I don't drink whiskey because I'm not over forty years old, nor do I have a magnificent beard (which, as we all know, are the key attributes for a whiskey drinker to possess). My dad, however, does fulfil one of these requirements, and so he does drink whiskey. This is his favourite one.For as long as I can remember (which is only up to a few years ago, as my tipple of choice is vodka), he has asked for a bottle of this for Christmas, and every Christmas, I try my best to oblige. He says he loves it because it's matured in sherry casks, which gives it a great, unique taste, and, because he grew up in Northern Ireland (where Bushmills originates), he says it reminds him of home.I think he really loves it because it's really expensive, and nigh-on impossible to find in conventional shops, and he particularly enjoys the taste of a good bottle of Black Bush knowing the cost and trouble that went into acquiring a bottle. Well joke's on you, Dad! I got it off Amazon on a lightning deal while I was sat in the office and supposed to be working!I don't particularly mind getting him a bottle every year, though: the alcohol content means that the inevitable Christmas Day argument takes on a more amusing slant, as he becomes an irrational and gibbering wreck, and then forgets what he was even complaining about. He was probably ranting about the shame he feels in having a son that can't have more than four drinks without tactically vomiting. I blame the fact that I'm half-English, and like a full-English person, can't handle my drinks very well at all. Oh, well... Here's to the whiskey known affectionately in our house as Daddy's Happiness Juice!

I'll start by saying that I'm not a massive whisky drinker. I've not tried a huge number of different whiskies - although I have tried a few - and I certainly know what I don't like. I'm not a fan of peaty whiskies like Talisker. I also know what I do like. I like Penderyn, the welsh whisky. I like Bushmills. It seems that Irish whiskey is smoother and more subtle than Scotch Whisky - at least to my palate. I'm not a fan of Jameson's strangely enough though. I've tried several of the Bushmills whiskeys - white label, black bush, 10 year old malt, 16 year old malt & 400 year anniversary - of all of these, black bush is my favourite. In comparison, white label tastes a little thin - nice until you've tried the other variants. The malts are lovely, but black bush is, in my mind at least, uniquely satisfying. It has a smoothness and mellowness that allows for drinking neat. The bouquet is wonderful - almost brandy like. Regardless of all that, this is my favourite whiskey by a long way - the litre bottles represent excellent value (particularly when the price drops below £25!). I cannot recommend this enough!

I used to drink Scotch when I was a student - sometimes with water, often without. But when I went to college (TCD Dublin) I came across Irish whiskey, which one bought as a 'chaser' with one's pint of Guinness. So now, much much older, and in search of something to enjoy now I am retired, I selected this. And it is very, very smooth - but also (if taken neat) quite a shock to the system. So, even if it is not de rigeur, and is looked down upon by those who know, I take it with some water.Anyway, it is a great drink. The only complaint I have is nothing to do with the quality of the whiskey, but the packaging. The bottle was rattling about in the box with a bit of brown paper at the top and the bottom and nowhere near as secure a it should have been.Well, it didn't break in transit; I am surprised it got here in one piece. If you want to try an Irish whiskey, then you can't go far wrong woth this one.Edit - bought another bottle. Packing - sturdy box but just a bit of brown paper at top - bottle rattling about. Apart from the poor packing the whiskey itself is excellent

Feck! A@r#! .. Empty Already :( The Spirit of Father Jack must have called upon me.. the scoundrel, I could have sworn it was half full last night ;)Nice Irish whiskey.. very smooth going down the hatch, a darker hue than regular Bushmills. Has a 'winey' fruity nose to it.. must be them 'sherry casks, then!' .. more of a straight sipping whiskey to appreciate the flavours, no ice needed.. take it at room temp'I likes Irish coffee with a Passion too.. with double shot of espresso & cream.. This too good & far too subtle & mellow for that, lost in the coffee.. The Stronger & 'Raw/Harsher' flavour Irish is better for that.. Reg' Bushmills etc. .. I like to feel & taste the Kick in the coffee.Very Nice Sipper though..Just keep that Father Jack Hackett away from it though, I'll have to buy another bottle now ?

Amazing drop of Irish Whiskey. Started drinking this a few years back when parents bought back a duty free bottle. Even prefer this to the 10 year old malt version. To be honest probably prefer over most Scotch that I have tried. Seems there are a lot of peope that have discovered Irish Whiskey & actually prefer it to Scotch. Like to drink this straight from the bottle with no mixers-really warming and smooth.UPDATE: We were burgled recently. The low life got away with my wallet and guess what. They took my Litre bottle of Bushmills Black Bush which was sitting unopened on my sideboard. Low life's never knew what a great whiskey they were nicking. I bet they do now. Hope it gave them the worst hangover.Had to order another replacement bottle luckily Amazon had it at a great price.

This is a very good whiskey for the price. It is smooth, very sweet and sherried; I enjoy sherried Speysides and find this a nice change that suits my taste. In my early whisky days Black Bush was my 'go to' drink - my eyes would shine if I saw it behind the bar. However, I suspect some lovers of peated whisky will find this cloying.I came soooo close to giving it 5 stars. However, it lacks some of the complexity of some single malts of a similar price point (Highland Park 12, for instance, if you hunt for a good price).

Bought for a friend of mine from Venezuela. She drinks whiskey all the time so this was a must (being from N. Ireland) I was very interested to see what she thought of this one. I don't drink now and have never drunk whiskey but I know this to be the choice of my sister and her friends and my father in laws tipple at Christmas. She said it was Absolutely divine. Super smooth and so easy to drink. The Champagne of whiskies......almost made me want to start drinking again myself!!lol

I had a good deal on this 1Lt bottle. I was a bit hesitant at first as I am generally a single malt drinker, but I am glad I took the gamble. I was expecting something a little on the harsh and on the raspy side, but I was very pleasantly surprised. This was soft on the palette and had a rounded slightly fruity taste. No burning of the throat or stinging of the pharynx. So glad I bought this and definitely one I would be happy to serve, give as a gift or just keep all to myself!

This is the best whiskey I have tasted in a while.. I hesitated to buy even on a deal as never tried before & previous experience with Irish whiskeys have been a little rough round the edges... however after still being curious I picked this up (regular 75cl) on offer in Tesco.. Need not have worried as this is delicious. So smooth, very little burn & a lovely sweet and slightly charred flavour ? Will definitely be buying again when in a Whiskey mood

Nice stuff indeed. Smooth with a sweetish caramel hint. I always keep a bottle in the cabinet for when we want a good solid well rounded whiskey. As a blended whiskey it is not as extreme in character as single male can be, but it is far from bland. More expensive and characterful whiskeys are great when you want to celebrate or to really savour. This is the kind of whiskey you have around to kick back and chill any day for no particular reason.

Black Book is ages in sherry casks and you can definitely tell. There are major notes of wine, and oak, a fine spicy accent, all bolstered malty sweetness and a fairly dry finish. This is a pleasing glass of drink at an affordable price worthy of drinking on its own. It is also an affordableway to see if sherry finished whiskey is your thing before you invest in an expensive single malt that's been given the sherry treatment.

I normally drink Scotch, but I NEVER object to Bushmills, and especially Black Bush.I;ve had many an Irish whisky, bourbon, rye, you name it...but for potability, this beats almost everything. And I mean everything, despite cost.My only problem with it is I can drink a bottle, and still want more(no,not an alcoholic!I just love the stuff!)So that's the only drawback. It's TOO nice.Definitely not for sharing!

Taste is subjective but it is the only whiskey my Holywood born mother will drink. She swears by it to help with cold, sore throats and insomnia!?It’s a smooth and warming experience, definitely worth trying. If you ever find yourself on the North coast, search out the Bushmills distillery, well worth a visit!Check out the Giant’s Causeway too, preferably before taste testing the whiskey!

I am not an expert, and a work colleague got me into Bushmills a couple of years ago. Prior to this I normally just bought "the cheap stuff", but I found spending an extra £5 on Bushmills to be worth the extra cost. This slightly more expensive version is another step up and well worth the extra £5.I will be buying again...and now probably a lot sooner than I normally would!!....cheers

It may be that I'm just not an Irish whiskey person, but each time I've tried this I could only think "it's not scotch, and I'd rather it was". I can however say it's good, not as good as green spot (in my opinion) but definitely good considering the price. I would certainly recommend it to someone who just wants to try Irish whiskey because of the price and quality you get for the price.
