I wondered why some guide rails I'd seen had a gouge in the aluminium edge supporting the anti splinter guard, and then I saw a video of a saw being plunged into a worktop to cut out a hob rectangle... and it kicked back.Festool recommend that all plunge cuts made with their track saws should ALWAYS be made with the back of the saw docked into a limit stop. This prevents the saw from jumping the track on those very rare occasions where the blade might catch in the workpiece as it plunges, and though it is very very rare and more likely to occur if the saw is plunged over a counter edge than if the cut is wholly in a piece of even thickness, it can happen. It happened to me when I tried to start a cut where there wasn't quite room to take a run-up at at it with the full thickness of the blade already plunged before it contacted the work edge. As the cut was shallow and the stock and rail firmly secured, I was sure it would be fine. The saw kicked as the teeth contacted the wood edge, and though it was only a millimetre and the saw stayed on the rail, I suddenly understood exactly how this could go wrong - and I understood why guide rails get damaged by kitchen fitters...Strangely, Festool no longer supply a stop with the ts55 though one comes as standard kit with the bigger ts75. I understand that USA customers have one included with the basic kit for both saws, though. So I had to buy one separately.Actually, I bought two as this enables the beginning and end of a cut to be made really accurately and, of course, safely and I find this a great help with making jigs. Thanks to all at Toolsave for their patience with my tedious questions.

My Festool plunge saw kit came with one of these, designed to sit at the back and lock the saw down onto the track when plunging, to avoid kick back. If you get a second one you can use it as a stop at the front end of the cut when plunging in and out within a longer board. There are registration marks on the saw's casing to line up to where you want the plunge cut to start and stop. Works perfectly. Well, it would, it's Festool. And it's expensive, well it would be, it's Festool.Five stars for functionality and build quality, marked down to four for price.

If you want accuracy & a well thought out tool all round then don't entertain the competition & buy a festool. Not the cheapest but by far the best. When used correctly & with all necessary attachments it is a dream. If you are a 'near enough' guy you probably shouldn't bother but if you take pride in your work & strive for precision at all times it's well worth the investment.

This is a must have item if you gonna do lots of plunge cuts on your track saw. It relieves the risk for kickbacks. I’ve actually bought 2 , I use one for kickbacks stop and one in front to stop the saw to the desire cut stop for repetitive plunge saw cuts.

does the job as intended, also can be used as a stop / limiter for router if used on the guide rails
