Last drive (WD 3T blue) was great, as (I hesitate to say incase they get complacent after their excellent work - was the previous WD 2T RED & WD 2 T Green). I use for reliable storage but this time I needed a drive for possible OS & storage (win 7, XP 64 Pro). Over the past 18 years various drives have dominated (in 2000 I would not best a WD drive). Now after years of use the Seagate Barracudas & definately Maxtores are mostly dead. The Hitachis are balanced between fine & quite problematic. The WD's I have bought in the last decade are still semless:Red: Perfect - used as storage for 8+years in an external enclosure (Probox - god i miss these indestructable esata boxes and the old prices)Blue: Perfect - used as a drop in for the Icy Box Dock.1 Year. Solid & no real speed difference over e-sata (love e-sata)Green: Perfect - as drop in again this is still solid, reliable and holds e-sata speed (not much in it but blue & red seem very marginally better)Purple: Great/Perfect - they really know what they are doing. I tried this for a change. Good E-sata speed, very Reliable as to date. Well built as norm, nice drive. At the moment I love n trust WD's work. Have not tried black but do not see the need with PC speeds non server. The rest are all excellent. Purple? I guess time ...several years will tell (or use in much security recording as designed...still awhile I would say). Green are fine, red n blue I feel more comfortable with, as too do I purple. A larger size may lead you to their proposed red or blue, and for a speed margin perhaps black (not needed for regular home PC). Nice to have options but better to have ones data still accessible. For now I don't look elsewhere, I just check price & needed size (I don't need NAS so only pure storage drives I get will be over 2T - this is the tec that does move on...& prices get better). Cheers WD... lifesaver.

Used in 24/7 cctv system, 3 full he cameras constantly recording to the drive with no issues. I have software limited it to only record upto 95% then record over and it's fine. Ideally you should raid them so if you do get a drive drop you won't loose footage but these drives seem very reliable. Also use reds for file storage and have 6 of them ranging upto 4 years old without issues. I replace drives every 5 years regardless but never had a wd drive fail on me

I've always liked Western Digital HDDs. I remember in 1995 I had a WD hard drive which went wrong in the first year I owned it, and they replaced it, with absolutely no messing around, with a newer, larger version (as my version was discontinued). Anyway..Bought a couple of these for my desktop computers and they do as they should... and they're purple which would be great if I could see them.

Designed for Surveillance DVR, works a treat. I have used WD drives for 20+ years and only ever had one go faulty and despite it being just out of warranty, WD replaced it but it is worth getting the extra years warranty for £19.99 if you didn't purchase it as part of the price :) If I wasn't confident with WD, I wouldn't be planning to purchase 4 x 4Tb WD Red NAS Drives via Amazon.

Best for cctv do your homework go to YouTube Google wd hard drive... what colours mean " Basically it's optomized for cctv worth getting as another's seem to pack up after a while.. I only use Western Digital. Over the years i've had numerous other brands fail on me and have only ever had one failure with WD. I use these for personal files and as part of my trade as a CCTV engineer. Cannot fault these at all.

My Yale camera system had gone into a reboot loop and after disconnecting the old HDD it settled down.Found out the drive was a normal 1TB desktop drive so decided to upgrade with this surveillance always on one.Plug n play.

I bought this WD HDD to replace a dead Seagate 1TB HDD supplied in a HIKVISION NVR CCTV system on February 17.Performance of this WD PURPLE is far and away better. And is designed for surveillance applications.

I am very positively supprised by speed of files finding. I needed a second drive as I have 120ssd for my system and my old 1gb was slow and full. It's actually fantastic!

Having replaced C: drive with an SSD was looking for a reliable high capacity data drive.Trouble free installation and silent operation as a single partition.

I always thought DVR recorders were noisey things until my old hdd failed. This new hdd is silent and works brilliantly....definitely a good upgrade.

Used to replace a faulty HDD in my CCTV system. Plugged in and started operating immediately with no set-up. Still going strong months later.

Does exactly what it was bought for. Quiet operation in a friends CCTV box where I ungraded the hard disk to higher capacity for him.
