Essie Nail PolishNB - THIS REVIEW IS FOR 5 DIFFERENT SHADES:-*** 1st Review ***Essie Nail Polish in 'ZIP ME UP' No 160Here is my experience of 5 of these Essie Nail Lacquers!1st Impressions:• Gorgeous presentation, in a twisty shape glass bottle with a white screw top. It is nice and weighty and the unusual shape makes it easy to hold.• All the nail lacquers in this range have quirky names and they are Made in France.• As with most personal products these days, there's a peel back sticker on the screw cap, which provides a very long Ingredients List. However, being grey print on a white background and in really, really small print, you may find it difficult to read.Prior to testing on ALL the 5 colours,to get the best adhesion, I made sure my hands were freshly washed and without hand cream. When the varnish was removed, my nails did not feel in any way dry or uncomfortable. This applied to ALL the 5 colours tested. In Use:-.• The consistency of "ZIP ME UP" Shade No 160 nail polish was really quite thin, and care needed to be taken, so as not to drip it on something inappropriate!• Application with the fairly wide, but not too thick brush is simple. I did however find it difficult to avoid streaks.• I applied a second coat and it did not take too long for the first coat to dry.• This "ZIP ME UP" colour number 160 is a very pretty pale MINT GREEN. It is a gorgeous shade for summertime and is not a plain finish; it has a subtle satin sheen. It is a great colour for something a bit different.• This nail lacquer lasted well, and in my opinion, two coats were enough to get a good colour. This "ZIP ME UP" Colour Number 160 is a 4 star product. I have deducted 1 star due to the price.AND NOW*** 2nd Review ***Essie Nail Polish in 'COUTURE CURATOR' No 1401st Impressions are the same as the 1st review as shown above. In Use:-• The consistency of this shade of nail polish was as usual.• Application with the fairly wide, but not too thick brush is simple, with minimal streaking.• After the first coat had dried (which was a bit slow), I applied a second coat.• This "COUTURE CURATOR" colour number 140 is a pretty PEACHY CORAL PINK. It is a real summery shade that will look great with a tan. The finish of this nail lacquer is solid plain, with a very high shine.• This nail lacquer did not last that well when using 2 coats. It felt like it didn't really thoroughly dry or harden up, and consequently did not last. When only one coat was applied, the adhesion seemed better and the varnish lasted longer. This shade "COUTURE CREATOR" Colour Number 140 is a 3 star product, due to the price and the lack of longevity.AND NOW*** 3nd Review ***Essie Nail Polish in 'SPOOL ME OVER' No 201st Impressions are the same as the 1st review as shown above. In Use:-• The consistency of this nail polish was as usual.• Application with the fairly wide, slim thickness brush is simple. This colour went on quite well with minimal streaking.• As with Review 2, I found that the first coat took quite a while to dry, before I could apply a second coat.• This "SPOOL ME OVER" colour number 20 is a pale APRICOT PINK. It is a pale, but very solid summery shade. (A bit too solid and pale for my liking). The finish of this nail lacquer is a really high gloss.• Again, as with the shade at Review 2, this one did not last that well when using 2 coats. Somehow, it just didn't seem to harden up well, and because of this, it did not last. When only one coat was applied, the adhesion was a bit better with the lacquer lasting longer. This shade "SPOOL ME OVER" Colour Number 20 is also a 3 star product, due to the price and the lack of staying power.AND NOW*** 4th Review ***Essie Nail Polish in 'SEW ME' No 301st Impressions are the same as the 1st review as shown above. In Use:-• The consistency of this nail polish was as usual.• Application with the fairly wide, slim thickness brush is simple. This colour went on quite well with minimal streaking.• I applied a second coat and it did not take too long for the first coat to dry.• This "SEW ME" colour number 30 is a DUSKY ROSE PINK. It is an easy to wear colour and suitable for all seasons, and all age groups. The finish of this nail lacquer is nice gloss.• This nail lacquer lasted well, and in my opinion, two coats were enough to get a good colour. It also looked good with just one coat for a slightly more subtle look. This shade "SEW ME" Colour Number 30 is also a 4 star product, due to the price.AND FINALLY*** 5th Review ***Essie Nail Polish in 'FAIRY TAILOR' No 401st Impressions are the same as shown at the 1st review above. In Use:-• The consistency of this nail polish was as usual.• Application with the fairly wide, but slim thickness brush is simple. This colour went on really well and there was no streaking.• I applied a second coat and it did not take too long for the first coat to dry.• This "FAIRY TAILOR" Shade number 40 is a NATURAL, BARELY THERE SHEER GOSAMER PINK – A REALLY 'NUDE' LOOK. It is extremely easy to wear, suitable for all seasons and all age groups and is a 'less is more' result. The finish of this nail lacquer is gentle shine.• This nail lacquer is really long lasting, and looked good with just one coat for a natural look. A second coat enhanced this gentle colour and gave slightly more shine. This shade "FAIRY TAILOR" Colour Number 40 is a 4 star product, due to the price.NOTE - I did not use a top coat, and all the shades of this Essie Nail Polish were removed with a basic Nail Polish Remover using cotton wool pads.In respect of the pics - sorry the quality is not great, they are just taken with a simple mobile phone. The colour samples in the left are to show 1 coat of the nail varnish, and the samples on the right are with 2 coats. Hope they help a bit.

This new gel collection from Essie has very quickly become the only type of nail polish that I want to use.I was reluctant to try these at first because I have noticed that a lot of brands have started to release so-called gel formulas that are said to last and look like gel. After having tried these with little success I was sceptical of all budget alternatives to gel. However, upon first use of one of these polishes, I quickly realised that these are not the same as other brands who claim that their formula is like gel.Like the original Essie nail polishes, which are my favourite over other brands like OPI,these polishes have a lovely wide brush which makes it easy to cover your whole nail in one sweep. After having put on one coat of the polish I could tell that it was much thicker than normal nail polishes and I hardly needed a second coat. Adding an additional layer merely added more shine and made it look ever more like gel on my nails. After the polish dried down it looked thick and glossy, just like a gel. I have to say I was very impressed because I've never had such results from painting my nails at home. The colour lasted on my nails for around a week without chipping, which I was extremely happy with because I normally can't even last a day. I eventually ended up removing it, not bcause I needed to, but because I just wanted a change of colour.I am so impressed with these polishes that I ended up getting several colours and find that I am only reaching for them when I want a manicure. I know I can rely on them for long lasting results that look great. The colour selection is extremely wide and has way more choice than any other gel alternative that I've come across. I've managed to find similar colours to all of the usual Essie formula colours that I wear, plus a few new favourites. The price is astounding for the quality of the product and you are also getting a really nice bottle which looks unique and pretty. The one criticism I have of this polish is that it takes a little longer to dry than the regular Essie formulation, but I suspect that this is down to the thicker consistency and it is worth the extra wait.I have been using these without the gel top coat because I feel impressed with the results that I am getting without it. I can only imagine that this would increase shine even more and may possibly help with the longer drying time.Overall, I highly recommend these to anyone who is tired of painting their nails every few days and is looking to spend their money on something that works and will make them fall head over heels for a new range of colours

My wife reviewI love this! I bought the gel couture duo in 'Rock the Runway,' and I've only had to paint my nails 2 times in the last 2 weeks~~ and a few of those were only touch-ups to cover the growing nails. This isn't as tough or impermeable as a salon gel or shellac manicure, but it doesn't dry out or wreck your nails like the salon ones can, either. It definitely lasts longer than any regular polish, and a little longer than the 10x Butter London polishes, which is what I've been using. As a normal human being, I find I frequently use my hands for many exciting things, such as: washing dishes, opening cans of cat food, and scraping labels off of boxes so I can return something to Amazon,et cetera. As such, I was overjoyed when these Essie Gel Couture colors came out, because they were supposed to be almost as bulletproof as a "gel polish manicure," for at least a week. LOL, no.Tip wear along the free edge of your nail happens almost immediately, which is annoying, but not a dealbreaker, since only UV-cured gel is immune to that. The top surface of your nail color does stay shinier for several days longer than regular polish, but it's also shrinking as it cures, so on Day 1 it looks thick and plush, like the candy coated look of a UV-cured gel, but on Day 3-4, it looks a lot thinner, just like regular polish......so I might as well just remove my polish and re-do it! I suppose if you are the type to not care about tip wear and small chips, this might buy you an extra few days---but honestly, even if you have poor eyesight, I suspect you'll be dying to remove this after roughly 5 days.On the positive side, it removes extremely easily---faster than many of my regular polishes even---and you only need to use regular polish remover. This set also worked great for my impatient side: I only needed one coat for full color , and I only needed to wait about a minute to apply the top coat. (Meaning I started with the top coat roughly 6 seconds after finishing the first coat.) Coverage-wise, it definitely had more accurate colors and coverage than others. My only problem was with the brush— it has a split in the middle that got more pronounced after the 3rd use, but that may just be a problem with me and my left-handedness; I'm always running into oddball issues like that.

Make The Cut is a light grey, with a pearlescent finish. A perfect all-rounder; suits all ages, all skintones, all occasions, all seasons.Rock The Runway is a scarlet cream; red polish has been loved ever since Nefertiti and Cleopatra wore them to indicate power and their social hierarchy placing, and this hue is a wonderful shade for any skintone, any time of the yearSignature Smile is a bubblegum shade of pink, with a cream finish. Fabulous for this time of year; the white undertone makes the shade pop against skin, for an instant tanning effect. A lovely shade, but admittedly not unique.Sit Me In The Front Row is a suits-everyone raspberry shade, with a cream finish. Again; very pretty and extremely wearable, but not in the slightest bit original.Stitch By Stitch is a light pink cream, with a not-too-cool but not-too-warm neutral base. The regular Essie line has around a dozen similar shades on offer, so I don't know why they had to make another one._Now for the good part; whilst Essie tends to go for 'safe' shades and finishes for their polishes, the actual product formulation for their Gelcouture range is superb; you're getting the non-streaky, high-shine, plump look of a gel polish, without the need to buy the pricey heaters that you need to use to cure a gel polish. Then there's also no need to worry about the tricky removal and damage to nails that a real gel polish causes.I'm very tough on my hands and nails, so I find that their Gel effect polishes don't wear much better than their regular polishes do on me [one to two days more - nothing close to twelve days], but the formula is so smooth and non-staining, there is less mess & streakiness, and the paddle brush is excellent for my nail shape - I definitely prefer their Gel Effect polishes over their regular line.If you are not bothered about extending the wear of the polish for as long as possible, then you can use any topcoat over this line of polishes, rather than buy the topcoat that goes with it.

I wasn't convinced that this nail varnish would be anything like gel varnish as I've tried a few different brands claiming to be as good as gel and it's not been true for me so far (even with expensive brands like Nails Inc). However this is completely different! I find it's best to even out and lightly buff my nails over before applying this. It makes a smooth surface and makes it go on perfectly first time. It's important to get the right amount on the brush because too thin a layer makes it streaky and bumpy, too much means it will get dented / damaged because it won't dry properly.I do 2 coats and this creates a perfectly opaque finish. The major pluses with this vs actual gel:+ lasts approx10 days and grows out rather than chipping (I take lots of baths and do the washing up so I normally chip a varnish within 24 hours and within 3 days it looks so bad I have to remove it all). After 10 days I only had one small crack on each thumb and it was slightly wearing away on the ends of all my nails.+ doesn't need professional application+ cheaper+ you can easily remove with normal nail varnish to chop and change shades whenever you fancy+ doesn't wreck or dry nails at all+ protects nails while growing themLove it!My take on the colours I own:Pastels (Spool me over, make the cut, pre-show jitters)All the pastels have a slight element of pearl to it but only enough to give a slight sheen; it's not completely pearly just stops the colour appearing flat or dull.SPOOL ME OVERA delicate baby pink. It's a natural pale pink and not too girly pink.MAKE THE CUTA sophisticated pale mushroom shade. Great for every day wear to match any outfit.PRE-SHOW JITTERSPearlescent off-white, very pure and 3D unlike other cheap looking whites which end up looking like you got creative with the tip-ex.BUBBLES ONLY:Oxblood, deep and glossy high shine dark red. No pearl. Really glam! Perfect for a night out or darker outfits.

Not for personal use but passed to a female within the family for the purpose of testing.Essie, as a brand, is not one known from prior use as are several nails only brands and others offering this type of product. The range of colours currently offered is quite extensive and includes several 'nudes' plus the expected pinks, brighter reds and some darker colours, for the most part fairly traditional and unremarkable and lacking the 'poppier' colours and glitters that some may include."essie Gel Couture Nail Polish, 40 Fairy Tailor 13.5 ml" is a subtle beige-nude and may appear as a natural nail colour for some of its users. The user had ceased using bright nail colours some years ago and now prefers the softer and paler shades. The bottle is slightly larger than is standard (most appear to contain around 10ml) and moderately priced for that larger quantity. The polish appears to be of a fairly standard formulation without offering claims of something extra by way of moisturising or repair capabilities, nail strengthening etc.The polish does not dry to a high gloss finish, perhaps soft gloss may be a better description, but that may be intentional in order to preserve its appearance as 'natural'; other colours in the range may offer a high gloss but no others were tested. It could augment a collection that may include other brands, favourite colours or effect finishes that are not currently within the range for those occasions when they may be best left unused. Those often prohibited from wearing nail polishes at work, e.g. nurses and other medical staff, may be able to use this with impunity. The manufacturers claim it to be a couture product - possibly as H.M. The Queen favours one of its colours - the unusually decorative bottle certainly gives that impression and its contents may be, but it will be a very economical addition to a collection.

I have been using home gel nails and lamp for about 3 years now- but sometimes I can't always find the spare hour needed to use this system and was keen to see how normal good brand nail polishes had upped their game in the last few years. I already had one Essie gel colour and this was a new one to my collection. So firstly it goes on extremely well, very evenly, and the brush has been well designed to cover the nail very easily, I do mine in just two strokes, and sometimes one. The dry time between each coat is very quick, and I normally paint the second layer within about 3 minutes. After 2 coats I then apply their recommended top coat (although)this is not included in the price and you have to buy is separately- but it is recommended as a two step process, and their instructions advise topping up the top coat every couple of days. So the final look of the nail is glossy, and quite smooth, and actually looks very much like a gel finish- not quite the same, but certainly not far off, and much better than a standard nail varnish. So on to whether the nail varnish held up- their website lays claim to chip free colour for up to 10 days. I have to say that this was not the case for me- a couple of days before a chip, but if I did have a chip it was very easy to just put an extra layer on that nail and it didn't seem to look odd. I have given four stars, as it as certainly did not last anything as long as they suggest.I found the colour very odd to describe, it is pearlescent, a little bit grey- a kind of iridescent moonshine- very beautiful - but not for me on my skin tone- although I would happily buy product this in colours that are a bit brighter. I would recommend this product for easy application, and gel effect for a few days- not quite gel, but as it only takes a few minutes- its no big deal to reapply.

This is the best foundation I have found. I've previously used the Loreal True Match in Rose Ivory (lightest) which is very good but a little too dark for me. This in 'porcelain' is one of the palest foundation shades I have ever seen- which is perfect for me. I noticed a difference even with just a light coat.Specifically I wanted a foundation with full coverage. With 1 coat this is definitely a nice medium. Having previously used so many light-medium coverage foundations I wanted a change.I have very dry skin and as such I still had to use quite a bit of moisturiser as a base. Allow it to soak in and then apply. It goes on smooth and has a fairly thick texture, almost slightly creamy but it isn't drying. After a while I noticed my skin began to look nice and hydrated. It wasn't shiny but you could see a complete difference. I had no peeling or anything and it has stayed on all day with no streaks or smudges! Don't overdo concealer, especially if it isn't liquid. I do have quite dry skin so I dabbed a tiny bit of moisturiser in some of my more sensitive skin patches before putting concealer on.It can be applied with a sponge, fingers or brush. I advise if you do have dry skin not to just slap loads on. Build it up, as I said, it has a slightly thick/creamy texture. One the skin when you touch it does not transfer at all and your skin feels fresh without being tacky or feeling like there's foundation on it. You can feel the coverage but it doesn't smother the skin, feel or look cakey. It has a strong floral smell when applied for a little while. Usually I cannot stand faux floral smells but this one is very nice and even my boyfriend commented on it.Overall I recommend this product highly. I didn't bother to set it with anything as it just didn't need it! such good quality for the price as well.

I looove essie nail polish. They are one of my favourite brands, so I was super excited to get my hands on these to try. I went a little overboard and got about 15 colours in total. As a whole, I love this collection. The colour are fresh and pretty and I love not having to apply a base coat with them. They come with the normally essie brush, which is slightly curved, which makes applying the nail polish a dream.I noticed that across the range the darker colours have a really lovely consistency. They apply smoothly and are normally opaque in just 2 coats which was amazing. And another big plus is that none of them stained my nails - even the blackish green/ dark reds. However, the same cannot be said for the lighter colours. The more pale shades were quite patchy and difficult to apply. Some of them I applied 3, or even 4 coats and they still weren't a great finish (partly because I had to layer so much nail varnish). The top coat is nice but a little more tricky to apply than normal. The life of these colours on the nails was good, but no great. You can get maybe 5 days with no chips if your'e careful.... but in the past I have got this using normal essie nail polish and just using their 'Gel Setter' top coat.I love the idea of this range but it's too hit and miss for me. The darker shades are amazing and I would recommend them based on the colours and how easy they are to apply, but I would steer clear of the paler shades. I also think that I would only by these Gel Couture colours again for the colour of the polish, rather than because of the extra life it gives my manicure because they really don't last any longer than normal nail varnish.

I like Essie polishes, they are generally two coat wonders and the brush in this edition is fantastic, almost twisty but flat meaning it just slides on in an almost perfect one coat and the formulation makes it fully opaque in two. This polish is part of the gel system which extends wear to a week or so but can be worn without the sunlight curing top coat and lasts 2-3 days on average without chipping near the edges.Take me to thread is part of the couture collection based around neutrals with fashion designer themed names. It is a gorgeous mushroom-mauve which sounds awful but is really pretty - a sort of deep greige with a purple-bruisey tone to it.It's been commented on as such a pretty and sophisticated colour by several people even though it is very unassuming and doesn't scream HELLO world I've got nail varnish on!To me this is the perfect neutral as it isn't the 'nude' cream/pink/peach that never quite looks right, it's got colour but is quiet and understated blending into different settings as 'dressed' but not distracting.I can't attest to the two step system as we were only provided with colour not top coat but overall I'm pleased with the colour and formulation enough to invest further, and of course you could top with a different brands gel curing coat but I can't recommend to the results as they only state brand matching.Overall I would definitely buy this (may stockpile a few as its a limited edition collection) as its such a perfectly pretty neutral and a sophisticated tone that could work in many settings both casual, formal and professional.

That's the last time I used this polish, and that is a very long time for me, my nails were not really too bad,but I was going out to lunch and wanted to look well groomed.I put on 2 coats of polish followed by top coat,it didn't take long to dry between coats and it lasted through showers, hand washing, hair colouring, gardening, hand washing a duvet and manhandling onto the washing line and all the little things that normally make my polish start to chip within hours, even with a top coat.I had got fed up with doing my nails,as it was such a thankless job,but now I can't wait to do them as I know they will look good for days.I find the flat wide brush works much better than the normal roundone, and I love the Essie shades. The ones I have tried are Style in Excess,a lovely dusky lilac,Hang Up the Heels,it looks black but has a jade shimmer when it catches the light, very sophisticated, Looks to Thrill,a gorgeous kind of pale creamy orange,Couture Curator, a delicate pale pink,Stitch by Stitch,a slightly darker pink, and Model Citizen, which is a beautiful pale fuchsia.I love all the shades I've tried and can't wait to give the others a go.As long as I use the top coat they last a good while, they're easy to apply and make my nails look great.I won't use any other brand now.UPDATE this latest manicure has lasted me two whole weeks now with 3 small touch-ups,my nails are longer and stronger, the polish and top coat together are really very wear resistant,I just can't believe how much better my nails look all the time now.

We had two polishes from this range for review, so we`ve combined both for the purposes of this assessment; the products were Essie 140 ‘couture curator’ and Essie 410 ‘hang up the heels’.My tester says “I was instantly attracted to these eye catching nail polishes by their attractive and quirky bottles. The bottle is distinctively twisted which not only draws attention but also fits ergonomically well between the fingers. So far so good. - Funky colours labelled by number and fancy names which give no clue to their colour.Who could know that 'couture curator' was a baby pinkish colour? - Well, who cares for its title if you can hold it in your hand and see for yourself what colour it is?The problem however comes with the darker polishes. ‘Take Hang up the heels’ for example - you could be forgiven for thinking it might be a deep dark green or blue. In fact I was rather hoping it was, but disappointingly it turned out to be black. The polishes themselves are comparable to your average high street polishes but I have to say they did take a while to dry. I found the 'couture curator' particularly tacky and didn’t stand up well to everyday wear and tear. The black polish for whatever reason seemed a bit tougher. In conclusion, funky polishes with immediate design appeal with quirky titles and stylish bottle. Product itself didn’t quite live up to first impressions due to its slow drying time and mixed durability depending on colour.”Overall a 3 ½ to 4 star rating.

I’ve had gel nail varnish put on at a salon so was excited to try this one at home and see how it compares. First impressions have been good, the colour is true to the picture online, it applied well and gave a slightly more sheer coverage which is fine for my short natural nails as it doesn’t draw too much attention to them but still gives them a nice look. I must admit I didn’t realise I’d need to buy the gel top coat to use this so I decided to give it a go on it’s own without using that to see how long it lasted on its own. On my nails without the required top coat you’re meant to apply it gave a very small little chip on the tip of one nail on the 1st full day, usually that would mean the rest of the varnish on that nail would be off within a few hours but it’s still lasted to day 3 so far without getting any bigger. I’ve also got a chip on the side of my thumb nail now so I think I’ll need to remove it soon. I now have both this gel nail varnish and the essie express one so I thought I’d put them to the test to compare which one worked better for me. I painted the essie express on my left hand and this essie gel one on my right hand. The essie express gave a more solid colour, doesn’t need a base or top coat and feels surprisingly a bit more gel like on my nail. That one hasn’t chipped at all, doesn’t require a base or top coat, covered better, is cheaper and has lasted longer so I’d recommend that one over this one personally.

A review from my wife...I absolutely love this product! This gel nail varnish is extremely easy to apply with the large brush in the bottle. I found that it dried extremely quickly; By the time I had painted all my nails, it was dry enough and ready for the second coat. I used the recommended top coat, which again could be applied a few seconds later. The top coat perhaps took the longest to dry but it was no more than three or four minutes. I was eager to see if this lived up to the promise of twelve days of uninterrupted, non-pealing colour. With the nails on my right hand (dominant hand), I found that the colour was starting to chip off after five days but it was easy enough to touch this up to last another couple of days. The colour on my left hand nails lasted slightly longer for around seven days without chipping. The colour on my toe nails applied at the same time is still completely unchipped and beautiful after three weeks.I find the design of these bottles delightfully different and unique. It also has the added benefit of fitting neatly in the hands to apply the nail varnish. The colour ‘Sit Me in the Front Row’ is a gorgeous bright pink that will complement any skin shade beautifully. I have had several comments from others both about the vibrancy of the colours and the convincing gel-like appearance.I am very pleased with this product and will definitely be trying more colours from this range. Highly recommended!

I have had the Essie gel Nail Polish on my toenails for 3 weeks now and have not experienced any chipping with it at all, which I am very impressed with. I have 'Zip Me Up', which is a light mint colour (pictured, with 2 coats) and is a perfect summery shade for those who like light coloured polishes. I haven't used the gel top coat with this product yet, and so was amazed at how long it has lasted based on just the base product. Obviously on fingers is does chip more easily, as you are constantly using them, but the formula of this polish is nice and thick and I have worn it for 3 to 4 days on fingernails with no real damage- it definitely compares with other good quality polishes on the market.I'll try the top coat in the future, as will buy others in this range based on the strength of this one.I love the bottles Essie uses, they have a twisted shape which makes them really easy to hold and the brush is a good width and easy to load up with the correct amount. It adheres well to my nails and I find is less messy to apply than some of the thinner polishes I own, such as Rimmel ones, where I tend to end up with more on the surrounding skin (not sure if that's just me!). Once applied it is touch dry in about 2 minutes, but takes a little longer to fully set, so I tend to put this on when I have 10 minutes spare. As I say, I'd certainly buy from Essie again- a lovely quality product and a nice range of colour options.
