I have been using Braun Thermoscan in-ear thermometers for the last 10 years and I still have my original model, but it is starting to get tired and erratic. This model is much smaller and lighter than the original, indeed smaller than most in-ear thermometers I have seen and small enough that you could happily pack it in the side pocket of a sponge bag for holidays with your family if you wanted to reassurance of being able to check if your child is unwell. The lens covers are interchangeable with my original model, which is great news as I have a half used box and they are great for ensuring that you don't contaminate anyone with anything from another person's ear,but it also keeps the mirror lens on the top of the thermometer clean. Unlike some other models by other companies, the lens caps are really easy to put on and take off and they stay on securely. This model has the reading on the side, which is okay, but I personally prefer it on the back of the thermometer, so that you can always see the screen as you are taking the temperature, so that you can ensure that you aren't getting an error reading. There are different beeps given for different ranges of temperature. 1 longer beep if you are in the normal range, two beeps for a raised temperature and 4 beeps for a high temperature. I currently have a raised temperature of 38.0 which gave me two beeps. My children both had single beeps and their temperatures were 36.4 and 36.5 respectively. I haven't yet heard the four beeps, but actually the digital reading is the measure by which I would base the reading, rather than the number of beeps. I like other models, where you get a different colour reading rather than different beeps, as there is nothing worse than adding additional noise with a poorly child - subtle background colours to the readings works well without disturbing anyone. The readings are quick and accurate and the lid to clip on to protect the measurement end of the thermometer - you are good to go. It's not the fanciest model, but I would choose a basic Braun thermometer over most other brands any day.I love the compact size and the

I have used and indeed own a lot of digital thermometers for my work and the go-to brand is always Braun for very good reason. This was usable straight out of the box, is intuitive and simple with thankfully only one button and a auto shut off. This can be used from birth and I liked the fact that it is much much lighter than other models - meaninv it is portable so if you're a health professional it's easy to port to visiting patients and it's great to throw into a suitcase if you want to take it away. The set comes with 21 disposable tips one already pre-loaded (and yes it is ok to use the same one on the same person as long as they don't have an ear infection which might transfer to the unaffected side!).This is a slimmed down version of the traditional Braun in ear thermometers you might see at your doctors surgery and it does the job well. Easy to change from Celcius to Fahrenheit (just hold down the button when it is off)When you have achieved a reading you get an acknowledging beep and a couple of beeps If the temperature is too high for whatever reason.Changing the battery involved putting a tiny point eg cocktail stick into a hole above the battery section -- again extremely well thought out to prevent kids and babies opening it and swallowing batteries (these are button batteries CR2032) which can be fatal. The only tiny improvement would have been backlighting the display so that it's easier to read in the dark but that would have meant needing a heavier battery thus increasing the unit size. Well done Braun.

We have an older design of this model and it feels like this is a cheaper but possibly improved version. I will attempt to explain.1) The older one came in a case which stored and kind of dispensed the covers. This new one doesn't, so you have to find a safe clean place to store the ear covers.2) The older one had a light on it that you could see when it was in the ear, it changed to green when a successful reading had taken place. The new one seems to have replaced that with a less easy to identify picture of an ear on the LCD3) The older one seemed to be able to detect the ear better, or that may be me using this new one wrong. This new one is as accurate and works as well in measurement but it feels a bit more faffy - with the LCD being on the side and lacking the green LED indicator,it also feels less robust and lighter. That said, I would always recommend getting a braun one, as the others we tried in the past were wildly inaccurate and frankly in some cases just didn't work properly at all - so I'd take a this braun one over any other brand anyway, but if you can get one like our old one with the case and LED and LCD display on the back, well, go with that instead. I'm at this point not sure whether our old one is discontinued or not, having a look through the catalogue on amazon reveals a lot of different models at about the same price! Choose carefully. Definitely get one with storage for the ear covers if you can.

I’m always sceptical about these types of thermometers as they always seem to not work and with results in 1 second I was quite intrigued. But I need not have been, this ear thermometer does exactly what it says, gives you a reading in 1 second. As I’m sure anyone purchasing this will have a baby/toddler or child who when is poorly becomes very restless and agitated, this thermometer is great as it’s easy to put in your child’s ear whilst you can soothe them on your chest or whilst cuddling/cradling then, it literally takes 1 second to get the temperature which is what all is parents need when we have a poorly child. The thermometer also has a clever function where it will beep a specific amount of times to let you know if the temperature is normal, elevated or high. So unlike other thermometers that beep and you have to look at the temperature, this shows the temperature and beeps the specified amount of times to make you aware of how low/high it is which is a great feature. The thermometer comes with disposable cases so you can be assured that the casing can be replaced and disposed each time. The thermometer also comes with 21 disposable cases to get you started and more can be obtained online. Really pleased with the product and it came in handy with a poorly boy this weekend but this item really reassured me and was very accurate. I feel I’ve found my go to thermometer. Very simple to use, the battery is pre-installed and there is a disposable cone already fitted underneath the protective shield.I bought the first of these devices for the NHS,Instructions are meagre but accurate, except no guide to positioning, why? These are hard to self use, the operator needs to be able to see the ear canal and the measuring snout should be aimed down the canal towards the ear drum. Most first timers point it at the cartilage or the meatus (skin area) in the ear, giving a false reading, the tip is a mirrored lens, so it should never be pressed up against skin or an inaccurate or failed reading will occur.Tympanic thermistors also do not function if the ear is full of wax!False reading, personally we do the best of three readings, you can reapply the disposable shield, if it's clean. One problem I had with Nurses (!) and still do is that they sometimes put the snout into the ear without a cover. It won't work of course, there's a trigger for the cover; but the lens becomes clogged with wax and doesn't work correctly afterwards. Therefore always check the mirrored lens is shiny and clear of wax. Clean with distilled water with a q-tip, but don't press on the fragile lens.Used correctly these devices are fast and very accurate, I like the Braun unit and have used one for 12 years.Battery is a standard lithium coin cell CR 2032, Tesco sell them as do Maplin, lasts about 18 months.

This is an excellent thermometer, just like the ones that doctors and nurses use. It's so much better than the old-fashioned under-the-tongue thermometer which I had in the bathroom cupboard -- this one works instantly and gives a temperature reading in one second. It's so much better than my other one, which you had to keep under your tongue for about a minute while it slowly took your temperature. This Braun thermometer works by measuring the infrared temperature in the eardrum and surrounding tissue, which gives an accurate reading as apparently "the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control centre in the brain".The exact temperature is clearly displayed, and it gives one beep for a normal temperature, two beeps for raised, and four beeps for a really high temperature. The thermometer comes with a pack of 21 disposable plastic covers to keep the tip sterile and clean, as well as a protective cover for when it's not in use. It also remembers the last reading you took, which is handy if you're monitoring someone's temperature over time. It's really straightforward to use, with just one button to turn it on, and it automatically turns itself off. The temperature reading can be changed between Celcius and Fahrenheit by holding the button down. After using this type of thermometer, I'd never go back to the old-fashioned sort as this one is so quick and easy to use.

This is a well thought out, excellently engineered product. The Thermoscan uses infra-red technology to measure your temperature. The sensor is placed into the ear and the infra red lens provides a very accurate reading in less than a second or two. The temperature reading can be read off the clear and bright LCD - but thoughtfully, Braun have also provided an audio indicator too - one beep - normal temperature, two beeps repeated = slightly raised temperature, three beeps repeated = high temperature. This is a very effective andd quick indication. The Braun Thermoscan comes with a battery installed - its a 2032 type and I don't know how long it will last with normal use - along with 10 lens covers (for hygiene and protection of the infra red sensor) and a clear plastic cover that clips over sensor and lens for additional protection when the Thermoscan is stored. A case is not provided but probably isn't required -this unit is solid and doesn't feel fragile or cheap in any way. I would have liked a case though.. Default temperature display is degrees Celsius but it can be changed to Fahrenheit if preferred. This is an excellent thermometer, it's easy to use and quick too - all in all an excellent product which feels like it will provide good service for a long time. Using this thermometer couldn't be easier - it has one button, and takes just one second. The display is clear enough to read in decent light and for visually impaired people it's easy to check their own temperature as it bleeps to indicate if your temperature is normal, elevated, or very high.As you only have to gently pop it in your ear, it's much safer than inserting anything in someone's mouth. It uses special hygienic covers, so you can ensure nothing is transmitted between people, which also means you can use it on a pet if necessary (better than the normal place for them, too!).It does recommend using one cover every time, and the box comes with hygiene 20 covers inside.Buying them in bulk gives you the best deal, but you need to bank on paying 6-10p each, so there is a running cost associated with this verses a normal digital thermometer.Just on ease of use, convenience and safety, it's hands-down the best way to take a temperature. The only reason I've given it 4 stars and not five is the purchase price is relatively high, and the ongoing costs which could mount up if you need to use it a lot.Kids will hate it because they won't be able to dip the thermometer in your tea while your not looking to get a day off school :-)

I got this thermoscan 3 as I needed a new thermo it is nice and also easy to use and it comes with most things you could want with a thermo. It comes with disposable hygienic lens filters these are so the lens doesn't get dirty from peoples ear wax, you get 24 in a pack and you put a different one on ever time you have used it which I think is a very good idea also comes with a battery so you don't need to buy one separate and you get a lid too put over the lens too to stop it from germs aswell. I used this on my child and it was so quick you get one bleep if your temperature is normal or 2 beeps if it's slightly high and 4 beeps if its way to high and all you have to do is press the buttononce on the side but I have notice that some times it take different readings from each ear so it's not accurate but they are similar readings so they ain't miles off each other so I think it still good to use,Also the thermo isn't massive so if you Need to keep an eye on your kids or your self when your out and about it will fit nice in a bag too but the only thing with this thermo is it doesn't come with a case to put everything in which I think would have been good for the product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The Braun Thermoscan is a handy, light weight thermometer, which is just the right size to fit in a nappy or travel bag.The box contains the thermometer and cap (for protection), lens filters and instruction book. The instructions are easy to follow, and the device simple to use. Attach a filter on the end, pop it into your child's ear and press the button. It'll bleep and how many times it does so depends on your child's temperature. The temperature pops up on the LCD screen on the side, and you get a clear and accurate reading.I especially like the fact that a filter goes on the end of the thermometer to help ensure the thermometer stays clean, and how quick a reading you get. This thermometer recently helped us deal with our daughter's temperature, and the whole process was quick and hassle free. It's light, and also a nice compact size meaning that you can pop it in the nappy bag, or travel bag if you're going away on holiday. The price might put some people off, and you can certainly get cheaper thermometers. However, this comes from a well-known maker, and Braun have produced a good, sturdy piece of equipment that gives accurate readings each time. Overall, I was pleased with this product.

This thermometer appears to be a slightly revamped version of one that has served me well for several years. The one new feature is that it beeps twice or three times to indicate an elevated temperature. I suppose this might sometimes be helpful in a darkened room, or if you aren't quite sure what the normal ranges are, but personally I would always look at the displayed value anyway, so find this is limited use. That said, this is nevertheless an excellent thermometer. Taking a series of readings in close succession, readings appear to be within +/- 0.1 degrees, so long as the probe is correctly aligned. As with all infrared ear thermometers, it is important for the tip to have a clear view of the ear drum,so it doesn't work so well on ears that are full of wax, or if not aligned straight (it's worth gently tugging up and back on the outside of the ear, to straighten the ear canal). There are more expensive models, but I find this to be perfectly adequate for identifying and monitoring fever (or, more often, for telling my children that there's nothing very wrong with them!). It's much the easiest, safest and most reliable way of taking a temperature.

This is a very reliable and accurate thermometer. I've had this 10 months and buying another one for family as the fancy one with forehead scanners just don't work properly. They're too much messing about with buttons and clip ons. This one is switched on ready to go and is consistent and accurate.Someone said in a previous review that the reading is not the same in each ear - well it won't be cos or bodies are not machines in that sense. We're organic, so will vary slightly over different sides of our body. The reading may be a point of a degree out each side. But to be honest, common sense is our most useful tool. If you are hot and shivering - you're not well! The temperature reading helps to confirm what we see and feel, useful if you are not sure cos you're not experienced. If you're not sure then best thing to do is to get free medical advice from the NHS.A thermometer is not anything more than a tool to confirm what you see and feel. So the best tools are the basic simple ones that give good basic information. This does the job well.

Came in very handy when my little one was ill yesterday and the high temperature recorded necessitated a trip to the GP. I have another Braun in ear thermometer and have been so impressed that I got this one to carry out and about with us. Braun is a trusted brand and I have found them very reliable when it come to thermometers. The GP's own Braun in ear thermometer was in line with the readings on ours. This thermometer gives audio warnings for temperatures whereas my other is visual (green/red background on screen). Both are effective in helping you know when to worry and when everything's ok.Am so glad I had this as little one was able to see regular GP and not out of hours service as tempwas so high they agreed to see us asap even though surgery was on point of closure for weekend - all due to me being able to give a temp reading from an in ear thermometer maxe by a trusted brand that the GP uses themselves. Thank you Braun and thanks to our kind NHS GP who stayed on later on a Friday evening to help us out!

I've used loads of Braun ear thermometers, largely because they are effective and efficient and this model is no exception. You can use it with no set-up - it even arrives with a plastic tip already in place. The set comes with 21 other plastic tips which will last a while, but replacements are not expensive. This is better than other models as it measures temperature much quicker, giving a younger person less time to react negatively to a probe being stuck in their ear. The thermometer also does a long beep to tell you the temperature is normal, two quick beeps to tell you their is a mild temp, and three quick beeps to tell you their is a high temp. This means you can use it in the dark, although you can always go to a lighter room to read the temp. Finally, this is the most accurate thermometer I've ever had and almost always gives the same reading from each ear; the only time this didn't happen was when I had an ear infection in one ear and it was warmer.Overall, an amazing product at a good price.

I really like the thermometer and found it easy to use. I really like that it comes with a small box of hygiene protectors and they are easily removed and replaced. You are able to get a very accurate reading due to the figures showing up on a small screen, it also has 3 different types of beeps which are all dependant on what temperature reading you get, this is a great indication of whether you have a temperature or not before you look at the number recorded. One handy feature with this thermometer is when turning it on it shows the last recorded temperature on the screen, perfect for keeping an eye on increasing or decreasing temperatures, although it doesn't have a feature to indicate temperatures lower than the normal temperature.I would have liked it to have an off button instead of waiting 60 seconds for it to automatically switch off just to prevent more battery usage. Overall I am very impressed with the thermoscan 3. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
