I live in a flat so noise is an issue and I don't want to disturb my neighbours with noisy electric shredders so this is ideal. My process is to scan in the document to PDF, remove the parts of the document that contain personal data and put the rest for recycling. I then shred the bits containing personal data one page/ripped off half page at a time. It does confetti shred so you get the increased security. Occasionally I empty the container into a black bag and once that's full I will give it a good shake and start putting a few handfuls in with my normal rubbish. This way, even if someone tried to piece it all together, it's unlikely that they would have all the bits. One point to consider though...you need to put some pressure on the top of the shredder while turning the handle to stop it from sliding. It can be a bit cumbersome and I think it really needs a handle fitting to make it easier to apply the pressure. If you're perhaps elderly, or if you've got weak arms, you may find it a bit of a strain to have to keep applying pressure to the top each time you shred a page. And I'm not saying that all elderly people have weak arms; my 79 year old father could probably beat me in an arm wrestle... but you know what I mean. The CD and credit card shredders work well. The CD is cut into three pieces or thereabouts, and credit cards are sliced into four pieces.I would have given it five stars if it wasn't for the fact that you have to apply pressure during the shred. The fact that it works best when shredding one page at a time was never an issue.

I had an electric shredder which took up too much floor space and was a pain to set up for my light home usage. The bin on this one is a third of the usual size and fits on a table top. It makes no noise so I can shred something late at night without waking the neighbours. I can put two light pieces of paper through at the same time, but I am not in such a hurry that I need to stress the plastic handle which is the achilles heel of this machine. I did try the thinnest photocard and it resisted. So, as I am happy to put one piece of paper in at a time and I rarely have more than a few pieces to shred a day, this is ideal and convenient for me. If I had lots to do and speed was an issue then I would buy an electric one.- And it is a cross-cut shredder which is a lot more secure and the bin does not fill up so quickly because the smaller cuttings compact better.Four star not five because the handle is adequate only if no stress is put on it and there are no carry handles/grips so it would be easy to drop and break.

This product came heavier than I thought; a lot more sturdier than other manual operated shredders. The shredder is CROSS CUT, which was the main buying point for me, and it shreds paper into approx. 20mm x 3mm (small strips). However, for longevity I would strongly recommend only putting in ONE sheet at a time, since you seem to need a lot more force to shred more than one in the same instance. The main down point for me is that the handle can be a little flimsy, you have to make sure you're pushing it towards the centre of the machine as well as rotating it, and you also have to be holding the top in place as well as the box to stop it moving about. When shredding CDs/Cards,I highly recommend putting using your thumb to support the mounting point of the handle and using the rest of your hand to crank it - since you need to apply more force.

I purchased this shredder to replace my electrical one which eventually gave up the ghost after about 3 years of usage. So far I have been very impressed with the performance of the Draper. Papers (and thin cards) can be cross shredded effectively provided that one sheet is inserted at a time. So it is perfect for home use but not if you need to shredd large volumes on a regular bases. The card shredder dealt with my old credit card very well - cutting it into thin stripes. Have not tried the CD cuttter yet so can't comment on it yet.Overall it does exactly what you would expect a hand operated shredder to do.It is important to hold the unit with the other hand or keep it on a flat surface so that it is easier to hold it in place to prevent sideways movement while turning the handle.

This product is exactly what I wanted - to destroy occasional bills, hospital letters etc that need to be shredded for privacy. I love it - it is very enjoyable feeding in a letter/bill and munching it up for the recycling and feeling that you are getting on top of clutter. I don't understand the complaints in other reviews re the handle - it is perfectly fine - they must be particular ham-fisted or trying to munch more than one letter at a time. This is not the gadget for getting rid of 20 yrs of old bank statements in one go - you will need a large electric office one for that - luckily I got rid of my backlog of documents by using the one at work and now I can keep on top of my home filing with this one at home.Perfect.

I've had this for a couple of months now and on the whole I'm happy with it.I have to disagree with it's claim to "shred up to three sheets of paper in one go", when it struggles with only two. On thicker paper / card / CD's you have to be careful with the handle too, as it seems like it may snap at any moment. However, one sheet at a time and it's fine, so if you keep on top of what you want to dispose of, then you shouldn't have any problems. Moreover, it doesn't waste any needless electricity shredding or sitting on standby. For me, as a home user, it works fine for the occasional bank statement / bill / receipt, but for a frequent /business user then it you may like to consider something a little beefier.

I have just received this product, I had some documents ready to shred as soon as it arrived. Was very impressed with the look of it,did all my shredding with no problems. Can't understand the problems some people have had. Common sense tells you on using it first time, its better to shred one sheet of paper at a time. Was heavier than my last draper shredder which I found very good. The pads underneath the base is very good to stop it sliding. Will look forward to using it again when I need to shred more paper. Hopefully it will last as long as my old which I had a long time ago.If treated with some ,tlc it should last a long time.

For home use this little bit of kit is perfect. I am 71 and had no problem in shredding the weeks build up of headed letters and other forms with our address or sensitive details since the demise of the old electric shredder. The paper is well shredded and if there is a bit of build up a few reverse turns sorts it out.I think a bit of common-sense is needed with regard to how many sheets to shred at once. One seem a good number! The shredded paper is good for the compost heap ,better than torn up bits of paper. At the price it is a good bit of kit.David T

I ordered this shredder after my electric one burnt out. This shredder is compact and easy to store and operate with nothing to plug in and safer than an electric shredders. Paper is shredded into very small pieces just a fee millimetres wide so totally secure. CD and credit cards are shredded into wider strips so best to check that the credit card number is split. The build quality is good and more solid than I expected.I'm well pleased with this item.

I bought this having had two supposedly heavy duty electric personal shredders, both of which failed miserably to do their job properly. This is fine for home use. It cross cuts paper into small pieces, which is ideal. I haven't tried the credit card or CD shredder to comment on how they work. The turning handle does feel a bit flimsy for the task but I treat it gently and so far it's held up to the job.

Much better than my former hand shredder - cuts paper into narrow, short strips. Would be much harder to put them back together. I only do 1 sheet at a time, although it says it takes 2. Cuts credit cards into 4 strips. I would not recommend it for use with a lot of paper, but for bank statements, bills etc it is really great, and it has made me feel more secure when disposing of sensitive paperwork.

Have had no problems since bought. As others have said, shred 1 sheet at a time though. Shredded DVDs and CDs and plastic cards with no problems. Provided you take care when turning handle slowly and hold device with other hand firmly you will not go wrong. Shreds paper very well into small pieces (horizontal and across) and CDs, DVDs and plastic cards into 3 strips.

We had no experience of this model but on receiving it we weredelighted with its performance. It did exactly what the advertsaid, was easy to assemble and use, and we cannot fault theproduct. It was also the first time we had ordered by internet and wewere very impressed with the efficient way in which our order wasprocessed and the speed of delivery

I bought one of these over 2 years ago and have worked it quite hard getting through a backlog of paper. It's best just to shred one piece of paper at a time. Obviously it's much slower than an electric one but then it's quieter, more convenient for the occasional sheet and takes up less storage room in a small flat. I've been very pleased with it.

Although at the beginning I thought this is kind of unstable due to the fact that is all plastic, it works really well. It does what it has to do: it cuts CDs really great, smashes cards and cuts paper. For the money I paid, it is great. It can not be compared with an automatic one, but as long as you spin the grasp, does it job really good.
