The liner on my beloved leather jacket has completely shredded and the insulation is starting to fall out. With repair estimates running north of $150, I was in the market for daily-wear coat that would stand up to a NY winter while not overheating me during a 40-minute commute. I work about 70/30 indoors/outdoors, but I'm in and out several times a day, and I don't like layering. I typically throw a heavy jackshirt over a t-shirt down to roughly 45 degrees, then start grabbing something heavier once temps get closer to freezing.First thing's first; I practically obsessed over this purchase. I tried on dozens of coats and even purchased and returned a few before trying this one. While I'm admittedly a tough fit (6'3", 56" chest, 38" arms, 38" waist), I usually fall somewhere in the XXLT and XXXLT range. The problem is most garments cut for "big guys" assume a 12" variation between chest and waist. So, an XXLT usually fits the midsection well but is too tight in the shoulders, and a XXXLT fits the shoulders but hangs on me like a garbage bag. To make matters worse, nearly everything I looked at online or in stores seemed to be missing a key feature I wanted. This coat seemed to have it all; a hood (for my bald head), a double zipper (very important for driving in a longer coat), zippered chest pockets (no phones slipping out when bending over or moving around), a non-removable liner (no sleeves pulling out every time I take it off), and a draw cord for my aforementioned fit issues. I ordered a 2XLT and hoped for the best.Well, it seems I found a hidden gem. What I didn't anticipate is how the "Full Swing" design provides extra material cleverly worked in to the back and shoulders. I literally cannot believe that I can cross my arms with zero binding, AND the waist/gut section is not excessively baggy. I pulled the bottom in a few inches with the draw cord and it's actually pretty damn stylish. This is also a typical Carhartt-quality garment, but the "duck" material is softer and not as thick as some other Carhartt products (like my well-worn hooded jacket). It seems tough enough for daily wear, but I don't intend to wear it for really tough, dirty work; it's way too nice. The removable hood is huge, easily pulls over a baseball cap, and cinches down well with a cord. There are two zippered/horizontal chest pockets; both are quite large and are tacked internally so items don't cause them to sag. The two hand warmer pockets have storm flaps with snaps on them and took a little getting used to. They are a bit shallow, especially compared to the chest pockets, but I can still get my entire (largish) hand inside. The brass zippers are large enough to manipulate with gloves, and operate smoothly without snagging on the sides. It warm, and being able to unzip the top AND bottom gives it the flexibility to vent it out when needed.Yeah, I'm really happy with it. I'm hoping the lighter brown stays clean... I'm actually thinking I might hit it with some fabric protector as I write this, but it's machine washable either way. Maybe I'm just a little giddy over finding a coat that fits as if it was made for me. I'll wear it this season and update this review if needed. One last note; I originally selected a slightly different style and ordered it via Amazon, but my Honey add-on suggested another Amazon seller other than the one initially provided. I went with them, saved a few bucks, got the same 2-day Prime shipping, AND got a no-nonsense, return-shipping-paid return. Well, as I was writing this review I noticed that the price of the coat dropped by $40.00. I called Amazon and was given a credit on my account. MAD props to Amazon and Honey for making the case for shopping from home even more compelling.

EDIT: One year later, still love this jacket. Couple design features can be improved, but overall it's a massive improvement over the regular cookie cutter CarharttsAfter getting this jacket, it is actually pretty interesting how many simple but innovative design features there are in it. Scroll to the bottom for the quick summary reviewThe sleeves instantly stuck out to me. The inside of the sleeve has the compression cuff like you would see on a regular jacket. But on the outside, the sleeve extends a bit farther. And, the outside cuff isn't perfectly rounded. The top of it seems to be a bit longer then twords the bottom of the wrist, I assume to keep a bit of breeze off the back of the hand while keeping wrist mobility.I love this feature.I always wear a watch too, so if it's not a blisteringly cold day, I will put the compression part before my watch, but the outer layer will still get to my wrist. The compression cuffs were definitely tight at first, but after a day or 2 of pulling them up my forearm, they stretched a bit to be comfortable. The hood is easily detachable with the snap buttons. It is roomy inside with a beanie, and has a draw string to snug it up.The outside is coated in a water resistant coating, but that is never permanent. I know you can use Greenland was to add more water resistance.POCKETS......I like my pockets. I don't know how women do it, I need pockets. Typical work jackets haveing one little inside pocket doesn't do it for me. There are 2 nice big zipper pockets on the outside, big enough I can fit my big chunky phone with a case in. One inner chest pocket with zipper on the left, and a smaller inner chest pocket on the right with Velcro. And of course, 2 outside waist height pockets for your handsIve been wearing this in about 32°f in a light t-shirt with a beanie and I've been fine, im sure it can go a bit lower. It's roomy enough for sweater underneath (or 2)..The "full swing" includes an arm pit and shoulder gusit to help you move without getting bound up. And because of this, the sleeves aren't super baggy, which is nice. But the chest and stomach is far too baggy for my taste. With all these features to allow better movement, it's annoying to see such a baggy front section. BUT, im on the more slender side of a blue collar worker at 5'9", about 170lbsOh, and I cut the Carhartt logos right off... I think they're ugly, and the jacket looks very nice without them.

I’m 5’11” 200 lbs ~20% body fat. When I’m in shape with 6 pack ab definition I’m at ~175. Silly sounding but this will give people a more accurate description of body. i wear large shirts and jackets usually and the large of this was too bulky for my likings so I ordered a Medium to try and kept the medium. It’s not perfect either but closer. Maybe if I weighed 230 then I would have filled the large with just a shirt on underneath. If you are same size or larger as me and plan to always wear some layers underneath I would get large. If you want to wear it with just a shirt underneath and occoationally a second thinner layer then medium fit better.I have fairly broad shoulders and the armpits are slightly tighter then I prefer in the Medium however. I wish the jacket was another 1-2” longer as well. I think a tall medium with normal length arms would be perfect but the tall also makes the arms 2” longer. The jacket itself is awesome is the only reason why I’m dealing with the slightly small portions in the smaller size then I normally wear. Jacket is flexible and extra design considerations in the elbows and shoulders to allow for more movement. -1 star because their sizing is expecting people to be fat. I would not wear this as my outer shell with thick layers underneath with the large size. It’s simply not the right jacket for that use so I’m not sure why Carhart added so much room for insulation other then assuming people are really fat. I’m by no means skinny and I could have almost put a basketball underneath the large. I would wear this in 40 degree weather with just a shirt underneath and be warm enough if I were just walking around. If I were standing around then I would want another layer with this on as well. Really active work that I’m breaking a sweat like digging and hauling etc I can wear this in 15 degrees. As others have said, hood is bigger then needed. Hope this helps someone.

Material and construction quality are top-notch. This is the first winter insulated jacket I've ever owned that did not restrict my movement at all. The extra panels really make extended motion a breeze, whether it be moving 60lb bags of salt or getting pipe down off an overhead rack. It is warm, but not overly stuffy, so you can wear it if it's not freezing out, but it will definitely keep you warm when it is very cold. I love the inner cuff's snug fit around my wrists, it keeps the warm air from escaping out the sleeves and the extended outer shell cuff protects your hands from the wind without having to put them in your pockets. Some may find that the extra material gets in the way,but for me they work perfectly, moving out of the way when I extend my arms. Plenty of pockets and storage, and the fit adjustment loops and sliders work perfectly. I could not be happier with this purchase, especially as I used Prime Wardrobe and got it on sale for $112.99. I have been acquiring more and more Carhartt products lately and I have yet to be disappointed. Only caveat with Carhartt is that even within the same kind of clothing, the sizing varies pretty widely. I ordered two different rain resistant sweatshirts in Large, and one fit perfectly while the other one was big enough for another half person to fit inside.

This jacket runs to size. If you want to layer, add about one size up per standard sweater/sweatshirt. The size chart here, refers to a range. Example: Large is from a 42 to a 44 inch bare chest... and so on. Tall sizing adds an additional 2 inches in length but, at the time of this review, tall sizes seem to be sold out. Darker, gray and/or salt and pepper haired men, like myself, the Shadow color looks the best. Blonde, sandy or red haired men, the Canyon Brown color looks the best. The most amazing feature of the Carhartt Men's Full Swing Cryder Jacket is the operational temperature range. It’s not too hot, up to around 50 degrees yet, keeps the wearer warm down to below freezing (depending on your tolerance/activity).I really love the jacket but, hated the way they attached the hood. My solution was to cut off the bottom flap (w/ the snaps) and sew the top flap of the hood attachment set-up down permanently. When you get the jacket, you’ll see exactly what I’m referring to. The seamstress at my local dry cleaner charged me $10 and she did it in 10 minutes. Take your time and find a good seamstress though; my seamstress is excellent so, bear that in mind (note: if you have bears in your mind, this is the correct jacket for you).

I just received the jacket and honestly I love it, lightweight but decent in the winter weather with a sweater underneath. The full swing motion is 1000% a great change from normal carhartts. As far as critiques in the design of the jacket they are little things that I can get over-1. Attach the damn hood, people that like snap on hoods are a minority just put it on or dont add it.2. Get rid of the buttons on the hand pockets and lower the pockets for more convenient hand access.3. I am 6'2'' 210, the medium fits perfectly with an athletic build, however, the front of the jacket is just barely long enough, it definitely needs an added inch or two to the length. I might add,I do not have a gut to make this worse but if I did it would be rough and Id probably have a frostbitten stomach.4. Dont be afraid to add a bit more thinsulate, the jacket is great with a sweater beneath but you buy a jacket to keep you warm, not to add another layer.Again, these were just little design flaws in my opinion and I hope this review helps anybody looking at the jacket. These are TRUE TO SIZE, not like normal carhartts. Go one size larger if you are doing layers for work.

I bought this for my husband who is now obsessed with this jacket due to its comfort. He hardly ever wears jackets because he says that it’s not worth it to walk to and from the car, as most jackets are too uncomfortable and restrict his movement too much to wear while riding in the car.The double zipper on this jacket allows him to sit comfortably while wearing the jacket, as he is able to pull the zipper up from the bottom to allow for his stomach stretching while sitting. The arms also allow for free movement and don’t make him feel trapped in the jacket. The detachable hood is a nice feature, too. He says the hood is a bit heavy and weighs the jacket down, so he leaves it off unless it’s raining. The jacket is nicely waterproof. It’s also very warm. We don’t get much cold weather, but it can occasionally dip below freezing and he says that he cannot feel the cold or wind on his torso at all while wearing this jacket. It’s the most expensive jacket I’ve ever bought, but it is obviously high quality and will be a favorite of my husband’s for years to come.

I just got this coat and have worn a few times...enough for this first review.I like the durability of Carhatt products.I first tried the Duck Jefferson...size medium and returned because the coat was way to wide at the base (I guess assuming most guys have a big belly to cover). I also felt arm movement was constricted too much.I then decided to try the medium size full swing cryder jacket since some reviewers commented that the waist area was more form fitting in the lower half of the coat. This coat fits me perfectly (arms maybe a tad too long for me). My chest size is 43-44 inches; my waist is 33-34 inches; my weight is 178 pounds and height is 5'8".Normally I wear a large since mediums are too tight in the chest (Carhartt an exception). It's about 32 degrees F out there this morning and the coat was quite comfortable taking a twenty minute walk with the dog. Unlike the Duck coat, this coat really does allow very comfortable arm motion in all directions.So...at this point I am happy with this purchase.

I needed a warm, comfortable and durable work coat. I work a lot outside, in north west PA, in the highway construction business. When this coat arrived at the house, in nothing bigger than a "large sized pizza box", I thought to myself, OH GOOD GRIEF! it felt more like a light weight jacket. I was considering of sending it back, but thought I would give it a shot. I was later very pleased in it's performance. A couple nights after having it, the temp dipped to 10 degrees with a strong wind. So I went for a walk outside and to my surprise, could NOT FEEL the wind through the coat. (ya, now I call it a COAT) In comparison, I put on my old Carhart and went back outside for about the same amount of time.I was very pleased with this new design. The material in the new coat is both lighter and more flexible the those of before. I am very pleased with this purchase. Only time will tell if it holds up as well as my past Carharts. So far, I rate this as a 9.5 out of 10.

I got this jacket to replace another Cryder (Large-Long brown; issued by employer), a jacket that I fell in love with. Over time, the work-issued one got its fair share of marks and distress. Still in great shape, but when I washed it, I messed up and put it in the dryer instead of letting it line dry. Needless to say, it shrunk a bit in height and width. It still fits, but not quite as loose as it was before. I got this one size up (XL-Long), which is considerably larger to the shrunken Large-Long. However, if I treat it the same and wash it when it needs it, I expect the dimensions to go down to the Large-Long (new, not shrinked).Build quality is typical Carhartt; great for everyday use and holds up very well.I would recommend to anyone looking for a great insulating, not too heavy, excellent mobility jacket that will hold up over time.

This jacket fits perfectly. My biggest problem with coats is in the shoulders. I have broad shoulders so in order to avoid tightness and binding in the shoulders and arms I have to get a size larger, which then means too much bulk in the chest. This jacket solves the problem. The shoulders and arms expand to allow for movement without binding. The arm length in the tall size is slightly longer than normal, which is what I prefer. The fabric is not the standard rough canvas normally found with Carhartt jackets. It is a softer, smoother fabric which is what I really love about this jacket. It says it's water repellant but I haven't been able to check that feature out yet.If you're a big person with broad shoulders then this jacket is worth checking out. Either way, this is a really nice jacket. Good job, Carhartt!

This jacket is very well designed. The hood fits well, adjusts perfectly, gives a slight visor-like covering, and minimizes blind spots in the peripheral vision. The claim that you can swing an ax or sledge hammer is true. I have never felt so much freedom of motion in a jacket. I can move my arms around as though I'm wearing a soft hooded sweatshirt. The front pockets are lined which keeps the hands warm. The sleeves are angled so your hands are covered even when you put them in the pockets. The end of the sleeves are also lined with...I'm not sure how to describe it, but as you slide your hand out of the sleeve, your wrist is enclosed by a soft, stretchy cuff that you can't see in the picture. The jacket feels very solid but it is not took thick nor heavy. I am very happy with this purchase.

I'm a 5' 10", 165 lbs, broad shoulder male. I ordered a medium and the fit is slightly loose, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it baggy. It will keep me warm down to 30 degrees Fahrenheit with mild wind. As a huge plus, the bottom has bungie cords that allow you to stop the wind from sneaking in and stealing your body heat. With my body and a medium jacket, there's enough room to comfortabley fit a pretty thick sweatshirt underneath. This, combined with the wind resistance of the fabric and the draw cords, will make a good coat for Northern winter. My main pro with this vs traditional Carhartt jackets is the flexible material. You don't need to spend months breaking in a thick, bulky jacket while it rubs away your neck. If this was lost I'd buy it again at full retain in a heartbeat.

I will add pictures and a "in use" update after my trip Wisconsin where it will be raining and snowing. First impressions. I'm 6'2 235 pounds of muslce... or a dad bod, who knows. I ordered a large. I have a longer torso than most but average to shorter arms for my height. It is maybe a tad long in the sleeves but not noticeable or bothersome. I would like it to be about a inch longer in the body BUT it is a work jacket. Not supposed to go to low. That wont affect... or is it effect, damn public schools... my review of it. It has been warm enough for me in 40 degree weather so far. I'm in Arizona so cold to me may be beach weather to you. I will update after using it in WI in colder wet, snowy weather.

I got this for Christmas, I am a big guy: 6’2, 340 lbs and this coat fits me like it was made for me. It is very comfortable and warm. True to the Carhartt brand, built very well and is very sturdy which is important for big guys like me. The increased motion from the new design is ingenious and helps the coat feel much less bulky than traditional carhartt coats. Highly recommend this coat.Pros:Warm, sturdy, comfortableFits wellAdditional movement is a great additionGood colorGreat priceCons:The hood hangs over my head a little too far, but is detachable so it’s not a big issueThe coat is short, needed a big and tall version so that the coat would be long enough to just cover my belt.
