I've had one of these installed in our home office for about 9 months now, replacing a 'consumer' 8-way switch which had run out of ports. Installation is uncomplicated, it has a web-form based control interface which you can drive from any browser, so there's no software to install. The only real setup to do is giving it an IP address (assuming the default isn't what you want), then it's ready to go as a simple 10/100/1G switch. You can then turn on additional settings (packet filtering, VLAN, etc) as required.I'm pleased to report that in my setting it's performed flawlessly since it was first turned on; I'm not doing anything particularly esoteric with it, but it's never crashed or needed fiddling with.Importantly (for me) it's silent in operation and doesn't use a lot of electricity (under 10 Watts), so doesn't get hot.One thing to note - this isn't the version which does power-over-ethernet; that's the -28P model.Update 27/7/14: If you're curious as to what a managed switch will let you do, I'm using these features:(a) Traffic Segmentation, which lets you control which destinations traffic arriving at a particular port can be sent to. So, I have a 'guest' wi-fi access point; its port can talk to the Internet gateway, but not any other machines (e.g. workstations and servers) attached to the network.(b) ACL (access control list) - this lets you set up a pretty comprehensive firewall between ports. I've got a server which is allowed HTTP access by anyone, but with general access (e.g. SSH) only from specific devices as identified by MAC address.(c) SNMP, which lets you monitor statistics (packet counts, byte counts, etc) on a port-by-port basis.

This is an excellent switch for the price. The interface is slightly old-fashioned, and you need to remember to save your configuration changes to the non-volatile ram after you've made them (changes work as soon as you select them, but when you are happy with them, you also need to save to NVR, or you'll find that if the system goes off for any reason, it'll be back to the original settings when it comes back on). Once you know what's happening, this is quite a useful feature (it's easy to completely break your network if you configure VLANS incorrectly - or at least I find it easy): you just need to turn it off an on again to get back to the last-known-good configuration! It's silent, which is great if it's in your TV room (like mine is). I use it to power/network a couple of Zyxel wireless-AC hotspots, and it works great. You can see exactly how much power they are using. It's a very solid piece of kit, suitable for professional use.It was exactly what I was looking for, and I'm very pleased with it.

cons: can only be managed by ipv4, (static or dynamic)dlinks browser discovery app seemed to not work on linux [i read the instructions so not a big problem.pros: looks decent for vlansyou turn off unused ports to save energy, lights indicate ethernet speed better than our existing idiot switch.Power brick is not massive in size and does not take up several slots.Works with ipv6 but with limited ipv4 addresses left i would only use for internal networks and not on public ip'sThe cable testing feature did not seem to work, and having stats like ethernet errors is worthwhile something a lot of routers do not offer.A nice tool to have if perhaps in need of ipv6 support for its http web interface. The http interface is not an issue and one i prefer being the warnings you get with bad tls certs on printers/routers et al these days tha t your average browser freaks out on.

D-Link switches are staggeringly fast and I find them 100% reliable - this one is no exception. It is fantastic value and capable of driving any network - I even user cheapo D-Link switches for iSCSI SAN demos as they're potable and faster than any switch at the same price (much faster than some switches at 5x-10x the price in my experience).I actually run this switch off a USB cable (it is only 5V and draws so little power) - to save on the number of 'wall wart' chargers I have plugged-in - what other blisteringly-fast switch can you do that with?!

Excellent for the price, my unit runs a bunch of POE wireless routers spread over an 18th Century London house - now offices. Easy to set up. Gave up on VLAN's -not because of this device but the £1000+ HP switch that needs £2K+ worth of training just to understand. 10 ports is a great idea when 8 are just not quite enough.

This is a good switch it does what it says and its POE. (i have it in a ceiling void with an AP903 off a camera POE feed) there is nothing bad to say about it it works at 1Gb with no problems. however it wont respond to a who has 192.168... this for the most part will not bother anybody.

Received a revision B1 switch - which is 802.3at PoE capable (up to 30W). This has a fast WebUI, and also supports SNMP, RSTP, port mirroring, VLANs, and 9216 jumbo frames. For the price it is astounding, just a shame it doesn't include rack mount ears.

The only failing with this switch is that it does not support SNMP, so it won't appear in your management solution. I dropped a star for that, as you should expect to get SNMP on a managed switch. Other than that, it is a great product.

Silent, fanless. Plenty of good management features for almost an unmanaged price.Edit, nearly 4 years on, never touched it, Shame not to use all the features I'd planned to but it still just works.

Does what it states on the tin, I work in an IT environment and this switch proved reliable and easy to use for the job it was required to do. Plug in and connect your devices to it, simple as that.

Excellent small easy to use switch, just plug the cables in and away you go. All my devices are now networked with a good throughput.

Good quality. Have not used Dlinks managed switches before. Easy enough to setup Vlans and works well so far.

Best home switch. Gigabit interface and does VLANS. Perfect if you are a computer student with a home lab :P

Works well but the web interface isn't that nice. One of the few 8 port fanless PoE switches.
