My Virgin Broadband router is in the master bedroom, but most of my internet enabled devices (Xbox One, Playstation 4, Sky+, Smart TV, Laptop) are situated or used in the Living Room. When I last had the floorboards up I only ran one cable, because back then I could rely on the Wi-Fi Connection. Unfortunately that is no longer the case, the router seems to slowly be giving up the ghost and with Virgin refusing to even sell me a replacement, I'm having to wire in all my devices. As I was preparing to have the floorboards up again to run three more cables, I saw on Amazon's Black Friday Deals that this switch was due to come on offer, and that reminded me that such a product exists. It's so easy to install, you just plug it into a power socket, and then connect the switch to the router with an Ethernet cable, and then you have four more ports to plug other devices into. There's no set up, no web-based management page (or if there is one, I've not needed to use it), it's literally just a plug and play device. My only gripes with it are that the power supply port and the Ethernet ports are on opposite sides of the device, so there is no real tidy way to have this sitting in your living room. There are slots in the bottom to attach the switch to a wall or desk with the included screws, which I plan to use to attach it to the TV unit, and I am looking into some cable fixing methods I can use to help with cable management a bit. So right now it looks untidy, but it does the job perfectly. No need to bring up floorboards to run cables, I just used the one cable I ran previously and now I have four devices running on just one cable. No need to rely on the router's extremely poor Wi-Fi and having to reconnect the Sky+ box manually each time it drops out. Well impressed. The switch itself is very light, and seems to be made of a metal material, perhaps aluminium. It is also very sturdy. The only reason this dropped a star was because of the location of the power input port compared to the rest of the ports, there's no tidy way to have this in a living room as a result, especially with a baby who is likely to be attracted to the flashing lights, I need to adopt cable management asap, before she can toddle about. The device itself is flawless, I haven't had to touch it, or even look at it, since I installed it.Pros:- Small and light, but sturdy, metal design.- Allows 4 devices to connect through one Ethernet connection to the router- Gigabit speedsCons:- Power input port could be placed on the same face as the Ethernet Ports so I can have no cables showing at all to the front of the device.

I bought this based on other positive Amazon reviews, the purpose being to make more sense of the cabling in my lounge.I currently have my Billion BiPAC 7800DXL router connected to:Billion BiPAC 7800DXL Triple WAN Dual Band Wireless N Gigabit ADSL2+/Fibre 3G/4G LTE Broadband Router with USB PortSmart TVXBOXSteam LinkPowerline ExtenderAs a result all the ports on the router were used so no room for expansion and at times i noticed the transfer speeds to become a little sluggish especially with all the other wifi devices that were connected to it. So as it was on offer during the Black Friday sales i took a chance. It arrived next day via Prime delivery. I purchased the metal version which feels incredibly sturdy,it can be wall mounted if you wish. Set up is as simple as plugging one cable from the router to the switch and then everything else to the switch directly. Plug in the standard wall wart PSU that comes with it and let it do the rest. The cables i used are:CSL - 5 x 0.5m CAT.6 Flat Ethernet Gigabit Lan Network Cable (RJ45) | 10/100/1000Mbit/s | Patch cable / broadband cable | compatible with CAT.5 / CAT.5e / CAT.7 | blackSince installation i have overall noticed a much smoother connection on all devices, so happy with the upgrade. I am no expert in terms of networking but for my purpose it suits me perfectly.

Connect the cables and that is it. No drama. With my old ~5m cat5 cables connecting my small server and 5 clients, the switch is able to sustain 70MB/sec transfer speed without using jumbo packets, and 80MB/sec transfer speed with 9K jumbo packets configured in both computers. That is ~7 times faster than with my old 100Mbit hub, and I was not expecting to get this high speed without cat5e/cat6 cables. With two client computers downloading simultaneously from two different computers, the switch does not seem to be the bottleneck: transfer speed at both clients is still the same 70MB/sec. The switch does not warm up at all even with full traffic in 6 ports. The only nasty surprise was that the power supply is integrated to UK-style wall plug, and there is no adapter included... Should have expected that though, buying from co.uk domain. Anyway this is the only English Amazon site in the EU, but you cannot plug this product directly to standard EU-area wall plug. So a word of advice for other EU-area buyers: you will need an adapter, or another supply. In my case, I happened to have a spare 5v 2amp power supply that works easily with this switch that requires 5v 1amp.

Again - for me this was a Prime Day sales purchase - I've already got a 8 port Gigabit switch from Asus which has PoE built into it, but I purchased that at full price and imported it from the US for well over 100 GBP (I love Asus kit). This however was a discounted item (14.65 GBP !) and I decided that I just had to have it at that price - it will come in useful if I ever need it.Whilst this switch doesn't offer PoE and is unmanaged, it is a Gigabit switch and it does offer auto MDIX across all of its ports - which means that it will automatically detect whether a cross over cable is required/has been used incorrectly and change the configuration of its port to adjust if required - very nice !The only other thing to note on this device,is that it just requires what the Americans like to call a "wall wart" to function - i.e. a transformer - but this is only a wall one - there's no separate power brick that is required on some other models.

The first thing to note is that only 4 of the 8 ports support POE - the other 4 are just standard ethernet ports. It's important to realise this before purchasing. The PSU is a 48 volt item, so be very careful not to plug it into any other devices by mistake, of you may blow them up! I have the connector on mine very clearly labelled.Build is robust (metal case) and it works very well. I've had no problems in operation.I have 3 IP cameras connected to mine, and they work perfectly, even with IR active. My personal preference would be to have the PSU integrated into the router and just use a kettle lead to power it (making it easier to use a UPS)even if the case needed to be larger to accommodate it but this is the only real irritation. If you need a router with 4 POE ports, this should be near the top of your list.

This is a good sturdy little switch with low power consumption, helpful indicators, full metal case and compact PSU. It comes with stick-on rubber feet, or you can wall-mount it with the supplied screws. I opted to use a few strips of magnetic tape instead, and plant it on top of my server. The link and speed indicators are on the ports themselves, which is usually the most practical solution. D-Link boast that it can detect cable lengths and idle ports, and adjust the power consumption accordingly. They must be doing something right, since they can power eight ports with only 5V and 1A, according to the PSU rating. At those levels, it should have been possible to provide the option to power it from USB,but the lack of that is the only shortcoming I've found. I paid £19.99 with free carriage, and I'm very satisfied.

Replaced a broken TP-Link Poe switch. This hub looks good so far. It's PoE+ Gigabit for less than the price of most other brand PoE Gigabit switches (£42 at time of review).I also have various Netgear PoE switches, and this one seems to function no differently (aside from the PoE+ ability). It is currently powering two Reo-Link PoE cameras with no problemWill update longer term if reliability proves to be a problem.Update December 2019: I've been sufficiently impressed by this, that I've bought a second one. Form factor wise, it's a bit bigger than the Netgear equivalent. However given the price and extra feature of PoE+, I think this is certainly better value.Update March 2020: I bought a 3rd one of these, and all 3 are running without any problems.

I have had one of these in service 24/7 for 2 years now and needed more outlets so bought a second. These are lovely quality units, nice strong metal boxes, not nasty plastic, and quite heavy so that they still sit nicely when filled with cables. There is no installation to do - you just plug in the mains and put all your cables into the box. Everything then just talks to everything else - you don't even have to worry which is an input and which an output - every outlet does all functions. To connect the second switch to my network was just a question of linking one outlet on each box. Being Gigabit switches these are fast and I have never noticed the network slowing in any way - streamingseveral separate video streams at one time has never been a problem.

I've never had a wired setup in my life, and have always used WiFi, and I really wish I had done this a long time ago. Setting up was super easy. I bought a pack of 1 meter lan cables to go with it, and hooked up all my devices in my entertainment unit (xbox, PS4, PC) along with a longer cable for laptops etc. I ran a long cable through my floor to the router downstairs, and switched everything on, and it just all works! I used to get 10meg over my WiFi, but now I get the full 60meg speed. It's absolutely crazy. Pings have dropped down to next to nothing. I'm so happy I finally upgraded to wired. This was really easy to set up and it's made such a difference.Looks good too on my black unit.

Really happy with this switch.I couldn't be bothered to run extra cables to my living room so bought this instead. You really can't complain about a d link gigabit switch for under £20.I appreciated the fact it was made of metal- it feels really solid. There's only likely to be one item running though it at once, but it is handling high bitrate hd video and audio without problem - I've every confidence it'll perform at it's full spec without a hitch.I'm not sure why it's asking me to review the wifi signal capabilities - this device has nothing to do with wifi.Anyway. Highly recommended !

This is a good quailty piece of kit - it replaced one that id only had for 2 years that failed - kept dropping the internet every few minutes, drove me mad as my TV kept signing in and out of my Samsung account - a doddle to install, no experience required, plut the adaptor in to the switch and then into a wall socket - the switch is no ready for the ethernet cables - I plugged 4 into the 8 and then the internet from the router and bingo all good - no issues. If this helps, please hit the helpful button as it helps me know if my reviews are being read and that they are helpful

Promises 8 ports of super gigabit connectivity--✔4 of them have full PoE too!!!--✔Worked first time with no fuss? --✔Powers IP Cams over 90M of dodgy cat5 with several back to back joining blocks?--✔PERFECT.Some PoE devices have proprietary standards and get 'fussy' this seems totally by-the-book and has been fine with everything I have tested. Tough build, great device!Nice to buy a critical piece of kit and have it work so well that it fades from your 'worry list' entering a big project, and a great price to cap it all

Compact unmanaged switch in metal housing at a very moderate price. Does exactly as expected - plugged in four devices and a line to my router and away it went.My only reservation is that the power connector is on the opposite face to the five RJ45 connectors, which made placement just a shade awkward. Another reviewer has already pointed this out but I hadn't read the reviews carefully enough. Other similar switches I have have all connections on one face and the LEDs on the other which is normally a more convenient arrangement.

If you have a bt/sky box and an android box and possibly thinking of an amazon box too, also a home cinema reciever with a ethernet connection this is for you...We have ours connected directly to our BT hub with cat 6/7 Ethernet cable (ordered on amazon). Our BT tv box and blu ray/amazon netflix app player all work smoothly with no blocking or stuttering. Bought a second one for our sons bedroom, again wired straight to hub with cat 6/7 Ethernet cable, directly into smart tv, Xbox and gaming pc. This combo will make a difference.

Took a punt as one of the reviews suggesting one of these is working well with Access Points and IP Cameras. Wouldn't power up any of my access points or cameras, so assuming it's not 24V as mine require that. Nothing wrong with the product, it's just unfortunate if you search for "gigabit PoE 24v switch" this will (or would at the time) come up as a recommended item. Beware, if that's what you searched for, this may not be for you. Returned to Amazon and have tried to let them know it's coming up as a wrong search item.
