I am really happy Arc'Teryx started doing more hike oriented hard shells a few year ago.Not everyone who is going outside always needs space for a helmet. Not having all that extra fabric around your head, or the excess bagginess that comes with some models like the Beta jackets, is quite nice.The fit is some what trim, but enough room for a warm mid layer. I lvoe Arc'teryx because it fits athletic body types real well. And this is no different.It is quite comfortable fabric on the skin and a more quiet fabric than many other hiking hardshells out there. And it does pack quite small. The length is a couple o finches longer than regular models like the Beta or others.

I have had a couple of patagonia torrentshells which I've enjoyed, then upgraded to a better gore-tex patagonia shell, but felt like it was just ok. I put this on my wish list and my wife suprisingly bought it for my birthday for a trip to Iceland I had planned for months. This jacket is unbelievable. I used to think that arc'teryx was was overpriced, but I loved this thing so much, I paid my wife back by getting her one. It was unbelievably good at holding off the howling cold Iceland winds and rain. I barely needed to wear an insulating layer. Granted, I went in the summer when the temp was in the high 40's, but it rained everyday and this jacket was ridiculously good.

I own a number of Arc'teryx Gore-tex garments and I like this one for its light weight and trimmer (compared to others) fit. However, it's not as trim as I had expected. Arc'teryx Medium is too snug for my 41" chest and Large can be voluminous (like my Beta AR, which is fine for wearing over insulated mid-layers). Additionally, the Large has really long arms for my 5'-8" frame; I really wish the company would divide the size into Regular, Long and Extra-Long lengths.The pockets are well-placed when wearing a daypack. The inner pocket is barely big enough for the newer smartphones.

Yes it is expensive. But you will not regret buying this. Especially if you are a avid hiker, climber, outdoors person. If you need a gortex hard shell. This jacket will not disappoint

Had it for one month. No strenuous conditions yet. However, construction is superb, fit excellent. You get what you pay for.
