Problem: As my Smart Home develops, there is more demand on Ethernet Ports on the ISP's Router - it only has 4 ports. I have 5 devices, and will probably add more.I learned about this solution after trailing through pages of information about managed/unmanaged Ethernet Switches, Routers and lots of complicated instructions about how to convert a Router/Modem into Modem only. My head reeling with all this information I went shopping on Amazon for a solution. Most devices I looked at, I didn't really understand what they did exactly, and seemed to cost a fortune. Then I found this! Oh, Joy! Not only is this cheap, it does exactly what I need. I connected all my smart Home Hubs,my Printer and my PC and used the existing ethernet cable from the Modem/Router to connect to the TP-Link. Took 5 mins. I did have to spend the next 20 mins "reminding" my Smart Hubs to connect to my network, but that wasn't hard. Everything works great and I now have 3 spare Ports for future use. So if you have the same problem as I did then this is the solution you are looking for.

You will get the version 8 of this product which only has 1 led on the front for the power to the device which a big disappointment for me anyway as I have 2 of these products one was brought somewhere else a while ago which is a version 7 and is great with a power led and 1 to 8 leds on the front for which light up only when the relevant port is in use so you can see which port is using data (the version 6 is also same design as the 7 but haven’t got one so can’t review on product) also the version 7 has better quality looking ethernet ports with a nice silver finish where the version 8 is a grey tacky looking plastic. So In my opinion the performance is good but design has gone backwards I would return for refund but I can actually use this one elsewhere where the design isn’t a issue as long as it works it will do for now so if you are considering getting this go elsewhere and get a version 6 or 7 with the leds on the front. If they do a version 9 they should go back to the design of the 6 and 7 in my opinion

The only thing that has puzzled me is the 'desktop' in the description, which I can only think is either a reference what they think the intended use is or a sort of abstract reference to the (very neat, small) form, which happily sits on a flat surface.Nothing else has puzzled me though... It's taken me longer to write this review than it has to unpack, power-up (hub and separate power supply) and connect in my network / patch cables.Configuration required? NoneEase of setup? Couldn't have been easier, to be honest.I'm using this to provide additional (hard-wired) connections for TV, set-top boxes and PVR. With questionable Wi-Fi,having everything running through a network cable just made more sense; but rather than running multiple cables form the hub, this has allowed one 'tail' to go out to the living room, then split out connections from there. This is actually such a great value little product, I can see me looking to other installs where this will offer an equally neat installation.

With an ever growing range of smart home devices requiring direct connection to my router, I found that I outgrew the 4 ethernet sockets on my existing router.I wanted something that was small, light and easy to set up and this has delivered. It comes with instructions and power cord but you will need to buy an additional Ethernet cable in order to connect it to your own router.Connecting is as simple as plugging in the device with its power cord, connecting it to your router with an additional Ethernet cable and off you go.Two things of note: (i) instructions state that whatever you plug into your device should not have a cable of more than 100 metres and (ii)you will need to use one of the ports to connect the device to your own router). Thus far, I haven’t noticed any dip in speed of connection or lag. For the price (£9.98 on sale) and capability, this is an excellent buy and highly recommended.

Very pleased with this item as it works perfectly and is very easy to set up i.e. plug and play.I run wifi extenders through the house, ome of which is in the bedroom with various devices (smart TV, PS4 etc) all in the same place. My extender is plugged directly into the tv, the rest was on wifi. I purchased this to try to get all the devices on the wired connection to increase speed and be more stable. This worked perfectly. Now all my devices are 'wired' directly through this device - no loss of data speed, perfectly stable. Thrilled! You need to connect the box to mains via provided plug, then plug in a wifi cable from the wifi hub or extender into any one of the 5 network 'slots'on the back - you can then run up to 4 additional network cables by simply plugging them in.I would strongly advise it for any whom have a few wifi connected devices in the same place.Very pleased.

I don't think this gives off a wifi signal so haven't rated that but otherwise its easy to install and has transformed my TV & Xbox one internet speeds meaning i can download games quickly and watch glorious, fabulous, BOOOOOOTIFUL, 4K TELEVISION without any interuption. If i could only have one ethernet rerouter on a desert island, it would be this.If i could only take one to an underground bunker, it would be this.If i was called upon by the lord of time and space to jump into an intergalactic battle to save every single human named Neville from spontaneously combusting and could take but one ethernet rerouter on my journey IT WOULD BE THIS.Such is my admiration for this device that i would recommend it to both friends and family,in fact i may get drunk tonight and recommend it to every single person in the bar.

We just changed our broadband supplier over to Sky (August 2018) and the new router provided had only 2 ethernet ports compared with the 4 provided with the previous BT Homehub 3.0 router. The device was plugged into the mains using the supplied adapter, and port 5 connected with the Sky router. Sky HD box is plugged directly into the router, but the Sony TV, Hive and TP-LINK powerline adapter are plugged into 3 of the 4 available ethernet ports on the TP-LINK. Testing on my laptop using speedtest.net proved that both the hardwired and wireless speeds are the same, so there's no decrease in download/upload speeds or ping when using a combination of the TP-LINK ethernet hub and powerline adapter. This simple box was very easy to install and setup,5 minutes maximum out of the box. Would recommend!

The pictures on this page are of an earlier model with the same model number, version 7. The one I received is Version 8. The difference is that the activity light for each port is on the port at the rear, not on top of the case. That's not a problem unless you want the switch to be flashing away on your TV stand - so I am OK that it doesn't. I have only just received the product but it works so far. I use it to connect a number of devices with a mix of 100/1000Mbps connections. There is no fan so it is silent. Amazon won't allow me to post a link to the datasheet to version 8, so you will have to search for it yourself, or cut and paste static.tp-link.com/TL-SG1005D(UN) 8.0&TL-SG1008D(UN)8.0_datasheet.pdf

This is a great little product that does exactly what you want it to do.You don't need to worry what model router/modem/whatever you have, as long as you're connecting it with an ethernet cable, you'll have 4 additional ports right away! (1 is taken up by the connection to the router)There's no setup; configuration or anything of that sort needed. It is just plug-and-play.I bought this as a techie when my family needed an additional few ethernet ports; but you absolutely don't need any knowledge about tech to get this working, as long as you know how to plug it in. (note; you shouldn't need any setup/tech skills for any unmanaged desktop ethernet switch).Gets a recommendation from me forsure.

There's really not much at all to say about a switch: either it works or it doesn't, and this one works. It's a gigabit switch so unless you have a >1Gbps connection then it will handle whatever traffic you throw at it (up to 16Gbps as noted in the product description). The chassis is metal, there are 8 Ethernet ports at the front, and a 9v power port at the back. Plug it in, use one ethernet port to connect to your router (an Edgerouter 4 in my case) and you're good to go. Oh, and there's padded feet as well if you'd like to apply those. This switch can also be wall mounted if that's your thing. If you need an unamanged switch then look no further. This will do you just fine.

Purchased from Amazon at good price and simply plugged it in to gain extra switching option. This my second TP Link switch and this purchase was influenced by the flawless performance that I get from it (previous model). The unit is tiny and unobtrusive and looks good on a desktop., The leds are on when a connected device is active and off when not (and worth noting that they are not glaringly bright which I like). As a home user I have no need for a metal cased 'industrial' type unit so can't complain about the fact that this is plastic. If you register online TP add an extra year, giving a 3 year warranty so for just under £13 it seems a great purchase.

I purchased this with my fingers crossed as I know nothing about this sort of equipment as sky router only has two ethernet ports and I needed 6 for the household, I connected it to the router plugged all ethernet cables in switched on and within seconds it was all up and running perfectly without any problems, there is nothing to configure or set up, don’t forget to buy a couple of ethernet cables with the item so you can plug your router into the TP-Link and your away, I would recommend this item to anyone who needs more ports and knows nothing about this sort of thing, TP-Link great job, great price, thank you.

Does what it's supposed to do. I was messing around with a router, trying to do the same thing when I eventually had that face palm moment! Searched on Amazon, found it, ordered it and being Prime members, received it the next day. Installed and working in 5 mins!Problem solved. Seems to be very well made. A few people complaining about it not being made of metal but I don't plan on dragging it around on the road behind my car so heavy duty shiny plastic is fine by me!I connect my router to my Roku, AV amp, Xbox, PS3, Blu Ray player using this thing and it just works with no faffing. Need more stuff like this.

Bought this as I have just moved to sky fibre max and the Sky Q router only has 2 Ethernet ports. I need 5 with my household set up with Hive and several other things all requiring individual ports.I am not a computer whizz so bought this on a wing and a prayer.Connected it to the router then plugged the rest of my equipment into this. Plugged the power in switched on and my entire network was up and running immediately.I put this review up for anyone who knows little or nothing about networking who may be switching to a router with not enough Ethernet ports.I can highly recommend this unit

I recently moved into a new house and was delighted to find that a few of the rooms had ethernet ports. There was one port behind the TV but I wanted to plug 3 or 4 devices into this. I originally installed my old network hub, only to find out a top speed of 10mbs could be achieved. I purchased this gigabit switch and received it the next day. After unboxing the hub I had it up and running within minutes. It really is plug and play and was as simple as plugging in the cables. Use it on the Xbox one and achieve great pings. Definitely recommend this for anyone looking to upgrade.
