Edit 16/04/16:- I just wanted to update this review to confirm how long the nail gel has lasted for me before chipping and of the 3 times I have applied it now it tends to last me 7 days before chipping. This obviously isn't near the advertised 14 days but is still a massive improvement on normal nail varnish for me and works out a lot cheaper than gel nails at the salon if you normally would do this. I actually like the polish so much now that I have also purchased the Punk Rock colour (gorgeous petrol bluey grey type colour and I'll add photos in the next week or so of this colour too) in addition to the Bare Hug colour that I purchased to go along with the top coat that I received from the Vine programme.I intend on purchasing more of the colours from the range in the future too.It may be worth pointing out that as I have two little ones with one child still in nappies that I spend a lot of time washing my hands, with them submerged in water and that my nails also take a lot of battering from spending a fair amount of time on the computer for work and some at home and so I haven't been easy on this gel polish over the last few weeks but it still unbelievably lasts at least 7 days (once lasted 8) before chipping. Very impressed and I've got my eye on the Venus, Grape Sorbet and Seduce colours next.Original Review:- Firstly just to advise that I was offered the top coat by itself from the Vine programme without a base colour and so I therefore purchased the colour Bare Hug myself from Amazon in order to be able to properly test the top coat. I felt it was only fair to properly test the top coat alongside a colour as it was my own fault that I didn't read all of the description etc at the time of ordering and so I didn't realise until the top coat arrived that it was actually part of a two step process with both a colour and the top coat being needed to test properly. The colour Bare Hug is a really nice neutral beige/grey which looks gorgeous on and really suits either a daytime look or in my case an office look for while at work. What I will say is that the polish itself is quite thick and so you do really need to apply this well onto each nail within the first few strokes to prevent it feeling gloopy which is fine for me as I tend to have to paint my nails in a hurry when I actually get time to with having two little ones. The bottle advises to apply two coats and I did need to apply both coats to get the desired colour and to not be able to see any of my nail beneath. The one negative and the reason I have deducted a star from my marking so far is that the coats take ages to dry inbetween each other and when I realised this, I didn't apply the second coat until after my children had gone to bed and I could be sure I wouldn't have to use my hands before my nails were dry.The second stage is to apply the top coat which is clear and smells very strongly and so again a warning to those with little ones to maybe do this when they are not in the room or ideally won't be for some time as the smell is quite strong. The applicator brush for this is strangely two brushes together but this does help apply it quite easily. One other thing again is that I realised only a thinnish coat is actually needed on top of the colour. Finally again this coat seemed to take ages to dry and so I would suggest only doing your nails with this two step process when you have plenty of time to do so and don't need to use your hands for a while. My nail polish still felt tacky when touching two nails together over 30minutes after each coat even though the nail itself felt dry to a gentle touch. The finishing result does actually resemble gel nails I think but obviously you need the patience inbetween each coat allowing it to dry. I love the Bare Hug colour and so this is definitely a polish I will wear again in the future but maybe won't be one I'd be able to do regularly due to the long drying time needed between coats. I am going to update my review to confirm how long it lasts before chipping but so far so good and I like the colour but the application is very time consuming compared to normal UV gel.

I bought this polish after paying £28 for the pleasure of a very poor gel nail job. I have this polish in Urban Affair (dark nude) New Romantic (baby pink) and a fuschia colour I can’t remember the shade name. All 3 shades are stunning. I was dubious about the lasting power of this polish, standard polish lasts me 2 days max before it’s chipped and flaked to shreds. I applied a combination of the nude and baby pink at first. It dries quickly and spreads smoothly. I put on 2 coats of Urban Affair and 3 for New Romantic as it is so pale, followed by the top coat (yes it makes a huge difference it’s just like normal polish without it). The nude shade had a slight barely noticeable chip on one finger after 5 days. The rest remained perfect until I used polish to remove it. The pale pink colour started to crack after 3 days and flaked after 5 days a couple of nails the colour peeled off completely. So for some reason the nude had better staying power than the pale pink. I removed it after 6 days as I wanted to try the other pink shade. Acetone free nail polish remover wouldn’t budge it so I had to use some with acetone in that worked with some rubbing which should give you a sense of how well on it was. The darker pink shade applied just as easily as the other 2 and dried quickly. I’ve had it on for 3 days and it hasn’t chipped or cracked so far and people have been asking me where I got my nails done. It really does leave a professional gel finish. I think it is very costly to continue getting your nails professionally done all the time. These won’t last as long as UV gels or the 14 days advertised but they do look and last much longer than standard polish and much cheaper than the salon. Ignore the bad reviews give it a go.-if you apply the Top Coat too thickly or before the polish is totally dry it will take forever to dry. You have to apply thin layers and make sure it is totally dry before applying another one. It does make a difference.-The Top Coat does make them last longer without you just have a standard polish I tried it.-it won’t last as long as salon nails but they will look professional.-they won’t cause the damage to your nails salon gels will.-easier to remove than gels.I’m really happy with this polish as long as you apply it properly and don’t expect them to last the same as UV gels you won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to expand my collection with all the fab colours :). Very happy.

I received this item on 21st March 2016 when it was priced at £8.99 and my wife conducted the test. The colour she chose was Shade 23, Grape Sorbet, Pearl-Effect Pink + Gel Top Coat.First off, she was apprehensive about the colour when it was ordered, but when it arrived she found that it was an attractive pink colour and whilst it is somewhat softer than her traditional red colour, she found the colour attractive when applied. My wife is slightly older than the average and she tends not to protect her hands as much as many people would when undertaking routine jobs around the house or garden. Her nails can therefore become a little more damaged than what she would prefer. As we were departing on Easter holidays, it permitted the ideal opportunity for her to try this product. She reports that the 12ml bottle is sufficient for her needs and seems to match the size of competitors products which she routinely buys. She routinely applies two coats of traditional varnish and this product was similar in comparison; she tried a single coat, but felt that it did not provide sufficient "depth" to the cover, whilst two "thin" coats provided a far better result. Each coast dried in approximately 10 minutes and following the second coat she applied the topcoat and was pleased with the result. She showed the results to a friend's daughter who works in a salon and she felt that the quality and finish to the product was good for a home use. After a week on holiday without the need to "touch up" her nails we returned and my wife removed the cover very easily using impregnated nail varnish remover pads. The gel removed easily and completely with very little effort. Traditionally my wife has used Estee Lauder nail products and felt that whilst this item was not quite as good as those she routinely purchases, she was delighted (as am I) at the significantly lower cost for a comparable product. The one thing that she has done is to use one of the Estee Lauder applicators for stage 1 as she feels that the one supplied, whilst good, the Estee Lauder applicator she is familiar with the shape and "balance" and therefore prefers it.My wife has asked me to rate this item as 5 stars and she is delighted with it.

This "Rimmel Supergel Urban Romance Nail Polish, 12 ml, Shade 3" was passed to a family member for the purposes of testing and comment. This wouldn't normally be a preferred colour to wear alone, it was the only one offered, as it was initially thought too dark for her Mediterranean skin tone. Her nails are also quite soft due to long-term use of prescribed medication and preference is to use a nail strengthener and a colour. The polish dries to a high shine even on a single coat although a second application improves the finish by further reducing uneven underlying nail surfaces, gloss is marginally improved and it adds an extra depth to the final colour which is a deep purple. On-screen,it appeared brown-purple not unlike that of another brand, but it has no brown tones. Some may consider it a dark plum or 'wine' colour. It does not require a device to aid or fasten drying times and dries naturally within a minute or two in a moderately warm room, possibly more slowly at lower temperatures. It could make an excellent base for the later application of a sparkle coat or a tonally contrasting colour on a portion of the nail(s). It removes easily with normal removers, one of the 'insert finger and rotate' canned sponge type was used in this instance although the liquids would also suffice. It is a 'modern' colour and is said by Rimmel to tonally favour the younger wearer. That will be a matter for personal taste, fashion trends and other considerations including the possibility of it matching an outfit or part of one; similar plum and wine colours produced by various other nail brands have been seen demonstrated and worn by the mostly mature presenters on some TV sales channels. There is an extensive range of colours within the range should this not personally suit.

I’ve got a few of these super gels & find them very easy to use.The photo shows Soul Session when it’s applied, with the top coat also. Please excuse the state of my nails as I didn’t actually buff my nails ready. I literally took off the previous colour & then sat in the garden & applied this one, so the photo is taken in natural daylight. It looks like a very subtle nude colour. You could probably get away with this for the base colour of a french manicure, it’s so delicate.I have applied 3 coats of this colour to get a good coverage otherwise I think it looked a bit wishy-washy, but some of the darker ones I’ve just applied 2 coats & it’s looked fine.I’ve knocked a star off as I can only use this on my toes.If I put it on my fingers then it’s chipped within hours, however I tend to use my hands in some rough areas due to my job, so I can only use gel polish which needs a lamp to set, otherwise there’s literally no point as I’d be lucky to get hours out of it.On my toes however this polish lasts as long as a lamp gel polish. I’d had my previous Color (also Super Gel) on for about 5 weeks and it still looked good & hadn’t chipped. It can take ages to dry however, so best to apply this when you haven’t got to go anywhere for a bit. Today it’s taken me about half an hour to do 3 coats of colour & a top coat & it’s still tacky, so I’m going to either half to stay put or walk on my heels. Good job it’s sunny out here.Recommend this as a polish for toes and people who don’t need to stick their hands into machinery or do manual stuff for a living, otherwise it’s not very long lasting at all.

I tried with trepidation this Rimmel Gel Nail Polish after reading other reviews of it taking ages to dry and not being very forgiving if you have ridges in nails etc. - I'm not very patient and I have ridges on my nails. I really didn't think I would get on very well with this polish but it turned out I was wrong – I love it!I received colour 013 Bear Hug (popular mushroom/stone shade) and as it is a two-step nail polish, I purchased the Gel Topcoat to finish it off properly. I don't know whether the topcoat actually hardens the colour beneath or if it is a hard shell itself to stop wear and damage to the colour layers below. The bottle is a decent size of 12ml and the brush is one of those slightly flattened, shaped ones to give a good oval ended brush which fits the nail nicely. One coat gave good coverage but I could just see where the pink and white parts of my nails join. I waited about ten minutes before gently touching it with a fingertip and found that it was completely dry, so the second coat was applied fairly quickly afterwards. Once dry, about fifteen minutes later, I applied the second-step topcoat which is clear and glossy looking like most other topcoats. The finished nails look beautifully thick and glossy, just like proper gel nails. I no longer use LED/UV soak off gel polishes as the removal is such a pain. This Rimmel Gel polish is removable with normal nail varnish remover or pads. I am really pleased with this gel style polish and would certainly buy other colours in the range.

This product was ok but not comparable with a gel manicure, although obviously wear per wear it is obviously much cheaper too - with these bottles costing less than 1 manicure, and I would imagine you'd get at least 30 from them.I found it a bit frustrating as it did take a long time for the varnish and top coat to dry, which would be OK if it was a once a fortnight job, but by day 4 it was looking a little worn around my nail tips and by day 6 it definitely needed re-doing.Having said that, the brush was a lovely wide brush, which made application of the colour coat easy, although with this metallic shade I did have to have a few goes at some nails to avoid seeing the brush strokes. The colour is a little darker than appears online, so rather than a sweet girly pink, I thought it was more a heathery tone, which my mum loves but I'm not so keen on. As others have said the top coat has a bit of a thick gloopy texture so it's not that easy to apply neatly, especially to your writing hand, luckily it is clear so mistakes aren't too noticeable. The result was a high shine finish similar to gel.The varnish was easy to remove with normal nail varnish remover, maybe just needing an extra rub or two on each nail. I would be happy to use again as it lasted longer than regular nail varnish, but if you're after something comparable with a gel manicure, you'll be a bit dissapointed

I tend to spend a lot of money getting my nails done professionally to ensure they stay on for long, however after realising how much money I was spending every I decided to try and do it myself.I decided first to use a Rimmel gel nail varnish and once dried started using the Super Gel nail varnish top coat. I particularly liked how thick the brush was, meaning it glided over each nail evenly with one stroke. This top coat was fast drying which I loved and was surprised with as no UV lamp is required. This product is infused with natural light curing technology that lets daylight do the work. I did do the top coat twice just to ensure everything was all set.Once dried my nails had this incredible shine which made it seem as if they were done professionally. The glossy look really makes my nail stand out and I have had numerous compliments.I also tend to do a lot of washing and was pleasantly pleased that my nails were not chipping or breaking as I felt this was making my nails stronger.I found this lasted for 8 days at the most before a slight chip showed. I did also feel my nails were slightly stronger whereas normally on the sides they tend to chip. The one thing which really makes me love this product is show I no longer need to go to a salon to remove anything as a normal nail varnish remover works perfectly.

The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because in my experience, it didn't live up to the 14 day marketing tag, but lets start from the beginning. The colour is very cute. It looks more coral in the pic but is slightly pinker when on your nails. The brush is thick and makes it easy to give a thick, consistent coverage. Two coats is more than enough and followed by the suggested top coat, made my nails feel sturdy. Each layer dried relatively quickly, but I made the mistake of resting one hand under the leg of my jeans and the pattern came off on the varnish, even though it appeared dry - so make sure to leave it a good ten minutes or more between coats. My nails lasted a lot longer beforechipping with this varnish that with nail varnish I usually use (varying brands but mostly high street or opi), however it wasn't clos to the 14 days advertised. I think it was the third day the tips began to chip - it's usually day one or two! - and then it held off from getting worse for another couple of days. I'm now on day 10 and they look pretty worse for wear! I should caveat this though, with the fact that I type a lot for my job and I don't take care to mind my nails when washing up, cleaning, etc. I think if you were careful, this would last longer.

The idea behind this is that it is a 2 stage process, the nail varnish, and then a top coat.Firstly, a warning: you should apply an undercoat or base coat first. Using a strong colour on your nails without a base coat risks staining the nails themselves.I applied a base coat, then this. I don't have the stage 2 top coat, so went without one, rather than using one I already have. The nail varnish had strong colour in one coat, it didn't need a second application.Day 1 and 2 were absolutely perfect; I was walking round with great nails. Day 3 had some very minor chips, but you had to look to find them. Day 4 was only slightly more. It was Day 5 before I felt that if I was going out,I'd want to apply another coat to cover the chips. For a straight polish without needing to cure under a light, and without the recommended top coat, this was a great performance from a nail varnish. The colour I was trying was all but black; very dark, so it was clearer where any chips occurred - and those that did were tiny. Even today, on day 5, the chipping is far less than I usually see by day 3 (and I type as part of my day job).Highly recommended; I may even go and get some top coat. I was really impressed with this.

I never have bare nails and these seem to be a great alternative to gels. I have a gel lamp and many different gel shades but applying it and removing it is such a long process that I don’t always have the time or the inclination. These are a good alternative. These come in a wide variety of shades and are quick and simple to apply. No need for a base coat (although some of the darker shades do stain the nail a little). Just apply two or three coats allowing two minutes between applications and then a quick top coat and you’re done. They last well although I find after a week they can crack a little but I remove and reapply once a week anyway. A little tip.... use the top coat sparingly.Too thick and it will dry bubbly which is not a great look. To remove, simply use a cotton pad and standard nail varnish remover. Takes a little longer to remove than a standard varnish but nowhere near as long as removing gels. I wouldnt say they replace my actual gels but theyre great for everyday wear. I would definitely recommend and at the price I feel this product is excellent value for money.

I LOVE the idea of this, a gel polish that can be removed with ordinary nail polish remover, as I've had gel nails, but ended up peeling them off too many times and damaged the nails. Lately I also seem to have developed some kind of allergy to the gel as well so this product really appealed to me.In theory it's the best idea, in reality it is harder wearing than normal nail varnish but doesn't last anywhere near as long as Rimmel claim. The packaging states that the polish lasts up to 14 days, mine lasted 5 days before it needed to come off due to chips. In fairness, they were minor chips but they had developed over the fourth and fifth day.The gel top coat really does feel like a genuine gel nail with that lovely smooth feel, and looks good too. The longevity is far better than any other nail polish I've tried but just not as good as the manufacturer claims. I will certainly try it again and maybe apply a little more of the gel coat this time, particularly at the tips which was where it chipped, and see if they last any longer, if so I will revise this review.

I've become a big fan of gel manicures done professionally. They last a good few weeks but have a habit of ruining your nails! I've also considered buying home gel kits but was intrigued and interested to try the Rimmel Super Gel nail system - cheaper and less fiddly.I applied two coats of the super gel, followed by the top coat. The top coat has a thicker brush than I am used to but is easy to apply. I left it 10 minutes or so to dry. With professional gel nails it's hard to damage or smudge the nails. I found in the first hour of wearing that the polish was smudging therefore needing to be reapplied. Whilst it's advertised as a gel system,it won't produce the same effect as getting gel nails at a salon.Perhaps I need to be more patient when applying the polish and top coat but the beauty of gel nails is that you get it done and don't have to worry about them- they still look good after a week.I would consider other colours and using again though for me, they don't last 14 days and will need a little bit of TLC and reapplication from time to time.

The Super Gel range from Rimmel is designed to mimic the results of a salon gel manicure. I'm afraid that it over-promises on that claim, as do most polishes. The polish and topcoat combination do give a strong result, a result that mimics the results I get with a much more expensive polish and strong top-coat. However, it is not a good as a true gel manicure. There is no way mine will last the full 14-days and despite me being rough with my hands, I have had salon gel manicures in the past and they do withstand my clumsiness.Others have said how slow it is to dry. Compared to other standard polishes it seemed to perform identically, so I have no complaints. If people are comparing to the time a UV-cure gel takes to dry, then yes, this is considerably slower.I have found that the top-coat works really well with other polishes so I will be buying more topcoat to go along with all the different polishes that I have.So my opinion is that this is good value compared to other standard polishes, but it doesn't meet the robust claims for a 14-day polish.

This is a really nice nail varnish. While I wouldn’t disagree with the colour being described as ‘bright orange’, it could also easily be named ‘bright coral’ with no arguments from me. Either way, it is a nice, bright and pleasing colour which I received many compliments on. A perfect colour for spring or summer. The nail varnish glides on easily and is neither too gloopy or too wet. It seemed to dry quite quickly which was handy because I felt it needed a second, possibly even third, coat to really get the desired colour. In order to make this look like gel nails - you need to also have the super gel top coat. As I don’t have this, I just used this like normal nail varnish. Without the top coat, the nail varnish lasted about a week before it had to come off. It came off easily with regular nail varnish remover and left no stain or residue on my nails.I probably will look into getting the top coat as this is a nice colour that I can see myself wearing again. 4 stars.
