In comparison to an Islay Whiskey, the malt barley is lightly smoked, on a gauge of 13-14 phenols per million (indicator of smokiness within a whiskey), where as Islay whiskies can start at 30 and extend to 55 or 60 in the case of Laphraoig. The colour is a golden honey colour, on the nose is the peat and barley come through with a little sweetness. On the pallet is smooth, what you would expect from an Irish whiskey, and non overpowering tones of peat and smokiness, but then you feel a sudden burst of flavours coming through. In my own personal opinion, again its the sweetness, the peat, the barley, and you can even taste the water from the bogs to give you the sense of air and atmosphere of Connemara. The finish is excellent, it is long and consistent, sweet but mellow and provides you with a feeling of coming back for another sip.Overall, I like it, but as I am a huge admirer of Islay whiskey, the tastes and characteristics are not wild and smokey enough for me, but for the Irish market is a solid product which has gently exposed Irish whiskey drinkers to a peat based product.

Delicious stuff, mild to moderately peated, totally lacking the iodine/medicinal/phenol quality from the Scottish Islands and married expertly to that rich buttery sweetness that is a distinctive quality of the best Irish whiskeys. This is a blend of young (I'd guesstimate 5-6 years) and older (perhaps 10-12?) casks, to allow both the peat from the young spirit and rich depth from the old spirit to add their distinctive notes. I think the closest comparison would be Caol Ila, but the smoke is less immediate and the sweetness has a much more treacley character to it. It's simply a really tasty, satisfying and moreish dram from a distillery that deserves greater recognition. One of my favourites, and absolutely worth the asking price.

Not the cheapest whiskey on the market nor is it the most expensive. It is the first Irish whiskey I've tried and I really like it. Nice smooth slightly peaty aftertaste. This will now be my "go to" whiskey of choice and I will definitely be getting another bottle in for Christmas. Another good thing about this whiskey is that in the past I have bought bottles of scotch which were too tall to fit in my drinks cupboard but this one comes in a short dumpy bottle which fits in the cupboard nicely. Cheers!!

not having tried to many irish whiskies im not an expert, but i know what i like and this one is beautiful, slightly peated which is unusual for irish now and some lovely sweet notes, not to long on the finish but long enough in my opiniun,i have now over 40 plus different bottles including some very nice japanese but this is in there with the favourites, will always have a bottle in my collection,,cheers and good health.

Had to write a review as this malt is so lovely. I got it for hubby & me to share as a treat & it didn’t disappoint. Firstly, you can smell the quality; hints of burnt oak, vanilla & sherry. Then the taste is smooth & creamy, whilst having all the strong taste of the aromas. There is the smallest hint of chocolate too. Recommend for malt fans. Taste it straight before adding any mixers to get all the flavours in it.

Having tried to find an Irish peated whiskey for a long time, this finally met my need. The taste is perhaps not as peated as some Islay whiskies but is subtle and pleasant. I would certainly purchase again. It is a pity that there is not more of a selection of such (peated) Irish whiskeys. I bought on Amazon because it was cheaper than alternative sources but I am not so sure that this is the case now.

This isn't a bad whiskey, it's got a full mouth feel and is smooth but seems to lack the depth and character of Scotch peated whiskies like Laphroaig and Talisker.I'm not overly keen on peated stuff anyway, but tried this out of curiosity ,being the only peated Irish whiskey. I also got it at a discount so I couldn't refuse.

This whiskey is very well balanced! It has just the right amount of peat (not overpowered), while it still manages to be a bit sweet, and you can definitely taste some cherry. This is the very first time trying it, but I had to leave a review, the quality is that good!

Did not realise that Conemars did malt whiskey and only bought this as could not send Islay whisky from Scotland to Northern Ireland. It was a birthday present and was a great success. Comment was "Excellent malt whiskey"

This is not the first bottle of this whisky I am buying as I really like the taste - it is gentle and a little but smoky - perfect for these cold rainy evenings when you cuddle up near a fire place after long busy days.

An absolutely amazing whiskey that is difficult if not impossible to find through other means. While not something I would buy regularly due to the overall costs it is well worth it for those special occasions,

The best Irish whiskey....or any whiskey on the market for that matter. This whiskey has a beautiful peated taste that isn't overwhelming or overpowering and tastes that linger in the mouth for a while.

This is a superb Irish Whiskey and a real treat to stick. I usually have scotch for peaty, smoky flavours and Irish for smooth caramel taste Whiskey, but this does both, really, really well. A treat!

I was given this whiskey as a present. It didn't stay full for long! A soon as I discovered Amazon supplied it I bought it. Superbe. Follow my example and go and buy it.

Normally this whiskey is only available through specialist whiskey sellars, however found it on Amazon & they delivered before Xmas during all the bad weather.
