Connect the cables and that is it. No drama. With my old ~5m cat5 cables connecting my small server and 5 clients, the switch is able to sustain 70MB/sec transfer speed without using jumbo packets, and 80MB/sec transfer speed with 9K jumbo packets configured in both computers. That is ~7 times faster than with my old 100Mbit hub, and I was not expecting to get this high speed without cat5e/cat6 cables. With two client computers downloading simultaneously from two different computers, the switch does not seem to be the bottleneck: transfer speed at both clients is still the same 70MB/sec. The switch does not warm up at all even with full traffic in 6 ports. The only nasty surprise was that the power supply is integrated to UK-style wall plug, and there is no adapter included... Should have expected that though, buying from co.uk domain. Anyway this is the only English Amazon site in the EU, but you cannot plug this product directly to standard EU-area wall plug. So a word of advice for other EU-area buyers: you will need an adapter, or another supply. In my case, I happened to have a spare 5v 2amp power supply that works easily with this switch that requires 5v 1amp.

This is a good sturdy little switch with low power consumption, helpful indicators, full metal case and compact PSU. It comes with stick-on rubber feet, or you can wall-mount it with the supplied screws. I opted to use a few strips of magnetic tape instead, and plant it on top of my server. The link and speed indicators are on the ports themselves, which is usually the most practical solution. D-Link boast that it can detect cable lengths and idle ports, and adjust the power consumption accordingly. They must be doing something right, since they can power eight ports with only 5V and 1A, according to the PSU rating. At those levels, it should have been possible to provide the option to power it from USB,but the lack of that is the only shortcoming I've found. I paid £19.99 with free carriage, and I'm very satisfied.

Promises 8 ports of super gigabit connectivity--✔4 of them have full PoE too!!!--✔Worked first time with no fuss? --✔Powers IP Cams over 90M of dodgy cat5 with several back to back joining blocks?--✔PERFECT.Some PoE devices have proprietary standards and get 'fussy' this seems totally by-the-book and has been fine with everything I have tested. Tough build, great device!Nice to buy a critical piece of kit and have it work so well that it fades from your 'worry list' entering a big project, and a great price to cap it all

Compact unmanaged switch in metal housing at a very moderate price. Does exactly as expected - plugged in four devices and a line to my router and away it went.My only reservation is that the power connector is on the opposite face to the five RJ45 connectors, which made placement just a shade awkward. Another reviewer has already pointed this out but I hadn't read the reviews carefully enough. Other similar switches I have have all connections on one face and the LEDs on the other which is normally a more convenient arrangement.

Great value. Plug it in and your away.Very compact.Comes with self-adhesive rubber feet and screw mounting holes on the underside.Previous reviewer commented on power socket on opposite face to ethernet sockets making tidy cabling difficult. I see their point but the cable is pretty thin and flexible; it could run behind the switch when wall mounted.Planning to buy another once I've decided how to run the cable.(* Not tested against a statistically significant sample of idiots.)

Bought another one of these and it been live for over a year - Can honestly say that it is a reliable piece of kit and has not required a reboot since.Do not get confused as to why they say it can run at 2gbps - They should have said when on "full duplex" the switch can run two ways @ 1gbps i.e 1gbps incoming data and 1gbps outgoing data. Hope this makes sense

I have been using one of these for around a month now (it is not the one in the image show but an older model) and I have no complaints. It sits in my study along with my PC, NAS, and Rasperbury Pi and allows me to communicate between them quickly and efficiently. There is no lag time when streaming HD movies from the NAS and it need to set-up or configuration.

Fantastic bit of kit and works like a charm. Just plugged in my network cables and that was that gigabyte network.Works great, it's quiet, small and also has mounting holes. If I had to level a criticism at this it would be that the network cables are one side and the power is the other, meaning that it has cables coming out of both sides.

Seems like a good product but I have just received it. The only thing I would like if the ethernet connections where at the back. If this was to be rack mounted and then would be ideal so you have quick access but for me is just on a shelf in my TV Stand next to my Router. But overall a good strong product.

Excellent bit of kit. I love this - at last, a bit of IT kit that is just plug and play. What more can I say... plug it in, plug in your devices and it just works! Nothing else to buy, no configuration. All this for a bargain price. Oh, and it's solidly built as well.

It’s a good product. Abolsutey no issues with it and I’ve had this for years powering a couple of POE devices. I’m not a big D-Link fan, but I do like this. It’s small and compact, but I would suggest leaving plenty of room for it to stay as cool as possible.

Great device and extremely low power consumption, measured to be using just 1 watt of electricity in normal usage. Network throughput much faster than the Netgear device is replaces. Also supports wall mounting, which I've done using a couple of screws.

Perfect for home, I had this tucked behind my TV unit with all my devices connected to it. Very very simple to set up, it literally is plug and play. Have not noticed any issues at all, no slowing of internet. Must be the load balancing feature it has.

Brilliant value for money, one scary thing, but it’s not a safety matter, the colour of the LEDs are deep orange, and their random flicker and intensity in a dark room can convince your brain there’s a fire! There isn’t, but it’s a great flame effect!

simple, strong and robust - just gets on with the job. Sits behind my TV to provide network connectivity from my Virgin Media router to both my Sky and Tivo boxes, my blu-ray player, and the TV itself. great for the price.
