Sometimes gadgets just work and do what you need them to without any fuss or delay and this Thermoscan 7 Ear Thermometer from Braun is one of those. Most of us have seen temperatures taken this way by doctors or nurses so the principle is familiar and you just have to familiarise yourself with the actual device. It's a simple looking device with a large backlit LCD display which is very clear and the backlight changes colour after you've taken the temperature to indicate if it's normal, too high or too low. You switch on with the power button, it takes a few seconds to get ready, and then set the age group of your patient using the dedicated button. The Thermoscan 7 takes account of the fact that babies are considered fevered at lower temperatures than adults and so you can choose between three age-groups - 0-3 months, 3-36 months or 36 months and above. Then you insert the tip into the patient's ear and tap the temperature button and after a couple of seconds the device gives a quiet bleep and displays the temperature. You can store each reading in the device's memory by tapping the Memory button and then review them later. The only minor inconvenience, although there's good reason for it, is having to make sure there's a clean Thermoscan cap on the tip of the device. These are disposable hygiene covers meant to prevent any transfer of infection from one person (or even ear) to another. You get a pack of 21 caps in the box and they all stow neatly inside the snap-on cover for the thermometer, so they're always handy. The thermometer won't take a temperature without one fitted so you have to always keep some to hand, although they'd probably be reusable if you washed them carefully. They're actually a good idea with a practical purpose but it's also true that manufacturers are increasingly designing products that rely on some kind of disposable extra that you have to keep buying from them.Despite that slight annoyance it's a great little device that seems to be reliable and accurate and works the way you'd hope. It's not the cheapest item but if you care for an infirm or elderly relative or have kids then it's one of those essentials that could be a real lifesaver.

I gave this to a colleague as his wife had just given birth to their first child and naturally needed extra electronic calming help...which this does give. When I was a child - considerably longer ago than I care to think about - my parents belonged to that generation which were more than happy to discover that you were still alive when they got back from the pub. However, today things have moved on a bit and generally speaking for most people a bit more interest is required. Will you need this? Almost certainly not. Will you use it? Yep. If you are a new parent having a quick means to check up on your young child's health - especially when babies and unable to communicate much - gives you adegree of reassurance and of course maybe a heads up if you need to see the doctor.Even us oldies aren't immune to this. When my wife and I decided to look after our twin grandchildren who were only a few months old we ended up taking one to hospital in a panic...So, I know that checking is important. And this does it. With little fuss you can get the temperature of your child and best of all there is a traffic light system of green, amber and red so you can get a proper panic on if needed.Quality is excellent and it has easy change hygene tips. It also seems very accurate so no worries there. Now, before you rush out and buy - have a Google at the prices. I've just had a quick look and there is quite a difference in price between sites of up to twenty quid.Overall an excellent bit of kit that any parent of a young child should have in stock.

I love this thermometer for many reasons. I already have a touch less one which you place near the forehead but it's slower then this and makes loud beeps. This new one as it goes in the ear is much quicker, and it's not loud either. I realized once I knew it came with the disposable probe covers that it might be possible to use it for animals, and tried it on my skittish cat who was absolutely fine with it!This has a positive click mechanism which ejects used cover and tells you a new one is needed by means of the display and it won't let you use it without one. This means you need to ensure you keep one on it and don't run out of the last one.I'm sure if it was just used by one person you could reuse it by wiping the cover with an antibacterial wipe if you wanted to save on plastic or costs. They are about a fiver for 40 pack at time of writing but could go back to usual price of about twice that. They are precisely made and protect the probe (called lens by the company).I took my temperature a few times and it was repeatable and what I would have expected. This is an extremely easy to use and hygienic temperature monitoring device which could also be used by veterinary practices as so quick it is tolerated by even skittish animals. (I think we all don't want to go back to the days of a thermometer up the bottom!).It has a case which the probe cover box and thermometer go in to keep them all together for when needed.

I’m very happy with this thermometer. I have an original Thermoscan thermometer (now 22 years old!) and even though it still works and is accurate I decided it was time for an upgrade. The main features that encouraged me to do this are the backlight and the fact that the shape of the tip has been modified to make it easier to achieve the position needed for an accurate reading. With my old model it can be rather challenging at times to get the positioning correct and there is a need to tug on the ear to help improve it. It is much more easier to achieve this with this new model where you can just insert the tip without the needed tugging to gain the correct position.I know many people havecomplained about the thermometer giving inaccurate readings but it is essential you follow the user guide to understand the correct position needed. Despite the cost involved I’m pleased I chose to upgrade partly because the backlight will make my life easier but also because over the last 22 years the design and functioning has improved even though they are carrying out the same task. The quality of the item speaks for itself considering my old one is 22 years old and functioning and looking at it you’d never guess its age. This justified the relatively high cost to me.

Needed a high quality in ear thermometer because of the Covid crisis and my wife is severely vulnerable with advanced MSWe’ve been shielded for three months already and happy to continue even if it takes years !!But I need to have an accurate way of checking our temperatures to ensure we are still symptom free.Cheap under tongue thermometers are simply useless and give wildly inaccurate readings ....I searched hard for one of these quality Braun items because everywhere is sold out... there are a few on eBay where unscrupulous people are selling for triple the valueThis item I bought was very overpriced im sorry to say... Same unit in Argos was £44 but out of stock anywhere...so I had to bite the bullet and pay £80 for this one even though it is an amazon warehouse damaged box return item ....Needs mustIt’s doing its job very well, accurate and easy to use.I compared it to the doctors own thermometer and gave same reading so that’s good enough for me

This is my second attempt at posting this review. Amazon refused to post my first review because I accused them of profiteering due this covid19 crisis! Shame on you for the censorship and shame on you for the price mark up.This was a replacement to an old one which stopped working. My 6yr old keeps getting tonsillitis and ear infections and given the current covid19 issue it’s really difficult to get a doctors appointment. As a result of the current climate thermometers and children’s meds have become almost impossible to get your hands on so when I saw this listed I had to get one even though Amazon have increased the selling price by an extra £20. Shame on you Amazon. The thermometer it’s self is good,I have no issues with it. It comes with 21 covers and is quick and gives accurate temperature readings. It also has a traffic light colour code system to help you know immediately if you have a slightly raised (amber) or high (red) temperature.

This is a tried and tested thermometer used by professionals. I noticed that my GP’s use a Braun thermometer in this range which is reassuring! This model feels more comfortable in the ear, especially for children as the probe is slightly slimmer than the cheaper version. The red/amber/green backlight helps quickly show if the temperature is raised or not.Note: the thermometer is programmed for temperature parameters based on the different age ranges so be sure to have the correct one chosen for your child.I find it helpful if I have a child feeling poorly to show them the colour - so even if they can’t read the numbers, they can see the colour and clearly understand red is bad,Amber is slightly raised and green is fine. It has helped my hypochondriac grandson to feel better more quickly once he sees his temperature is “green”!The price is not cheap (£59.99 at the time of writing) but is almost certainly worth it.

Since being recommended to use an in-ear thermometer by my very good Health Visitor (I got so lucky getting her as I know some ppl get disastrous HVs), I have only ever used this type. I also figure that if this is what the GP and the hospitals use then it’s good enough for my household. This offering from Braun is amazing. It is so easy to use and the controls are intuitive. I always keep spare covers for the sensor in the house and these can be bought cheaply from Amazon. This is the only downside in that these covers are made from single use plastic but I’m sure Braun will eventually come up with something clever to replace those with so they are more environmentally friendly. If you want an easy, safe and accurate way to keep track of your child’s temperature then this is the way to go!

This ear thermometer is simple to use with the smallest child, as it gives a readout very quickly with a quiet beep that is unlikely to disturb a child. The memory facility is a great idea, so you get an accurate record over time. This can be very useful when discussing a child’s fever with the doctor and for monitoring the effect of any medication used. A colour-coded back light for low, normal and high temperatures is also a good feature. The display stays lit for a few seconds, then the temperature remains visible under external lighting until the unit is turned off. This unit uses two AA batteries, and there is a battery level indicator on the display.I am not entirely happy that the pack of disposable plastic hygiene caps does not give recycling information.

This is a great! Taking an unwell baby or young child's temperature is stressful enough in those worrisome moments. This made it very easy. It worked straight out of the box with the included batteries and felt very intuitive to use, no real need to check instructions. It is light weight and easy hold/handle. The age specific settings really helped and made it feel much more accurate to use and trust. The traffic lights style colour coded display seems like the extra feature that was always missing from our old version of this, it makes it super easy to check and double check with confidence. The storage case is useful and keeps it clean and safe too. So,overall we are very pleased with this.

I was discharged from hospital a week ago after emergency major surgery. One of the routine tests were 4 hourly temperature checks using an ear thermometer. When I’ve spoken with doctors regarding post op symptoms via telephone appointments they always asked if I had a temperature. No thermometer so I had to guess. Now I feel very reassured by the Braun 7: it has a solid, professional feel to it and is easy to use.Checked each ears (37.0C and 37.2C) quick and easy first time trying.I also bought their case and I’m glad I did. Again nicely made and the thermometer and packet of hygiene covers fit perfectly. All good and a big thumbs up from me! ?

When you need accurate and temperature measurements fast this is superb. I've used previous generations over the years from various brands. This one has to be the quickest to power up and report an accurate temperature too. Ease of use ranks right up there too, very quick to clip on and off the plastic hygiene pieces. What makes this really unique is that you will see a temperature displayed with a colour coordinating back ground, showing green for good temperature thru to red displaying a fever! The device also lets you input your childs age which allows it to give a more accurate finding upon fever. Highly recommended.

Having 2 kids, I’m well used to them having fevers and have over teh years I’ve bought many different types and brands. I can absolutely say that this appears to be the most robust and consistent in reading. You are given a number of spare inserts to prevent cross contamination.I’ve been using this device for a number of months and I’m very happy with it. My wife works in a GP surgery and she says this item is exactly what they use! At RRP of around 100 quid, these are very pricey.. Probably too much for average usage but if you have a particular medical concern then I can recommend this.

I am so pleased with this product, after my daughter having a high temperature and our other thermometer not giving accurate readings I decided to purchase this one!. And it does not disappoint! It’s easy and clear to read and use, the coloured screens to help alert to the severity of the temperature is brilliant!Screen is green for good temperature, Amber for slightly high and bright red for high temperature!!This feature is great, especially when checking at 3am still half asleep, no need to focus on the number the colour tells it for you!!Honestly best thermometer I have ever seen!
