If you're considering buying top-of-the-range Braun's 799cc shaver, the chances are that you're also looking at the high-end offerings from other manufacturers, probably Philips and Panasonic. I considered these and a few others before eventually settling on the Braun, mostly because I wanted a return to a foil shaver after experiencing a few in-growing hair problems when I switched to a rotary, and the 799 was the most readily available in my neck of the woods. If you don't feel like reading the whole of this review, I'll cut straight to the chase. Is the 799cc a good shaver? Yes, very. Is it as a close as a blade? No, but it's closer than any other shaver I've had.Am I glad I bought it over the others I was looking at? Yes, and the others would have to be pretty good to beat it.The 799cc is typical Braun - a solid, and reassuringly but not unpleasantly heavy, half-plastic / half-rubber gadget with a combined power button / indicator light on the front with two buttons on either side to change the intensity of the shave. There's also a non-backlit LCD on the base of the shaver that gives a segmented indication of the remaining battery level and the hygiene status of the shaver (more on that later.) All told, it's a fairly pleasurable thing to behold and to hold, if perhaps somewhat weightier than my old rotary; the rubber casing does, at least, make it quite easy to grip hold of, even with wet hands. If the shaver is pleasant to hold, then it's equally good at shaving. I came to the 799 fresh from a long period of wet shaving, made necessary because my last shaver had a tendency to cause in-growing hairs. Understandably, my skin took some time (about a week) to get properly used to the new shaver and the shaves it gave in that first week weren't exactly brilliant. But I persevered and the second week was much better, with much closer and much less tender skin afterwards. In most respects the 799 outshines my old rotary, especially when it comes to the tough stubble above my chin and around my mouth and even the hairs on my neck. I've found that stretching the skin in these areas is more important than before, to let the foil really get to grips with this short hair, but the result is very good; not quite blade-close, but closer than any other electric shaver I've used. Where the 799 does struggle slightly is with the longer hairs around my sideburns, that my old rotary coped well with. I haven't used the 799 with shaving foam or in the shower as I really don't see the need when the dry shave is so good. The 799 incorporates Braun's tech formerly known as Pulsonic, which makes the shaver vibrate like it's filled with angry bees. This, supposedly, makes the hairs easier to cut by stimulating them into lifting up above the skin. It's a slightly odd sensation at first and one that takes some getting used to, particularly if you have sensitive skin, but the good quality of the shave means that it is, at least, probably working quite well. Just note that you can't turn the vibrations off, but you can lower their intensity using one of the buttons on the front, although even on the weakest of the three settings it's still very noticeable. Also in the box is the latest variant of Braun's Clean and Charge system, a dock into which the shaver is placed for (in case you hadn't guessed) cleaning and charging. I've used an older version of the C&C system in the past and have found it to be probably the best of its kind, the one with the 799 being something of an incremental evolution, as opposed to a complete re-thinking, of the old one. To use it, you simply drop the shaver into the slot on the top of the C&C after a shave, the system analyses how much of a clean is required (economic, normal or intensive) based on the 'hygiene' status indicator on the shaver's LCD, and then you just push the 'on' button on the front and let the system do its thing. An intensive clean takes something like 40 minutes to do, including active drying to dry the head afterwards, and once finished the dock charges the shaver so it's ready for its next use. There's also a super-fast, 25-second clean option if you only to give the shaver a quick going-over, which is quite handy for everyday cleaning, as long as you don't rely on it too often as it doesn't give as good a clean as the other options. The only slight negative, but necessary, point with the C&C system is the cost of refills, although it's worth it for the benefits of a clean and sterile shaver. The refills contain an alcohol mix for extra cleansing of the shaver head, which may irritate those with more sensitive skin, but mine is fairly sensitive and I've never had a problem with it. The 799 is totally waterproof, so if you don't like the idea of using the C&C you can always wash the shaver head under the tap, although if you do this you'll miss out on the benefits of the system automatically oiling the shaver head as it cleans. As I said at the beginning of this review, I chose the 799cc over shavers from several other manufacturers and it's a decision I don't regret. Rotary shavers give me an equally good shave but at the price of nasty in-growing hairs, and this was something I was keen to avoid in the future. The Braun is a tech-lover's shaver, with enough gadgetry built in to satisfy even the most tech-hungry bloke, and I'm hoping that no more in-growing hairs will be a pleasant added benefit.

This is my second series 7 shaver from Braun. I really liked the shave of the first one and it being a little beaten-up and needing new foils I decided to replace it and upgrade to a model with the Clean and Renew charger, something I had regretted not doing initially. My old Series 7 is a little over 5 years old now and the main components still work well; the battery still holds the charge well and the shaver motor works fine. However the pop-up trimmer broke a little over a year ago and I really missed it when travelling. There is a flat plastic section that slides up and pushes the cutter head upward and this broke, snapping clean in half near where the spring loaded mechanism attaches.I did try to glue it to fix it, but whilst doing so the plastic broke again near the hinge, making it impossible to fix. The plastic appears to have become very brittle with age and I had hoped that the more recent model would have changed this. Unfortunately it appears to be exactly the same mechanism and possibly the same type of plastic, so I guess that this part might break again. This is a crushing discovery for such an expensive shaver. That aside this newer model has some good features, like the fact that it is now totally waterproof and the addition of the shave intensity controls, which will no doubt help with the sensitive skin on my neck. Trimmer aside it feels as solid and indestructible as my previous model. I was equally surprised to discover that the overall shaver foil design has not changed all that much, in fact the shaver cassettes are interchangeable still, so overall this is an evolution rather than a revolution. The carry pouch is also a big step up on the previous one too, with a very nice and compact leather look pouch that closes properly with a zip, unlike the useless catch on the old, plastic model. This shaver still provides a great feeling shave in a short amount of time. I also use a Philips rotary shaver from time to time and despite the Nivea cream it exudes it tends to cause a lot of irritation. The Philips does provide the closer shave of the two but at the expense of irritated skin and taking almost twice as long (the surface area of the cutters being considerably smaller). The Clean and Renew station seems a bit of a gimmick, but it does have its practical side. The best thing about it is that once you're done shaving you don't waste so much time cleaning the shaver. I still take the heads off and empty as many whiskers out as possible, but I'm not as maniacal as I was before and I don't bother rinsing afterwards either. Pop the shaver in the base and it comes out fresh and fully charged the next time you shave. The system works by sluicing the alcohol based cleaning fluid through the heads and recirculating it back into the reservoir. This means that dirt will gradually accumulate in the fluid until it needs replacing. Using the cleaner less often does not provide much in terms of economy since the alcohol will evaporate away in any case. Braun predict 30 cleaning cycles before the fluid needs changing, but this might be less if you keep it somewhere fairly warm. I was also surprised by the restrictions Braun places on where you can set it up - why can't it be kept inside a mirror cabinet, for example? Do the alcohol fumes build up to risky levels? Do they attack the glass? Who knows, Braun don't explain themselves. The fluid is not kept within the unit hermetically either, so tipping it can cause spills and possibly damage your furniture/carpets. The good news is that the cleaning fluid refills are fairly reasonably priced, expect to pay about 3-4 pounds a month at Amazon prices. This is a great shaver and my face thanks me every time I use it. There are a couple of let-downs, the first is the price, which seems a little excessive, despite everything, and the second is the trimmer fitting that could snap, which is pretty unacceptable at this price point (then again, if you complain long and loud to Braun they might accept to fix it should it happen to you). I feel a bit mean taking off a whole star from a trimmer problem that happened on a different model and might not happen again, but since the price is so high I think it needs to be done.

I've always used a wet shave but recently started trying my son's Braun Series 3 340cc electric shaver. It was OK, but not good enough to replace a razor, so after reading several reviews I decided to plump for this top of the range version. That, and the fact that Amazon were doing a special one day discount of 25%!So, how does this compare? Well, it definitely gives a much closer shave than the 340cc and no matter how hard I press it gives me no irritation whatsoever. It's a joy to use, in fact. I wouldn't say it gives as close a shave as a wet, although it does in places, but overall it gives a more than satisfactory result. I'm very pleased with it. i don't use the three modes and just leave it on full power all the time.Tbh, they seem a bit of a gimmick when the shaver is so gentle on the skin even at full power. But, for those saying that they only need one or two passes I can only say I envy your skin/growth. If I did just one or two passes I'd look like I hadn't even bothered. Unlike a blade, I find I have to shave up, down, left, right and all shades of diagonal in between before my skin is left feeling baby smooth. And this is where this unit comes into its own, because no matter how often I went over the same area I never got so much as a hint of irritation, which could not be said of the 340cc. Some areas need a lot more work - like others, I found that the neck needed some pretty persistent shaving before getting the desired result. In fact, I found shaving sideways worked best there, for some reason. The chin and round the mouth was pretty straightforward, but my cheeks once again need a little workout. Maybe it's just me. Time-wise, I have to say that I don't think it saves me much at all over a wet razor shave, although for some reason it feels much less bother overall. It's certainly less messy! And speaking of wet shaves, I haven't tried this in the shower yet. It's been strictly dry, so can't comment on the rest. Nice to know it's possible should I need it, though.Cleaning the unit is straightforward. I tend to use a brush for a couple of days and the cleaning station every third day. I've only had it a month so if it looks like the solution evaporates before I've used it all I may speed up the regime, but as others have said it leaves it smelling and feeling like new, so full marks there.Overall I'm very happy with it and glad I made the purchase. It is expensive, but considering I shave every day it's worth it. And the small mortgage needed for the Gillette razors meant that I tried to eke them out for several weeks, so by the end of it I used to get unpleasant irritation due to the fact the blade lost a lot of its sharpness. That's a thing of the past, I'm pleased to say. I'd definitely recommend the Braun 799cc to anyone considering taking the plunge. I'm very glad I did.

This a good shaver. I have tried it a few times and it is good and leaves my skin with no much irritation. I much prefer this system to the Phillipshave, which I have previously. It is easy to carry around as the changer is not necessary. The shaver can charge straigh from the plug. The only inconvenience is that while plugged it doesn't work. You will need to wait to get some charge. The biggest inconvenient I have found so far is the cleaning. This shaver is not like the other Baun I had that under the foil had some sort of 'blades' (I know they were not proper blades but lets leave it there) that cut the hair. Then just brushing everything was easy and enough. Not anymore. The system is very different and is not possible to brush clean the foil casset. Washing under running water is ok but eventually you will need to use the cleaning-charging station, which is a real pity if you have to travel for long periods. The cleaning (and charging) station is bulky and a bit inconvenient due to the space it takes. In my case the station doesn't switch off after 10 min of finishing the cleaning as it is claimed. It takes quite longer to get off, but it finally does. It leaves the shaver very clean. I would recomend anyone to brush it and blow it before putting it in the station. I even rinse it under the tap beforehand to get rid of as much debri as possible. This is because the station will end up accumulating all the dirt you don't remove and you will need to clean it. The cleaning station also need cleaning, mate. The need of new cleaning solution every couple of months is an extra expense to think about. I am not sure if there will be alternative fluids. The liquid smells very alcoholic, but I presume it also has some sort of lubricant oils that keep the casset running smoother.Said all this, for those who need to travel for long periods it might be inconvenient. The cleaning station is not possible to carry around because of the size and because the cleaning solution inside will spill. I presume you might be abe to lock it with the lid it comes with but I am not sure how tight it will hold after a few uses. If you fly, and given that it is likely to be flammable, you won't be allowed to have it in your hand luggage.. Washing it under the tap can be good but I have not got a reall good clean yet. You will need to shake it repeatedly under the water don't just leave it under running water. It is a good shaver and I like it. If you are a traveller think about the cleaning before buy it. On the traveller's advantage you do not need to carry a charger with you like it happens with others and particularly with Phillipshave. You only need the cable to plug it to the mains. As a traveller you will need to balance both and decide.

This is Braun's top of the range shaver. It's expensive, but it's worth it. I previously had Braun 5 series with the cleaning station. The 7 series isn't just a small upgrade, it's a completely different shaver. It feels like a premium product. It's not too light & not too heavy; perfect balance. It comes with a premium leather pouch & the cleaning station. The cleaning station is more or less the same size as the other cleaning stations Braun offers. This one shows you if your cleaning cartridge is low on fluid & how clean your shaver is. You can clean your shaver under the tap, use the brush that comes with it or use the cleaning station. Depending on the hygiene status of the shaver,it'll perform a standard clean or a heavy duty clean. If you don't have time to wait around for the clean to complete, you can also perform a quick clean which will last a couple of minutes, after which you can use the shaver straight away. Braun does recommend that you change the cartridge every 8 weeks even if there's still fluid left.On the bottom of the shaver, there's a LED display. It's not back-lit but there's no need for that as you can't really shave in the dark anyway. It shows you the battery level & the hygiene status of the shaver. Fully charged, the battery lasts about 50 minutes. It takes 1h to charge it fully. The shave is very close, probably not as close as a razor shave, but it's really good. After shaving with the 5 series, my skin was irritated, but that's not the case with the 7 series. I'd also say it's much easier to shave with the 7 series. The 7 series uses sonic technology. You have 3 sonic modes on the shaver. All controlled with the + & - buttons below the power button. The power button light will change from white, light blue to dark blue depending on the setting. It's a very useful feature and helps to cut the flat hairs with ease. The main feature of this shaver, over the other 7 series, is that you can dry and wet shave. Other 7 series will probably stop working after a wet shave. As this is a wet shaver, I was surprised and relieved to see that you don't have to carry the cleaning station with you wherever you go. You can unplug the power cable from the cleaning station and plug it directly into the back of the shaver. There are a lot of manufactures who don't offer this with wet shavers. This is a major plus for Braun as you don't have to worry about running low on battery while on holiday.Overall, this is an excellent, top of the range shaver which is definitely worth the price. However if you're not going to use it for wet shaves, you should get the 790 model (which is for dry shaves only) as it's usually a bit cheaper and offers most of the same benefits & features.

I think I bought my first electrical razor about 10 or 12 years ago, of course with less money and not sure if my skin was going to love it I bought an entry level, then few years after that I went for a new one. I have always been a lazy shaver and my skin didn't like to be shaved too often and when few years ago I read on internet the trick of shaving under the shower I stated doing it with a Gillette Fusion Power shaver, but my dream was going back to an electrical one, able to work also under a shower.Last Christmas, as gift to myself, I decided to go for this razor. Best money spent for shaving.First of all, now I shave every day (or every other day). With the Braun electrical razors you can't shave with a long beard if you don't want to use a trimmer first or the saving can be a bit painful (at least with a thick beard like the mine), but the shaving experience it's so nice that even if I could still do it every two or three days, now I do every day. Shaving with this razor is much better than with my previous ones even when I use it dry, under the shower is just a pleasure. My skin is also happy with the Braun 799 and even if I feel that shaving every day is a bit demanding for her, just a bit of after shave cream leave it very soft and smooth, when with the other razors I often felt like my skin was on fire.On the bottom of the razor there is a display that shows you the level of battery and cleanliness. The battery lasts for more than 5 shavings, only once I ran out of battery, 5 minutes on charge and it was ready to finish the job. The hygiene level is a bit of funny, of course Braun wants you to use the cleaning centre (and buy refill) but you can also was the head under running water, but I have to admit, after a good cleaning, the razor is not just clean, but also well lubricated (another thing I was missing in my old electrical razors) and with a good smell. In the box you will find the razor, the cleaning station, one refill for the cleaning station, the cable that can be used for the cleaning station or to charge directly the razor (i.e. if you need to bring just the razor with you for a trip), and the rigid travel pouch (with soft hinge).I know this razor is expensive, but for me was really a game changer for shaving. And because I'm shaving more often my wife didn't even complain about the price (before she was always complaining about my scratching beard).Maybe it's just me, but this razor also looks and feels like a great piece of technology, the sharp blades, the engine, the led display, the firm grip and the silver body. I really feel like I have a piece of future in my hand. And in 5 minutes I'm done. Now I really feel like a grown-up man.

First thing: Out of the box and after ten minutes charging, this shaver gave me a superbly close shave, better than my previous Braun shaver and the Philishave I had before that. Well, that's only to be expected from a £228 shaver. Maybe it's because the shaving head moves a lot as you run it over your face, with the foil surfaces tilting in two dimensions, not just swivelling with the head, so contact with your skin is always close. You can shave in the shower if you like, and you can wash the shaver under the hot tap. You are really supposed to clean the shaver after each shave by slotting it into its big charging/cleaning station and pressing the button for a wash with Braun's cleaning fluid that sits in a tank in the station. That makes the shaver smell of lemon zest, and feel utterly clean. Indicator lights tell you which cleaning program will be used and how much cleaning fluid is left. It only takes a few seconds to load a new tank of fluid, which you will have to do every 1-2 months. If you do not want to use the cleaning cycle, you can just wash the shaver and give it a tiny drop of oil every now and then.A display on the shaver shows you how clean it is, and how much charge it has. A full charge of the Lithium-Ion battery will last me over a week. The display will also tell you when the cutter head is worn and needs replacing (about 18 months). A pop-out trimmer copes with sideburns and beards, with care will also get any hairs sprouting from nose or ears and I have even managed a nervous eyebrow trim. There are three intensities of shave, so you can switch to suit the sensitivity of your skin. This package of features comes in a well-styled shaver with a non-slip grip. All the materials used look top-quality, and you also get a very light and tough travel case that looks like leather and is hard enough to protect the shaver. You won't want to lug the charger station on a trip, so if you are going to be away more than a few days you can remove the proprietary mains lead from the station and take it along, as it will plug straight into the shaver. Don't forget your adapter plug. The lead has a two-pin plug meant for old-fashioned shaver sockets. There will be running costs: Braun recommends that a cleaning cartridge lasts 30 days at about £4 each, and a new cutter and foil head costs about £25 every 18 months. Say £65 per year together.Last thing: It isn't made in China! Hidden under the trimmer, I found engraved "Made in Germany".

I bought this shaver (Braun Series 7 799cc-7 Wet and Dry electric shaver with cleaning station) from amazon.de as amazon's price on that site (around £145 including delivery to the UK) was around £50 cheaper than the model was selling here or at other UK outlets. It's an excellent shaver, which I bought as a replacement for the old Braun 8995, which had given good service for more than six years. Both the Series 7 799cc and the later Series 9 9095cc have generally excellent reviews. The 799cc is now available at a fair discount on the price of the newest top of the range and both make use of the excellent automated clean and renew system.Having decided to go with the 799c,I don't have the 9095cc so I've no shaving experience with it, but its principal selling point and proclaimed difference from the 799cc is that it allegedly gives you 40,000 oscillations - or cutting movements – a minute as against 10,000 oscillations for the 799cc! Statistics are all well and good I guess, but the mere 10,000 oscillations of the 799cc give me a fast close shave with which I am very content. I wouldn't expect to experience more than a marginal improvement, if any at all, from the newer model despite its extra 30,000 oscillations! Indeed, I'm not sure that the effectiveness and comfort of a shave is simply a function of the speed of its cutting movements. There are various comparative reviews available online, but in my book the 799cc is a value top-of-the-range shaver in its own right and it comes in a useful protective case which is perfect when you're travelling and incidentally obviates the need for a guard for the shaver head. You might think it's missing when you open the box. It isn't - there isn't one! It's certainly the most comfortable shaver I've had. The 'wet and dry' manufacture means it's guaranteed safe to use this in the shower, though I haven't done so. As an apparent safety measure, shaving is disabled while the unit is plugged into an electric socket for recharging. Some people have raised this as an issue, but I'm not sure why. First, with a full charge this will work for a long time - certainly not far short of an hour. But if it does run low while you're away a very short charge will provide sufficient power for a cordless shave with hardly any delay. The cleaning station is included with the shaver, but it may come with only one cartridge and you do have to buy refill cartridges

Before I start, I have used Braun shavers for more years than I care to disclose in polite company so I have been able to see the progression they've made over time. This unit is the brand new top of the line model, replace the previous 790 model. It is exceptionally well built (losing the plasticky feeling of it's predecessor) and sits in the hand comfortably. It may be slightly heavy to some, but for a few minutes of shaving a day it's not going to be an issue. Also included is a nice pleather carry case, much better than previous itterations. It has three power settings depending on the level of attack you need for your stubble. I get by on the medium setting, maybe dropping to the lowest if I've had a tad too much sun.Unlike the previous model I find the top setting to be far too harsh for my skin day to day. There is a little pop out precision trimmer for sideburns etc. that is useful as the main foil won't get a straight line. You can use this model in the shower, seems to be a good feature. I personally don't get anywhere near a good shave using electric with wet skin than I do dry, so can't comment too much.On the bottom is a display showing how much battery life is remaining (around a months use on a full charge) and the 'hygene' factor. This essentially tells you when you need to use the cleaning dock, although I put it through once a week regardless. It will also tell you when you need to replace the foil. The clean and renew dock is excellent, you plug it in the top and about 40-50 minutes later it comes out sparkly and clean. The instructions state that a cleaner cartidge will last up to 3 months with weekly usage. I suppose that you could probably get this, but I think that 2 months would likely be the most you'd get. They are a tad expensive (£12-15 for 3), but they really do work! You may need to factor this in your running costs, plus the head will need to be replaced every 12-18 months. The foil and blade are all in one unit, you pop it off and stick on a new one, very easy.Overall this is an excellent day to day shaver. You will never get as good a finish as a wet shave, but this does nearly the same trick. It only looses points for the running costs (they will be higher than Braun would like you to think) and the fact it makes an absolute racket in use.

I am highly impressed with the quality of the shave I get from this new range topping series shaver. It is a highly innovative piece of gear. I have a beard and the Braun lets me shape its outline to perfection using its long trimmer while its pivoting, foil covered head effortlessly keeps my neck and cheeks 'baby bum' smooth. Apart from looking the part, it fits nicely in my hand and a rubberised finish affords a firm and secure grip. It is light and responsive in use. It runs quietly with the fine vibrations not unpleasant on the skin. I have not used an electric razor for some time and I am amazed at the technical advances that have taken place to enhance both the closeness and kindness of the crop. The Braun has 3 shaving modes; extra sensitive, normal and intensive and easy control over them. Easy reach buttons on the front of the shaver allows for quick change. The high quality of the finish and engineering speaks volumes. I love its compactness and enjoy the convenience of its fast charge, the state of which is indicated on the bottom of the machine. The Clean and Renew Charger is quite different to anything else I have ever come across. It not only hygienically cleans the shaver, but automatically charges, lubricates and dries as well as leaving it sweet smelling and feeling almost brand new each time it's used. If you are in a hurry, however, the shaver is fully sealed and can be cleaned and rinsed quickly under a running tap. You can also, of course, charge the shaver directly from the mains with the cable provided. You should note, however, that you will need to by a two pin adaptor for UK use to allow for both the direct charge and the charge using the Clean and Renew Charger. This is not supplied! The charger comes with a clear multi/language user guide and a neat carrying case for the razor. It will also hold the small cleaning brush that comes with it.

Lets start off by giving the reason I've dropped a star on a otherwise very good product, I live in England , and I expect any electrical item to be delivered fit for purpose, i.e. the ability to charge said item using a proprietary 3 pin socket available in every household in the uk , so lets have one in the box , eh Braun. Right whingeing over, lets begin by saying that the item is very well built and solid with just the right amount of weight , it has three power settings, I personally use the high setting which for me gives a shave easily comparable to a wet shave , but without the redness (razor burn) associated with wet shaves.it charges very quickly , the display on the bottom shows charge remaining and "hygiene",this is basically telling you how clean the head is, when it flashes in the red sector it needs a clean , it can be charged via the cleaning unit or via a 2 pin cord plug on the unit itself , coming back to the clean and renew unit, you press a button, the top of the unit slides up , you carefully place in a cleaning cartridge after removing the plug in the top, and slide down the top until it locks, you then place the razor at an angle aligning the charging pins at the back, the lights on the front tell you how much cleaning fluid is available in the tank, and how clean or dirty the head is, its just a matter of pressing either the quick clean button or the normal cycle button , its your choice, it does clean and lube the head very well, and it even dries the head on all cycles apart from the quick clean , the pop up trimmer is well placed and effective , and the swivel head and pivoting blades , coupled with the vibration, provide a shave experience unlike any other yet experienced from an electric shaver, all in all a very good unit, slightly expensive, but up there at the very top.

This is my best shaver ever in 50 years of buying electric shavers and also using manual and AAA powered hand razors.I love the clean feel of a shave from this Braun just after I have cleaned it in its docking station. This is certainly the best shaver I've ever had. However, is it better than a little powered razor (such as the Gillette Fusion Power or the similar Wilkinson powered little black razor)? No, it is just that the Braun Series 7 is more convenient and very nearly as clean shaving. I took it on holiday for 12 days and the power reservoir had only gone down one bar, but I do find that its cleanliness level drops on its gauge to nearly fully dirty within 2 days, though this doesn't stop it shaving well and is probably the gauge rather than the reality. The cleaning unit told me when it wanted me to fit a new reservoir, which was when the light showing the cleaning fluid level reached the bottom of its three positions. At this point there was still cleaning fluid present and I carried on a long while, before I re-checked the instructions and changed the now very dirty cleaning reservoir for a new one. A cleaning refill is intended to last about 30 days. Occasionally I forget to bring the Braun into the shower room, so on those days I use my Fusion blades or whatever as they sit ready in that room anyway and this idea of mixing Series 7 shaving with occasional hand shaving works very well, there does not appear to be any skin acclimatisation period as mentioned in the Braun 7 guide. Finally, I chose the wet and dry model for the freedom of that and in the belief that a wet electric shave would be best. In fact I have only used it dry, it works so well like that.

For something that retails at around £228 I was expecting a lot. Thankfully this shaver knocked my socks off!I gave the shaver an initial 5-minute charge (the packaging says this is enough for a shave) as I was keen to give it a go as soon as possible. My first shave with it was bliss; the foil meant that it rotated as I moved it across my face, which made for a very smooth shave. I managed to trim my beard quite nicely with the long hair trimmer, too.Though the shave itself was great, what really impressed me was how little maintenance the shaver needs. A quick rinse and it seemed clean the first time, but Braun's unit can do much more; when you've finished shaving, just slot it into the charging station, press a button and it washes and lubricates the shaver. On top of that, the shaver is left with a nice smell. Very zesty and citrus smelling.Beyond a great shave and easy maintenance, the shaver comes with a built-in display that tells you how much of a charge is left in the battery and how clean the unit is.Though the shaver itself should last years, there are some running costs: with new cleaning cartridges and cutter/foil heads, running the unit will probably set you back £50 to £70 a year, depending on how often you shave and how often you clean the unit with the Braun's cleaning system. This is a truly impressive shaver and if you need to shave a lot, I heartily recommend it. That said, quality costs and this is a top notch shaving solution. It's not going to be in everyone's price range, but if you can afford it, go for it.

I've had the 7 790 for about 2 years now and this is a step up in all aspects - build, style and shave quality.Like others in the series, the 7 799 is beautifully engineered and balanced, fitting perfectly in the hand and - despite being weighty - easy to handle. It comes with a nice quality, leather pouch and the standard Braun packaging along with a manual and small cleaning comb and 1 cleaning cartridge. These retail at about £12 for 3. Each one lasts about a month. This Braun features 3 levels of sensitivity, can be washed under a tap and actually used in the shower! Personally, I find this makes the glide motion across the face a little rough so don't use this feature. One feature I do like is the fact the shaver can be charged directly from the mains (via a suitable shaver socket)and not just via the wash unit. Great for when you are away from home and don't want to carry the extra bulk of the cleaning base. The actual shave is as good as I've come to expect from top of the range Braun's: close and comfortable with no irritating of the skin. Can cope easily with 3-4 days growth and I've found a single charge lasts about a week, with daily use of the shaver.Time to charge fully is about 1 hour, which is pretty quick for a week's shaving.Only tiny 'fault' and its not really a fault, is the shaver is a little noisy when used especially if the 'intense' options are used. All in all a great shaver, easily a 5 star product but for the cost. Recommended to anyone who doesn't mind paying a 5 star price for a 5 star product!

I have always been a fan of the wet shave and the close-cut effect that you get with that. However, the time consumed when wet shaving and the fact that you always need to be by a sink and water has meant that I found myself skipping out on shaves in the mornings. My wife didn’t approve of the ‘hairy bear’ effect – she assures me it was a term of endearment – that would result. So after much thought I shopped around and found the reviews of the Braun Series 7 799cc to be top notch and thought I’d take a chance.I’m glad I did – the razor is amazing.I agree with the comments on here that say it’s not as close as a wet shave. But I don’t agree that this is a negative point of the razor. No electric razor is going to be as close as dragging a sharp blade directly over the stubble. So really, if you buy this expecting to get the same cut as your Gillette pro-glide...then you are going to be disappointed.Don’t let this put you off, as what it will do is give you a cut that will mean smooth skin and no stubble in a quick 5 mins..without messing around with shaving gel/foam and having to clean up all the hairs and foam afterwards. The battery lasts for a long time on a single charge (1 and a bit weeks of being used every day and the battery still had charge in it)...so it’s perfect for taking on holiday with you.It does have a cleaning station that is handy for giving it a clean and it does take roughly an hour to charge from flat. All in all I’d recommend it for anyone considering a new or replacement electric razor!
