Why do I give five stars to a product that failed? I bought two of these drives to match the one in my computer. Big mistake, I should have bought three to make the total up to four. Good lesson, always have an even number of the same drives in your computer. The reason why I am giving this five starts is because the customer service at Amazon was first class. Having used one drive from my operating system and programs and the second as a clone of that drive (use Clone Drive to do you cloning), I used the third drive as a storage facility. Having spent months loading it up with work and other files it got the dreaded click of death. Yep, it developed a fault and the clicking was due to the sensor not being able read the data.Don't be alarmed, this can happen to any machine at any time. Had I followed the even number of drives rule, I would have had this drive cloned as well and of course no data loss. MY FAULT. The important thing is that when I contacted the brilliant people in Amazons customer care department, they were very helpful and gave me an immediate refund and sent me a returns label via email link. What more can a customer ask for? Once I get the refund into my bank account, I will buy two more of these hard drives and stick to my own advice as outlined above.

Barely audible even sitting in my external reader on top of my desktop computer (although it's possible it's just emitting a steady whine above my hearing level, cos I can hear it spin down and up). I'm currently using it as a backup drive, and have written a mere 252GB to it so far according to stats, but it's performed that job well so far in the 9 months I've had it. It's due to shortly be replaced by a 3TB drive, since the sweet point has moved and in today's money I can buy that for twice the price of this, yet get three times the capacity, but I may still pull it into service to replace the old 320GB drive currently installed inside my desktop machine.I've not been able to test how fast it is yet, since I have it in an enclosure connected to a USB2 port, but it's speedy enough for me. It also runs quite cool - I could only measure a 12 degree increase above ambient after it was on for a couple of hours copying 88GB of data to it just now, and that's inside the small plastic box that is my dustproof HDD caddy with no ventilation, which impressed me.

It's one of the cheapest 3 TB drives on the market, and does its job well. It's big, and the speed is pretty standard. If you just want something to cram all your files on, this works perfectly, especially if complemented with an SSD for your most used programs and games. The only downside is that it's louder than any other hard drive I've had (which, to be fair, isn't that many) - I'd say it's about three or four times as loud as a WD Blue, for reference. Even through headphones (if nothing's playing), you'll definitely notice when the drive is reading or writing. However, I would still say it's worth it. It's not annoying, although it does take some getting used to,because at first you might think the drive is dying or something. As a reference, I bought this 17 months ago for £61.95. In that time, it has been powered on for 9,952 hours. It's still going strong with no SMART errors or weird behaviour. With sequential reads of 142 mb/s and sequential writes of 138.9 mb/s (at 62% full), it's a pretty standard speed - almost identical to my 1 TB WD Blue.

This was purchased for my son as a Christmas present last year and the first drive was delivered by Yodel!!! who only posted it through the letterbox!!! despite Amazon packaging stating "fragile" as you can guess to my disappointment on installation it would not work and the drive was damaged internally from the drop by posting it through the letter box and it dropping onto a hard floor - Idiots!Amazon were great at replacing this but at the time it was frustrating and I demanded a different delivery company to which they agreed and the replacement was delivered as it should of been with a knock at the door.It has been faultless and the drive runs very quiet and smooth and has been in daily use ever since purchase,it also has a 7200 spin speed which is better than a 5400 spin speed and has a decent 32MB buffer. All in all very pleased with this drive which has been reliable without any faults.Service from Amazon was fantastic and the packaging was great just a shame the first delivery was with Yodel!

I bought two of these and set them up in a RAID 0 formation in a new build machine as data storage. They do what they are supposed to, seem very quick. Good price as well.Oops.. 8 days after installation one of the drives started clicking and failed. Fortunately the operating system (Windows 7-64) is on a separate SSD. I switched off and let the box fully cool down. Switched on again and all was fine for a while, long enough to make sure I had a complete backup. Then more clicks and failure. This is the bathtub probability distribution in action: hard drives either have a tiny fault and fail in the first few weeks or they last for years.I ordered a replacement drive (same model)through Amazon yesterday and it came today and I've swapped out the defective one for return to Amazon. The new one is working well so far and I'm just restoring files to it. The occasional failure is just bad luck and it could happen to any hard drive so I'm not going to mark it down. Four stars.

I bought this hard drive to upgrade my old one since the windows operating system inevitably bloats itself with updates etc. I had to clone the original drive, which I did with one of the free clone softwares you can find on the net.I used Easus. the actual transfer can take from an hour to several hours depending on your system. Full instructions are available on youtube. once cloned the drive was reconnected in place of the old 'c' drive. I found that on startup the drive was very slow, with programs seeming to take ages to come up, I thought there was something up with it. however, after opening all the programs once, each subsequent opening was at normal, if not faster speed.I realised that it takes a first session to re-establish the routes on the new hard drive to each program. So dont be put off by sluggish performance on the first try. since then it has run flawlessly, and at a great price.

Easy to set up, just booted from Windows 7 install media and restored my system image from my current 1TB HDD and after a few hours it booted up fine. However the noise level is just too high for me as I sleep in the same room as my PC. The HDD I had in my PC was the same model Toshiba as this new drive but 1TB, that one is almost silent. Both drives say made in China by Toshiba and the model numbers are the same except for a 1 or a 2 respectively, the old one has a Jan 2014 date and the new one Nov 2018.Maybe its just this particular drive or the 2TB are just louder, I bought a Seagate Barracuda as well to try and the noise level from that is much better but it seems it 'may'not be as robust as its lighter, so reluctantly I went with the Seagate. The 1TB Toshiba I had has been so reliable I wanted to use Toshiba again but the noise is just too much.

This is my 3rd purchase of Toshiba drives, I currently have 2 churning away in a NAS box, one of which is several years old. This latest will be to replace yet another Seagate drive that is dying.Seagate - the Fiat of the HDD world - 2 years and the doors fall off!!!Perhaps the negative reviewers could name and shame the companies selling the bad drives, to see if there is a pattern of bad drives being sent out again and again, and also if any particular company is not packaging correctly. All of mine (so far) have come well padded in a sturdy cardboard box.At least we Toshiba buyers seem to be more intelligent than most; I read a review for a Samsung tablet giving 1 star because the buyer mistook the mSD slot for a SIM slot!!!For those who have suffered from poor packaging, here is how ADMI sent mine

I bought this to be one of a pair of disks in a RAID1 software array. The first one of these I received was a dud. On connecting it to the computer it hummed louder than I expected it should have and proceeded to make a loud, regular clicking noise - the so-called click of death. This was not a problem though, because Amazon's returns policy is excellent and so a replacement drive arrived quickly. On connecting the replacement to the computer it started straight away, running quietly and initialising quickly with no problems to date. The 2TB are metric terabytes and not binary ones, so there's less than 2TB of actual storage here. Having said that it's ideal for my NAS needs. The other NAS disk is of a different brand to this,to guard against design and manufacturing defects. Can't be too careful! :-)

fast HDD. i installed Steam and other programmes on this piece of kit. bought because WD (though great and mainstream popular with new PC builders for price and green quality) did not have assurance of a product that would guarantee peace of mind for me.early days though. loads games quick, very little difference to SSD. i wil not install OS on this but it should not be an issue.one niggle - noisy but probably because i am not using my anti vibration caddy. not bothered but every now and then the missus has a moan. they all do. especially when that Desperate wags TV show starts playing or something where they want absolute silence apart from their own TV commentary which has to be acknowledged when all you want is some PC fun.great buy so far.no regrets

The whole disk is not recognised by some USB adapters, so when I put all the data I needed on, using a USB adapter for transfer to my media centre, when installed direct to the motherboard, it didn't recognise the format. My mistake though. It isn't as quiet as lead to believe but very close, certainly not as loud as what it replaced. Quick enough, slim drive, good throughput on SATA II board.Unable to comment on reliability but, have had those problems with many other brands I've experienced in my IT career for the last two decades.Would recommend and buy again.

It's okay. It has been installed in a NAS enclosure replacing a failing drive for the past year, but is now exhibiting intermittent failures of its own. Fortunately, being in a redundant system (second drive mirrors this one) and working for most of the time, these problems are relatively benign and crop up as warnings rather than failures, but it's not very encouraging for a supposedly "new" drive to be exhibiting intermittent read or check failures as this one is.

Fast, reliable and quiet HDD.Some advise: For a storage drive (non booting) remember to set your drive to a GPT (GUID) partition as an MBR partition can only recognise / see a maximum of 2.2TB. Also check whether your PC's BIOS is legacy or UEFI. Only UEFI BIOS can boot from a drive set to a GPT partition. My advise would be to stick under 2TB if you want a drive to boot from an MBR partition. Unless you can obtain a relevant device driver.

I bought this drive to replace my broken seagate barracuda which failed after two years normal use {common with seagate and western digital}, this toshiba drive is as quick and efficient as a seagate or western digital drive of similar spec and it is very quiet and doesn`t cost the earth, and hopefully it will last as toshiba drives i have used in the past have out lasted the computers they were installed in.
