This new gel collection from Essie has very quickly become the only type of nail polish that I want to use.I was reluctant to try these at first because I have noticed that a lot of brands have started to release so-called gel formulas that are said to last and look like gel. After having tried these with little success I was sceptical of all budget alternatives to gel. However, upon first use of one of these polishes, I quickly realised that these are not the same as other brands who claim that their formula is like gel.Like the original Essie nail polishes, which are my favourite over other brands like OPI,these polishes have a lovely wide brush which makes it easy to cover your whole nail in one sweep. After having put on one coat of the polish I could tell that it was much thicker than normal nail polishes and I hardly needed a second coat. Adding an additional layer merely added more shine and made it look ever more like gel on my nails. After the polish dried down it looked thick and glossy, just like a gel. I have to say I was very impressed because I've never had such results from painting my nails at home. The colour lasted on my nails for around a week without chipping, which I was extremely happy with because I normally can't even last a day. I eventually ended up removing it, not bcause I needed to, but because I just wanted a change of colour.I am so impressed with these polishes that I ended up getting several colours and find that I am only reaching for them when I want a manicure. I know I can rely on them for long lasting results that look great. The colour selection is extremely wide and has way more choice than any other gel alternative that I've come across. I've managed to find similar colours to all of the usual Essie formula colours that I wear, plus a few new favourites. The price is astounding for the quality of the product and you are also getting a really nice bottle which looks unique and pretty. The one criticism I have of this polish is that it takes a little longer to dry than the regular Essie formulation, but I suspect that this is down to the thicker consistency and it is worth the extra wait.I have been using these without the gel top coat because I feel impressed with the results that I am getting without it. I can only imagine that this would increase shine even more and may possibly help with the longer drying time.Overall, I highly recommend these to anyone who is tired of painting their nails every few days and is looking to spend their money on something that works and will make them fall head over heels for a new range of colours

Make The Cut is a light grey, with a pearlescent finish. A perfect all-rounder; suits all ages, all skintones, all occasions, all seasons.Rock The Runway is a scarlet cream; red polish has been loved ever since Nefertiti and Cleopatra wore them to indicate power and their social hierarchy placing, and this hue is a wonderful shade for any skintone, any time of the yearSignature Smile is a bubblegum shade of pink, with a cream finish. Fabulous for this time of year; the white undertone makes the shade pop against skin, for an instant tanning effect. A lovely shade, but admittedly not unique.Sit Me In The Front Row is a suits-everyone raspberry shade, with a cream finish. Again; very pretty and extremely wearable, but not in the slightest bit original.Stitch By Stitch is a light pink cream, with a not-too-cool but not-too-warm neutral base. The regular Essie line has around a dozen similar shades on offer, so I don't know why they had to make another one._Now for the good part; whilst Essie tends to go for 'safe' shades and finishes for their polishes, the actual product formulation for their Gelcouture range is superb; you're getting the non-streaky, high-shine, plump look of a gel polish, without the need to buy the pricey heaters that you need to use to cure a gel polish. Then there's also no need to worry about the tricky removal and damage to nails that a real gel polish causes.I'm very tough on my hands and nails, so I find that their Gel effect polishes don't wear much better than their regular polishes do on me [one to two days more - nothing close to twelve days], but the formula is so smooth and non-staining, there is less mess & streakiness, and the paddle brush is excellent for my nail shape - I definitely prefer their Gel Effect polishes over their regular line.If you are not bothered about extending the wear of the polish for as long as possible, then you can use any topcoat over this line of polishes, rather than buy the topcoat that goes with it.

Not for personal use but passed to a female within the family for the purpose of testing.Essie, as a brand, is not one known from prior use as are several nails only brands and others offering this type of product. The range of colours currently offered is quite extensive and includes several 'nudes' plus the expected pinks, brighter reds and some darker colours, for the most part fairly traditional and unremarkable and lacking the 'poppier' colours and glitters that some may include."essie Gel Couture Nail Polish, 40 Fairy Tailor 13.5 ml" is a subtle beige-nude and may appear as a natural nail colour for some of its users. The user had ceased using bright nail colours some years ago and now prefers the softer and paler shades. The bottle is slightly larger than is standard (most appear to contain around 10ml) and moderately priced for that larger quantity. The polish appears to be of a fairly standard formulation without offering claims of something extra by way of moisturising or repair capabilities, nail strengthening etc.The polish does not dry to a high gloss finish, perhaps soft gloss may be a better description, but that may be intentional in order to preserve its appearance as 'natural'; other colours in the range may offer a high gloss but no others were tested. It could augment a collection that may include other brands, favourite colours or effect finishes that are not currently within the range for those occasions when they may be best left unused. Those often prohibited from wearing nail polishes at work, e.g. nurses and other medical staff, may be able to use this with impunity. The manufacturers claim it to be a couture product - possibly as H.M. The Queen favours one of its colours - the unusually decorative bottle certainly gives that impression and its contents may be, but it will be a very economical addition to a collection.

I like Essie polishes, they are generally two coat wonders and the brush in this edition is fantastic, almost twisty but flat meaning it just slides on in an almost perfect one coat and the formulation makes it fully opaque in two. This polish is part of the gel system which extends wear to a week or so but can be worn without the sunlight curing top coat and lasts 2-3 days on average without chipping near the edges.Take me to thread is part of the couture collection based around neutrals with fashion designer themed names. It is a gorgeous mushroom-mauve which sounds awful but is really pretty - a sort of deep greige with a purple-bruisey tone to it.It's been commented on as such a pretty and sophisticated colour by several people even though it is very unassuming and doesn't scream HELLO world I've got nail varnish on!To me this is the perfect neutral as it isn't the 'nude' cream/pink/peach that never quite looks right, it's got colour but is quiet and understated blending into different settings as 'dressed' but not distracting.I can't attest to the two step system as we were only provided with colour not top coat but overall I'm pleased with the colour and formulation enough to invest further, and of course you could top with a different brands gel curing coat but I can't recommend to the results as they only state brand matching.Overall I would definitely buy this (may stockpile a few as its a limited edition collection) as its such a perfectly pretty neutral and a sophisticated tone that could work in many settings both casual, formal and professional.

We had two polishes from this range for review, so we`ve combined both for the purposes of this assessment; the products were Essie 140 ‘couture curator’ and Essie 410 ‘hang up the heels’.My tester says “I was instantly attracted to these eye catching nail polishes by their attractive and quirky bottles. The bottle is distinctively twisted which not only draws attention but also fits ergonomically well between the fingers. So far so good. - Funky colours labelled by number and fancy names which give no clue to their colour.Who could know that 'couture curator' was a baby pinkish colour? - Well, who cares for its title if you can hold it in your hand and see for yourself what colour it is?The problem however comes with the darker polishes. ‘Take Hang up the heels’ for example - you could be forgiven for thinking it might be a deep dark green or blue. In fact I was rather hoping it was, but disappointingly it turned out to be black. The polishes themselves are comparable to your average high street polishes but I have to say they did take a while to dry. I found the 'couture curator' particularly tacky and didn’t stand up well to everyday wear and tear. The black polish for whatever reason seemed a bit tougher. In conclusion, funky polishes with immediate design appeal with quirky titles and stylish bottle. Product itself didn’t quite live up to first impressions due to its slow drying time and mixed durability depending on colour.”Overall a 3 ½ to 4 star rating.

I’ve had gel nail varnish put on at a salon so was excited to try this one at home and see how it compares. First impressions have been good, the colour is true to the picture online, it applied well and gave a slightly more sheer coverage which is fine for my short natural nails as it doesn’t draw too much attention to them but still gives them a nice look. I must admit I didn’t realise I’d need to buy the gel top coat to use this so I decided to give it a go on it’s own without using that to see how long it lasted on its own. On my nails without the required top coat you’re meant to apply it gave a very small little chip on the tip of one nail on the 1st full day, usually that would mean the rest of the varnish on that nail would be off within a few hours but it’s still lasted to day 3 so far without getting any bigger. I’ve also got a chip on the side of my thumb nail now so I think I’ll need to remove it soon. I now have both this gel nail varnish and the essie express one so I thought I’d put them to the test to compare which one worked better for me. I painted the essie express on my left hand and this essie gel one on my right hand. The essie express gave a more solid colour, doesn’t need a base or top coat and feels surprisingly a bit more gel like on my nail. That one hasn’t chipped at all, doesn’t require a base or top coat, covered better, is cheaper and has lasted longer so I’d recommend that one over this one personally.

After reading some other reviews of it taking ages to dry and not being durable, I tried this Gel Couture Nail Polish with half an expectation that it wouldn't set or last. It turned out I was wrong – I love it!I received colour 40 Fairy Tailor, a very light shell pink, as well as the Gel Top Coat to finish it off properly. I don't know whether the topcoat actually hardens the colour beneath or if it is a hard shell itself to stop wear and damage to the colour layers below but the Top Coat is essential to set and gloss the colour and make it durable. The bottle has an attractive twist and is easy to hold and handle and both the colour polish and top coat is a decent size of 13.5ml.The brush is one of those slightly flattened ones and fits the nail nicely on application. One coat gave a reasonable coverage (bear in mind that Fairy Tailor is a very pale varnish) and after a short time to allow for drying, I applied a second coat. Once dry, about fifteen minutes later, I applied the second-step topcoat which is clear and glossy looking like most other topcoats. The finished nails look beautifully thick, glassy and glossy, just like proper gel nails. I no longer use LED/UV soak off gel polishes as the removal is such a pain. This Essie Gel Couture polish is removable with normal nail varnish remover or pads. I am really pleased with this gel style polish and would certainly buy other colours in the range.

This product is 100% amazing, I can't see that I will ever need another brand of polish. I have bad, bad nails, they crack and chip and I can't get even gel polish to last a full week. Given the time to apply & remove gel polish, it just wasn't worth it for the length of time the polish would last so I would just struggle on with regular polish like CND Vinylux, Nails Inc Gel Effect and Rimmel Salon Pro. None of them really satisfactory - might get 2 days tops. I had kind of given up on ever having polish last on my nails like it does for a lot of people. This product is just beyond belief though. I use a base coat to even out my nails and apply 2 thick coats of Essie Gel Couture polish and one thin coat of the top coat.I like my polish to look thick, like gel polish, and this is the only non-cure polish I have used that allows me to do that and have a smooth, quick-drying and lasting finish. If I get chips or micro-cracks on day 4 or 5, I simply wash my nails very well and reapply one coat of colour and one coat of top coat over the existing polish and with this method I get 8 or 9 days of gorgeous nails without removing and starting again. As for 'model clicks', I never was a dark polish girl till I got this and now I don't feel right with anything else on. Its lucious and deep - warm but not too red/maroon, which I find can happen with a lot of oxblood polishes when applied.

This Essie Nail Polish Gel comes in a smart glass bottle which has an elegant, twisted shape. Apart from looking good, this very different twisted square section makes it easy to hold the bottle and much harder to drop it. I’ve had the standard round bottles slip through my fingers too many times and this shaped bottle doesn’t roll if you’re unfortunate enough to knock it over. The brush applicator is the usual size; it is supple enough to curve over my nail, full enough to hold a good amount of polish and firm enough to keep its shape in use.I applied the polish without using a base coat and I was very pleased at the controllable fluidity of the gel.It didn’t ooze down into the cuticle area but it spread very nicely over the nail plate. I found one coat is quite sufficient for a rich, deep colour and shine. The shade I have, Bubbles Only, is a sophisticated dark red. It’s not the fingers-dipped-in-blood red, it is elegant and looks surprisingly reserved. The polish cleans off very easily and leaves minimal stain. Of course used over a base coat I doubt there would be any staining at all. I can’t comment on the chip-resistance of this polish because my situation doesn’t permit me to wear strong colours on a daily basis. That said, I’m happy with every aspect of this super nail polish. It feels like party time.

Normally, when there is a two-part item on Amazon Vine, you will tend to get offered both parts. For example a stapler and some staples, or a razor handle with razors. In this case I have not been sent the top coat, so cannot fully review this system and let you know how long this polish lasts. So I will just review it as a stand alone polish. The bottle is twisted, which is decorative but also makes the bottle surprisingly easy to hold, and the stem of the brush is twisted too. The brush is a good shape to load on the right amount of polish and give even, smooth coverage in one stroke. I applied two coats of Stitch By Stitch, a germolene-pink polish, and it's nicely opaque and shiny. After one day it is slightly dented where I may have knocked my nails, but not chipped at the edges. I suspect it will last about as long as any other polish. I don't know whether I will invest in the top coat to try the whole system out.Edit: I have now also tried Signature Smile, and I like it a lot more. It is a much brighter, summery-sherbety pink, almost neon. It's a lot more liquid than Stitch By Stitch for some reason, so it was easy to flood the nails if too much was loaded on the brush. I found it a bit messy, but will be more careful next time I apply. I have added a picture of how it looks on.

This nail polish system with the colour and the top coat is fantastic!I am a nail polish addict and have tried everything. I can't wear gel as it just peels off and I have tried loads of different brands and loads of different professionals. Also regular polish just chips the same or next day, therefore, I am always looking for a longer lasting manicure. In order to achieve this I have tried all the gel hybrid polishes such as Sally Hansen Miracle Gel, OPI Infinite Shine, CND Vinylux and Orly Epix. These systems are much better than regular polish and some are better than others; however, the best by far is Essie Gel Couture. It does stay on the nails for ages, at least a week and for me that is amazing. It also stays beautifully shiny for the duration. The colours are absolutely gorgeous: baby pinks, nudes, deep reds, bright blues and pastels. Sometimes with the lighter colours you need three coats for full coverage. The top coat is amazing; it dries the polish very very quickly and leaves it with a very high shine. This really is the prettiest and longest lasting polish on the market and I know because I have tried them all. I love this so much I have subscribed to certain colours and they are delivered to me regularly.I am sure if you buy this you will not be disappointed.

It's a shame some of my fellow reviewers have had difficulty with this - for me, it's a lovely polish. Yes, it's quite runny which is deceptive, I think, as it coats very evenly and doesn't go gloopy, nor does the runniness affect the drying time, which is quick. Yes, it's best used with the top coat, which is sold separately and once applied, I found it lasted without a single chip for at least three days, which is pretty good going for non-gel polish and about average for many brands. Jewels not tools, as they say - if you constantly use your nails to pry open lids, do the gardening or clean the shower, sooner rather than later, any normal polish is going to come off.I just keep random pairs of Asda's equivalent of marigolds all over the place, it's a second to bung them on then your nails are properly protected.I got the VIPlease colour, which is a deep magenta, and I think the best thing about this polish is the shine. Long after others go dull, my nails are as shiny as when I have proper gel ones done. For a tenner, this is fairly pricey polish so I knocked off a star for that, but it is good, it comes in a lovely shaped bottle, so easy to hold - I recommend it. But you do have to buy the top coat....

I fully acknowledge that I am miss picky when it comes to my nails. I love a gel ombré but I am increasingly worried about the chemicals in the stuff that is used in nail bars. I then started to do gel nail polish myself at home but found it a complete flaff. I have tried gelish, opi and shellac all with ok results but it’s the soaking off that I found a nightmare and it just doesn’t look as good as going to a nail bar. In desperation I bought this color and the Essie gel couture top coat. I can honestly say that I am in love...this stuff is amazing. I do general nail prep then apply two coats of color, it dries really quick so by the time I have finished my second hand I can put the second coat on.I then use put in two top coats. After about 5 mins I run my hands under the cold tap for a minute, not sure why but it seems to help. The polish lasts 5 days on me before tip wear. It doesn’t chip which is a complete first for me. After 5 days I take it off and reapply. It does stain my nails but I’m not bothered about that at all. The colors in the range are great, I have tried a number of the pink/red colors and love them all. Buy this it will change your manicure forever!!!

Honest review here guys. I bought this because of the 1000 + 4.4 star ratings. I have waited to review this after trying this shade of essie "fairy tailor" Colour goes on great. If you want a natural look apply one coat. I ended up needing to buy barry m clear base coat which made the first coat of the essie dry quicker and look more like a shellac. I then applied a 2nd coat of this colour to get a more opaque look. You gotta let this dry for aaaages, at least 30 minuted otherwise, you guessed it, smudge smudge smuuudge! Then I applied the essie clear topcoat. I think thw top coat just gives a finished shellac look and yes takes ages to dry. I wish I bought a nail hardening top coat from a different bramd instead!!!Wasted my money with that thing. Anyhow this lasts for only 2-3 days and that's with me only showering and wearing gloves to do the miniscule amount of washing up each day since I own a dishwasher. Overall I haven't found essie to be worth the money AT ALL. I used rimmel brit manicure years ago and that lasted ages. The moral of the story is to save your money and buy a cheaper well known brand. Barry M has never let me down nor rimmel/maybelline.

Review written by my wife:It is a bit difficult to fully review this nail polish as I was only sent the polish to review, not the top coat. The twisted bottle has a nice look and feel and the brush feels good quality. The polish was easy to apply and glides on. I used two coats of “70 – Take Me To Thread” and it gave a good solid colour, very similar to the picture. It isn’t a shade I’d normally go for, but I quite liked it as it looked professional; suitable for the office. I wouldn’t say it lasted any longer than my usual colour, but as I wasn’t sent the top coat it is difficult to judge. I got one small chip after twenty-four hours and then had the colour on for about three days.I should mention though, I was running around after the kids those days and doing some heavy clearing out ready for redecorating – so all in all that’s probably not too bad given my hands probably had a bit of a battering! I’ve given this four stars as although without the top coat it lasts the same amount of time as a regular nail varnish, the sleek design and easy application make it stand out compared to other polishes I’ve used.
