I use this 8bitdo sf30 pro controller for my Nintendo switch console in docked mode to the tv and it works perfectly this controller is absolutely beautiful it looks retro and brings back very fond childhood memories the colours of the buttons the style and shape of the controller just feel and look amazing the lay out of the buttons are perfect for me and I feel like this controller is so simple and easy to use with a classic layout i did think that without the hand grips it might feel uncomfortable to use over long periods of time but to be honest the controller feels perfect in my hand and it seems to fit very comfortably too I’ve used this for 6-8 hours of pure gaming at a time and therewas no comfort issues for me i actually wanted this for its retro looks and great style and to me its worth every last penny of the £33 paid the quality of this product is outstanding for this price too it feels very well made with good quality plastics used and a good button feed back during gaming the analog sticks work perfectly with no noticeable lag at all on my console and the D-pad feels just like a classic Nintendo D-pad so its perfect for me as D-pads go this one is outstanding the battery last well it states 16 hours and I’ve had around 14 hours straight out of the box it can be used while being charged too so that’s a massive bonus for me its pretty easy to pair to your switch console it takes about 2 mins to do and once paired it will remember the console every time you turn it back on so that’s really handy and convenient too it does work for windows laptops/pcs and android devices too but I’m yet to try this for my self the instructions are easy to follow and well printed and i like the fact they’ve gone to the trouble of making the Charging cable flat so that it doesn’t tangle its a small detail that works well and shows the effect and thought that went into this product i highly recommend this product and i will definitely be buy more of 8bitdo products in the future

Excellent controller for the Nintendo Switch.I was initially disappointed due to the extremely loud and annoying rumble motor when using the product straight out of the box. But reading another review, I noted that this may be fixed with a firmware upgrade. After upgrading the firmware (took about 5 mins on a Windows pc after going to the 8bitdo support page to download the firmware) the rumble is now near perfect with no annoying high pitched sound. I wasn't able to use the supplied usb c cable to do the upgrade. I had to use another cable - the one for my one plus 3 phone - to get it connected to the windows pc. I do however note that the charging light came on when using the supplied cable,so not sure why the data side isn't working. As for the controller itself, the design is a spitting image of the old SNES controller (modified slightly for the other input buttons). It seems really solid. I'm used to PS3 sized controllers and this feels smaller in the hand then that so it feels a little small when gripping with both hands, but I can let it off because it definitely looks the part. Very solid finish, albeit a little on the light weight side, but feels durable. If it was £30, I would consider buying another one - £40 is about the max I would have paid for this. Anything higher and I would have been considering the official pro controller.(Also, so far, I haven't found a way of waking the switch up from sleep using the 8bitdo controller without pushing the power button on the switch itself. I'm not sure if this is a limitation, but would be a minor gripe for me in any case). In summary, great controller, but make sure you do the firmware upgrade. A tad pricey, but you'll buy this first for nostalgic reasons, and then functionality, but that's not to say that the functionality on this controller is poor.

Having larger hands, I find the Switch Joycons are a touch fiddly and cramp-inducing after a longer session, even detached from the console and fitted to the grip - small buttons and short stick travel do not help. The Nintendo Pro controller is expensive and I was put off by reports on the D-pad being inaccurate in use, so opted for this having fond memories of the SNES joypad from my youth. Happily it has proven to be a good pad, basically identical to the old SNES pad in terms of size, albeit a touch thicker and with the obvious extra analog sticks etc. The D-pad is perfect, the sticks are nicer to use than those of the Joycons, as are the buttons. It also doesn't have issue of the right analog stick getting in the way of the lower face buttons that I experience on the Joycons. Rumble is perfectly adequate although not as good as Joycons (do update the firmware though) - I was able to locate the buried moons in Mario Odyssey without issue, so there is enough subtle variation in intensity for most purposes, although it is a touch loud. Not an issue unless you game in silence or are particularly sensitive to that. Battery life is very good and I have had no issues with bluetooth pairing. I do think the more standard shape and size of the Nintendo Pro controller may be better for long-session comfort based on my experience using a Xbox 360 controller for the last 10 or so years with console then PC, but really the SF30 is not uncomfortable to hold, just not 'modern' ergonomically speaking.Overall I'm very pleased I went with this option and saved £20 over the Pro controller. The design gives me warm reminiscence for the SNES whenever I pick it up, and it is more comfortable than the Joycons for adult hands. Packaging is neat and so far it has proven reliable.

I bought this mainly as it looks amazing. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, as it's built like a tank - better quality in my opinion than a PS4 controller, and on the same level as latest-gen Xbox One controllers.Pairing was easy - I've tried it with a Samsung S10e, an iPad, a Nintendo Switch, and a cheapo USB Bluetooth adapter on a PC. Button mappings vary depending on device, and this has built in modes to handle each kind of device. Compatibilty across Android, iOS, and PC is seamless. The buttons themselves are also excellent. They feel super high quality and feel like they will last through very heavy use. My only gripe is that the d-pad takes a fraction more force to depress than I would like,so long gaming sessions will be tiring on your left thumb. You could of course use the analog stick which is super smooth, or just take it as a sign you need a break.Overall I love this thing, but do consider it's purpose. It's a retro gaming controller by design, and therefore most suited to retro or 'simple' games. Fortunately that's almost everything in the smartphone gaming space, both modern and emulated.Don't forget it has analog sticks which opens up huge capability which is amazing, but it does lack analog triggers; so driving/racing games are a bit harder. Unless its specifically something like Mario kart on the Switch, in which case this is a match made in heaven. For around £30 quid though, this is a compact controller with top of the line build quality and performance. If the retro design appeals to you, and all you need is a bunch of great physical buttons with the bonus of dual analog sticks, there is nothing better than this.

Due to connectivity issues with one of my Joy-cons, i sort out a new controller for use with the nintendo switch and after looking about, the SF30 Pro stood out amongst the rest. It feels great, it rests comfortably in my hands of which are quite big, and the controller itself can do anything the official nintendo pro controller can do, minus the ability to read amiibos (controller does not house an NFC reader). I was able to collect 30 skill based power moons in Mario Odyssey with ease, drive to victory both in 200cc (Analog stick) and 150cc using motion controls in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and stormed Hyrule Castle on Master Difficulty without breaking a sweat in Zelda: Breath of the Wild.In all honesty, in the short time i have used it, I would give the device a 5 star review and a very high recommendation, but as you can tell there is a minor catch that i experienced which i feel should be shared with any future customers. When I play Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, I experience very noticeable input lag from the controller after interacting with an object / NPC. This issue from what i can see is entirely software based and it also effects other games on the switch (Megaman 11 and possibly others). I have updated the firmware to its most recent release, but the problem still remains. If your are looking for a controller, and feel this one might fit the bill, please look online with some of your games and check to make sure your games are compatible with this hardware.

Nice alternative to the Nintendo pro controller. It includes many of the features needed in a switch controller like motion controller, additional buttons for screen capture/home button but saves money on no NFC tech if you aren't planning on ever using that like me. It sync'd with the switch easily out of the box.Like many video reviews, I think the only downside to it is the rumble feature which is a little much. Too loud and too crazy, but to be fair it is toned down if you update the controller firmware (currently on v1.23) so not a massive problem. It would be nice if the developers could think of a way of reflecting the battery life in the controller back on the switch.Otherwise you need to keep an eye for flashing lights on the controller itself.-1 star for build quality though. Going by in-game save timer, after about 100hrs in Xenoblade chronicles 2; the left analog stick is already showing wear and tear. The left analog cap is literally rubbing away to pieces of rubber shavings exposing the hard plastic nub underneath. Controller still works fine but will have to shop around for some sort of replacement rubber cap soon.EDIT: xbox one thumb sticks caps are a suitable size for covering these analog sticks

Thought about buying a pro controller for my switch. But I generally play in handheld and after spending hours customising my switch I wanted an accessory that wasn't just stock for the switch. I'd heard good things about this controller and the only gripes I heard about where the rumble pack being a bit severe. So I gave it a go.The packaging and appearance of the controller is superb and high quality. The feel of the controller in the hands and the buttons / thunbsticks are also superb and sturdy. Like the Volvo of controllers.Bluetooth connection to the switch is simple and quick. The controller comes with a small info book that easily explained the pairing process. The controller is also usb C "yeaaaaaaaah" and comes with its own sturdy and long Usb C cable. Thanks for that.Played some Skyrim and Doom with the thunbsticks and also Slain and Mario (original) with the D pad and all is sweet and comfortable. The smaller form factor of this controller means it's a little easier to travel with and also adds a good conversation starter with any Nintendo or gaming fan.10 out 10 8bitdo. You did a sterling job. A good price point as well for the quality of the controller.Highly recommended.

Pro:+ build quality is good, feels nice in hands, doesn't "creak" when handled, the built in battery gives it nice weight.+ Finally a 8BitDo controller with good d-pad!!! Other 8Bitdo pads I've tried have had somewhat crummy dpads, as they have taken up/down inputs when even gently rocking the dpad when pressing left/right.+ On pc, the pad's Xinput mode makes the pad identify itself as microsoft xbox 360 pad, which makes it work on pretty much anything. Huge plus for that. The mode switching instructions are printed on the back label of the controller.Neutral:~ I kinda wish the pad as slightly larger to better fit my hands, but I guess the idea was to pretty much have identical feel to the old snes pad.Maybe make controllers for a bit bigger hands, please? :)~ The pad could be slightly thicker to better utilize the L1/R1 triggersMinor Cons:- The supplied usb-cord is fairly short (about 50cm, I guess), so if user wants to use it wired, they most likely need a longer cable. All things considered, this is easily one of the better pads I've tried, and so far easily the best 8Bitdo one. Recommended.

I got given this controller for x-mas after eyeing it up about a year before I even owned a Switch & am very pleased with it. Aesthetically it looks great in person and the material makes it feel just like the real deal Snes controller. It synced to the switch very easily and I found it very easy to get used to using. Much better for fine tuned controls than the Joycons.Pros:Looks (even the packaging is great).Good value for money.Bigger/easier to use buttons than the Joycons (especially the + & - buttons, once again correctly named "start" and "select" thanks to the design). All controls work as should.Even the motion sensor controls are perfect.Has a turbo button option (have not tried it yet but the instruction tell you how).Ease of sync to Switch.Battery time (around 16 hours straight out of the box).Cons:Could have done with being a bit bigger for comfort (not a huge issue, does not result in sore hands/finger after many hours of use). The Switch cannot accurately read what the controller's currently battery level is. Always shows as full on the home screen.

Almost Great... Having many controllers for a myriad of devices, I have a firm list of favourites and a list of not so great. The 8BitDo SF30 PRO controller is so very close to being perfect. The buttons are solid, springy and responsive, even the shoulder/trigger buttons (the downfall of many controllers) are smooth and comfortable. The D-Pad is in the familiar Nintendo style and there are adequate buttons for everything. Connecting to Windows, Steam and Switch was very easy and straightforward. Connecting to Raspberry Pi varied depending on the OS running but was mostly quick and painless. The only let down that holds the controller back from greatness is the shell build quality. It just feels a little cheap and 'off'. In some ways this could be argued to be an accurate representation of the SNES pad the SF30 PRO pays homage to. As the SNES pads were always a little skimped on and cheap feeling. Overall though, I have to say the pad is great for everything from basic 2D sidescrolling platformers, through to CS:GO and the like. Well worth £35.00.

I like it! The classic design of the SNES pad of yester-year....whats not to like? The analogue pads are a great addition, feel solid and robust. The additional L and R analogue buttons are good but as I have large fingers, I sometimes hit them by mistake when pressing the normal L and R buttons. Not taking anything off the score as its just my large fingers :)I gave it 4 out of 5 because I just find the D pad to be a bit too stiff. Compare this to the original SNES pad or event the Buffalo SNES USB pad (which has a D pad that is near enough perfect), it takes some getting used to. In saying that,if you own the SNES mini then the D pad on that is the same stiffness as this so I can only assume that the manufacturing of the D pad has changed somewhat. It connects to my PC and MAC just fine and have used it to link to my Pi 3 and Switch. One useful thing is that there is a little graphic on the back of the pad that tells you which button to press with start to switch modes.

This is undoubtedly 8bitdo's best BT retro controller to date. Have already tested it on various platforms and systems and it works beautifully. Systems tested are Android, Windows, Linux, STEAM, iOS and a SWITCH with no detectable lag.Compared to the N30 Pro it feels better in the hand, and thanks to being slightly wider than the N30 the analogue sticks and the L2/R2 buttons are spot on... No more accidental hitting of L1/R1 when playing PSX games, and your thumbs sit comfortably on the mushrooms.I'll mainly be using this as a controller for RetroArch running on two Libreelec(kodi) systems... A Raspberry Pi3, and an A95x S905x box.I had to create a new UDev profile configuration file specifically for the SF30 Pro to make sure it worked with Retroarch, and that's was it... up and running with minutes.Overall a great controller and a really good alternative to buying the Switch gamepad.

I initially bought this as something of a novelty. I love the SNES and thought the controller looked great, but didn't expect it to be very useful for the switch. I have been pleasantly surprised over the past few days though. It's a quality product, sturdy and comfortable to hold, with a big d'pad that makes it GREAT for 2D games. The thumbsticks are a good build quality, but a bit awkward to use for most games. I don't consider that much of a problem though, because this is a controller designed around 2D games, where you'll rarely if ever use the thumbsticks.I'd say, if you're looking for a controller specifically for 2D games, this could be it. It's certainly my choice. But if you're thinking about using it for 3D games, I wouldn't recommend it. You *could* use it, but there are far better choices out there.

Absolutely my favourite Switch controller. The D-pad is amazing for all the 2D games I play, absolutely the best D-pad I've ever used, I'll never go back. It even works on my phone and PC so I can use it for steam/mobile games too, and connecting it to these is really simple, just press two buttons and you're connected to whatever device you want (Switch, PC, Android, iOS).Despite not having any hand grips, it's smooth, rounded shape makes it super comfortable no matter how long I use it.The added thumbsticks, triggers and home/share buttons make it completely compatible with any Switch games that can use the Pro Controller. Love the colours of the face buttons as well. I never owned an SNES,so this isn't just nostalgia speaking, either.Highly recommend this controller, even over the official Pro Controller.

I love this controller so much words cannot describe it. The thing is built like a brick, I don't think this will ever break through normal gameplay. All of the buttons feel responsive, the analogue sticks feel great. The only downsides are the rumble (Bothers some people, not me.) and the latency issues which occur when you start playing with more controllers. (Can be fixed via firmware updates, they've done it with their previous products.) I'm so glad I bought this controller, it's good for nostalgia, it's got the retro style going on and it's cheaper than the official Pro controller.I'd like to add I bought this for my Nintendo Switch but I am also using it on the computer with no problems. It actually functions better than my PS4 controller, so now this is the default controller for both my Switch and PC.
