This Caselogic SLRA1 is a complete misfit for my Nikon 28-300mm (14.3 x 8 x 8cm without hood or 14.3 x 11 x 11cm with inverted hood). The case actually measures 15.5 x 9 x 9cm on the exterior, 13 x 7 x 7cm on the interior. You may be able to stretch another 0.5cm, but that's the limit. It fits a Carl Zeiss 35mm f2 ZF.2 with its metal hood measuring 11 x 7.5 x 7.5cm, a little on the longish side, but the diameter is perfect for the lens barrel which is not at all loose. I'm not sure about the "expandable" top as I can't find any.
