I trekked and climbed on Mount Everest with this backpack. I know it is rated as 30kg carrying weight but believe it or not, as a solo climber, I loaded it up with 42kg's of gear and it was happy to take more (Yes I have stretch marks on my shoulders but that's not the backpacks fault) It's as tough as nails since it was dropped, dragged, sat on, stood on, rained on, fell on, and snowed on. I actually used it as a cushion if and when I fell, I'm pretty clumsy. The lid can actually take quite a bit of gear, actually more than it should because I ended up loading the lid with stuff that I needed in a hurry but it made the pack a little top heavy for me. Very handy that the lid can be raised evenly with the 4 point adjustable straps, depending on how much stuff you put in the main compartment. The base is very cool for stuffing a sleeping bag in, without having to use the sleeping bags own pouch. Waist pocket is very cool, not really sure why the pack doesn't come with one on both sides, it is currently only fitted with a right waist pocket. Still, handy for a cell phone, ipod, camera etc. I love all the extra hooks and straps sowed to the bag, really cool for a mountaineer to hang gear from. Also for drying wet clothes while you trekking. I think I hung more gear externally than I did actually load inside the bag. The front outside kangaroo pouch is very cool and handy. I kept my Goal Zero solo panel folded up inside, easy to access and kept the solo panel upright. The straps are comfortable and again, they come with more hooks and places to hang things from. I have 2 of these packs, a red and a green so that's testimony alone that I am in favor. Deuter has my vote.

I've had the bag for many years now (I bought the older model), and it has served me well. The shoulder straps do tend to bruise my collar bones, but I think I just need to adjust them better. I love how the main compartment can be accessed from the top or front, and the stowage for water bottles is excellent. The compartments in compartments are good places for my stuff I want to really keep safe, and the capability to tie things to the pack makes it extremely handy when hiking.
