arrive than I would like. The install took ages and the setup on the site is way to complicated. All so they can charge you per character you want to have made. However the items with the box set are great. The FMVs including your character are brilliant and the new interface compared to FF11 is a vast improvement.Al in all a great game so far.

18.11.2010

The game is a good game..still incomplete maybe but the updates will fix what isnt in the game yet..a good fun game at the beginning but it's being expanded..if you're not looking for a game too easy and can deal with some bug you will have fun with it ;)

This image is for the Original version which was not that great. Then got closed down, rebuilt and re-launched as A Realm Reborn. This is brilliant and I've had some great times within this game.Any MMO fan would love this one
