The first thing I would say about this shredder is that it is unlikely to fall over unless you give it a jolly good kick! For the size of this shredder, the weight is definitely very deceptive! However, I can't say that the heaviness is a bad thing because I prefer not to have shredded paper falling out all over the floor. It is also pretty well designed as it is essentially a rectangular box and so will fit in pretty much any space (it's either well designed and so they came up with a box, or no thought went into the design at all and so they came up with a box; you can take your pick). There is also a clear plastic window on the front with the idea being that you can tell when the shredder bucket is full.Unfortunately, they have used grey plastic and so you can't really see the paper level unless you get up close and personal with the shredder. The actual shredder is a little more noisy than I would like, however as it is only designed for occasional usage, this shouldn't be a big problem. In a larger office however, I'd want something that was much quieter. The paper cut size is reasonably small, however, on all the shredders I've had from Fellowes, the paper cut all seems to have been the same size. It is not what I would call high security, however probably sufficient for the average home user. Enough to prevent a fraudster from easily stealing your identity, I would have thought! In addition, I would point out that unlike some shredders, the manual states that this shredder is not capable of shredding CDs/DVDs or paper clips. However, the warning logos on the shredder also appear to indicate that it is also not suitable for shredding hair, ties and small children, so if you have any of these, make sure you don't shred them, otherwise the mechanism could be damaged.

My previous shredder was a cheap one from a high street store. It did the job, but the motor burnt out after just over a year. This Fellows M-7C shredder certainly looks and feels more robust, with the shredder head unit being surprisingly heavy. I guess that bodes well for long service, but only time will tell. The bin unit stands just over 1ft tall, with the nice touch of a transparent window so you can see when it's filling up. Sit the head unit on top of the bin, plug in, and you're ready to shred. Controls are limited to a single slider switch for on/off and reverse, but that is all you need.So I dropped the first sheet into the slot and .... nothing happened.I soon realised you need to push the paper a bit further into the slot before the blades grip it and shred automatically. That is probably my only criticism - would have liked a slightly more sensitive "grab" function when you introduce a sheet into the slot. No big deal though. When shredding starts, those sheets are slurped through pretty quickly. It is, perhaps, a little noisier in operation than you'd expect, with the motor running on for a few seconds after the paper has run through. The circular blades certainly look like they mean business and can cope with the recommended maximum of 6 sheets at a time (although it does run noticeably more slowly and sounds like it's labouring a bit when shredding 6). Paper is shredded into pieces approximately 1.5" x 1/8" (4cm x 4mm), which makes it definitely more secure when shredding sensitive documents than my previous shredder.Overall, whilst it's hard to get excited about a shredder, this is a nice, efficient unit that looks quite classy.

I've had a high street brand shredder for some years now. It's still working but it is temperamental and gets the vapours when I give it too much to do - or if it gets sight of a staple or an old credit card. And it only cuts in one direction. I wanted something with more muscle - and one which cuts up my private info into much smaller pieces. This Fellowes M-7C is the business. It does everything I ask of it - including cutting through staples and plastic cards like a hot knife through butter. My one grizzle is that the trigger point to get it firing up is deep into the feeding slot. I think most of them are like this but it is a bit of a nuisance if you are shredding small stuff like business cards.Oh - and there is one more thing - the paper catcher is more or less the same size as for most other shredders. If you have a lot to do, it is a pain having to keep on stopping to empty it - and, unlike my old one, you can't adjust the handle on the side to enable you to perch it over a bin. That was disappointing. But, saying that, it is a very good shredder and I am very pleased with it. Recommended.

Home shredders are always a compromise on cost, size and sturdiness. This one is on the expensive side, is very sturdy but is a little small for my needs.By sturdy I mean it won't bat an eyelid if you run it hard, and put plastic, staples etc. through it. Too often shredders can't cope with anything other than a few sheets of paper at a time. You are paying quite a bit for this - so it may not be a suitable purchase for everyone - but for me it works well. However, I have found that the bin underneath the shredder fills very quickly. As I say, this is a sensible compromise - otherwise the shredder would just be too big - but bear this in mind if you plan on using the unit heavily.I guess its best suited to someone who needs to shred a variety of things on occasion, but isn't going to be shredding large quantities daily. And for someone like this it does the job very well.

We already have one shredder in the household and needed a second in my home office to save me running back and forth. Hence our M-7c gets a very light, but daily workload. I've only had it a few weeks, but I have to say that I am pleased with it. It's less noisy than our other one, and it does everything that I need it to: mainly, it conforms to the cross-cut security requirements and seems reliable.I generally shred single sheets or a few 2's and 3's, but just for the hell of it I tried it on its claimed max of 7 sheets and it did shred them without fuss. However, the tone of the motor did drop considerably, so I wouldn't inflict that on it again. The viewing window into the catch-box is useful. As I don't shred a big volume it's often a long while between emptying and I have a tendency to forget to take the other one's lid off to check.

This shredder is suitable for home use if you indend to use it for one-off sheets now and again. If like me you tend to let it pile up a bit, this is a frustrating shredder. It gets hot and stops until it's cool after about ten to fifteen single sheets.Ignore the several minutes of shredding time it claimsIt will shred up to four or five sheets at once but it clearly struggles and slows with each additional sheet. I've taken to doing just one at once (for ten sheets) then leaving it for fifteen minutes before doing another batch. The actual shredding is ok. There's not too many unshredded and cross cut bits that get through. There is a handful of single uncut singles strands though.

Sturdy shredder, ideal for home or small office use to destroy personal or sensitive documents - the shred size isn't as small as some more expensive shredders buy in my view is fine for domestic use. The paper basket is a pretty standard size and tends to fill up quite quickly but the motor unit is much heavier than our previous shredder, partly down to the cross-cut mechanism but also a sign of higher quality (it was about twice the price too). I would have liked to be able to sit the shredder element on top of a waste bin when shredding large amounts of paper but this isn't possible. Aside from that, it does the job I bought it for.

I've owned a couple of shredders at home over the years but they've all been less than satisfactory. Even when new, they rarely shred as many sheets as the manufacturer claims, and over time they get feebler and feebler and then give up the ghost completely. This is the first Fellowes that I've owned, and it's worth the money. Well built, copes with the workload, and looks like it will last for ever. I can recommend this without reservation. For next time: what would make it perfect would be a light inside which comes on when it's shredding, so you can see exactly how full the waste bin is. What about it Mr.Fellowes?

26.9.2013

It's very tall and narrow compared to my other shredder and thus quite top heavy, so when it's empty it's a little bit wobbly. It is either on, off or in reverse for if you get paper stuck. It is a lot fast than my other shredder and wizzed through half my pile of paper in record time... but it doesn't do a good job of compressing the paper as it goes, so I had to empty it a lot more frequently. Half way through my pile it over heater, so I had to walk away for half hour and come back to my shredding. I'd say this shredder is ideal if you shred little and often, not like me in bulk.

I bought this to replace a 6 year old shredder that was loud and took longer than necessary to shred a batch of receipts. While this is heavier than I would like (I keep my shredder under my desk and take it out when I shred things), it shreds paper pretty quickly into short and small strips, and it's much quieter than my old shredder which had a loud screechy sound. Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase.I gave four stars only because it's a bit heavier than I would like.

But I didn't notice it was full and the shreddings started wrapping round the rollers and got jammed in the casing. I had to us a thin screwdriver to free the paper. There is a window in the collecting bin but we have the shredder under a light so you can't see in the window clearly. It would be handy if the shredder had an LED illuminating the bin contents.

Great product works as intended and doesn't heat up very quickly. This is my 2nd shredder and this definitely outperforms my previous one, feels sturdy and has some good weight to it so it doesn't feel like it will break so easily. The only problem you will have is emptying the shredder bin more often, because it works seamlessly well, without any jams.

14.4.2016

After spending ages researching different shredders that suited our needs I'm glad that I purchased this one. This shredder is used on a daily basis and has jammed only once which was fairly simple to remove it is quite bulky if u only have limited space but its Perfect for my husbands home office would definitely recommend.

This shredder is fab! Easy to set up safe to have in a family home. You can gauge how full it is at a glance and shred paper and card of all sizes, several sheets at a time. You can also shred credit cards too so using scissors to cut them up is now a thing of the past!

I used it four times and it runs in reverse OK but does not work normally. My previous Fellows shredder worked fine for about five years.UPDATE : After going through several options with the folk at Amazon support I have managed to get it working again - Thanks Guys
